I don't own Transformers or the Riordanverse. They belong to their respective owners.
Chapter 2: My Dad Ditches Me for the Iron Giant.
I sat there at my desk at school during the final period. I was listening to the teacher, Mrs. Bishop drone on and on about something related to Algebra. As usual, during this time, my ADHD decided to torture me, so I couldn't pay attention at all.
I was also having a bad day in general. Mean girls mocking me for whatever stupid reason they picked, the previously mentioned ADHD and dyslexia, and just random boredom in general.
But despite that, I was feeling pretty happy actually, and that was for one big reason.
My dad promised he was going to pick me up from school today.
That may not sound like a big deal, but when you have the life I have it is.
See, I'm Piper McLean. The daughter of the actor Tristan McLean. You may have heard of him; he's a pretty big deal.
As you can imagine, having a famous actor for a dad meant he was busy most of the time. Whether it was something like shooting a movie, going on a press tour to promote said movie, going to fancy parties, dealing with crazed fans, or some combination of the above.
We didn't get a lot of chances to spend time together. Not like a father and daughter would. We used to. But that was before he got super popular after finishing that doctor show he was a part of. But now, for the past couple of years, it was like he barely had time for me, and when he did it wasn't long or his celebrity life somehow managed to get in the way.
Today was going to be different though. He'd just wrapped up most of his part of the work on some dumb heist movie, so he finally had a free day. He promised me that he'd pick me up from school. Just like I was a normal kid and then we'd spend the whole day together, just me and him. I wouldn't have to worry about his evil assistant, Jane.
That might sound harsh calling someone evil but trust me, she's evil.
Also before you ask where my mom is in all this...
I wish I knew.
When 3:00 finally came around, I went to the front of the school and started waiting at the pickup line with all the other kids. Everyone was giving me odd looks, but for once, I didn't mind it. I must have looked pretty weird, hardly able to contain my excitement, bouncing around a bit and smiling.
Because right now, none of that mattered. What mattered was that soon, my dad was gonna pick me up from school.
The minutes started going by. They ticked by one by one.
When ten minutes passed with no sign of my dad, I figured he must just be running late. Fans must have mobbed him or something. It's happened before.
Don't laugh. You haven't seen it in action. Trust me, it's not as funny as it sounds.
When twenty minutes passed, I started getting nervous. Where was he?
When it was finally thirty minutes past three, I couldn't take it anymore.
Tears started silently pouring down my face.
He promised.
And now all the kids that were still there were looking at me again. They must have thought I was a crazy freak because that's what I was! The freak who thought for once she could have faith in her dad!
I took the next bus home after that. Not even caring everyone saw me cry.
The bus finally arrived at my dad's mansion. It's pretty expansive. It has three stories, more rooms than I could count, a home theater, and a backyard the size of a small park. A mansion that was every kid's dream to live in.
I hated it so much.
It was just another reminder I wasn't normal. That I'd never be anything other than "Tristan Mclean's daughter". I'd just be a stupid rich kid all my life.
I walked up to the front door and barged through it so fast I swore I almost took it off its hinges. When I got inside, I looked around for my dad. This stupid mansion had so many rooms it could be a pain in the butt to find someone when you needed to.
It was just another reason for me to despise it.
My stupid luck proved it was still as bad as ever because I found my dad's personal assistant Jane, instead of him. She was sitting on one of our luxurious imported couches doing her work on a laptop.
"Jane," I said with my teeth grinding against each other,
She didn't even look up or acknowledge me. She stayed silent at first.
"Where is he?!" I demanded to know. I didn't wanna put up with her bullcrap today.
"In the backyard." Jane explained, still not looking up, "With his new friend."
New friend. Of course.
He met someone else and forgot all about me. How typical by this point.
I threw my backpack on a nearby chair and barged outside. I saw him sitting on a lawn chair. He was smiling and having a drink. He didn't seem to have a care in the world. I was so laser-focused on him that I didn't see his new friend at first.
"DAD!" I shouted with tears in my eyes.
My dad swerved around and looked at me. He gave me that look. The one his face made whenever he knew he screwed up.
"Piper, I- Oh my gosh, I totally-"
"You promised!" I cried, "You promised you'd pick me up from school today! I had to ride home on the bus again!"
"I know, Piper, I'm sorry." my dad apologized as if a simple "I'm sorry" could make it better, "I just got an unexpected visitor.".
"Who!?" I asked.
"Me..." said a guilty voice.
I looked up. I probably would have staggered back at the surprising sight if it hadn't been so angry. There, sitting nearby, was a "Transformer"; One of those alien robots that started coming to Earth a few years ago to continue their war to save their planet or whatever. He looked down at me with some sad robotic eyes.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know that-"
Ignoring him, I turned back to my dad. "You ditched me for the Iron Giant?!" I screamed with hurt and pain.
"...Is that supposed to be an insult?" the "Iron Giant" asked, "Because that was a pretty good-"
"GAH!" I snorted. I couldn't believe this. I turned the other way and started going back inside. Tears still running down my face.
"Piper, stop!" my dad pleaded, "Please! I'm sorry!"
He might have meant it. He probably really had just forgotten and lost track of time due to a surprise visit.
But at that moment, I didn't care. I was just hurt and angry.
I went into the house and slammed the door.
Then I walked up the stairs to my room and fell on my bed. I hugged my teddy bear and continued sobbing.
