Episode 1: Not So Happy Campers - Part 1

The scene faded into a wooden dock before a man popped onto camera from below. He was in his late twenties with well-styled hair and a stubble.

"Yo!" the man greeted. "We're comin' at you live from Camp Wawanakwa, somewhere in Muskoka, Ontario! I'm your host, Chris McLean, dropping season one of the hottest new reality show on television, right now!"

The camera switched to a shot of Chris McLean walking down the dock, continuing his explanation of the show. "Here's the deal: twenty-two campers have signed up to spend eight weeks right here at this crummy old summer camp." He reached the end of the dock, stopping next to a sign with the camp's name on it, and appeared to be quite happy with the apparently low quality of Camp Wawanakwa. "They'll compete in challenges against each other, then have to face the judgment of their fellow campers."

"Every three days, one team will either win a reward, or watch one of their team members walk down the 'Dock of Shame', take a ride on the 'Loser Boat'," Chris chuckled for a second as a signboard showing a picture of the boat dropped down on ropes, "and leave 'Total Drama Island' for good." The signboard was quickly raised as the camera switched to a different part of the camp.

The new scene was of a clearing surrounded by large rocks. In the center was a fire pit, with a group of eleven stumps to serve as seating located towards the rocks. To the right was the entrance to the clearing, with a tall wooden entrance and an upright metal oil drum. There appeared to be a second entrance, a staircase carved into the stone in the foreground. "Their fate will be decided here," Chris popped back into view, "at the dramatic Campfire Ceremonies," the camera zoomed in on the campfire, and zoomed out to show Chris approaching from the right, "where each week, all but one camper will receive...a marshmallow." The shot changed to a close-up of untoasted marshmallows on sticks, lying on top of the metal drum-turned-podium. Chris picked one up and ate it. "In the end, only one will be left standing, and will be rewarded," he produced a number of magazines that all had the same issue with his own face on the cover, "with cheesy tabloid fame. And!" Chris dropped the magazines off-camera, and held up a prop treasure chest filled with gold coins and other miscellaneous valuables. "A small fortune which, let's face it, they'll probably blow in a week!"

"To survive, they'll have to battle black flies," the shot switched to a swarm of insects being swiped at by a bear, "grizzly bears," the same bear, now roaring menacingly at the camera, "disgusting camp food," a bowl of what appeared to be some sort of insect larvae suddenly said "Hey now!", "and, each other." A close-up of Chris McLean, the smiling host once again at the edge of the dock.

The camera faded to more shots of camp, beginning with a picture of a bird feeding its hatchlings; in the nest was an obvious camera, pointed at the parent bird. "Every moment will be caught on one of the hundreds of cameras," an out-of-place totem pole with another camera duct-taped haphazardly to the top, "situated all over the camp." The scene changed back to Chris at the dock. "Who will crumble under the pressure? Find out here, right now, on," the point-of-view changed to a spot further back, and did so again to punctuate each of the host's last three words. "Total! Drama! Island!"

(Theme Song)

"Welcome back to Total Drama Island!" Chris said. "Alright! It's time to meet our first eleven campers. We told them they'd all be staying at this five-star resort, so if they seem a little TO'd, that's probably why."

A boat pulled up and released the first contestant, who eagerly ran up to Chris. "Priya! What's up?" Chris greeted her.

"Oh wow! I can't believe I'm actually seeing Chris McLean in real life!" Priya squealed. "I must be dreaming." She pinched herself to check. "Nope. This is reality!"

"Yeah, thanks," Chris said. The next person to arrive was Rodney. "Rodney! What is up?!" he greeted.

"Nothing much. Hey, are you sure this is the right place?" Rodney wondered.

"This is it. Camp Wawanakwa!" Chris emphasized.

"I know I saw a hot tub somewhere on the application form," Rodney muttered to himself and stood next to Priya.

"Hey, Gwen!" Chris called to the next contestant.

"You mean we're staying here?" Gwen asked in disappointment.

"No, you're staying here," Chris replied. "My crib is an Airstream with A/C thataway."

Gwen got up in Chris's face. "I did not sign up for this," she said.

"Actually," Chris held a stack of papers, "you did." Gwen took the stack, ripped it in half, and dropped it. "The great thing about lawyers is," he pulled out an extra stack, "they make lots of copies."

"I am not staying here," Gwen grabbed her bags.

"Cool," Chris coolly said. "I hope you can swim though, because your ride just left."

Gwen saw the boat that brought her onto the island departing. "Jerk!" she grumbled.

The next boat showed Geoff dancing to music. When the boat stopped, he jumped off with his suitcase and focused on Chris. "Chris McLean! Sup, man! It's an honor to meet you, man!" he fist-bumped the host.

"The Geoff-ster!" Chris greeted back. "Welcome to the island, man!"

"Thanks, man!" Geoff replied and went to join the others.

"Is this the urban way of talking or what?" Rodney felt confused after watching Chris and Geoff's conversation.

"Hey everyone!" Chris called. "It's Jasmine!"

The tall, Australian girl stepped off the boat and got on the dock. "G'day, Chris," Jasmine greeted the host. "It's nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too," Chris shook hands with her. "What's it like living in Thunder from Down Under?"

"Australia's pretty cool, and exciting," Jasmine said before making her way over to the campers.

The sixth camper, MK, arrived with a smirk on her face. "MK!" Chris greeted as the contestant approached.

"It's not a resort, but as long as I get the money, I can deal," MK talked to the host.

She grabbed her cargo bag and stood next to Jasmine. "Wow! How tall are you?" MK asked in astonishment. "I've seen weightlifters that can't reach up to your height."

"Is that a compliment or an insult?" Jasmine raised an eyebrow at her. "If it's the latter, we're going to have a problem."

"Forget I said anything," MK smiled nervously.

The next boat dropped off Damien, who was in the middle of zipping his backpack.

"Damien! Nice of you to make it," Chris smiled at the boy.

"Are you sure this island isn't anywhere dangerous?" Damien asked.

"I'm not making any promises about that," Chris said.

"That doesn't exactly give me hope, but okay," Damien said and went over to the campers. He took out hand sanitizer, squirted it on his hands, and rubbed them together.

"Uh, what's with the hand sanitizer?" Priya asked him. "Did you touch something nasty on your way here?"

"No, but I'm gonna make sure I don't while I'm on the island," Damien replied with a smile. "I'm Damien."

"Priya," Priya introduced herself. "It's nice to meet you."

The next camper to arrive was an army man. "Ladies and gentlemen, Brick!" Chris announced as the boy saluted to the camera.

"Brick MacArthur, reporting for duty!" Brick said assertively to the host.

"As you were!" Chris saluted to the cadet as he passed by.

"Cool dog tags you got on you," MK eyed Brick's own possession.

"They belonged to my father, but now they're in my possession," Brick said.

Sam was the next contestant to approach the dock. He was paying attention to a portable console in his hands. "Oh yeah!" he said. "Grenade launcher upgrade! Now we're cooking!" He was stopped thanks to Chris taking his console away from him. "Hey, what gives?"

"Good to see you, Sam," Chris said, "and I'm letting you know that you're on a TV show."

"Sorry, but why did you take my GameGuy?" Sam moaned.

"The rules state that no electronic devices are allowed on the island," Chris defined happily.

"And I was just about to reach the high score," Sam groaned and joined the cast.

"Contestant number ten is Trent." Chris introduced the next contestant, who was carrying a guitar case with him.

"Hey, good to meet you, man. Saw you on that figure skating show. Nice work!" Trent greeted the host and fist bumped him.

"Hey, thanks man. I knew I rocked that show," Chris bragged.

"I watched it with my family," Priya said. "One of the guys dropped his partner on her head! They did get immunity that week."

"I give my condolences to those two," Brick said with respect.

"So this is it?" Trent asked after seeing the others. "Alrighty then," he commented and went up to join them.

The next camper to arrive was Anne Maria. "Hey! How's it going?" she approached the host.

"Alright!" Chris began. "Our Jersey chick, Anne Maria, is here!"

"I'm here, and I'm ready to win this thing!" Anne Maria told the host. "Are you sure this is the right place?" she asked, looking around the camp. "You said we'd be in a resort."

"This is it, Camp Wawanakwa!" Chris emphasized.

"What a ripoff artist," Anne Maria mumbled as she took out a spray can, sprayed it on her hair, and walked to where the other campers were already standing, oblivious to them coughing from the spray.

"I like your hairspray," Geoff said while coughing, "but you're suffocating us with it."

"Alright! That makes the first half of the cast," Chris said. "Now we get to the last 11 players."

Scott was dropped off next. "Our next camper is Scott!" Chris announced

"This almost feels like home," Scott said and started looking around the camp, "but with more water and less rats."

"Whatever floats your boat," Chris told him with a smirk.

"So this is my competition," Scott snidely grinned at the eleven. "Eleven wimps I can easily take down."

The contestants shot annoyed expressions at him, and Anne Maria marched over to him. "What did you just call me?" she shot a menacing look at the boy.

"I said what I said," Scott scoffed. "You guys are all chumps, and I'm just meeting you for the first time."

His response earned him having his collar tugged on by Anne Maria and she dragged him closer to her face. "You better watch your mouth, or you'll live the rest of your life without one!" she threatened, making Scott immediately gape at her.

"I'd love to see that happen," MK chuckled to herself while Anne Maria and Scott regrouped with everyone.

The next camper was on the boat writing in her book. "Getting off in 3…2…1!" She got on the dock. "Hi everyone. My name is Millie."

"Millie, nice of you to join us," Chris smiled. "Quick question: is that book of yours waterproof?"

Millie was surprised to hear that. "Don't know why you're asking that, but I'm going to protect it at all times."

Chris saw Millie walk past him. "Good instincts," Chris nodded.

The next boat came and dropped off Katie and Sadie, the former being tanned and skinny and the latter being white and chubby.

"Ladies!" Chris greeted as he approached the pair. "Sadie, Katie! Welcome to your new home for eight weeks!"

"Oh my gosh. Sadie look, it's a summer camp," Katie pointed to the campgrounds, oblivious to how nasty they looked.

"Okay, I've always wanted to go to summer camp!" Sadie perkily exclaimed before they grabbed their luggage and ran to the cast.

The next camper to be dropped off was Chase. "Chase!" Chris said. "What's up, man?"

"Chris McLean!!" Chase eagerly greeted the host. "Let's do this!"

"You seem extremely excited to be here," Chris noticed.

"Of course I am," Chase responded. "We're gonna be at a resort with air conditioning, and I can do a lot of crazy stunts there."

"He didn't read his contract carefully at all," Millie whispered to Gwen, who nodded in agreement.

Chris put a hand on Chase's shoulder. "Hate to burst your bubble, but none of you are going to be at a resort," he explained. "You're gonna be at this camp without any of the benefits a resort would have."

Chase's expression fell flat. "So you tricked me just so I could feel like a moron when I came here?"

"Sure did," Chris grinned. "It was all just a joke."

Chase quickly regained his chipper mood. "You really got me good. Nice one," he laughed a bit and went to join his fellow campers.

Topher had arrived next. "Topher!" Chris greeted the contestant with a high-five. "We're happy to have you here!"

"Hey, good to meet you. I've watched all of your TV shows, and your performance in them was top-notch," Topher complimented Chris.

"You're starting to be my favorite contestant, and we don't even have everybody here yet," Chris said.

"I'm flattered, but I don't want to take up too much of the spotlight," Topher said and made his way to the others.

The next camper to get off the boat was Eva. "Eva. Nice. Glad you could make it," Chris said.

Eva walked up to the cast and dropped her bag onto Topher's foot, who winced and grabbed his foot out. "What's in there? Dumbbells?"

"Yes," Eva monotonously answered.

"She's kinda scary to me," Chase said to Rodney.

Chris looked at the next contestant. "Hey there, Ripper. Welcome to the camp," he said.

"You know what time it is?" Ripper grunted.

"Not entirely, dude," Chris answered.

"Time for beast mode!!!" Ripper yelled before ripping off his shirt with a howl. Now bare chested, he flexed his muscles with a cocky look splattered over his face.

"Oh my!" Priya witnessed his demonstration with stunned surprise.

"That's a little too much!" Damien said.

Ripper made his way to the disgusted contestants. "Take a long dreamy gander, losers, cause once I win the million bucks, I'll be out of your league."

"I don't see a suitcase," Chris took notice. "Is that your only shirt?"

"I stuffed an extra one into my pocket," Ripper explained as he took out a blue shirt and put it on. "The green one was just for my demonstration."

"Cool," Chris said. "And here comes Sky!" The girl jumped off the boat by front flipping and landing on the dock.

"I can see that you lied to me by having me stay here instead of someplace else," Sky told Chris and took a look at the other contestants. "You guys are likely the people I'll be competing against. The name's Sky."

"It's a shame you missed 'The Ripper Show'," Ripper said. "It was super impressive!"

"What does he mean by that?" Sky turned to the others.

"All he did was rip off his shirt and show us how cool his muscles are," Sam replied.

"How origin-" Sky snarked before getting distracted by the next arrival.

Justin was on the upcoming boat. He smiled at the camera, and everyone gazed dreamily at him because of how attractive he is.

"This is Justin," Chris told the contestants. "Welcome to Total Drama Island."

"Thanks, Chris," Justin fist bumped him. "This is great."

"Just so you know, we picked you based entirely on your looks," Chris informed him.

"I can deal with that," Justin said and started walking down the dock.

"I have never seen anyone as hot as that guy," Rodney whispered to Anne Maria.

"Tell me about it," Anne Maria said.

"Hey everyone. Izzy!" Chris announced the final camper.

"Hi Chris! Hi! Hi!" Izzy gleefully greeted him. She ran off the boat, but tripped and hit her chin on the dock, knocking her unconscious and sending her into the water.

"Ooh! That's not good!" Sky reacted to the event with concern.

"We should not just leave her in peril," Jasmine ran over and helped Izzy up on the dock, who regained consciousness.

"That felt so... good!" Izzy said enthusiastically. "Except hitting my chin. This is summer camp? That is so cool. Do you have paper maché here? Are we having lunch soon?"

"She's so freaky," Ripper smirked at the girl before turning scared. "Don't tell her I said that."

"First thing's first!" Chris explained. "We need a group photo for the promos. Everyone on the end of the dock!" The campers did as instructed. He took out a camera and jumped up to a ship.

The teens arranged themselves into three loose rows facing the camera. At the very center of the group was Rodney. To Rodney's right, Justin smiled at the camera, Eva was crossing her arms and frowning, Chase had his hands on his hips and smiled, and Jasmine was waving for the camera. To Rodney's left, Scott was leaning his shoulder on Rodney's arm confidently, Trent leaned on Scott's shoulder, Gwen had her elbow leaning on Trent's arm, and Topher was shooting the camera a smile.

The front row had Katie and Sadie leaning against each other in the middle. To Katie's right, Izzy, Priya, and Sky were all lounging and looking at the camera happily. To Sadie's left, Sam and Millie were sitting side by side.

The last six campers stood in the back row. Ripper had his arms crossed and was feeling confident. MK and Damien were standing on Rodney's back. Brick was in the middle of saluting the camera. Geoff simply stood still and smiled. And finally, Anne Maria was posing for the camera.

"Okay!" Chris called out. "One! Two! Thre- oops! Okay, forgot the lens cap! Okay, hold that pose! One, tw- Oh! No wait! Card's full! Hang on..."

"Hurry up!" Anne Maria shouted. "My face is startin' to freeze."

"Got it!" Chris announced. "Okay! Everyone say, Wawanakwa!"

"Wawanakwa!" they cried out before the dock cracked and they all fell into the lake. Humorously, Chris had managed to take pictures of them struggling.

"Okay guys, dry off and meet at the campfire pit in ten!" Chris said.

(Commercial Break)

Chris was standing at the campfire pit and looking at the twenty-two campers. Katie, Sadie, Chase, Damien, and MK sat on the front row of stumps with Izzy, Rodney, and Priya standing amongst them. The back row of seats were taken by Sky, Millie, Trent, Anne Maria, Topher, and Gwen. The rest of the campers – Geoff, Sam, Scott, Eva, Ripper, Justin, Brick, and Jasmine – stood behind the stumps.

"This is Camp Wawanakwa, your home for the next eight weeks!" Chris began. "The campers sitting around you will be your cabin mates, your competition, and maybe even your friends. You dig? The camper who manages to stay on Total Drama Island the longest without getting voted off will win one-hundred-thousand dollars!"

"Hey Chris!" Ripper started to talk. "What are our sleeping arrangements? I hope the bedrooms aren't co-ed."

"I have to agree with him!" Priya said.

"They're not!" Chris answered. "Girls get one side of each cabin, and dudes get the other."

"I have to share a room with other people?" Chase interrupted. "I've never done that before."

"Sorry," Chris said, "but that's how it works here."

"I have to live with Sadie or I'll die," Katie said as she held her BFF's hand.

"And I'll break out in hives. It's true," Sadie confirmed as well.

MK slumped to her knees. "And the award for most annoying girls goes to those two twins," she grumbled.

"Don't worry about the sleeping arrangements!" Brick told MK and Damien. "We're lucky enough to not sleep on the floor."

"You won't have to sleep next to him," Damien told MK and they looked at Ripper flexing his muscles while having his foot on top of a sleeping deer. This caused the two to be disturbed.

"Here's the deal!" Chris said. "We're gonna split you into two teams. If I call your name out, go stand over there."

"Gwen, Trent, Anne Maria, Chase, Millie, Sky, Katie, Ripper, MK, Justin, and Brick!" Chris tossed a banner at Millie. "From this moment on, you are officially known as the Screaming Gophers!"

Millie looked down at the banner and smiled. "I'm a gopher? Okay. They are some essential animals."

"Wait. What about Sadie?" Katie said as she realized that Sadie wasn't on her team.

"The rest of you, over here!" Chris told the remaining campers. "Geoff, Jasmine, Rodney, Sam, Sadie, Izzy, Priya, Topher, Scott, Eva, and Damien!" he listed. "Move! Move move move!"

"But Katie's a Gopher! I have to be a Gopher!" Sadie begged loudly.

Jasmine grabbed her arm and dragged her to the team. "Sadie, you'll have more time to interact with your friend later."

Sadie was still crying to her friend. "This is so unfair! I miss you, Katie!"

Katie wept out a few tears before yelling back "I miss you too!"

Chris threw a banner at Sam. "You guys will officially be known as the Killer Bass!"

"Being named after Bass isn't so bad," Sam said.

"Alright, campers!" Chris said. "You and your team will be on camera in all public areas during this competition."

Confessional: Chris

"You will also be able to share your innermost thoughts on tape with video diaries anytime you want. Let the audience know what you're really thinking," Chris said. "Or, just get something off your chest!"

Confessional: MK

MK looked around the small room. "This confession stinks, but it is useful for my plans," she smirked.

Confessional: Chase

Chase was frowning at all the flies roaming around. "Couldn't this show have gotten a porta potty instead of this?" In response, a fly flew into his nose, causing him to cough.

Confessional: Loon

Strangely, a loon was simply applying pink lipstick to the end of its bill.

Confessional: Topher

"This is the confession booth?" Topher started his first confessional. "It looks pretty disgusting, but as long as I have some privacy here, I'll have no problem visiting this booth if I need someone to talk to."

Confessionals End

After the confessionals were done, the camera was now back on Chris. "Alright! Any questions? Cool! Let's find your cabins!"

The scene changed to a shot of two cabins. "Gophers, you're in the east cabin, and Bass, you're in the west," Chris informed them.

Anne Maria was the first to enter her cabin. "Bunk beds? I've never slept in those before."

"This is a summer camp. Of course we'll be sleeping in them," Gwen said as she walked past Anne Maria.

"Fine, but I'm getting the top bunk," Anne Maria declared as Sky entered. "I need to protect my pouf."

"Hello, ladies!" Brick greeted and entered the cabin. "I know this cabin is for girls only, but I'd like to offer my assistance in case you need help unpacking."

"Thanks, but we'll be fine," Sky shooed him off.

"I'll leave you girls to it then," Brick said and left the cabin, passing by Chris along the way.

"Hey, Chris, where are the electrical outlets?" Anne Maria asked. "I want to plug in my hair blowers."

"There are some in the communal bathrooms, just across the way," Chris referenced to a bathroom building.

"Communal?" Anne Maria's eyes grew wide.

"It means we shower together," Izzy came over to let her know.

"What she said!" Chris chuckled. "The only private bathroom is for me."

"Like I care about that," Scott sniffed as he, Rodney, and Topher walked out to the porch. "Me and my brothers share a barrel, and it breaks about once a week."

"You bathe in a barrel?" Topher got confused while watching Scott re enter their cabin. "How is that comfortable?"

"Me and him are farm boys," Rodney said. "We have different customs when compared to you guys."

"I live in a middle-class home, and I'm glad to have hot showers and soap that washes my hair well," Topher said before they went back.

"Excuse me, Chris?" Geoff asked as Priya was entering the girls' side of the Bass cabin. "Is there a chaperone of any kind in this facility?"

"You're all sixteen years old," Chris said. "As old as a counselor-in-training at a regular summer camp!" He shrugged. "So, other than myself, you'll be unsupervised. You've got a half-an-hour to unpack and meet me at the Main Lodge! Starting..." he looked at his watch, "Now!"

"Nice!" Geoff exclaimed.

A shriek was heard, and Sam, Gwen, Rodney, Chase, Jasmine, Ripper, and Millie peered inside the girls' side of the Bass cabin.

"Wow, can that sheila scream," Jasmine said as the camera switched to show Anne Maria standing on a stool away from a cockroach.

"I won't put my foot there! Kill it! Kill it!" Anne Maria shouted.

The cockroach scurried around the room, and the campers were screaming and trying to dodge the small creature.

The only one that was not scared was Scott, who lifted his foot and brought it down.

"Help me!" the cockroach somehow yelped before getting killed.

"That was a bit rough," Trent said before smiling, "but nice move!"

"I would've used an ax on that thing," Izzy pointed out.

"It's just a cockroach," Scott sniffed. "Anyone of you could've killed the bug, but you chose to avoid it."

"We were scared, but you made a good point," Rodney agreed.

The scene cut to the campers in the Mess Hall listening to Chef. "Listen up! I serve it three times a day, and you will eat it three times a day! Grab your tray, get your food, and sit your butts down NOW!".

"Sorry," Topher said from the front of the line, "but is this meal even well-cooked?"

Chef put a scoop of meat-like substance onto a bun on Topher's tray, and Topher and Millie took their trays.

"We do need to keep our bodies fit and proper," Millie added, causing Chef's eye to twitch. "We are still teenagers."

"You want proper? You'll get a whole lot of SHUT THE HECK UP!" Chef yelled, and the two at the front backed away.

"He needs to take a chill pill," Sam smiled at Damien.

"What was that? Come closer, Curly!" Chef called out. "I didn't hear you."

"It was nothing! I promise!" Sam panicked, taking his food and leaving.

"I'm sure it was not," Chef glared as Damien stepped forward and grabbed a tray of food. "You! Nervous kid! Gimme your plate!" Damien allowed the cook to slap another scoop of the meat onto his plate. It somehow clung back to the scoop, and Chef had to throw it down again.

"Hey, Eva is it?" Jasmine talked to Eva as they were the next two in line. "How are you feeling today?"

Eva didn't respond as she took her tray and left Jasmine alone.

"Okay then," Jasmine frowned.

"NEXT!" Chef yelled.

Gwen and Ripper were next in line. "I don't know what this slop is, but I'm starving, so I'll take it," Ripper said.

"It's not like I have a choice," Gwen told herself as Chef caught and killed a fly with one hand.

After Ripper left, Gwen turned to Chef. "Okay, I hate to be predictable and complain on the first day, but I think mine just moved." Chef smashed the food with a hammer, splattering both of them. "Right. Okay then," Gwen took her tray and left.

The campers were now eating, though one of the meat-like-substances crawled on the floor.

Chris entered the room. "Welcome to the Main Lodge!" he announced.

"Yo, my man! Can we order a pizza?" Geoff asked. A cleaver flew through the air and hit the wall.

"Whoa! It's cool, G! Brown slop is cool," Geoff quickly told Chef. "Right, guys?"

The other campers nodded nervously.

"Your first challenge begins in one hour!" Chris announced and exited.

"What do you think they'll make us do?" Sadie asked.

"This is our first challenge," Rodney answered next to her. "How hard can it be?"

The scene cut to the top of a cliff. The campers were standing in their swimsuits and looking over the edge.

"Oh, (BLEEP)!" Rodney said.

Author's Note: The Switched series is put on hiatus for right now so I might as well try another shuffled series with the reboot cast. Just so we're clear, this is not so we can pair the reboot cast with the Gen 1-3 cast. We're against that type of crap here.
