She knew it had not been the best decision she had taken so far...
That she should have known better than to allow her passions take hold of her if only ever so briefly, especially in-front of Reaper.
To think she would have lost her composure so easily should have been something to be ashamed of. In a way, it was if she stopped to think about it...
And yet when Rose had made that question her thoughts seemed to only lead her back to that moment her breath had hitched and her heart grown so heavy.
When she had first felt it.
The cold...
The piercing, searing ache of a blade made of ice lancing through her and taking her breath away by the sheer suddenness of the blow that had been delivered into her soul. Something that had felt so vividly, so strongly….that she was sure she was not imagining it.
She fought back the desire to bite her lips, yet that did not put at ease her inner turmoil. How could something so brief could outlast an eternity?
It could not have been more than a few seconds, but they seemed to elongate in time to impossible lengths that she could not have believed had she not witnessed them with her own living eyes. The thread, one that was pushed further and further from opposite directions before it threatened to be torn apart.
All while being just the machinations of her mind.
A phantom in the halls..
A bad dream...
A mirage...
And yet she found no comfort and enjoyment in knowing the truth about it. Even less when she came to realize that these feelings coursing through her...were not her own.
But his...
This time she could not help but bit her lips. Not enough for her fangs to pierce through the tender, soft flesh, but enough to make her feel the pressure building up. Her eyes closing to a half lid, hardening.
It was too soon to say that she liked Rose…, she had barely known her for more than a day and half. It was just too soon to get a good grasp of who Rose Orianna was, not like the blond human girl was trying to hide it.
It just wasn't logical to down right believe in her without testing her. Testing her herself...even if that was a selfish desire given the kindness Reaper had shown so far to her fellow companion.
That did not mean she did not care for her.
She sighed. She was just a child who had been given a bad hand in life which would have led her down a terrible and rather short path.
Kidnapped by bandits, abandoned and wounded, possibly left to die had they not found her
Just like her….
She closed her eyes for a brief moment.
She respected Rose.., she truly did, as much as one could do after meeting someone for such brief spam of time and having such different backgrounds. But to cause such a reaction from her master…, even if he was magnanimous enough to not point it out to the offending girl and even pardon her on the spot...
She was not as kind as he was.
She opened her eyes, her features softening even though nothing of the sort was happening inside her.
That was why she just could not let it stand. No matter how childish it may seem now….she did not regret it, not even as his fiery eyes stared down at her the same way a father would try to admonish their troublemaker child.
Peering into her soul as if daring for her to try hide the truth from him. He shouldn't have to, she would have told him anyway….
``I did it for you...´´
Reaper observed her for a little longer than a beat. A few seconds later mist started to pour out through the spots on the archaic mask.
Had those words been uttered before when the mood was soothing and calm as they stared at the starry night sky they could have been considered rather daring, if not romantic.
Now they were her shield as the pressure built around her, the air growing colder and still. A single droplet of sweat trailing down her head down into her neck.
``Do you really think so little of me of than to compare me to a flower about to wilt away by a few pitiful words..?´´
She shook her head. placing a hand over her chest as she slowly bowed her head.
``No, I am not so arrogant to believe so..nor I would ever imply that´´
That was the truth, nothing would change that.
She rose her head, ocean blue meeting steaming crimson red...
``I just wanted to do what I thought was right..´´
To help those who were in need.
Just like he had done for her…, though given her lack of power perhaps just one step at a time.
There was still time to do so...
The heaviness in the air died out then. Lifting away from her shoulders as if they had never been there to begin with.
The air still felt electrifying though...
``You are set on your views….I should have see that coming´´
``What do you mean?´´
She asked, a question that she should have known better yet to ask out loud yet her curiosity won her over before she realized the deed was done. He merely shook his head..
``It doesn't matter, nothing ever does…
Her heart beat skipped a beat as she heard those words and saw the way his eyes glimmered with secrets that were always threatening to burst out.
To make themselves heard.
``M-..´´
``Now, I believe I said it before that you should think and worry for yourself first and only...´´
He took a step away, the wind picking its pace around them, making the blackness of his cape to hover to his sides with a life of its own.
``Your words and wishes on me are wasted. I hope I don't have to remind you again of the importance of that lesson..´´
``You are too hard on yourself, my master..´´
The flames grew dimmer for a moment, almost like small pin sized spots of red inside the skull sockets. She could sense the melancholy exuding from him.
``So she said...´´
She bit her lip, this time feeling the sting of her fang actually clawing into the flesh, the taste of iron slowly picked up by her taste-buds inside her mouth as the red ichor started to flow out.
But it was something that mattered little as frustration built inside her as she saw and felt her failure grow further.
How could she not have notice this? How could she have make such blunder after having berated Rose for doing the same? Unforgivable!
``Reaper..., I-´´
Her words died out in her throat as if they had become made out of stone, clogging her throat with a heaviness unparalleled. Her attention drawn away from the matter her heart was beating for towards somewhere she could not easily recall or deduce...
A shift in the air.., a ripple in a pond. Fickle, almost ethereal in nature, but it was there for her to sense it.
And there was only one word to describe it.
Pain..
Dull, mitigated, almost as if she was imagining it rather than feeling it on her own flesh. Like hearing through a long, rusty tube an orchestra from the outside of the building the event was taking place.
So why were her eyes becoming unfocused, glassy even as they started to widen in surprise as she took in this strange wave she knew this time it dint belong to neither her or her master.
So why? Where was this coming from? Why was she feeling this?
It didn't make sense..since it wasn't coming from her master and there wasn't anyone else here. So who could it b-..
No..
She was wrong.
There was only one person she knew of that could be behind this wavelength of emotions. Someone else she had not accounted for.
A realization that dawned on her like a hammer as the words of that persons name came into view through her own lips in nothing but a ghastly whisper as the memory of the blond human girl came into view inside her mind.
``Rose…´´
A sentiment that her master shared with her as his glared hardened, darkness oozing from him like miasma given life. A scythe popping out into existence through a tear in reality itself. Its length glowing darkly even as the moonlight shone down over it.
Without a word the two dashed towards the village they had left unattended for way too long.

I am still a bit tired from that ordeal so don't expect fast updates…, but I am back once again.

It seems that Alpha is starting to develop empath abilities...I wonder where that will lead her.
