A furry way to say it (one shot)
Wouldn't it be amazing to know exactly how she feels…?
A wish… a prayer… an unplanned spell done under her sleep, it's what brought to their lives a…
"A tail! Alex! Look! Look! I got a tail!"
Kara says, looking so excited and happy about the unexpected, new attachment to her body. A very golden, fluffy fur tail is the first thing she noticed differently this morning when she woke up. Like the one of a golden retriever, the tail is big and fluffy, it compels you to touch it and maybe that's the reason why Kara cannot stop running in circles, trying to catch her own tail.
"It's so fluffy! Alex!"
"Kara, I can see that but, please stop! You're making me dizzy!"
The blonde stops turning in circles at high speed and sadly pouts, acting like a scolded little puppy. And, as a mirror of her own emotions, the tail stops happily wagging and just drops to the floor. Alex deeply sighs, she didn't want to upset the blonde but, contrary to Kara, Alex doesn't look amused with this new development. What caused it? Who caused it? And, more importantly, why? Those are the questions Alex plans to solve as soon as they make it to the tower. She sends an S.O.S to the rest of the team and when they make it to the tower, Brainy and Dreamer were already there.
The moment they arrive at the Tower, Alex expects some kind of urgency from the rest of the team. And, she gets it just not in the way she wanted…
"Awww! You look so cute! I need pictures! Like, right now!"
Nia rushes to take pictures, videos of the Girl of Steel's tail, and Kara blushes and looks down, slowly wagging her tail like a shy puppy. Alex rolls her eyes, she hopes at least Brainy will take this more seriously but…
"Now, you literally look like a puppy, can I take some pictures, too? You look extremely cute!"
Kara nods and even her tail waves excited about keeping this moment recorded in a picture, but again, acting like a kill-joy, Alex puts a stop to this nonsense.
"All of you, stop this right now!"
"But, Alex…"
Alex ignores the sad pout of the entire team and shuts down the cute photographic session. The big sister really believes they should be more concerned about how and why this happened than taking pictures of it! And, Alex makes it very clear that the top priority is to find out how Kara got a tail, not to have fun with it. Everyone looks gloomy about it, especially Kara, her tail falling to the ground and slowly wagging. It was sad. More than ever, Kara looked like a kicked puppy. Especially when she has no explanation to share when Alex starts her interrogation.
"C'mon, Kara! You must have touched or ate something that caused this! REMEMBER!'
"I swear Alex, I did nothing out of my daily routine!"
Alex looks upset, and her irritation upsets Kara even more till her super hearing hears something, or to be more precise, someone. Soon, the kicked puppy attitude is forgotten and the furry tail raises with a big, wide wag. Kara looks super happy, no one understands why she looks like a happy puppy who will get its tummy rub. Why? No one knows till they realize someone is coming up. The Elevator stops and the tail wags faster as Kara's favorite person has arrived.
"LENA! You're here! I'm so happy to see you!"
Indeed, she's soooo excited to see the raven-haired woman, it makes Lena smile. The dear Luthor should be already used to Kara's warm welcome and yet, each time, she looks surprised by the high excitement of the blonde. After everything she has done, even after all the hurt she caused, Kara makes her feel welcome and more than that, she makes her feel loved, so loved. And, talking about love, something feels especially lovely today around the blonde, Lena wasn't sure what it was till something fluffy pops up behind Kara…
"OMG! Kara, what is that?! It's a… TAIL?! How… why do you've a tail and why is it wagging like crazy?!"
Kara doesn't know what to say. Alex asks to make it stop, but it's easier to say it than to do it, especially when the tail responds to the presence of the beautiful woman who's staring at it with fascination.
"Lena, do you find it cute?!"
Kara asks, and the dear Luthor replies…
"Yeah, sure…"
Lena, finding the tail cute, makes it wag even faster, and everybody says a big 'Ahh' as they finally realize the tail is reacting to Lena.
It's because of Lena that the tail is held up like a flag, wagging faster than the Flash. They say a puppy always wags its tail when greeted by his owner and who other than, Lena Luthor, to be the owner of Kara's heart. If just the genius woman could see it…
From the moment they met to their fall out and reconciliation. More than once, Kara has shown how much she cares about Lena. How much she loves to be with Lena and how important it is to have this woman in her life. Kara has lost so much in her life. Her planet, her parents, even boyfriends and yet, nothing ever hurt as much as losing Lena. Their time apart, the angst they lived during their fall out, it has been, till this day, Kara's worst nightmare.
It was the same for Lena, she will not admit it, but she has never cried so much in her life because of someone. And, the idea of losing each other again, it's the main reason why these two try to be discreet about their mutual feelings. But, somehow, that seems impossible today, especially now that Kara cannot control her tail as it takes on a life of its own when Lena gets closer.
"OMG! Kara!"
Lena squeals with surprise, with a lot of blush when the tail grabs her from the hip and glues her to the blonde. Kara holds Lena in her arms, stabilizing them so they don't fall. They end up standing face to face, their noses are so close, they touch, both women blush a lot, staring at each other in the eyes, taking a glimpse of their appetizing lips.
They could kiss if they wanted to, and when that idea runs around in Kara's head, the tail wags in excitement. Lena contemplates the idea of kissing Kara too, but the whole idea is too much to handle for the dear Luthor, so Lena tries to step back, to get some distance, she cannot make that step, she has to step away from the temptation to kiss the blonde but, each time she tries to step back, the tail just brings her back where she was. Glued to Kara.
"Oh, in the name of God!"
Alex rolls her eyes, she cannot look at this. Contrary to the rest of the super friends, Alex doesn't enjoy seeing her little sister enthralled with the dear Luthor. And, it's not because she doesn't like Lena. She actually likes Lena. She would be the 1st one to approve a relationship between these two. What Alex doesn't like and cannot handle anymore, it's to watch how these two idiots are so in love with each other and being so oblivious about it. For a reason no one understands, the brilliant Luthor is blind to notice how much joy she brings to Kara's heart. Even now when a very fluffy tail doesn't stop to wag from right to left, just because of her. The young Luthor seems oblivious to read the room. It's painful to watch.
Anyway, Alex had enough of this, so once again she has to play the role of joy killer when she breaks them apart and reprimands the tail. Kara looks like a kicked puppy once again.
They get back to business and Lena is the first one asking questions…
"How did you get this, darling?"
The tail waves faster when Lena calls Kara, darling. Somehow, Kara wants to purr when the adorable nickname is used, but she's able to keep it together and answer the question like a normal person.
"I don't know. I just woke up and it was there…"
Lena nods, she finds it fascinating and she wants to touch it, her hand gets closer and closer, the tail wags faster as she gets closer to touch it till Lena takes her hand back. Kara and the tail look disappointed. And then, Lena looks at Kara in the eyes and asks…
"Can I touch it?"
Kara nods, non-stop, with a blush in her cheeks. The thought of Lena, petting her tail, makes her heartbeat go faster. The tail wags faster with excitement too.
Lena wasn't planning to pet it per se, she wants to examine it as the scientist she's but, when Lena's hand finally touches the fluffy tail, it's fireworks for both of them. The tail is so fluffy and shiny and has a special glow now that Lena touches. It's like the tail could respond to Lena's touch. A general 'Awww' is said by the others when Kara gets hearts in her eyes, watching Lena caressing her tail.
The dizzy, happy face Kara is showing, it says more than a thousand words. The blonde and the tail were enjoying every second of Lena's soft caresses and once again, Alex rolled her eyes, this was too much cuteness for her to handle. Alex decides to take a break outside, in the balcony of the tower because she cannot look at these two another second.
A few minutes later, Alex comes back and looks shocked when she finds them in the same extremely cute scene she left them.
"Ok, that's it! Lena, step away from that tail! Nia! Stop taking pictures of this and try to use your powers to see what happened. Brainy and me, we will try to take some samples of the tail and see if we get some answers. You can help too, Lena…"
Once again, Alex has to act as the voice of reason even, it might be a joy killer for some members of the team.
"You're a very mean boss, Alex! I'll not give you 5 stars in the annual evaluation this time!"
Nia says out loud her complaint and Alex rolls her eyes, this day couldn't get worse… she was wrong…
"Kara… c'mon. Do not make this more difficult, come here!"
Like a puppy who refuses to go to the vet, the blonde dodges every attempt Alex makes to catch her & her tail. Kara has never liked to be examined and to be honest, she doesn't love the idea of letting Alex get samples of her tail. Alex no longer has the patience for this and before the vein in her front-head explodes, Lena decides to intervene.
"Darling, come here, com'on!"
The tail tucked between Kara's legs, gets slightly raised with a shy wag when Lena pats the empty side beside her, on the sofa she's sitting on. Kara slowly gets closer to the dear Luthor, and the tail finally looks relaxed with little wags when Lena caresses Kara's head to calm her down. Lena distracts Kara with caresses while Alex and Brainy get the samples they need.
"Good girl…"
Lena says, and Kara smiles. It makes Alex roll her eyes once again. Alex should be grateful for the help, but she looks more annoyed than ever, especially when Lena praises the blonde with a pat on the head and gives her a chocolate as a treat when they are finally able to get some samples from the furry tail.
"You see, darling, it didn't hurt…"
Kara nods, she opens her mouth and Lena chuckles when she feeds her with another chocolate. It's not a surprise to see how Lena's bag is full with Kara's favorite sweets. But, it's a surprise to see the dear Luthor, praising the blonde like if she was a dog. Alex had enough of this silly behavior.
"Lena, stop treating her like a puppy!"
"I don't know what you're talking about, Alex…"
Again with this oblivious of their behavior! Alex rolls her eyes and decides to drop it and just get to work with the samples. They took some fur from the tail. It didn't hurt when Alex took it, but nevertheless, Kara acts like a hurt puppy just so she can get more sweets and caresses from the dear Luthor.
"It's okay, darling, I'm here…"
Lena strokes Kara's hair and the tail slowly moves as a sign of contentment. Alex would love a time-out from all of this, but her wish is far to be granted when Kara finds silly uses for her tail while they wait for the results of the tests.
"Lena, look! Look! Look! If I put my tail above my lips, it looks like I've a mustache!"
The dear Luthor chuckles, and Alex wonders what she did wrong in her life to deserve this punishment. The silliness continues and after hours of research and tests. They find no scientific explanation for this tail. The only thing they found is that the tail is harmless.
"Does that mean I can keep it?"
"No, Kara! You cannot keep your tail!"
"But, but, but… it's so fluffy, Alex!"
How can Kara look so happy about this development? Alex wonders, the enthusiasm in Kara is not something she can deal with, right now. She can already feel a huge headache because of this. So, Alex calls it off for the day. She hopes that a night of good sleep will make her feel better the next day. It doesn't as the next day, in the early morning, she finds her dear little sister, waiting in front of the elevator, wagging her tail with anticipation like a loyal puppy who's waiting for his master to arrive. The tail starts to wave like crazy once Lena gets out of the elevator.
"OMG! I'll not be able to watch this every day!"
Alex cannot deal with a puppy Kara, but Lena can. If the blonde was cute, now with a tail she's extremely cuter. And, the dear Luthor cannot get enough of it.
"Hi, darling…"
Lena smiles big when the first thing she sees is Kara and her tail, waiting for her and happily waving from right to left. She doesn't want to make a big deal about it but it feels good and more important than that, she finally starts to notice how special she's for the blonde.
"It's a sunny day, what about we go for a walk in the park, darling?"
Lena proposes to take a break and go out. Kara bursts of extreme energy like a puppy which gets the zoomies. And, once in the park, the raven-haired woman stares at Kara enjoying herself out in the open, it makes her smile and also, it makes Lena get to the conclusion that, while the tail cannot speak, it's a very good communication device.
Lena's new theory is that the tail is an insight into Kara's emotions. Lena is almost sure of it. And more than that, she's sure that the tail is trying to tell her something. She just needs to figure out what it is. And, that's why, Lena's new project is to decrypt the tail's language. Lena makes a journal, and after a week of observation, she starts to understand the tail better.
Her notes in her journal match Kara's emotions with the tail's behavior:
- Slightly raised tail with a big, wide wag = Kara is super happy! Happy to see you and follow you around
- Straight up tail: Kara is on high alert. Analyzing the situation closely
- Stiff, tall tail, possibly arched over back with quick wags: It means you need to back off, now, Kara's showing you she's not happy and she's ready to defend what she's trying to protect. You've been warned.
Lena chuckles when she reads her last entry, recalling how the tail reacted when Kara was trying to protect her during their last mission. It was cute, and more than that, it was a clear declaration of affection and probably even love? Lena blushes a lot when she thinks about the possibility of being loved by Kara as more than a friend. She tries to shake the silly idea out of her head, but when she does that, the voice of her spell speaks to her and it says…

Lena finally puts two and two together and she gasps when she realizes that…
"OMG! It's my fault! I did this!"
Once again, it's her fault, Lena is ashamed and angry with herself as once again, she messed it up. And, the worst part is that she has no idea how to undo her spell. Anyway, regardless of how she will fix this, Kara must know. She needs to tell her it's her fault and that's Lena's intention when she knocks at Kara's door that night.
Lena's heart is beating fast, she's afraid of disappointing the blonde once again and causing a gap in their fragile relationship. If this breaks the repaired bridge between the two of them, Lena will have to accept it, it's what she says to herself. But, when the door finally opens and stares at Kara with so much love, she's unable to say a word. She cannot lose her again, it's what her mind and heart tell her.
And when she finally finds her voice again, she realizes she's already settled down, on Kara's sofa, in front of the tv and a big bowl of spaghetti bolognese.
"We cannot watch Lady and the Tramp without this!"
Kara beams with joy when she settles at her side, putting in play the movie and digging on the delicious Italian dish. Lena stares at her, she has something to say and yet, she wants to prolong this moment as much as she can, so she stays silent and decides to have dinner with the blonde, after all, this might be the last time.
The blonde holds her tail, trying it to calm her down while she apologizes for her tail's behavior and it's at that moment that Lena realizes she's the one who should apologize. She softly pets the tail as she reveals the reason for her visit. The tail hangs down, it shows how unsure Kara feels about the news. Some reassurance would be good and yet, Lena has no way to undo what she did, the only thing she can say, it's the main reason that caused this mess.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Lena!"
The blonde apologizes for her tail's behavior and it's at that moment that Lena realizes she's the one who should apologize. She softly pets the tail as she reveals the reason for her visit. The tail hangs down, it shows how unsure Kara feels about the news. Some reassurance would be good and yet, Lena has no way to undo what she did, the only thing she can say, it's the main reason that caused this mess.
"I'm very sorry, Kara. I cannot control my magic and I don't know how this happened, really. All I wished that night, it was a way to know how you feel about me because I… I… I love you, Kara, I'm in love with you"
Lena expects many reactions from the blonde. Shock. Répulsion. Any kind of bad reaction. She prepares her heart for the worst when the tail starts wagging like crazy, brushing in front of Lena's face once again, making her laugh. Lena gets the exact opposite reaction to what she was expecting and if the tail's excitement is not enough to make it clear, Kara grabs a spaghetti from tip to toe, putting one end in her mouth and offering the other end to Lena.
She wants me to put it in my mouth, why? Lena wonders, she has no idea what the blonde pretends till her eyes look towards the tv and then, she watches the scene of the Lady & the Tramp that Kara is trying to replicate.
"Oh…"
Lena blushes a lot and without hesitation she takes the other end of the spaghetti and starts sucking in with a wide smile. Just like in the movie, the gap between the two lovebirds decreases little by little till their lips meet. They happily hum under the tender kiss and it's at this moment that Lena finally understands what the tail was trying to tell her: Kara is in love with her too.
It feels amazing to finally know how Kara feels. Her wish was granted, and with it, the spell ends. The tail vanishes, sadly for everyone, especially Kara…
"Darling, please, do not look so sad…"
Lena tries to comfort the blonde, they are in the tower with the rest of the group, updating them on the last events of the previous night and while Kara's happy about their love confession, one part of her really misses the fluffy tail. And, talking about tails, Nia says out something that might light up Kara's mood….
"Well, maybe next time, it could be Lena who gets a tail. I can only imagine how you would look with a tail, Lena. Like a cat tail?"
Lena frowns, she doesn't understand the relevance of Nia's comment till she sees Kara's reaction and how her head is overheating and probably suffering a massive short circuit. The whole idea of Lena, wearing a cat tail, does something into Kara's brain that makes Lena blush a lot, just imagining whatever Kara might be thinking. Nia looks very thrilled with what she might have put in motion while Alex once again, wonders what did she do wrong to deserve this kind of punishment. Really! No one needs to know about Kara's kinkies! And, before Lena could even formulate any kind of spell in her mind, Alex clearly forbade it…
"Do not ever think about it, Lena! I ban any use of magic for your cosplay's fantasies!"
Her facial grimacing shows how unhappy Lena is with the order. It's her magic, and she should be able to do whatever she wants with it! Especially if that might make Kara extremely happy.
It makes Alex roll her eyes and it forces her to give them an actual puppy. It's her furry way to say she's happy for them, being together, and please stop growing tails to each other.
"Let's call him Krypto! Lena"
Lena smiles and nods, she stays in silence, watching how Kara plays along with their new puppy. Even without a tail, Kara still behaves like a puppy from time to time. And, each time it happens, it makes Alex roll her eyes and it makes Lena remember the furry way she found out, this dear blonde belongs to her.
