Chapter 31
Tyler opened his eyes. He was sprayed with bits of stone, wood chips and something else. Andy was gone, Chucky was gone. And the entire left side of his body hurt like hell. He looked over and he saw why. Yep, that'll do it. His entire left body was cut and covered in ash. His sweatshirt sleeve was ripped to shreds and almost gone. And bloody burned skin coated his arms with smoke still rising off the burned flesh.
He hauled himself over the side. Paused a moment to catch his breath. Dragged himself to his feet. Tyler made it only a few steps before he crumpled, forced himself to his feet yet again, limped forward. He could see her now, collapsed on the floor, and the pain in his chest was suddenly so much worse than the burns and cuts on his skin.
He hardly knew what he was doing as he crouched beside her, wrapped his arms around her limp form, yanked her onto his lap. Kristen's skin was growing cold. Her barren eyes stared up at him, and he imagined them accusing him. You did this! This is your fault! He pulled her up and hugged her lifeless form tight. She was right, he did care about her, maybe he even loved her. He let her go and she suddenly started breathing. She blinked her eyes at him.
Kristen finished the thought. "Chucky's gone!"
Tyler helped her to her feet. "Andy, he's after Andy! We have to go, come on!" And they ran off, following Andy. Kristen was sure she knew, Tyler was back.
Andy heard the carnival music, the carnival was just ahead. He passed through the bright neon sign. There were so many people all going different ways. He heard the screaming and cheering of different people on the rides. Andy saw a tent that said "security" great! He ran to the tent and pulled it open. Scaring the guard half to death.
"Sir, sir please I need help!" He scrambled for words.
"Woah woah buddy what's wrong what's the matter?"
"I need the police tell them I'm with officer Emmet I-"
"Woah woah kid slow down. Okay I'll get the police." He grabbed the phone and waited for the operator. "Shit! We haven't set up the phones yet.
"The phone's a no go pal. I'll keep you safe." If only he could. "Here I know what'll cheer you up." He reached behind a trash bin. "I can tell you are a bit old for these but look what I found. He pulled up a dirty Good Guy doll. The doll smiled at Andy.
Tyler ran ahead of Kristen to the amusement park. He's gotta be in here. Tyler thought about everything. Andy had been so nice to him even though Tyler had been an asshole. Chucky had manipulated him and taken advantage of his anger. Then he cast him aside as soon as he refused to kill someone innocent.
He had accepted Kristen's forgiveness. He might even forgive himself one day. But those were things he could worry about later, right now only one thing mattered. Save my brother.
They mingled with the crowd and heard a girl laughing as she held a prize. "Thank you daddy, let's go on the supermoon!" The clickety clack of the carts going by was so loud. Then there was the sound of the carousel playing its magical fun music. Kids sequels of delight as they rode the magic horses into wonderland.
Andy came to a corner, behind a tree and hidden away from everyone. He peeked his head out and saw the bumper cars spitting sparks of electricity into the air. There were big kids here. Andy took another step when someone tapped his shoulder. Andy turned around, there were three older boys grinning at him.
"Hey kid whatcha got there?" The boys laughed, they were big mean looking kids. Probably in high school. The boy that spoke stepped close, he reached forward Chucky, rubbing his red hair.
"Hey this is one of those good guys. He's a good guy isn't it?" Andy nodded,
"Sure is," he said quickly.
The older boy got closer and noticed how the 'plastic' on its face looked a little more like real skin and its human looking eyes with veins and eyerises.
"Why's it so damn ugly? Doesn't look like all the others" He asked his buddies, "don't you think he's an ugly doll?"
The boy, his face looking even meaner, like he could punch Andy without even thinking about it came right up to him.
"I'll take him"
Andy didn't do anything, Chucky squeezed Andy's side hard. The boy grabbed Andy's collar.
"Ey didn't you hear what I said geek? Now why don't you just hand him over."
Chucky turned his head, he turned it right to the bully who was still grinning until he saw the doll's face change into one of anger looking directly at him.
"Why don't you fuck off." Chucky said.
The kid put his hand up and backed away, he bumped into his friends and they all turned and darted away.
Chucky looked around and laid his eyes on a demonic themed ride. The Devil's Lair.
"Perfect, in there." Chucky ordered. Andy looked out into the crowd and debated whether or not he should scream for help. Chucky's right hand pointed the small pistol to Andy's nose. "Don't even think about it!" Chucky snarled at him as if daring him to try. "Come on."
"Okay" Andy breathed.
Tyler looked around and saw a boy moving down the alleyways between the games. The boy held something. Chucky! He sprinted as fast as he could and smashed the doll away from the kid. It went flying to the ground.
"Leave him alone you asshole!" Tyler looked at the doll and then the blonde boy who ran to it.
"Hey!" He said as he bent down and picked it up. The boy's parents were just in front of him. "Watch where you're going, that's my boy dammit!" The man said.
"Sorry!" He spun around and found himself staring at another good guy doll, a girl held this one. He ran back to Kristen who stood in front of two kids fighting over a good guy, pulling its arms. "It's mine!" "No it's mine!"
Where are they coming from? Kristen pointed at the booth that said, GOOD GUYS, WE'RE BACK!
The booth was filled with Good Guys, some pinned to the wall, others in boxes on the shelves. A few in front near the huckster yelling at the crowd.
"Good Guys! Get your Good Guys here!"
Tyler and Kristen looked over the crowd to the devils lair ride. They saw Andy running up the stairs to a door. Employees only, it said. Then the door shut.
"In there!" Tyler tore off before Kristen could catch up, into the devil's lair.
