Yet Another Chapter Designated As An Author's Note Because I Cannot Explain Things in A Concise Manner To Save My Life:
Hi, it's been a minute since I made a full chapter for an author's note, hasn't it?
I promise this one won't be as long. I had just had too much to say about this story - to preface it with, rather, to attach this note to a chapter.
This story is about abortion. If that makes you uncomfortable or if you have a feeling that this story may upset you, please proceed with caution, or consider maybe sitting this story out. I promise I won't be offended. With that being said, I've had some reservations about publishing this story. I've had this idea for awhile, but knowing what a polarizing topic abortion can be, I shied away from it. I know the fanfiction world tends to be an escape from the real world for many people, myself included, and I was hesitant to bring politics (even though abortion shouldn't be a political topic but rather a matter of healthcare, I acknowledge that many people view it that way) into my writing.
However, I realized that JAG is a very political show - this was something that became especially clear to me upon rewatch. How could it not be? Most of its major plot lines center around the US military and US government. So...wouldn't it kind of make sense for some politics to make an appearance in my stories, even if it was just this one?
With Roe v. Wade recently being overturned in the US, for a while I didn't feel it was really appropriate to post this, but it's my feelings now that abortion is something that should be talked about, and the status of Roe isn't something that should impact that. Additionally, this is just an idea I had for a story and I wanted to write it.
Also I've always taken issue with how the JAG writers handled Singer's character. I'm not the biggest fan of Singer (is anyone?) and I know the JAG producers needed to find a way to weave NCIS into the storyline, but I really didn't enjoy how they chose to end her character's arc, and I wanted to tweak some things. So, this is my attempt at doing that. I'm fully aware that there are going to be some people who will not like this story - people who will probably hate it. I usually write more light-hearted things, so this is a little bit out of my comfort zone, if I'm being completely transparent. But this idea wouldn't leave me alone, so I chose to write it. This story is finished - it's not more than a handful of chapters, and I'll be uploading the rest as I edit them.
I was going to end this by saying that I hoped you guys will enjoy reading this, but given the serious topic I felt weird saying that. So, I hope you read this and think it's good? Or think it's whatever? I don't know. I'm just going to stop talking now and let you guys read.
