Chapter 7
Night of the Prom
After finding out that the ghost that he was hunting down was Libby's girlfriend the whole time, Ollie started to feel guilty for how she treated Molly. Despite all he had done, everyone assured him that they forgave him. At least, everyone except for Scratch. Ollie couldn't really blame him though. After all, Scratch seemed to be really close to Molly, especially since they had known each other since Molly moved to Brighton. Deep down, Ollie hoped that Scratch could forgive him someday.
One day, Ollie decided to have his first video chat with the rest of his friends. Both, Libby and Andrea appeared on his video screen as they both happily greeted him.
"Hey, Ollie! Can you see us?" Libby asked.
"Yeah, I can see you!" Ollie replied. "How have you two been?"
"I've been doing great! Molly and I have been talking, and we decided that even though she is a ghost, we should still go to the school dance together later this week." Libby explained.
At that moment, Andrea let out an excited gasp. "You and Molly are going to be each other's date at the school dance? That is so adorable!"
"There is a school dance going on this week?" Ollie asked, surprised. "I had no idea."
Andrea nodded. "Of course. I would have asked my crush, Alina to go with me, but we go to different schools." Andrea sighed before she thought of an idea. "Hey, why don't we all go to the dance together as friends?"
"That sounds like a good idea!" Libby agreed. "How about you, Ollie? Would you like to come with us?"
"R-Really?" Ollie asked in surprise. "You want me to come with you even after all the trouble I caused?"
"Ollie, all of that is in the past! We all forgive you for what happened!" Libby assured.
"Even Scratch?"
Thinking back to what happened that day, Libby remembered how furious Scratch was with Ollie. From what Molly told her, Scratch was still pretty angry at Ollie.
"Okay, maybe not Scratch, but don't worry! I'm sure that he would forgive you soon!" Libby replied. "Do you still want to come with us?"
"Why not? It could be fun!" Ollie agreed.
"Great! Then it's settled! We'll all meet in front of the school on Friday night!" Andrea exclaimed, excited for the dance.
Throughout the week, Molly and her friends made their preparations for the school dance. While Libby was finding a dress to wear for the dance, Molly was practicing her dancing, despite not having any legs to dance with.
Every day, Molly worked hard to prepare for the prom until the night of the dance arrived. Molly waited for Libby to arrive, nervous about her date. It was at that moment when Scratch noticed how nervous Molly was, so he floated over towards her to comfort her.
"So, you must be excited about your date with Libby!" Scratch guessed.
Molly nodded in response. "I am, but I'm still nervous. Do you think I should have looked for a dress to wear?"
With an amused grin, Scratch replied, "I don't think they sell dresses for ghosts in Brighton, Moll! Look, you'll be fine! You're Molly McGee! I know that you can show Libby a good time!"
Soon, Molly smiled in response. "Thanks, Scratch! I really appreciate it!"
It wasn't long before a knock at the door could be heard. That was when Molly started to get nervous once more since she knew that it was Libby. At that moment, Sharon made her way to the door and opened it to reveal that it was Libby, who was wearing her same attire from her Bat Miztvah.
"Hello, Libby!" Sharon happily greeted.
"Hi, Mrs. McGee! Is Molly here?" Libby asked.
"Of course! She has been waiting for you all day! Come on in!" Sharon moved to the side to let Libby in.
As Libby entered the house, Molly shyly looked away. If she wasn't a ghost her face would be blushing from how nervous she was.
"Well, don't just float there! Libby isn't going to be waiting all day!" Darryl told his sister.
"R-Right!" Molly soon floated towards Libby and greeted her with a smile. "You look beautiful tonight, Libby!"
With a blush, Libby replied, "Thanks, Molly! You look beautiful too!"
Happy that his daughter is going to her first prom, Pete started to get emotional. "I'm so proud of you Molly! You are growing of so fast!" Pete said before breaking down into tears.
"Perhaps I should be the one to drive them to the dance." Sharon suggested, not feeling comfortable with her husband driving them in his emotional state.
While Darryl stayed home with his dad, Molly, Libby, and Scratch followed Sharon to the car, where she drove them to the school. Both, Molly and Libby remained silent before Molly awkwardly scooted closer towards Libby and held her hand. Libby looked to the side surprised, but didn't really mind. With a smile, Libby held on to Molly's hand throughout the car ride.
It wasn't long before Sharon drove everyone to the school. Here, Molly and Libby found Ollie and Andrea waiting for them outside. Scratch took one look at Ollie before he glared at him, still angry at the ghost hunter for nearly taking Molly away from him. Once the car parked in front of the school, Molly and Libby stepped out before greeting their friends.
"Hey, guys!" Molly greeted Andrea and Ollie.
"Molly! Libby! We are so glad that you can make it!" Andrea exclaimed. "After all, this dance wouldn't be as fun without Brighton's cutest couple!"
Libby blushed. "It's good to see you too, Andrea! And you too, Ollie!" Libby brought her attention to Ollie.
Upon noticing Ollie for the first time, Sharon decided to introduce herself. "Oh, you must be Ollie! Molly told me about you!"
It was at that moment when Ollie gave a nervous gulp. After what he did to her, he wouldn't be surprised that Molly told her mom about how he tried to hunt her down.
"Sh-She did?" Ollie stuttered.
Sharon nodded. "Molly told me how much of a good friend you are to Libby! You always keep her safe and protect her no matter what! I'm sorry to disappoint you though, but Libby is already taken!" Sharon joked before giving a wink towards Molly, who facepalmed in embarrassment.
"Mom, please!"
Despite the embarrassment he felt as well, Ollie still managed a smile, relieved that Molly's family had no idea that he hunted her.
"Well, it was nice meeting you, Mrs. McGee!" said Ollie.
"And you as well, Ollie!" Sharon replied before turning to Molly and Libby. "Molly! Libby! I will be back to pick you two up in a few hours! Have fun, you two!"
Once Sharon drove away, Molly and her friends decided to head inside the school. Here, they found the students in the gym, all of them having a fun time. They soon joined in on the school dance as well while Scratch stayed behind to eat as much food as he could.
Throughout the night, all of the students danced with each other. At least, everyone except for Ollie, who still felt guilty for what he did to Molly. He wanted nothing more than to make up with Scratch so that he could start over with everyone. Andrea noticed how silent Ollie was, so she sat next to him before she tried to cheer him up.
"So, Scratch still won't talk to you?" Andrea asked.
Ollie shook his head. "After what I did to Molly, I can't really blame him. I have been really awful to her, haven't I?"
"I have been pretty awful to Molly when I first met her as well! Don't forget, I started off as Molly's enemy too! If Molly could forgive us, there is no reason Scratch can't!" Andrea assured.
With a smile, Ollie replied, "You know what? You're right! Thanks, Andrea! I'll see if I can find Scratch!"
It was at that moment when Ollie began to search for Scratch. He found the ghost near the punchbowl as he chugged all of the bowl's contents. Once Scratch noticed Ollie, he stopped drinking the punch before glaring at Ollie.
"Oh, it's you. What do you want?" Scratch asked, not in the mood to talk to Ollie.
"Listen, I know that you are still mad at me, but I just want to apologize for everything." Ollie explained. "Even if I was only trying to keep Libby safe, I should have listened to Molly when she was trying to tell me that she was actually good."
"Yes, you should have." Scratch avoided eye contact with Ollie. "Look, I know that you were only trying to protect Libby, but I want Molly to be safe too! I already had to watch her die once! I can't lose her again because she is like family to me."
Every word Scratch said only made Ollie feel more and more guilty. After all the times he spent trying to catch Molly, Ollie never realized that Molly had loved ones who would have been upset if he took her away from them. Seeing that there was no point in asking for forgiveness, Ollie decided to leave Scratch alone.
"I understand why you would be upset with me. I nearly hurt someone you care about. All I can say is I'm sorry, and thanks for at least listening to me." Ollie turned before he sadly walked away.
Scratch took one look at Ollie before letting out an annoyed sigh. Deep down, Scratch knew that he couldn't stay mad at Ollie forever. After all, that's not what Molly would have wanted.
"Wait." Scratch called out for Ollie. "I suppose I can forgive you this one time for Molly's sake."
Ollie perked up at what Scratch said. "Really? Thanks for the second chance Scratch!" Ollie soon hugged Scratch, much to his annoyance.
"Please don't make me regret my decision." Scratch sighed as Ollie started to remind him more of Molly everyday.
Throughout the rest of the night, Scratch started to hang out with Ollie and Andrea, much to the surprise of Molly. Happy that her friends were actually getting to know each other better, Molly excitedly floated over towards her friends.
"Are you guys actually hanging out with each other?" Molly squealed.
"Actually, yes! Scratch and I have been talking and I apologized for everything." Ollie explained.
"And to stop you from bothering me about it. I decided to forgive him this one time and as much as I hate to admit it, I suppose Ollie is a nice guy once you get to know him." Scratch admitted.
"I'm glad that you two are now getting along!" Andrea smiled before bringing her attention to Molly and Libby. "So are you two enjoying the dance so far?"
Libby nodded. "We are! Molly and I have been looking forward to having a slow dance with each other all night! I just hope that it goes well."
"Don't worry, Libby. I know that we would both do great!" Molly assured her girlfriend.
As if on cue, romantic music began to fill the room. It was at that moment when all of the students began to dance with one another. The two girlfriends shyly looked away from each other as Scratch, Andrea, and Ollie smiled at their friends, knowing exactly what they were thinking.
"Guess it's time for you two to have your perfect night together." Ollie said.
At that moment, Libby reached her hand out towards her girlfriend, ready for their dance together.
"A dance, my lady?" Libby talked in the same fancy accent she spoke in when they played Puppy Prom.
"Oh, certainly!" Molly reached out to hold Libby's hand.
The two girlfriends made their way to the middle of the dance floor, where they started to waltz with each other. As they happily danced in each others arms, most of the students stared at Libby in confusion. Since Molly was invisible to them, all they saw was Libby dancing by herself. Despite how weirded out the students were, Molly and Libby didn't care because they were happy to finally have their first prom together.
This ended up being an amazing night for everyone. Not only had Molly and Libby finally got their wonderful prom dance like they wanted, but Andrea had made up with Molly and Libby, and Ollie and Scratch are now on good terms with one another. Once the dance came to an end, Molly and her friends returned to their homes as they all knew that this was a new beginning for their friendship.
