It took a few hours, but Klaus and Kol behaved themselves. Klaus was able to explain Mikael and Esther to Liz and talk about what he knew of his biological father, which was not much. But he did his best.
He looked genuinely scared when he discovered that Caroline was my granddaughter and looked over at me like I was going to stop him from finding love, which I would not.
I could feel Kol, who kept looking at me strangely. I was sure that he knew I was keeping something from him, and it was killing him not to know what it was. But I felt that I needed to work through it myself—until Liz asked the question that I wished she hadn't.
"Where was your home when you all lived here as humans?" Liz asked us all. It was then that Kol spun around to face me, and I knew that he had put it all together. He knew.
"That's why you have been so strange lately, isn't it, Isa?" Kol asked me. I couldn't answer him. Excusing myself, I got up and walked away.
KLPOV
"What did I say wrong?" Sheriff Forbes asked Kol and I.
"Nothing, Sheriff, if you will please excuse me, I need to go to Isa," Kol said to us both, going after her.
"I don't know how much Isa told you about her history, but it is not very pleasant," I told the Sheriff.
"She told me that she was married to Elijah and that he was abusive, as well as the fact that she had not long divorced him." Sheriff Forbes told me.
"Well, that much is correct. Elijah and Isa lived in a house that once stood where your home is currently located. She has endured 1000 years of abuse at the hands of my brother, none of which we were privy to until not long before his death; as you know, we originals cannot be killed, but Elijah killed his wife regularly when she displeased him, he forbid her from being a part of our family, telling us for centuries that it was she that requested that she not be a part of our family. We discovered what was happening to her when our father returned to our lives and told us he had witnessed the abuse firsthand. I fear that seeing your home when we arrived in town triggered some rather unfound memories for her." I told Liz.
"…" Liz was speechless. Her phone rang, pulling her out of the daze she seemed to be in. "Caroline, honey, where are you?" Liz asked her daughter, looking over at me and seeming to make some judgment call. "Stay there; I'm coming to get you. Some people came into town, and I found out that they are family," she told her daughter. I felt dread settle in my heart; I didn't think I would ever get to have love after all.
Not long after Liz ended the call, Liz asked if bringing Caroline here to meet Isa was all right. I told her it should be fine and that I would run it past them while she collected her daughter. When she left, I felt myself give up; I doubted that Isa would allow me to date her granddaughter. Making my way up to where I knew Kol and Isa to be, I knocked on the door, waiting for them.
Isa came to the door; I could see Kol sitting on the bed.
"The Sheriff has gone to retrieve her daughter to meet you. If you no longer need me, I will go out for a while." I told them both.
"I know what you must think, Klaus, but you are wrong. I would not stop you from finding love. If you want to see Caroline, then do so. Who am I to say no? When I fell in love with my brother-in-law," Isa told me. I looked over at Kol, wanting to know if he felt the same way.
"She is right, brother; if she owns your heart, then follow it," Kol told me. Thanking them both, I hugged Isa and thanked her before asking if she was alright.
She nodded and told me she was okay and that Kol was helping her through it. But looking between the two, I couldn't help but notice the strain on my brother's face. I had to wonder what was happening between them.
It wasn't long before we all heard the car pulling up to the house and the sound of the Sheriff and her daughter getting out of the vehicle.
"Mom, do you even know who used to live here?" Caroline asked her mother.
"Yes, Caroline, I do know. I found out something today about an old friend of mine, Charlie Swan. I was told today that he died three years ago, and I met his grandmother today. I brought you here to meet her," Liz said.
"Why, though," Caroline asked.
"Because she is your grandmother as well," Liz told her. That was bound to shock Caroline a little.
"Come on, let's go downstairs and meet with them both." Isa said to Kol and I.

After I left, Kol followed me and asked me if I was alright. I knew that he had put it all together, and I didn't know how I could keep any of this from him any longer. I felt horrible for keeping this hurt from my love.
"Isa, please talk to me, darling," Kol said, approaching me and pulling me into his arms.
"As soon as we arrived, I knew this was our village, and I knew where your home had once been, and I knew where my home with Elijah was, and then Klaus took us to Caroline's home, and I couldn't breathe, that was where it all started, the lies, the cheating, the abuse, the birth of our children as well as their deaths, it was all on that land where the house now stands, I tried to be strong and show you both that there was nothing wrong and that I was fine coming back here, but it kept building, the feeling of not being able to breathe, I kept feeling that Elijah was going to turn up at any second and find you both here and then find me here, I know that he's dead now and that he won't be, but being back in this place, I can't help but feel scared of every shadow Kol. I'm sorry that I kept this from you; I thought I could handle it, but I truly did. But then I learned that Caroline is Charlie's daughter, and I panicked. I don't want anything to happen to her," I told Kol. He looked worried, but he looked like he understood as well.
"Darling, look at me; nothing is going to happen to you; you are safe to come back here now. Elijah is no more, and he cannot hurt you any longer; the fact that you have another granddaughter is amazing; we can get to know her properly; the fact that Niklaus is in love with her might be his redemption; lord knows he needs redeeming. And if Caroline is anything like you, he will be saved in no time." Kol told me, kissing my forehead and pulling me close to him. We both heard Liz Forbes leave, and not long after, Klaus came to our door; he looked scared, like I was going to stop him from pursuing his love. I couldn't do that to him; after all, I found love once again in the brother of my husband, so who was I to talk? I told him that I would never stop him from finding love, and I meant it. I would help him as much as I was able to.
"Come on, let's go downstairs and meet with them both," I said to Kol and Klaus. I pulled Kol along with me, but he stopped me and asked for a moment with his brother. Klaus just looked increasingly worried. I nodded and continued downstairs. I met once again with Liz Forbes and, from the looks of it, her daughter. I was taken aback when I saw the young woman. She looked like Charlie, just with her mother's hair.
"Hi, Bella, this is Caroline. I wanted to go to her pick up, so I thought that you should meet," Liz told me.
"Wow, thank you, Liz. May I ask what information has been given?"
"I have just told her about you being Charlie's grandmother. I know it's going to be a shock for her. I always thought I had time to tell both of them, but when you have the career that Charlie and I have had, time is a luxury." Liz said. She started to tear up, and I couldn't help but pull her to me and hold her while she cried, clearly upset over the loss of her love.
"You're my grandmother?" Caroline asked me.
"Yes, I am. It's lovely to finally meet you, Caroline. My name is Bella," I smiled at the beautiful young woman in front of me. I could tell she was a vampire, but I wondered if her mother knew. So I asked under my breath.
"Does your mom know who you are, Caroline?" I asked her. She looked at Liz for a second and nodded. Ahh, so things were tense between the two of them about this then.
"Well, how about we go into the lounge and take a seat and chat before the boys come in? I have a feeling that, from what I overheard, it might be more of a shock to see them than anything else." I smiled and led the two women into the lounge. Caroline looked at me confused and then placed her hair behind her ear, making it obvious that she was trying to listen to who else was in the house.
"It's rude to eavesdrop on other people, Caroline," I said to her. She looked somewhat embarrassed.
"How. Who are you exactly?" She asked me.
"I'm Bella; I am Charlie Swan's grandmother, many times removed," I told her, indicating that she and her mother take a seat. "I have told you, Mom, about who I am and some of my history, but for now, how about you tell me about yourself, your likes, passions, dislikes and all that sort of thing," I asked as I took a seat leaving the two women to sit next to each other on the sofa.
For the next while, Caroline told me about herself, and I had to admit, she had quite a few things in common with Klaus. She reminded me so much of myself when I was younger and human, with such high ideals.
"Why are you smiling like that?" Caroline asked me.
"You remind me of myself when I was human. You have such high ideals of the world; it's beautiful to see. You have a lot of your grandfather in you as well," I told her. I did not want to think about Elijah, but when faced with our family, it was hard not to.
"Will I get to meet him as well?" She asked me.
"No, you will not," I said to her, my tone shorter than I intended it to be.
"Oh, can I ask why that is? I didn't mean to be rude or anything." Caroline said to me.
"He is dead," I said, my jaw tightening.
"Your grandfather is a touchy topic, Care," Liz told her.
"What was his name? Can I ask that?" Caroline asked. My throat dried up, and I felt like I was starting to panic.
"Your grandfather's name was Elijah. I know for a fact that you knew him, Caroline. It's lovely to see you once again," Klaus said as he walked into the lounge with Kol.
"Klaus, why are you here?" Caroline asked. I watched her. She wanted to be mad that he was here but was happy that he was too. She secretly liked him. Caroline turned to look at me. What he said was starting to take root in her mind.
"You're an Original?" Caroline said, looking around at Klaus, Kol and myself.
"I think that's what the Mikaelson's are called," I told her.
"You too, darling; you're one of us after all," Kol said to me as he picked me up from where I was seated and proceeded to place himself in my place, pulling me down onto his lap.
"So Elijah Mikaelson was my grandfather? Omg, Elena had sex with my grandfather!" Caroline said before she raised her voice, she seemed rather disgusted at the fact that my ex had slept with the doppelgänger.
"They are friends, darling," Kol told me; I must have looked confused.
"Ah, that makes sense," I told him.
"Why didn't you come to town when the rest of them were tormenting and torturing me and my friends just so that HE could make some stupid hybrids?" Caroline asked me.
"You tormented and tortured her?" I asked, getting rather angry. Getting up from Kol's lap, I went over to Klaus and threw him against the wall, holding him in place, demanding that he answer me.
"I had wanted to broker a deal with the doppelgänger, but instead, both she and her boyfriend, his brother and their friends made it their mission to find a way to kill us all. Mother came back and attempted to link us all together to kill us." Klaus told me. I looked over at Caroline, the anger showing on my face, going up to her and holding her, letting her hover above the ground.
"You tried to kill your family?" I asked Caroline.
"Isa, calm down; I'm past it now. Please let Caroline down; please don't harm your granddaughter," Kol said, coming up to me, "Come on darling, let her go, look at me, Isa, let her go, darling," Kol continued. I did as he asked; I looked at her and saw the fear on her face towards me; I felt sick. I ran from the room, needing to escape; what did I do? I'm no better than Elijah.

"Are you alright, Caroline?" I asked the young vampire, and she nodded. She was rubbing her throat a little.
"What was that about?" Caroline asked.
"She needs to know Kol, the Elijah they know is a lie," Niklaus told me.
"Can you go after Isa and see if she is alright?" I asked; even if I wanted to go myself, I needed to be the one to tell their granddaughter about them. Niklaus nodded and ran off to find my love.
"Please, if you would, Caroline. There are some things that you need to know; Liz knows some. I am guessing that is why you did not try and intervene just now." I said, looking over to the Sheriff. The woman just nodded.
"Mom?" Caroline said, hurt and confused.
"I've seen reactions like hers before in other victims," Liz told me.
"Victims? What are you going on about? How can an original be a victim of anything?" Caroline asked.
"The Elijah that you all meet when he came here first is not the real Elijah; that was nothing but a mask that he chose to show everyone; the truth is that he was nothing like that; he was not the calm voice of reason, not even with us, his siblings, and especially not with his wife. With Isa, he was abusive; he beat her within an inch of her immortal life; he was her rapist and her murderer, you are proof that they had children, but your line is the only one that survived; he killed their other two children when they were still infants because they came from her womb, she has spent the last thousand years in fear of her life, he forbid her from being around his siblings, us when she came close, he would beat her, rape her and kill her for being in the same town, even if it was by accident. He has only been truly dead for three years, at my hand, but she still struggles with the memories; she is feeling it rather strongly right now, as their home, where all the abuse started, is where your home currently stands." I went to continue when Niklaus called out to me, panicked.
I ran out immediately; what I witnessed when I entered the room tore at my heart. Isa was standing there in the kitchen with a knife slicing herself; I ran over and took the knife from her, not giving her the time to react to me.
"Shhh, darling, it's alright; I'm here," I whispered. I heard Liz and Caroline coming in. Isa sobbed into my chest, apologizing for hurting Caroline and telling me that she was just like him. I sighed. I expected her to respond like this, but I had hoped we had a little more time beforehand.

I stood there in Mikaelson's kitchen, watching Bella break down; the information that Kol had told us horrified me. I had met Elijah and thought he was all right for a vampire. To find out that he was married and knowing that he was sleeping with many of the women around town when he was here last made me sick; knowing now that he was married and he was abusive towards his wife, I had wanted to hunt him down and make him pay for it, find a way to kill that son of a bitch. I watched as Bella's reactions, the ones that I had seen in so many abused women, came to life in front of us. I witnessed Kol caring for her, just being there and letting her cry. For one of the Originals, who was meant to be the most dangerous of them all, seeing a softer side to him was strange. We all watched as he sat the two of them on the floor and just rocked Bella, trying to calm her; it was then that I saw that she had fresh wounds on her arms. She had cut herself.
"Klaus, can you please take Caroline away?" I asked the feared Hybrid. I saw how he was looking at my daughter, and for some reason, I knew I could trust him with her. That if he tried anything Kol and Bella would hurt him worse. He nodded, picked her up, and ran out of the room, I had hoped he could take her out of the house, but this would do.
"Bella, can I come closer, please?" I asked her, staying where I was until she answered.
"Sure," Kol answered. I saw her slight nod just before he verbalized it, so I walked closer to them, sitting on the floor near the pair. Kol was getting defensive, showing his vampire visage when I got too close, so I moved back a little.
"What you're going through right now is normal, but honey, it's not worth hurting yourself over," I told her, trying to help her; I had no idea how to help a vampire abuse victim; I assumed that it would be the same as anyone else.
I sat there for a while with the pair, just talking to them both. Kol talked to me, and Bella just sat him on his lap and cried. From what I could hear, she was apologizing for being like him. I could only guess that she thought she was like Elijah. After confirming with Kol what she meant, I tried to tell her she wasn't.

I took Caroline to the grill, knowing that she would need a drink after what happened. Not caring who saw us there, she was my only concern right now. Her mother had asked me to care for her, so I would be doing that. I saw the gang that was her friend when I walked in with Caroline. They all looked a mixture of angry and scared; walking her right up to the bar, I ordered a double scotch, the best they had and waited for them to pour the drink; once done, I handed the drink to her and encouraged her to drink. Telling the bar not to stop pouring drinks until the lady didn't want any more.
"How could this happen?" She asked me.
"Well, in their case, it was a, he raped her, and ended up pregnant, kind of situation," I answered; Caroline looked at me with the same derision her grandfather used to. I did not miss that look. "Look, sweetheart, your grandmother is still healing from what were several lifetimes of pain and hurt. She will lash out sometimes, but she wants the best for you. I remember when she thought that she was cursed as she had already birthed two children who had died not long after they were brought into this world. She needs time and patience." I told Caroline. I noticed then that one of the Salvatores was walking up to us, as well as the doppelgänger.
"How can I help you two on this lovely day?" I asked both of them, looking behind them to see the witch, the ripper, and my hybrid sitting at the table. Knowing that Tyler had forgotten what he had witnessed was a godsend. I was thankful that my hybrids could be compelled.
"What are you doing back in town, Klaus?" Damon asked me.
"Well, I had some family business to take care of. It's none of your concern now," I said to him, watching Caroline to ensure she was alright. I could see that she was starting to spiral, which was never a good thing.
"I think it would be better if you left town permanently," Damon told me. I ignored him. I had more important things to take care of.
"I would love to give into your every need, but as I said, I have things to take care of. Now, if you would, leave us be for a while," I told the two of them.
"How about no, and Caroline can come with us? Whatever it is, we can help her just fine," Damon said. In that second, I saw my brother's temper coming out.
"Klaus said to leave; now, can't you just do that? Can we leave, please? I need to leave." Caroline asked me. I nodded and escorted her out of the bar. After all, Caroline had just been given a lot of information about family that she didn't know she had. "Why did he show us that he was someone who cared when from what you were telling me, he couldn't give a damn about anyone other than Bella's sister? How could he treat his wife like that? Aren't you meant to love the woman you choose to marry?" Caroline asked me.
"Firstly, neither of them chose to marry the other. Isa married Elijah for the sake of her family's honour, and because her father told her that was how it would happen, Mikael told Elijah he was going to marry Isa to try and save him from himself. From what we had discovered, Elijah was never a good person; he had secrets from his own secrets. He never loved his wife; he only ever loved Tatia, not that Isa tried to get her husband to love her, she did; he gave him everything that he asked for, sometimes to the detriment of her own health." I told Caroline honestly.
"Why didn't she just leave him?" Caroline asked me.
"It was not something that was widely done back when we were human. Her sister was married, and her husband left her and banished her from their village; she came back shamed and had to move back with her parents. She took right back up with Elijah. Tatia was a manipulative woman, only ever out to get what only she wanted, everyone else be damned. Isa is a proud woman, but she was always scared of Elijah; I don't believe that even the strongest woman would not have been scared if she had faced what my sister faced. My brother broke Isa completely. She deserved so much better, and now she has it." I told the young woman that I had come to care deeply for.
"Who?" Caroline asked.
"She was able to find love with her original love, Kol. They have loved each other since they were human. They honoured her marriage to Elijah and never did anything about their feelings. Now they are free to follow their feelings for each other." I smiled, thinking about the shy looks towards each other they gave when they thought no one was watching them.
"Will she be alright?" she asked me, but I didn't have time to answer when we were interrupted again.
"Caroline, are you alright? Why don't you come with us? Bonnie and I can help you with whatever problem you have," the doppelgänger said.
"You know what, Elena, I'm in the position because YOU slept with my grandfather, so no, I will not come with you. I would like it if you left me alone. Klaus, can you take me to my grandmother, please?" Caroline asked me. I nodded and led her back home. We both heard Isa before we even entered the house. She was crying again, we heard Liz talking to her, telling her that she was alright, that none of this was her fault. That it was good to be able to let it all out.
"Mom is really good with her," Caroline said.
"I would hazard a guess that she sees many people in Isa's shoes," I told her quietly. Caroline nodded and walked into the house, making her way to Isa.
"Grandma, are you alright?" Caroline asked Isa. Her voice was so tender that she was worried, which was understandable. She slowly approached Isa, Kol, and her mother, giving all three time to react.
"Care, it might be best if you head home right now; give Bella some space," Liz told her.
KPOV
Caroline came back with Niklaus, but they were not the only ones to arrive at the house. I heard two others walking up to it, trying to be quiet. If I had to guess, they were humans.
"Grandma, are you alright?" Caroline asked Isa. I felt her turn and look at Caroline; looking down at her, I could see her tear-streaked face, so I pulled her closer to me. Making sure that she knew she was safe and that I would not let anyone hurt her. I looked at Liz, watching as she smiled at her daughter.
"Sorry about what I said and did to Klaus and your family. I didn't know that they were my family, too." I saw the sincerity on my niece's face; she truly believed what she was saying. Isa nodded her head before she looked up at me and asked if she could have a few minutes alone with her granddaughter. I nodded and let go of her.
"I love you. Just call, and I will be back before you know it," I told her, kissing her before I walked out to find my brother standing in the foyer, being confronted by the doppelgängers little witch.
"You were never meant to return, yet here you are. I told you that if you ever returned, there would be consequences." Bonnie told him.
"And yet, the reason we are here has nothing to do with you, and yet here you are, making threats when we have no care for you whatsoever; we have not threatened you at all. We have been nothing but peaceful towards you all. And yet here you are making threats," I told the young witch as I came to stand next to my brother.
"Ah, Kol. I discovered today that Caroline gets her temper from Isa's husband; I would hate to be on the receiving end, wouldn't you? After all, our temper is legendary." Niklaus told me.
"What," I asked again, hoping he didn't just say that.
"Yes, I saw it in action earlier today." He replied. I ran back to Isa to see Caroline stake Isa before she snapped her mother's neck. I ran up to her and returned the favour, snapping Caroline's neck before I helped Isa. Pulling the stake out, I called for Niklaus; once he arrived, I told him to pick up Caroline and put her in the cells in the basement. Praying that he didn't argue with me on this. Once Isa woke, I would discover what happened to lead to this. I cared not for the witch; she could jump into a volcano for all I cared.
It didn't take long for Isa to come back to me. She sat up, looking scared and panicked. Running over to her, I started to calm her. Once she was calm, I asked her what had happened.
"Where did I go wrong as a mother? Was it when I let my son be killed by his own father? Was I really cursed like he told me I was? What was it?" Isa said, upset.
"As much as I am sure that you do not want to, we need to go and see her and find out what brought this on," I told Isa. I picked her up, helping her stand. I waited for her answer before I moved us to the cells. Isa took a deep breath before nodding her acceptance. I walked with her down to the basement to confront the girl. I stopped us just outside the door when I heard Niklaus talking to the girl.
"Why did you dagger your grandmother Caroline?" My brother asked.
"Why not? I could tell the kind of woman she was just by looking at her; for an original, she was weak. She really puts your family to shame." Caroline told Niklaus. Isa pulled away from me, standing on her own. I stood there listening to the conversation in front of me. "It's clear that she is just attaching herself to Kol so that she can have someone to take care of her; she wants to be a part of your family; I mean, did she sleep with Mikael in order to be turned with the rest of you? Lord knows that Esther would have turned her willingly unless she was told to." Caroline told Niklaus. She sounded like Elijah right now. I could understand why Isa reacted the way that she had.
I turned to tell Isa not to listen to her, but she was gone. I ran around the house looking for her, but she was nowhere.
I went back down to the basement to tell my brother. And to kill my niece.
"Isa has left; she heard what this bitch said and has left," I told him. I watched his hybrid visage take over. Looking towards her, pulling the cell door open, he walked in and bit her before coming out and closing the door once more.
"Let's go and find Isa, shall we?" Niklaus said. We walked up to find the witch, the doppelgänger, and Damon Salvatore. I had to wonder what else was going to hold us up.
"Where is Caroline?" The doppelgänger asked.
"Sitting in a cell sporting a lovely little, very special hickey. Now we do not have time to sit around for idol chit-chat; we have someone to find," Niklaus said before starting to walk away.
"You mean the sexy brunette? Yeah, I snapped her neck and sent her off with Stephan until you dicks, actually do what you promised us all." Damon said to us.
KLPOV
Kol growled before he ran off. I knew that he would find her. After all, they had a bond that I could only dream of having.
"You made a big mistake doing that, mate," I told Damon, smiling. The idiot thought he had leverage. He did not.
"What are you talking about, Klaus? And what have you done to Caroline?" Elena asked me.
"Caroline, well, she isn't who you all think she is; she has a side of her that none of you will see. The funny thing, though, is it looks like she inherited this little personality trait. Its rather nasty, it's also rather volatile, we never knew about any other having inherited this trait, we thought it died with her grandfather. Clearly, it has not." I told them, going to sit down at the dining room table, putting my feet up and waiting for Kol to return with Isa.
"Again, Klaus, what are you talking about?" Damon asked. Bonnie just looked at me as if some puzzle pieces were finally fitting together.
"You knew, didn't you, Bonnie," I asked her; she looked at her friends and just nodded. I started to wonder if Caroline had ever treated any of her friends with such violent threats.
"Who did she inherit from?" Bonnie asked.
"Her grandfather, you all know him," I said without looking away from Bonnie; she had been on more than the receiving end of Caroline's words. I had to wonder what else Caroline had done to the young witch.
I sat there just watching the young witch, waiting for Kol to bring back Isa if he could, of which I had no doubt, I just watched them all, and all of them looked to be becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the silence. I couldn't help but smile at their discomfort. It was during this time that I realized where I had seen the look on Bonnie's face before, Isa had bore the same features after Elijah had hurt her. I got up and walked over to the young witch, looked down at her for a while before pulling her into me and just holding her for a time, it was not long before she started to break down.
"What are you doing to Bonnie?" Elena asked me. I ignored her, as this was none of her concern, and I had my doubts that Bonnie would want them to know; if she was anything like my sister, then the answer would be a resounding 'no'.
"It's alright, Bonnie, let it out," I told her. "If there is nothing else, I suggest you leave," I told the rest of them.
"We aren't leaving without our friend. Where is Caroline, and what's wrong with Bonnie?" Elena asked. I was not about to tell the doppelgänger anything.
"Caroline will not be leaving here, and as for Bonnie, well, I think she can make up her own mind," I told the doppelgänger.
"Bonnie, come on, we need to find Caroline and get out of here," Elena said, inching forward and looking at me warily.
"I don't want to go," Bonnie said, surprising Damon. He didn't look very please when he heard that she didn't want to leave, clearly he thought all of them should hate me and my family. It wasn't long, and the two kept attempting to get Bonnie to leave with them and help them find Caroline when Kol walked through the door holding Isa. Elena and Damon now needed to leave.
"Elena, Damon, if you would please leave, it might pay to go and check on Stephan," I told the two of them. Elena just looked at Damon and ran out the door. Damon followed soon after.
"Bonnie, do you want to tell me what upset you? I know that it has to do with Caroline, otherwise you would not have reacted this way." I asked her while keeping an ear on Isa and Kol.
"She didn't want anyone to know; she told me she loved me, we had been dating on and off for a couple of years, and she just used Tyler to make sure no one knew that she preferred women, just like I used Jeremy in much the same way, we both knew that Elena would have never accepted us together, but she became so mean, she started to tell me that I would never be a part of her family, that I was nothing, I would never be anything, that I was even a failure as a witch and a daughter, so much so that my own mother left me," Bonnie told me. It seemed like Caroline was sounding more na d more like her grandfather the more I heard about what she had done.
"Bonnie, I want you to listen to me. You are better than all of that. You are not a failure, and you did not push your mother away. I can find out, if you would like, why exactly she left, but I know that it was not because of you. Anyone would be proud to have you as their daughter." I told the young witch, holding her face so that she would concentrate on me alone.
"I love her, Klaus." Bonnie cried.
"I know love. But sometimes you need to let the ones you love go." I told her. She cried more, and I just held on to her and let her do so.
Not many were able to see this side of me, and I wondered why I was allowing the little witch to see this side of me now. I put that thought away for now and concentrated on the little witch in my arms, trying to help her come to terms with the one who hurt her.
I took the young witch upstairs so that she was able to rest and so that I could check on Isa and Kol. As I was about to walk into my bedroom, I saw Isa walk out and look at the young woman in my arms.
"Is she alright? What happened?" Isa asked; I looked over and saw Kol walking out of their room, clearly worried about his Isa.
"Let's just say that you and Bonnie have a fair amount in common," I told her. Isa came over to me and led me to her room. She told me to place Bonnie down on her bed and that she would take care of her. I only just noticed that the young witch had fallen asleep. She must be exhausted.
"Nik, We need to do something about the Sheriff; after all, her daughter killed her. And she is still lying on the living room floor." Kol told me. I looked towards young Bonnie and followed my little brother to clean up Caroline's mess in the living room. It was decided not long after that we would stage her death.
BPOV
I laid down with the young woman that Klaus had brought upstairs; I just watched her, making sure that she would be right; I heard the brothers talking about what to do with the sheriff's body before coming up with a plan. I just listened to them taking the sheriff out of the house. It was all quiet for a while before I heard someone picking the lock of the house, I listened, and I heard my sister's voice, so I knew that it was the newest doppelgänger and whatever sucker she managed to dig her claws into.
"Bonnie and Caroline have to be around here somewhere; we have to get them both away from the originals. I don't know what Klaus and Kol have done to the two of them, but we need to get them both out of here while they are gone." I heard the doppelgänger saying. They had no idea that I was here. I knew that Klaus had Caroline down in the basement cells; Kol told me that Klaus bit her so that she wasn't going to last long in this life; at a guess, Caroline was now starting to hallucinate, and if she got out, then that was not going to be good for anyone. Knowing that I had to be the one to protect young Bonnie, I stood and went over to the windows, making sure that they were locked; placing my gloves on, I covered the windows and the entire door in vervain in case the doppelgänger had vampires with her, they wouldn't be able to come in, no matter what entry point they attempted. I needed to keep the young witch safe; she had been through so much already because of my granddaughter, and no more harm would come to her. She deserves to be able to live her life freely. Without threats or pain.
I knew that the brothers would be home when they finished dealing with Liz's death. I felt bad that she had to die for her daughter's likes. I felt responsible for all of this. After all, Caroline had my DNA in her, not only Elijah's. It had been 1000 years too long, and I had to deal with this once and for all.
I had to end my family line.
I listened and knew when they had found Caroline; I knew that the doppelgänger had brought with her two others, clearly thinking that they would be enough to overthrow the three of us. So not only were they young and stupid, but they were also following an imbecile.
"Do you know if any of them are home right now, Elena?" I hear Stephan ask.
"I saw Klaus and Kol taking out something, so I know that they aren't home; the other one that hangs around with them, I doubt that she is stronger than you both; after all, you were able to take her without any issue, she didn't even fight you," Elena said, god, she was so ignorant, just like my sister, she thought that she was above everyone.
"I found Caroline, but it looks like she's been bitten. We need to find a way that Klaus will give us his blood to save her." Damon told them both. I heard Caroline crying out, looking around I saw the chair that Kol and I had broken earlier; picking up the leg, I quietly and painfully went to open the door when I felt a hand on my shoulder, looking back I saw Bonnie; I told her to be quiet, that I could hear movement outside the door, she nodded.
"Am I safe here from Caroline?" Bonnie asked me in a whisper. I nodded and smiled towards her,
"I am going to put an end to Caroline; she won't hurt you any longer," I told her. Bonnie looked relieved.
"Is it bad that I want that too? I love her, but I want to be free." She asked me.
"No, it's not. You deserve to be free and live your life away from threats or pain." I told her. I told her to stay where she was and that I would return to get her soon. I could hear the two brothers; one had Caroline, and the other, at my guess, was staying with the doppelgänger.
As I walked out of my bedroom, ensuring the area was clear, looking over the railing, I saw Damon carrying Caroline and Stephan with his arm around the doppelgänger. I knew that I would be faster than anything they could see, so I made my move, knowing that I would need to be precise. I would need to stake Caroline while running past Damon fast enough that they would not be able to see me. I ran as fast as I could, thankful that I could get the stake through to Caroline's heart on the first try. Before making my way up to the landing again, I ensured that Bonnie was alright.
Thankfully, she was, and none of the idiots below figured that she was awake and watching them.
Once they all realized that Caroline had been staked, there was a lot of yelling, enough to wake the dead. I hoped the dead would stay that way, but you never know. I put my arm around Bonnie and asked if she was alright, just comforting her; after all, I had just killed not only my granddaughter but her girlfriend as well. There was so much commotion downstairs that I wanted to shut them up.
"I'm alright; thank you for doing that. Everyone thought that she was this really nice and bubbly person. No one believed me when I said that she had a dark side, that she was really mean, that she was abusive. No one believed me until you came to town. You knew what she was like, but how?" Bonnie asked me.
"I would like to know that, too. And who the hell you are exactly? Who do you think you are coming into our town and staking one of our friends?" Damon said, followed by Stephan and the doppelgänger.
"Well, for one, that is none of your business, and I would like it if you removed yourselves from my home," I told the three who had broken into this house.
"Just an FYI, this place belongs to Klaus, aka the big bad hybrid dick", Damon said, moving closer to me. But I saw that the doppelgänger was moving closer to Bonnie as well. I grabbed hold of Bonnie and jumped over the railing and towards the lounge; at least this way, the two of us would not be backed into a corner. Bonnie was my priority; she needed my help and would get it.
"What the hell is wrong with you? Let Bonnie go now. She isn't any part of this; let her go," the doppelgänger told me. I just laughed at her.
"I will do no such thing, doppelgänger, but I will protect Bonnie, even from the likes of you all. I have heard enough from Klaus, Kol and Liz that when the doppelgänger says jump, the Salvatores ask how high, and the town is left in shambles in the aftermath. So no. You can all leave, and Bonnie will stay with me." I told the three of them. Stephan kept looking at me like he thought that I was a puzzle to solve, and Damon was looking at me like he was thinking about ways to kill me to get to Bonnie.
"Why do you keep calling me doppelganger? I have a name, you know," the doppelganger said to me. I just scoffed. I didn't care that she had a name; I wouldn't use it.
"I don't care what your name is. To me, you're the whore that slept with my husband, like as my sister did, and every other doppelganger and anyone else who he decided to fuck." I growled at the copy.
"Who the hell is your husband, and why would I care if your sister slept with your husband?" The doppelganger said, looking at the two brothers.
"I would leave if I were you. After all, you wouldn't want to be here once Klaus and Kol get back, now would you?" I told the three of them. I didn't feel up to answering their questions; who I was was really any of their business.
"We are not going anywhere until you tell us what we want to know, starting with who the hell you are," the doppelganger said to me, stepping forward. She really was just like Tatia; I had learned long ago that she was nothing but an immature little whore, that used sex to get what she wanted. Who was jealous of everyone. I ran over to her and shoved my hand through her cheek, wrapping my hand around her heart.
"If you do not leave, I will remove my hand, but what I hold will also be removed. Try anything at all, and I rip my hand out of her chest, bringing her heart with it. So boys, leave now, or your precious doppelganger with be dead before you can take a step towards me. If you try anything against me, I will also rip her heart out. It might be time for you boys to learn that the doppelganger will always sleep with the one who will give her what she wants. How many Originals have you slept with or flirted with? How many men and boys from around here have you fucked just to get something that you deemed belonged to you when it didn't? Have you been honest with your boyfriend over there? I know that you have slept with his brother when Damon had something that you wanted," I said not once taking my eyes off the doppelganger. But I could see that she was panicking and in pain, and the brothers both looked at each other, one looking angry and the other looking guilty.
"Still keeping secrets, are we?" I asked her. Blood was starting to come out of her mouth; her breathing was picking up. All I could do was smile.
"It doesn't sound like young Elena has much time left, what with my sister's hand through her chest and all," Klaus said. So they were home.
"They attempted to remove Caroline from the house, Klaus, but I had to stake her; if she had gotten out, she would have decimated this town. After all, we all know what a werewolf bit does to vampires." I told him, smiling even through my heartbreak. I saw Kol standing next to Klaus, and I knew that he saw what that action would have done to me. I watched as he just nodded to me, sending me a little smile. Klaus ran over to check on Bonnie, and I knew that he would care for her; she would be safe with him once she learned to trust again.
Stephan ran over to Kol and stabbed him with the stake I used on Caroline; I didn't even see him pick it up. Ripping my hand out of the doppelganger's chest, I dropped her heart on the ground, killing her.
"I warned you I would rip her heart out if you tried anything," I told them; Stephan looked broken. Clearly, he thought I was bluffing.
"I will kill you for this," Damon said, picking up the doppelganger and leaving, Stephan picking up her heart and following his brother. I went over to Kol and removed the stake, sitting there and waiting for him to return to me.
BPOV (Bonnie)
I watched, it was all I could do. Watch as Stephan killed Kol, and that woman killed Elena. She told them to leave; I just knew that Stephan or Damon would do something to get someone killed. I didn't even know the name of the woman he killed, Caroline, for hurting me or Elena. I didn't know why it was that I didn't feel any hate toward her or anger towards her for killing my girlfriend.
Who was this woman? Why was I alright with Klaus being so close to me suddenly? It was like I instinctively knew that he would understand, and as soon as his arms were around me, I was safe to cry over all that Caroline had done to me.
I watched Stephan and Damon leave with Elena's body. I waited for a while. Klaus came over to me and asked me if I was right before he stood in front of me; I knew he was protecting me. After all this time, I thought he was the bad guy, and I treated him like he was the bad guy; suddenly, it was like I knew that I had been wrong, that he was protecting his family, and that included this mystery woman that was fawning over Kol.
"Klaus, can I ask who she is?" I asked quietly.
"This is Isabella. She was Elijah's wife and Kol's first love. She and Elijah were Caroline's grandparents," Klaus told me. I couldn't believe it.
"Is she an original as well?" I asked him.
"Yes, she is. We all turned together, in a manner of speaking," Klaus told me.
"Why can I trust you? You used to be the bad guy, but I know that I can trust you, that you were never the bad guy," I told him. I wanted answers but didn't know how to ask the right questions.
"I was never the bad guy, love," I heard Isabella scoff. Alright, Isa, I was, but not all the time. I was looking out for and protecting my family. Some perceived my actions to be of a negative connotation," Klaus told me. I found myself smiling at that.
"What is going on between them?" I asked, looking over at Isabella and Kol.
"That is their story to tell. But the basics are that they are each other's first loves. If you want to know any more, it would be best to ask them once they are back with us." Klaus told me. I had to wonder if this was going to more of a toll on my magic, it was bad enough that I had a hard time doing magic when I was with Caroline, but now that she is dead, and I am still standing in the hose of the Originals, what toll would it have on me? I wished that I could talk to my grams. I always thought I made the right choice, but I always ended up hurt or someone I loved. My grams died because Damon wanted to get Katherine out of the tomb, and she wasn't even in; my own girlfriend ended up beating me. I listened to Klaus talking with Isabella, both of them waiting for Kol to wake up.
"When are the rest of your siblings arriving?" I asked Klaus.
"Well, Rebecca and Elijah are dead, meet the end of a white oak stake, and Finn is off with our father, attempting to rekindle their strained bond," Klaus told me. I was surprised. "Yes, I guess that you would be surprised, but both Elijah and Rebecca deserved what they got in the end." Klaus continued.
"I thought that Elijah was trying to redeem you or something like that?" I asked him.
"Elijah was only ever trying to redeem himself to his next conquest," Isabella told me.
"I'm sorry if one of you already told me this; it's been a day. But why do you hate Elijah so much? And what about Rebecca?" I asked them both.
"Elijah was my husband, and yes, you have already been told that fact from Klaus; he was horribly abusive in all ways you can imagine; Rebecca was nothing but a two-faced trollop. I believed her to be a friend once upon a time before my sister got in her ear with lies. I do not like talking about my relationship with either of them, as up until a few years ago, I had thought Rebecca to be a friend, one that I was not awfully close to, but a friend nonetheless." Isabella told me. I had this mental image in my mind of the last time I saw Elijah and Rebecca, and it wasn't a long shot for me to believe that Rebecca would be like she described, but it was hard for me to believe that about Elijah, he was meant to be the Nobel one, even the spirits had told me that much, they had told me that out of all the siblings that he was the one that could be trusted.
"Wow, that's all right. Thank you for telling me. I appreciate your trust," I told her. I watched as she narrowed her eyes at me briefly before sighing and nodding her head towards me. I told them that I should get home and that my dad had given me a curfew. She smiled and said that she hoped I would get the help I needed to get past what Caroline had done to me. I returned her gesture and left the Mikaelson house.
~M~
The Mikaelson's stayed in the area for a while after the death of Elena and Caroline, both of whom I thought I would miss more than I did, Isabella really did free me that day, and I found myself spending more and more time with Klaus, I never really got to know him before, with the whole doppelganger ritual thing happening, and with him sacrificing Elena's aunt Jenna and all. But I found that he was actually an alright guy. I met Finn and Mikael when they came into town, and Damon and Stefan tried to run them out of town, just for Mikael to tell the two that it was their town long before it became Mystic Falls, and if they tried anything again, that he would kill the both of them. Katherine came looking for Stephan and was horrified when she was confronted by Klaus, who apparently decided that he was tired of her running, and in a move that had me surprised, he ripped out her heart, ending her life once and for all.
I shocked myself when I watched him do that. I ended up kissing him and thanking him for preventing her from tormenting us again. He surprised me by pulling me into him and kissing me back. I had to admit, I enjoyed it. We got to know each other better after that day, and he asked me to go on a date with him, which I accepted.
That night was the best of my life. Four years later, on a trip to New Orleans, he asked me to marry him, and I said yes. I was currently getting ready to walk down the aisle and meet him.
My dad had died of a heart attack two years ago, so I asked Mikael to walk me down the aisle; when he told me that he would be honoured to do so, I cried and thanked him; Izzy had agreed to become my maid of honour, as she and I had gotten really close, especially after Kol and she married last year. I learned about her background and understood why she was like she was. If I had been in her shoes for that long, I know that I would have gone certifiably insane; they would have had to lock me up and throw away the key. As cliche as it was, we bonded over our shared trauma. We still had moments when something would trigger a flashback, and we would become a total hot mess. When that happened the first time, Klaus was my rock; he sat there that first time and just stayed in the room with me, not coming close at all, just talking to me about mundane things; before I knew what was happening, he was sitting next to me, still talking to me. He let me take as much time as needed to come through this; once I finally had, he held me as I cried, telling me that it was alright, that I was going to be alright. He threatened to kill everyone who thought about hurting me in any way. I started to fall in love with him. Even when we first started to become friends, it wasn't long before he became my best friend.
Strangely enough, this morning, getting ready to start the rest of my life with Klaus, my nerves were getting the best of me; I couldn't keep anything down at all. Izzy kept looking at me, a sly smile on her face.
"I'm just going to shoot out for a second; you have time before you need to get started getting dressed. Drink some water, and try and calm down. Can you do that for me, Bon?" Izzy asked me. I just nodded and took the bottle of water she handed me. She was correct; she wasn't gone very long at all. When she returned, I looked at her and ran to throw up. All I had eaten today was fruit, but I couldn't keep it down for some reason. The idea of wanting to eat anything was somewhat off-putting. "Bon, I need you to drink more," Izzy told me.
"I can't; I have to pee as it is," I told her; she just smiled. She helped me stand up, smiling. She ran to get something, and a split second later, she was back in front of me.
"Good, go and pee and take this," Izzy told me, handing me a pregnancy test. How did she even have this? why did she have this?
"You can't be serious. I can't be pregnant; Klaus is a vampire." I told her, looking at her incredulously.
"No, Kluas is a hybrid. Just go and take the test. Humour me, will you?" Izzy said, smiling. I rolled my eyes and just went. It was no good to argue with her when she got like this. I took the test, knowing that it would come back negative, and all my vomiting was just nerves surrounding the wedding. I returned and placed the test on the vanity before I continued to get ready to walk down the aisle to meet Klaus. I was touching up my makeup and fixing my hair when Izzy gasped. She was holding my test.
"I don't know what to say. Here, look." Izzy said, handing me the test.
KLPOV
Standing and getting ready for the biggest day of my life, I couldn't help but smile. I knew Bonnie before from when I broke my curse; I knew she didn't like me much then, but I still have an immense respect for my little witch. I indeed respect all of the witches, but with Bonnie, I know she is truly mine. I asked Kol if he would stand with me on this day, and he informed me that he was happy to do so; we both sat here, bourbon in hand and reminisced about how long it took to get to where we are now. Looking up at the clock, I noticed that it was time to start getting ready; after all, I was about to marry the woman who stole my heart.
It didn't take long for Kol and I to get dressed and ready; I had just turned to ask Kol if he remembered the rings when I saw Isa pulling him away. She kept looking over at me, and I couldn't help but start to worry that something was wrong with Bonnie. Isa kissed my brother, and he came back to me. I just stood there waiting for him to tell me what that was all about. He never did.
"Everything alright, brother?" I asked him, looking towards the door.
"Absolutely. There is nothing to concern yourself with. Isa was letting me know that Bonnie is just having a problem with her hair, so she might be a minute or two late getting to you," Kol told me.
"That is all?" I asked him.
"Yes, stop your worry; there is nothing to concern yourself with. Bonnie still wants to marry you; for some reason, she finds you attractive." Kol told me. I couldn't help but smile at my little brother.
"Well, if there is nothing, shall we get on with it?" I asked him.
"Yes, well, let's get on with it then. And yes, I have the rings." Kol told me when I turned to ask him. I couldn't help but smile. I was getting married today.
Standing before everyone we held dear, I waited for my bride—not that I had to wait long at all. As soon as I saw her, time seemed to stop; all I could see was Bonnie walking towards me. The rest of the ceremony went by in a blur. I said my part, ensuring she would be mine for all eternity before I finally heard the minister tell us that we were now husband and wife. Pulling her closer to me, I kissed my wife.
"I'm Pregnant," Bonnie whispered, pulling back from me for a second before kissing me once again.
The End
