Thunder roared as rain stormed down as he tried his hardest to traverse the dense woods in hopes of making it to his destination as quickly as he could.

Logan Howlett, Otherwise known as Wolverine was on an important mission, a mission to deliver precious cargo to the safe haven. He held a vital key to the future of mutant-kind in his arms, placed in a basket, and wrapped with blankets to prevent the poor thing from freezing.

Logan was grateful the trees blocked a good chunk of the rain from landing on the basket. Normally, the cold of the rain hardly worried him. Most of his life, at least most that he could remember, was spent in the untamed wilds of Canada. The winters were often so cold it could bring down even a specialized human man. But Logan wasn't an ordinary man. He was a mutant. He could handle the cold easily, but for a newborn baby, hypothermia was a one-way ticket to the end of life before they could even begin.

A bright light flashed in the sky, thunder cracking behind it, to Logan it hurt his ears. Even with his ears stinging from the thunder, Logan could hear a faint whimper from the basket that usually signaled the upcoming crying wails of a terrified baby.

Logan opened the blanket and quietly hushed the child. Who was only seconds away from crying, clearly scared of the scary noises from outside the basket.

"I'm sorry pup" Logan quietly whispered, the whimpers quieting down "We're almost there, and the bad noises won't be so bad anymore" The baby quieted down as Logan closed the blankets and continued on. After an extra hour of Walking, Logan found what he was looking for. The house was small, and modest-looking. Painted a light green with white accents, and a dark brown roof. The house had a small dock as it was connected to a giant lake. A white sailboat sits near the dock.

Logan hesitantly looked at the house, then looked at the basket. His head was telling him not to do it, but deep down in his gut, Logan knew that if he wanted a chance for the kid to survive, this was the only way.

Sighing deeply, Logan opened the blanket one last time, the child inside was awake and staring back at him. Logan gave a small smile.

"It's funny, Meeting like this. I wish I could have known about you before this whole mess pup" Logan's smile faded as the baby proceeded to chew his hand.

"But it ain't your fault. You didn't ask for this, Just like...her." Logan hesitated for a few moments "This is all kinda my fault huh? Everything you are...is all because of me"

The baby cooed and proceeded to chew his second blanket, Logan snickered softly. So small. so innocent. Not even aware his birth was motivated by greed and blood. Unaware of the carnage caused, and the Violent intentions that were meant for him. Not on Logan's watch, he vowed he wouldn't let another kid of his to be used as a weapon.

"The Hudson's are good people, and if I don't make it..."

Logan paused making eye contact with the baby. sighing again and closing the blanket and making his way towards the door of the house. The lights were on, and despite the rain the scents were fresh. Mac and Heather were here.

Logan knocked on the door hard and sternly. A few moments later, James Mac Hudson answered the door. The man's short black hair, laid slightly messy over his head, he was at least a foot taller than Logan, and wore a simple gray shirt and sweatpants.

"Logan? What are you doing here?" The man asked, perplexed , eyeing the Basket in Logan's arms. His wife Heather followed behind him. She wore a similar outfit to her husband, only her bright red hair was tied into a neat ponytail that fell over her shoulder. "Please come in, it's certainly pouring out there" Mac gleefully said

"I'd Love to Hudson.. But I'm not here for small talk" Logan answered seriously. Mac' expression changed to one of concern

"Why are you here then? Don't get me wrong old friend, but I doubt you would come all this way just to say Hi and then leave" Mac replied, Logan could tell his friends were puzzled but Logan didn't have much time to catch him up to speed.

"I'm here to drop something off" Logan grunted

Mac blinked in surprise, "Drop off what? Is that what the basket's for?"

Heather poked her head out the door frame to catch a glimpse of what the men were talking about. "What's in there?" She asked, pointing at the basket

Logan opened the blanket revealing a baby, gleefully chewing on his hands. Mac and Heather gasped in shock

"A kid, my kid" Logan answered.

"Logan, oh my god, LOGAN You are NOT dumping your one-night-stand mistake onto me and Heather to take care of!" Mac answered angrily, Logan stared at him annoyed.

"Hudson-"

"Whatever fling you had is not my problem! you should take responsibility and take care of your own ki-"

"HUDSON! How about you let me finish before you go yapping my ears off!" Logan snarled angrily. Mac retracted in surprise.

"Look." Logan continued sternly "This kid wasn't born...traditionally, let's say that, but he has my blood in him. He was born, just like her"

Mac quickly realized that things were not what he assumed, and what was originally anger quickly turned to shame, then pity.

Logan continued "And right now, the X-men are dealing with some bad, bad, situations. The institute isn't safe for him, not right now at least. and I can't just leave him alone. if the MRD finds him, they'll kill him, if the brotherhood finds him, he'll be turned into a weapon."

Logan stared at the baby, hurt in his eyes. "I came here, because I figured, since you and Heather wanted a baby anyway, that you'd take care of him" Logan handed the basket over to the Hudsons, Mac eyed the basket for a few seconds before taking it from Logan. The baby inside cooed and took a break from chewing his fists. Heather and Mac both gave a small smile before turning back to Logan.

"How long will we be caring for him?" Mac asked. Logan's face fell before replying somberly

"I don't know. There a chance I might not make it"

Mac gave a small shocked expression "What? but, your Wolverine, won't you be fine?"

"I don't know," Logan replied bitterly. "There are strong forces in place, aand we are risking everything we have, its just not safe, and there is a chance I wont come back"

Mac gave his friend a somber expression, If the Wolverine was worried about the prospect of death, things really were bad. a few moments of silence passed before being broken by Logan.

"If I do make it, I'll come back for him. But if I don't." Logan eyed the basket before facing the Hudsons "If I don't make it, promise you'll take good care of him. And if he's a Mutant, promise you'll tell him everything"

Mac looked at the baby, then looked at his friend, then turned to his wife. the two nodded, seemingly in agreement, and turned back to Logan.

"We promise," Mac assured.

Logan gave a pained smile before looking in the basket again, reaching his hand into it, the baby turned to him and grasped Logan's pointer finger. the tiny hand barely wrapping around it.

"What's his name?" Heather asked. Logan turned to her, "Scott and Jeanie suggested I name him James. since it's my original name."

Mac smiled slightly, what a coincidence.

"I'm sorry pup" Logan spoke to the baby "But I have to leave, If I don't make it.." Logan paused for a few moments, "I wish we had more time"

Logan let go of the baby's hand and spoke to Heather and Mac.

"Thank you," Logan replied.

"Thank you, too , old friend," Mac Answered.

Logan gave one last pained smile, before taking off. before Mac and Heather knew it, the man was gone and disappeared into the storm.

The couple closed the door and stared at the baby again. Baby James had somewhat pale skin and almost gold-blonde hair. the child cooed at them, they couldn't help it and smile.

"What are you gonna do with two James' in the house?" Mac Hudson asked his wife humorusly

"Firstly, You'll always be Mac to me" Heather replied sweetly, coddling the baby who eyed them both curiously. "But I think giving him a nickname would be good"

"Oh, then what should we call him?" her husband asked, puzzled.

"How about Jimmy?"

The two smiled, Mac was a man of his word. and with that, the couple welcomed Baby Jimmy Howlett Hudson jr into their Family.
