...If you swing at the king, you better not miss...
º
Legends told that once upon a time, a dragon made of marble and moonlight came and met a young warrior king, the beast would look at the human and fight him to a stand still. Once both sides were able to acknowledge the power of the other did the beast propose a treaty between them.
He would become subservient to the human king, granting him his powers and protection for as long as the sun would shone down the world, but with one and irremediable condition.
The promise that someday they would give him death.
The king accepted, and so the kingdom grew and flourished under the dragons protection. His power made the land became fertile and rich. Their kingdoms barriers protected by magical, impenetrable mist. Its people lost in the wonders that they lived.
He had played his part, and so...he waited for theirs.
But they betrayed him….
Those bastards, in their human greed in their human arrogance had broken the accord their ancestors had sealed with blood and tears.
A pact between man and dragon was not a waste of ink on paper, it was far more valuable…
And yet that had not saved it from being spit upon...
Why? Why they had done this...? How they had come to this end, ignoring the crucial role that said pact had played in the growth of their kingdom?
He did not know, or perhaps, that was what he had told himself at first for he dared not look at the decrepit and sad appearance they now bared.
But he knew the truth, and he loathed it with all his heart.
They had grown fat and lazy..
Uncaring and weak….
It was hard to look at them, to see them wander around the product of his own power and boast of their self imposed tittles that they had not fight for but inherited from those who did, he could scarcely began to believe that they had any semblance of relation with those that had tried to fight him so long ago.
Those memories rotting away as those worms started to stump down the failed, yet Heroic tales of the one that made the pact.
And so his rage continued to built over time, the flames growing hotter and wilder inside him. Churning his insides until even the likes of his kin could not keep it under grasp any more.
They were unworthy.
And so a test was needed to be carried out, only then, if only one came out to face and fight him to the same point their ancestor had then perhaps he would pardon them.
And so he attacked, with all his might, granting no quarter as he bared within his scaled body the hope to find who would come to save the day.
But the city fell in minutes…
None came to fight him as they all died in a flash under the poisonous touch of the mist.
Silently and without notice as he tore through building after building as he grew more and more annoyed at the lack of response, at the show of weakness..
They had been weak…
Too weak and unworthy to be allowed to live any more under his watch. And so they purge from this world.
And so as the life of the kingdom was drained and left its empty husk behind, he swore to wait under its still warm bones the time another one would came to give him the end he had desired for so long.
It did not matter how long he had to wait, time...was on his side after all.
And so, for centuries he remained hidden away from society as he waited in the now deserted capital for that promised arrival.
Always vigilant….
Always looking around the misty corners of his domain for the one and only...
But each and every time he was met with empty claws, left to wander on this misty forests and empty ruins. Their desolated and hollow halls with no souls left to accompany him.
It was a long and boring wait…, one that he believed would last for eternity.
Until that day came..
It had not been too long since it happened, and yet he remembered as if it was still happening.
He could remember the taste of the air on the wind, the way the leafs moved softly, pushed by invisible threads, how the ground pulsated under the mist. The echoes of life in this distant land of death and stagnation through the passing of time.
He could remember everything with such perfect detail to a point he never thought possible before, and yet it could not compare with the change that took place next.
That blast of energy, that wave of raw, unadulterated power that tore through the heavens and shook the earth like an earthquake.
Or a massive boulder having been drop into a small pond of water.
It was startling to be sure, a novelty in his days of boredom, but he had attributed it to a powerful, perhaps even legendary artefact going out of control.
But then it moved…
…
And moved even faster….
That was even more surprising that the amount of power he felt, making his scales quiver and shake, not out of fear….but excitement at the prospect that they entailed.
Artefacts did not move nor they could continued to carry the same of energy amount of energy they carried within them when they were unleashed for so long, there was always a peak and then a decline.
What he was feeling, what he had sensed through the air.., through every pore of his body was the magic power inside a living, breathing body.
It had been a nonsensical thought, and yet…he could not help but grin madly at it either in madness or glee.
This…
This was what he had been waiting for, this call for battle.
Like the times when dragons populated the world and fought against one another.
It had been too long since he had ever felt something like this, the joy, the curiosity.
And when he felt that very same presence stroll nearby his den, he knew that he would not get this chance ever again if he let it slip away.
He had to see for himself, with his own eyes..
He had to see...
If he was worthy!
And so he sprinted through his domain, the ground shaking and tearing apart where he had been dormant a moment ago, buildings crumbling by the shock-waves as he propelled himself like a silver bullet through the air.
Faster...
His wings flapped violently and with even more power behind each and every of their movements. A loud explosion taking place right behind him as he tore through the barrier of sound, yet his attention was merely focused on the towering column of darkness in the horizon.
His heartbeat started quickening, his jaws opening, bearing out his fangs as he drank into the image before him, but he never slowed down.
He needed to be faster.
The world around him became a blur to his cerulean eyes, the ancient city lost behind, the forest covered with thick mist nothing but an after-image...as his entire attention was wrapped around the lone figure standing beneath the towering cloud of aura around it.
It was so thick that had troubled locating him, but there was no doubt.
It was a warrior, clad in dark metal and even more blacker intent.
He could not contain his joy as he attacked the lone warrior. Channelling all his power and blasting at his position with a beam of light that illuminated the skies as if the sun itself fell down and crashed into the ground.
The entire clearing it had been standing was blown away, the ground burned before it was turned to ashes in seconds while the trees around were tore apart by the whirling winds produced by the explosion. Throwing in all directions sharp splinters of wood like nature made projectiles.
It was a devastating blow...
And yet he knew his target remained in the land of the living, for no longer the dust settle from the attack he could see that indeed, the stranger remained in one piece even though he had been at the centre of it all.
It either spoke of his toughness or quick reflexes to move out of the way before even the attacked reached him.
He hummed with delight.
He started to descend down, his bright silver hue clashing with the dirt and smoke emanating from the smouldering ground.
His cerulean eyes meeting those red, burning coals….
There was anger, rage and annoyance in them.
[Yes, this is what I was waiting for.., to see a warrior with a true heart that would never cow in fear]
He had done right in coming here right away.
Now it was time to make his introduction, he could only wait with glee at his response.
Their battle would be LEGENDARY..!
`To think that you would survive my first and strongest attack without a scratch.., truly interesting´´
He spoke out to the warrior, his voice booming through the air as he met his wrathful glare. Beaming a predatory smile in return.
But the grim looking warrior did not reply, it cocked its head up to meet his glare and he could hear the sharp, cold sound of air been push out through metallic filters, but no words came to answer his.
Merely a scoff...
``Don't you have anything to say to me, warrior? No word or curse? Not even a gasp for breath of my presence..?´´
He taunted, hoping to get an answer from the man below…, but he scoffed once more.
It was only when he thought that his new foe would keep granting him the silent treatment that he saw him hefted his scythe and pointed it at him.
``Bitch, you ain't no legs…´´
``…´´
``….´´
``W-what..!?´´
He exclaimed, blinking repetitively, thinking perhaps he had heard wrong. Of all the things he had expected, that was not one of them.
In fact, he was so surprise he lost the ability of speech for a while.
``What are you suppose to be? A legless reptile with six ugly wings attached to your scaly back..?´´
``R-reptile!?´´
He parroted, half in shock and annoyance to be consider as such. He was a dragon, a destroyer of kingdoms!
Not..whatever a reptile was.
``You...you dare speak to me in that tone?´´
``You dare spit on me with no cause or reason..?´´
[Spit...!?]
What was he talking about? He had done no such thin-was he talking about his attack!? That was no spit…., or did he, or did he consider his attack a mere spit?
Impossible! There could not be such thing in this world or the next to make it so!
It was a lie…, though one so good that he had almost fall for it.
He chuckled darkly, showing his fangs at the man.
``You boast loudly, but can you back your words as much..?´´
``You speak too much, begone..., creature. Now! I wont repeat myself..´´
``I cant do that…, for you see...I have come to full fill the prophecy. ´´
He said slowly, stretching out a scale filled arm at the warrior before pointing at himself with one of his claws..
``For I have been waiting for centuries for the soul strong enough to tear through time and space and fight against me, dragons live for eternity in this world and only strong opponents are able to put them back into slumber of eternity´´
``...´´
``Your arrival was foretold the dust of the stars, and so it was expected that in a world so small as this our paths should cross. There will be no quarter, no mercy for as long as one of us live, the other will not know peace...To fight and die is our Destiny!
After all the time he had been forced to wait, wasn't this his right..?
``So that is why I can not abide your wish for me to leave you alon-..why are you walking away cretin!? I am in the middle of something here you know...!?´´
He exclaimed flustered, his voice breaking down from his haugh and mighty tone as he realized that the one he was exposing his heart to had disappeared from his sights and was walking away from the crater and into the forest.
To make matters worse the skull like faced warrior did not seem ashamed in the slightest, in fact he appeared even more annoyed with him by been caught in the process.
``I got bored…´´
``But you cant leave..!´´
``I am actually doing it´´
``But you cant..´´
``Why not?´´
``…´´
``You are not suppose to..´´
``…´´
``What it the seven hells name is that suppose to mean..?´´
``Enough! I am the destroyer of kingdoms, the maker of kings, the white death! I challenge you to glorious combat so that the world can see once more the test of strength between two distinguished individuals, the legends that will be spoken of this day would be unlimi- ´´
``Not now, I have more important things to do than deal with a talking lizard..´´
[L-Lizard!?]
He thought with outrage. The words hanged over his head loudly, yet they were pushed aside when he snapped into action when the warrior summoned a portal.
NO..!
He could not leave, he cant leave..!
He immediately dashed through the air, firing another shot of burning bright light at the man only to redirected it at the end at the portal. Shattering it into pieces when the magic blast reached it.
He then felt a fist slamming against his skull, reaping apart one of his horns in the process.
Shaking his head he looked at the human, fury and excitement brewing in the depths of his reptile eyes while anger flared behind the man's.
He slowly rose an arm, two clawed fingers slowly grinding at each other. Energy starting to flow at the edge of those talons.
``You don't want this fight…´´
He growled annoyed with no small hint of aggressivity in his tone, cinders and smoke pouring out through his eyes as they stared unblinking at the glowing orbs the dragon had for eyes. A final challenge, a wordless warning before all hell broke loose.
``Oh, but I insist...´´
A moment of silence stretched between the two then, a second...or two as the words hanged above their heads. The air becoming stale and rigid...cold, yet with a faint scent of burnt out powder through rust. Sparks of black flames poking around his fingers while the ground started to creak as massive paws dug deeper, muscles tensing…
He would not back down..
``Your funeral…´´
Then dragon smiled internally, a maniacal glint of happiness behind the depths of his glowing eyes before he pounced on him, massive muscles prompting tons of scale and flesh forward as the creature roared into the air a feral battle-cry. Its maws open wide ready to bite and gobble anything in the spot as magic started to sparkled from every each of those white layers of scales...
It was fast…, much more than a creature its size would imply as both his nature and the power inside pushed him forward, empowered by his new found desire.
No common man could have avoided him in time.
But he should have known that the man he was hunting was anything but common, nor he was fast enough to stop the swift, simple movement of a pair of fingers snapping his fingers once more.
