Kelpie and Finn had waited until nightfall before making their way to the house that they both knew inside out. Despite it having been nearly two years since Finn last was there, it still looked the same from the outside.
"Nothing has changed," he whispered.
"A few new faces on the inside," she whispered back.
She turned her head to look at him.
"This is as far as you go," she said.
"I'm not letting you go in there alone," he said.
"You left, Finn," she said. "That means it's a death sentence if you walk back in there. No one trusts you anymore."
"You do and your word goes a long way. You've been there for long enough for them to trust you. Drew fucking trusts you, Kelpie."
Drew was the leader running the entire house. When a job came in, he decided who to send out to take care of it. Everyone followed his word.
"He doesn't trust you," she said.
"He used to," he said.
"And then you broke it by leaving," she said.
"I had to get out. I couldn't do it anymore. I started growing a conscience and I worried everytime that you wouldn't return from a job. I would rather leave and not know if you were still alive or not than to be given the news that you had died," he said.
She looked at him for a few seconds and then moved in and kissed him. He cherished the kiss that got broken way too soon. She slowly moved away and smiled at him.
"What was that for?" He asked.
"If we die tonight, I got one last kiss. No one's kissed me since you left. Well, one tried and he lost his balls before Drew made him disappear for good," she said.
He chuckled and kissed her forehead.
"I've always admired how you don't take any bullshit from anyone," he said.
"Seth is about to find out," she said. "Get down!"
They dove down behind the bush and heard people leave the house. She knew who was going out on jobs and when, which was why she had to do this today where several jobs were lined up. They listened to car doors closing and then cars driving away. They slowly moved up and looked towards the house.
"We'll never get a better shot than today," she said. "There's still three people in there. Drew, Dean and Seth."
"Dean is a wildcard," he said.
"He secretly hates Seth while pretending to be his best friend. He won't give a fuck. If anything, he'll help us cover it up if we need to," she said.
"You always saw right through people," he chuckled.
"I always saw you," she said.
He smiled and leaned in for a quick kiss. He could only hope he would make it out alive tonight. He knew his chances were bad but he was not letting her do this alone.
"Let's do this," he said.
They moved towards the house and dodged all the cameras and alarms. They moved around to the back door since Seth's room was closer to that. She unlocked it and they slipped inside. They moved over to Seth's door and listened. They could hear him typing on his keyboard.
"We only got one shot," she whispered.
He nodded and took a few steps back. He ran towards the door and jammed his entire body into it. They both knew everyone would hear it. He didn't care. He did that three times before the wood gave way for them to get into Seth's room. To no surprise he sat waiting with his gun aimed at them. Kelpie pushed Finn out of the way so that Seth could only shoot her.
"What the fuck is going on?" Drew yelled.
"God damn it!" Seth muttered.
Seth had waited a second too long. He couldn't fire the gun now and pretend not to have seen it was Kelpie. She turned her head and looked at Drew and Dean walking down the hallway.
"What is he doing here?" Dean asked.
"He's unarmed," Kelpie said.
"No, he's not," Dean said.
"Do you see a fucking gun in his hand?" Kelpie asked. "At least let me explain before you shoot him."
Drew stopped in front of her and crossed his arms.
"Talk!" Drew demanded.
"Seth tried to have me murdered," Kelpie said.
"I did no such thing!" Seth yelled.
"Look at his computer. Find the e-mail he sent to the Usos under the name Secret Santa. There was never a job, Drew. It was Seth all along. He wants me gone for some reason," Kelpie said.
Drew looked through the busted door at Seth who was still holding a gun. He stepped into Seth's room and held out his hand.
"Give me your gun," Drew said.
"I didn't do anything wrong," Seth complained.
"In that case, you'll get your gun back and we'll take them out back to kill," Drew said. "Fair?"
Seth sneered and then placed his gun in Drew's hand. He held out his hand towards his laptop as an open invite.
"Go ahead. Search it," Seth said.
"Dean," Drew said.
"You won't find anything," Seth said.
"Be quiet," Drew said. "Let Dean do his job."
Dean walked over to the laptop and started searching it. Drew stood next to Seth while Kelpie and Finn kept standing by the door. Dean looked over at Kelpie and shook his head no. The laptop was clean.
"I told you so!" Seth yelled. "Give me my gun! I'm gonna fucking kill them both!"
"Not inside," Drew said.
Finn felt Kelpie's hand in his. He knew they were doomed. At least they would go out together. There was a weird comfort in knowing that.
"I'm sorry," Kelpie said.
"It's not your fault," Finn said.
"I shouldn't have let you come in here with me," Kelpie said.
"How cute," Seth laughed mockingly. "You know the way out to the backyard. Start walking."
Seth stood up and walked towards them. Dean moved in behind Seth and pulled Seth's phone up from his back pocket.
"Hey!" Seth protested.
Seth turned around, only to be met by a punch straight in the face. He tumbled backwards and placed his hands over his nose as blood started dripping out.
"Hold him," Dean said.
Drew and Finn quickly grabbed Seth while Dean looked through the phone.
"You never let anyone near your phone. I wonder why," Dean said. "Good thing I looked over your shoulder a while back to see you type in the password. In this line of work you really need to have a feeling of presence behind you but that ability got lost on you."
Dean grinned and turned the phone around so they all could see the proof on the screen. Seth's laptop was clean because he used his phone for that type of dirty work.
"You sold me out," Kelpie said.
"He's all yours," Dean said.
"No!" Seth yelled.
"You sold me out!" Kelpie screamed.
"Outside," Drew said.
Drew and Finn pulled Seth kicking and screaming out in the backyard. They held on to him while Kelpie stepped up in front of him.
"Why, Seth?" Kelpie asked.
"Finn, Finn, Finn!" Seth scoffed. "Even after two years you still couldn't figure out how to let him go. I fucking waited for you but you're so lost in the memory of a man who left you. I was so close to climbing into bed with you and just take what was supposed to be mine and then you cut the balls of Punk for trying that. I realized what a stuck up bitch you truly are. You don't deserve to be here. You don't deserve to fucking live."
Kelpie rubbed her temples and looked over at Drew first, and then over at Finn.
"I think I'm ready to retire with you," Kelpie said.
Finn smiled at Kelpie, and she drew her gun and put a hole in Seth's head. Drew and Finn let go, and Seth's body crashed to the ground.
"I'll get rid of him," Dean said. "About time that idiot disappears."
Finn stepped over to Kelpie and took her hand. She looked over at Drew and waited to hear their fate. Drew sighed and looked over at Dean.
"Tonight we found out Seth got Kelpie killed four days ago. It's a death sentence to take out one of our own without a good reason," Drew said.
"As long as I get to say I killed him," Dean grinned.
"You blew a hole in his head," Drew chuckled.
Drew looked over at Kelpie and Finn and nodded.
"Get out of here," Drew said. "And stay gone this time. As far as anyone in this house will ever be told, you no longer exist."
"Thank you," Kelpie said.
Kelpie and Finn made their way out of the garden and through the streets. They got back into his car and started on the long drive home.
"We're free," he smiled at her. "What do you wanna do next?"
"Sleep," she chuckled. "Let's sleep for as long as we can and then wake up to a brand new world."
"Just you and me, Kelpie," he said. "If you'll still have me."
"Didn't you hear Seth back there?" She laughed. "I couldn't figure out how to let you go."
"I never should have left without you," he said.
"Yes, you should. We all got a different path in life to follow. Our paths led us back to each other, and this time it's for good," she said.
She leaned over and placed a kiss on his cheek.
"I love you, Finn," she said.
"I love you too," he said. "Always have, always will."
