Hi! So here is another story from me for this wonderful fandom. I wanted to get this out before the start of the New Year but I was burning the candles at both ends so to speak finishing up all my other stories so I decided the best thing to do was to take a little break and recharge and get into a good place to start this one.
So on a few notes: I have always wanted to write a story with all four sisters. Shannon did such a wonderful job as Prue and Rose did such a wonderful job as Paige it is a shame that for whatever reason we did not get to see a scene shared with them (that one with the back of Prue does not count). So this is my little remedy for that.
This is a happy ending for all of the sisters, it runs this story approximately from prequal days to the end of Season 3. I do intend to redeem Cole and probably Zankou who was arguably the best villain of the series-only just beating Gideon who was outstandingly bad. I wrote Paige and Zankou on a whim in my last story and I enjoyed it and I got a lot of good feedback from it so we are going down this road again. And also Prue/Andy were the love story that for me kicked off a love of Charmed so...he too gets to live.
Some episodes will be skipped over and if you are looking for a cannon compliment, word perfect, dialogue perfect, punctuation perfect story then let me tell you that is not me. I also do a lot of swearing in my stories so if you don't like that then turn away now at this first chapter.
Also again let me be plain I DESPISE the Elders. I hate them, I hate the hypocrisy, I hate the way they treated Leo after Gideon, I hate the way they were with the Avatars, I hate the fact that they expected the sisters to be on supernatural speed dial and I hated that they constantly butted in. Believe me in Season 5 I was actively cheering for the Titans. To me the Elders made themselves Titans. So if your looking for a story where they get a good rap then walk away now please.

Let There Be Light
An AU where Patty basically sticks her fingers up to the Elders and decides to keep Paige and raises her alongside Prue, Piper and Phoebe. The Power of Three becomes the Power of Four and nobody dies. AU Season 1-3, Piper/Leo, Phoebe/Cole, Prue/Andy, Paige/Zankou, Patty/Sam (mentioned).
Chapter 1-Meet You In The Meadow
In which Patty sticks two fingers up at the Elders. Sam pays the price somewhat and Penny is exasperated.
"Oh for fucks sake Patricia"
"Bad word Mom!"
"Patricia in the mood I am in sarcasm is not helpful. How…I mean…how could you let this happen?"
Patty opened her mouth but her mother had already snapped at her.
"I know how girl don't try it. I mean…I mean…Sam really? Sam?"
"What's wrong with Sam?"
"You mean other than the fact that he's your whitelighter? Well…I have to admit that he isn't the most good looking man in the bar."
"Compared to who? The Necromancer?"
"Patricia now is really not the time to bring that up" her mother snapped whipping down the pregnancy test. "What are you going to do?"
"I don't know"
"Well that's a fine time for that" her mother said putting down the pregnancy test.
"I don't know what to do I don't…I mean…it's legal now too—"
"Don't say that, I know it's legal now, I campaigned for abortion to be legal now my girl and I made my fair share of potions for witches in trouble but that doesn't mean it's right for you or right fot this family either. Now…do you want this baby?"
"Yes"
"Well that would be wonderful if you didn't already have the Power of Three upstairs"
"You know that there is latitude in that promise. You know it's not set in stone that it's my girls—"
"I know"
"I know that you think they are the Charmed Ones…"
"I know they are the Charmed Ones."
"Then why not have four?"
"The Power of Three my dear?"
"So what? It's not infallible is it? Say one of the girls has been hit by a bus tomorrow and then what? Then it all works out for the Elders doesn't it? The Power of Three Will Set Us Free? Well…the Power of Four will Just Be More."
Her mother snapped the pregnancy test back onto the counter.
"Are you drunk?"
"No. I wish"
"Patty—"
"Mom! I want this baby, I want this baby and I want Sam and that's my hard bottom line and maybe…maybe they won't let me have both or maybe The Elders will set the Cleaners on me or whatever but I know I want this baby and I know that I am not going to hide her away like her very exsistance is wrong. I am making a choice because then what? When will end? Mom you raised me to be a strong independent woman and a strong independent witch. This is how I do that."
Her mother watched her for a long second and then.
"Damn" she said finally. "Alright. I won't pretend to be pleased with your choices. I know Sam filled a void that Victor carved out of you I…I just…this is going to have consequences. I will stand by you of course and I will stand in front of those girls and this baby if I have to but I won't lie and say I am not scared for you my darling."
Patty Halliwell smiled at her mother full of brash confidence that she was not entirely sure that she felt.
"I know Mom. But hey look on the upside of all of this. Maybe the baby will be a boy."
Her mother scoffed and then poured herself a very generous helping of gin.
Retribution came swift, silent and deadly.
Sam disappeared. She didn't know what had happened but she knew that he had disappeared. Patty never doubted that he was out there thinking of her. Never doubted that they would see each other again but the pain that it caused her made her almost dizzy with grief. As the baby inside of her grew she found that she couldn't get out of bed. Her girls would curl up next to her Prue bringing in baby Phoebe and Piper trailing in with her hair in pigtails.
"Don't cry Mommy" Prue would say her dark eyes pained under her sharp fringe. "Baby will make it all better" she said patting her belly. Patty would smile her heart lifted and she would kiss her daughter and tell her that she was quite right—the baby would make it all better—but then she was tired and sad all over again. Sam had been excited about this baby, had promised to stand by her and now he was gone.
Her mother said nothing to this development of which Patty was endlessly relieved. Had her mother said something she found that she would have broken down completely. Here she was in her late thirties going through her fourth pregnancy, unmarried, no man around and this time it was taking it's toll. The mourning sickness was more intense, the dreams making her wake up at night mourning for someone who was just out of her reach. It made her want to scream. In her dreams she saw dark hair and dark eyes and orbing and a demon—or at the very least a very good looking man—with dark hair and dark eyes that spoke of a twisted kind of evil dancing in and out of her view.
Then she would wake up shaking and shivering and screaming and pulling her hair out and there was nothing that she could do to stop it even as her mother came into the room determined to get her to stop. It was half a daydream, half a nightmare and with no whitelighter to guide her and her daughters she was utterly alone.
Her mother never said anything, was always there to comfort her, helped her put the crib back up. But somehow it was like the joy of this pregnancy, the hope for a happy baby, a healthy baby, had been stolen from her. When the Elders had sent Sam away they'd taken a part of her too. And while Patty wanted to stop helping, to shun her magic and take her girls and make sure that the balance was never restored there was no way her mother would do such a thing. The girls still had their powers were destined to be the four most powerful witches in exsistance, were destined to bring the end of the dark magic that ruled the Underworld and maybe they would not represent the triquetra as three sisters but the legacy that was their Charmed heritage would be safe and secure.
For her mother that was all that mattered.
In the end it was the easiest labour that she had. Prue had been a two day job, Piper's heartrate had been up and down until Patty was sure she was going to be in trouble, Phoebe had been a c-section but her fourth baby, her last baby, her baby girl was born with a shock of dark hair in the middle of the bathroom one afternoon. Her mother had barely enough time to shoo the girls into the next room before she was holding her fourth granddaughter after an hour of labour, brace, brace, brace.
Her baby girl was perfect she thought looking at her. True to her half whitelighter side she'd arrived in a bundle of orbs a tuft of dark hair and bright eyes looking up quietly at her as if she'd been having a nice sleep and was surprised by this sudden entrance into the big shit show that was life.
"Well of course she's perfect" her mother had said. Personal gain be damned she had waved her hand and after washing them poured herself another generous slug of gin sitting on the closed lid on the toilet and taking another gulp.
"I know"
"All of our babies are perfect. Perfectly magical in every way. Oh not that I would have minded if she didn't have magic of course, a healthy baby is the most important thing my dear but I have to say that she has some magic is a weight of my mind. I didn't expect the orbing but then being half whitelighter I suppose it's a part of the half blood thing. Either way she seems adorable. Another granddaughter my dear. Well done."
She rolled her eyes wiping at her tears with one finger. Her mother always inspired some kind of emotion. For a second the two of them were alone in the bathroom and then.
"I should go and get the girls and tell them that they have a baby sister. And that you need to see them. Can you make it back to your bedroom do you think?"
In truth she didn't know if she could make it back to her room in one piece but she was a Halliwell and a Gordon and she had her pride and so with her mother's help she managed to hobble backwards to her bed.
She looked down at her baby girl as her mother left the room and that was when he appeared.
Sam.
"Sam!—"
"Hush" he said quietly. "I don't have time Patty…if they find out that I am here…they'll clip my wings. I don't…I need to be able to keep them so I can watch you both from afar"
She didn't know what to say to him. Sam eased around the bed and then sat down staring at the bundle in her arms.
"Oh God" he said reverently and she watched as his hands came out to just brush the wet curls on the top of her head. "Patty…she's…she's…perfect"
"Yes she is" Patty said smugly. "She's perfect." She looked down at her daughter and then she looked back up at the man she loved and she swallowed down her tears as she saw him stare at his daughter, trying desperately to remember her features.
"You have to go?"
"If they find me they will recycle me. They didn't even want to keep this little baby in our lives, wanted to send the Cleaners in and make her cease to exist. I struck a deal that I would stay away…a warning to all Whitelighters what would happen if they fall in love with their charges. They still don't know if this will mess up the Power of Three. Your daughters are still destined to be the Charmed Ones. The daughters of your body. I don't know what that means. I just…I had to see you" he said desperately looking up at her his eyes wet and wild.
"I just had to look at her and you and I to tell you that…my God Patty I just had to see you so you didn't know that I was—"
And suddenly she knew what he was trying to tell her. She cupped his chin splaying her fingers over his mouth so he didn't speak and she felt his lips against her fingers. Even now he was kissing every part of her he could reach.
"I know you have never abandoned us" she said quietly. "I know that your feelings for me will never die. Know that my feelings for you will never die either. And know that I believe that we will be together one day. I will tell our daughter what a good man her father is. What sacrifices that he made so that she could be happy"
Sam sobbed against her fingers and then he opened his eyes again and he crushed his mouth to hers once, hard and fast as if he was trying to learn her taste again. It was like those wild first nights when they had given in and he'd taken her so hard and fast as if he was waiting for the moment to be ripped from him and all she could do was grip onto him and let the lash of pleasure hit her again and again.
"Middle name Samantha?"
"Oh like hell woman"
She laughed and then he kissed her again and again. Once, twice, three times hard and fast and long and slow and then finally he pulled away breathing hard.
She pulled back as the baby fussed and she saw Sam bend down through her tears to run his thumb over their daughters trembling palm and press a kiss to her little wrinkled forehead.
As he bent over she whispered their daughters name.
He gripped her fingers once and then he was gone. Orbing away just as the door opened and her mother walked in Phoebe in her arms Piper and Prue bringing up the rear.
It was clear to her mother what had happened here. But only the softest sigh told her that she had known. Disapproval or approval Patty was not sure but before she could do anything she had one daughter on one arm, the other on her other side and Phoebe crawling over her legs to see the new baby.
"Girls" she said still feeling the imprint of Sam on her lips. "Meet your new baby sister. This is Paige. Paige Wilder Halliwell"
And there you go, let me know what you think and I will try and do my best to update as soon as I am able too.
Next Chapter-In which Paige has powers just like the rest of them and a difficult decision between mother and daughter is made. Victor makes his final appearance.
