Here is Chapter 4 of Fall of the Seraphim. I hope you like it , and soon we will dive into the interesting parts of the story.
When nighttime arrived in heaven, only few people were awake. One of these people was Emily, waiting in the courtroom for Michael to arrive with the necessary equipment to contact Charlie. She turned around when she heard the door open.
"Glad you are already here; we don't have much time" Michael said urgently.
"What is this?" Emily asked while eying the Lantern that Michael brought with him.
"This is the Contraption that will let you communicate with Charlie; it is the Messengers Lamp."
The lamp glowed dimly, but not in a singular color; instead, it seemed to switch between a brilliant white, a dim blue and specs of red. Otherwise, it looked just like an old oil lantern.
"Wait you want to tell me that you stole Gabriel's Lantern? How could you do this, you might get punished for this!"
"Don't be silly I did not steal it, I called in a favor from Gabriel to let me contact someone in hell. Last time, Samael contacted him through this lamp, and he went ahead and told me."
"Then why do we have to hurry?" Emily asked confused.
"From what I could tell, Sera wants to set a few guards on you, and while it is not forbidden to use this lantern, they might report back that you actively went against her wishes and contacted hell."
Emily could not believe how controlling Sera could be. First, she wants her to stop thinking about all the people angels kill in hell, then she threatens her that if she continues to disobey her, she might end up just like Lucifer. Emily just had enough of this Sera be damned. She will do what is right instead of what is easy.
Sera might have said that the extermination was needed, but there was no way that God intended for so many human souls to perish, just because they have sinned. Yes, they might be bad, or rather, have been bad when they were alive, but she is sure that people can change even after death.
"Let me do it please. Let me contact Charlie and help her save her hotel." Emily said with such a passion, that even Michael was surprised.
He put the lantern on the floor. "To activate the Lantern, you must speak the name of the person you want to contact, as well as the plane in which they reside. When the lantern finds the right person, you will feel as being pulled into the lantern. Do not worry about that part it is the way Gabriel communicated with the people back in the old days."
Emily took a deep breath before opening her eyes filled with determination. "Charlie Morningstar of Hell" she said with conviction.
The Lantern shone with a crimson glow, when Emily felt as if her consciousness was leaving her body and enter the lantern. It felt like she was falling for an eternity, before softly landing in room which looked not much different from hers.
There were a few key differences, like for example in one corner was a giant vase with a snake coiling around it, a few twigs sprouting out the top of it. In the middle of the room, there was a four-poster king sized bed with red drapes around it. In front of the bad was a rather large chest, which seemed to have teeth and is ready to snap at anyone who is not the owner of its contents.
Emily would have looked around further, if not for the fact that 2 small goat-like flying demons raced at her trying to impale her. She yelped in surprise and shut her eyes, waiting for the impact, but she never felt it. When she opened her eyes, she realized that the goats passed through her, as if she was mist.
"Razzle, Dazzle stop it!" came a firm voice from the bed, a voice which Emily grew to like. Charlie.
Charlie was currently wrapped up in a blanket, and she looked like she had been crying a lot recently. But what broke Emilys heart, was the look in her eyes. During their day in heaven, they shone with passion and determination, but now they were just filled with sorrow and sadness.
"Charlie!" Emily ran for Charlie on the bed and tried to hug her, but she passed right through her. This was the moment that this was just a projection of her body, but it would not matter.
Charlie was surprised to see Emily standing in her room, but she was thankful that the Seraphim was here. Since the trial, and the reveal of Vaggies past as an exterminator, they have barely spoken a word. It was so bad as of right now, that Vaggie was currently sleeping in one of the unused bedrooms, which broke Charlie's heart even further.
"Emily? What are you doing here?" Charlie asked.
"I wanted to contact you and inform you of the changes up here in heaven" Emily answered.
"Wait changes? Do you want to tell me that you managed to convince Sera to try out the Hotel?" Charlie asked hopefully.
"Sadly not, but as we speak, the exterminators are preparing to strike the hotel, and only the hotel."
Charlie was shocked. To think Adam would be so petty and gruesome, to send an entire army, just to destroy one building with 7 people living in it was ridiculous.
"Say Emily, I know this might be personal to ask, but is there any way to defeat an Angel?" Charlie asked.
Emily thought for a second before replying "Well, I am not a hundred percent sure about all Exterminators, but Adam for example, is still a human soul. This would mean that he is vulnerable to Angelic steel, the same Exterminators use to kill sinners."
This was it! Charlie now knew a weakness to use against the angels. She now only must figure out where to get Angelic steel in hell. Then it hit her; one of the Overlords, Carmilla Carmine, was a weapons dealer, and she deals exclusively in Angelic Steel.
"Thank you sooo much Emily, you helped me loads!" Charlie smiled brightly.
"Now since this whole thing is cleared, would you like to tell me why you are so depressed?" Emily asked.
"It is nothing much, it's just... when Adam told us that Vaggie was a former Exterminator, I couldn't believe it. Only after seeing Vaggie not denying any of the accusations, it dawned on me that she lied since the first day we met!"
"Well, have you tried to talk with her about it?" Emily asked, while feeling light pull on her shoulder.
"How do I strike up a conversation with that topic?" Charlie asked frustrated, before looking up and gasping, "Emily, you are slowly fading!"
Emily felt a pull again, this time much stronger "Don't worry, I will soon be back then we can talk more"
Emily faded out of her spirit form and felt as if she was rising up to heaven and back into her body.
"Michael, it worked, I man-" Emily was quickly silenced as she was slapped.
Emily was stunned, no one ever had hit her, but she quickly realized that she was in deep trouble, since not only Michael was standing in the room, but Adam, Lute and Sera as well.
