Chapter 36
1 week later
Andy got out of the car with Kristen and stared at the Hadison estate. Andy had to get a few stitches for the cuts on his face and arms and Kristen had to get five on her knee. Although they were beaten up, they had all survived and it was time to heal. It had been a few days of resting in the hospital and Kristen was even walking again, albeit with crutches.
Kristen couldn't really adopt him. She didn't have the money or the time while in college to look after him. So where would he go? Would he have to go back to the orphanage? He didn't want to go back there after everything.
"Kristen, why are we here?" Andy asked, after they got out.
She smiled at him. "Andy, you know Molly and James both loved you and Tyler very much right?"
"Yes, I know." Andy said.
"They always wanted a family but couldn't have one. They looked at you and Tyler as their own children. So they left you both something."
"What?"
"Andy, they put you in their will."
Andy's eyes were wide with shock and he shook his head in disbelief. "But…I was only there for a week!"
"Like I said, they truly loved you both. Since Tyler is unfortunately not here anymore, you are the sole heir to everything, including their estate."
"I c-can't…I don't deserve it," Andy shook his head as he spoke. "I couldn't protect them! I couldn't protect Tyler from Chucky. They died because of me!"
"No Andy, they did not die because of you." Kristen got on one knee and looked Andy in the eye. "They died because of Chucky, not you. I see that now, you were right, you were right all along. And I promise you that they were the last people he will ever kill."
Andy couldn't help but smile at that. She really believed me, of course she does, she was there but still… I'm really not alone.
He felt Kristen softly touch his shoulder. She smiled at him.
"Andy, I have one more surprise for you." One more surprise what does… The front door to the house opened and he looked at the figure in the doorway. Before him Karen Barclay stood and covered her mouth when she saw him, tears welled up in her eyes.
"Andy! Oh, Andy!"
Before Andy knew it his eyes were red and his voice broke. "M-Mom!" He shouted as he raced toward her.
He threw down his bag and jumped into her arms like he was still six years old. The weight of his body nearly pulled her down but he caught himself as he held onto her. His mom embraced him tightly and Andy began to cry. He didn't ever think his nightmare would ever be over; and he never dreamed he'd ever see his mom again.
"Oh Andy, honey, I'm so proud of you," Karen said, pushing his bangs back from his face. "I heard you were so brave and you finally defeated that horrible doll,"
Andy nodded fast as for the first time in forever, Karen could actually get a good look at his face. "You're so grown." She held his face, "And you're so handsome."
"I missed you mom! I never thought I'd see you again! And I thought the courts wouldn't let you be with me!" Andy said, wiping at his eyes.
"Everything's cleared up now, honey," she said, wiping at his eyes. "After Kristen and several people who were at the carnival backed you up, the courts overruled my sentence and my guardianship of you has been restored. I wouldn't have known where you were though if I hadn't gotten a call from Kristen." Andy looked at Kristen and gave her the biggest smile he could muster as his way of saying thank you.
Andy smiled and hugged his mom tightly. "I can't believe this is really happening!"
Kristen smiled and approached them. "Well, it is. And there's one more surprise."
Andy looked up at her. "Really? What?" he asked in excitement.
Karen smiled at Kristen. "Well, you and I are going to be living here together in this lovely home that the Hadisons left for you. You can start up school again and we will finally be a family again."
Andy kept crying tears of pure joy as Karen went on. "The paperworks all done and everything!" Karen said, laughing as Andy jumped into her embrace.
"Not only that, but I plan on visiting you during my holidays and breaks, so you better have time for me." Kristen said, winking.
"I will, I will!" Andy exclaimed as he ran toward Kristen.
She laughed as he ran into her arms. Hugging him tightly, she bent down, kissed his forehead, and Kristen smiled
"I told you everything would work out ok. Now, I have to go back to the orphanage but promise me we can talk every weekend until I have another break."
"Yes, definitely!" Andy exclaimed, hugging her again.
"I'll miss you, Andy. But I'm just a phone call away."
Kristen gave him one more hug before she went on their way. Andy was left with his mom and the two of them walked into the house and into their new life together.
They sat on the back porch in the beautiful autumn evening together. Drinking hot chocolate and relishing in the fact that the nightmare was over. They had both survived and had been reunited.
"I'm just so grateful you had people who helped you when I was away."
Andy smiled and leaned his head on her shoulder. "I'm grateful for that too."
