The Letter's Arrival

"It's here! My Hogwarts letter! The one I've been waiting ages for!" Ron echoed through the house. Molly came into the living room, wiping her hands on a towel. "Let me see!" She demanded. Ron handed it over. Her eyes quickly skimmed the contents of the letter while Ron bounced in the background, waiting for her to finish reading it. The seconds passed as Ron anxiously waited. "Oh, my baby's going to Hogwarts!" Molly squealed and wrapped Ron in a bear hug. "Mum, can't breathe! You're crushing me!" Ron wheezed. "Oh! I need to get everything ready for my Ronniekins' big day!"

She bustled around the room, pulling various plates and cutlery, summoning the food from the kitchen. Ron walked into the dining room and saw Ginny already sitting at the table. "Did your letter arrive? Congrats!" "Thanks Ginny!" "I will miss you when you're at Hogwarts." Ginny said. "So will I." Ron replied. He found this very weird. He remembered Ginny being sulky and moody for the rest of the day the day he got his letter. Did his time-travel affect it?

A plate appeared in front of him filled with his favorite food. "I made all your favorites." Molly said. "Thanks Mum! This looks delicious!" Ron exclaimed. "Oh! The garden needs de-gnoming. Think you can handle it on your own?" Molly questioned. "Why would he be on his own?" Ginny asked. "I can help him." She said. "Little girls should not be de-gnoming the gardens!" Molly exclaimed. "But Mum!" Ginny whined.

Ron, who had been watching this silently, cut in, "It's fine, mum, let her help." "Alright." Molly grudgingly agreed. "You done? Come on, let's go." Ron asked Ginny. She nodded. Ron got up and headed out to the front yard. Ginny followed him out. "Alright, now, to de-gnome the garden, you gotta swing 'em out the fence, so that they're dizzy enough not to return for a while." He showed her how to swing the gnomes. Ginny watched, fascinated. "Wow, that looks fun." He nodded. "I guess it could be."

Smirking slightly, "I bet I could swing the gnomes farther than you!" "Oh, you're on!" He searched for a gnome to throw. When he found one, he dived for it, catching it. He swung the gnome around his head, letting it gather momentum, before letting go. He watched as it flew way past the fence. "Whoo! That must be around 30 meters!" "It's my turn." Ginny said.

She grabbed a gnome off the ground and started spinning it. She spun it for a few seconds before letting go. "Ha-ha! That's way farther than yours!" She shouted, victoriously. "Fine, you win." Ron grumbled. "This time, anyway." He added under his breath. They stayed outside for a few hours until the entirety of the garden was de-gnomed. Sweaty and tired, they headed inside to freshen up.

He went up to his room to find a tawny owl sitting there with a letter in its talons. It swooped up to him, stretching its claws out for him to take the letter. "Hey! Who's writing letters to me?" He wondered. He left the letter on his desk as the owl flew out the window. He gathered some clothes and headed to the shower.

He came back into his room, freshly showered. He picked up the letter, and opened the seal on it.

Dear Ron,

It's me, Hermione! I really hope that you also travelled in time like I did, or this letter would be very awkward. How long has it been since you came back? Also, have you gotten your Hogwarts letter? I just got mine today! And do you have any idea how we came back in time? I've been trying to find any information on this, but since I don't have access to magic, it's proving to be very difficult. I found out that the muggle postal service also has wizards working in it! Which is how I sent this letter to you. I went to the nearest muggle post office and asked to send the letter through Air Mail. They understood what I meant (thankfully) and sent the letter to you through owl post. I really miss you! Hope you're well and not in trouble. And, hopefully, you've also come back in time, or as I said, this would be very awkward. Also, it's fine if you send a reply through owl. I've told my parents that owls might come and go from my room. They understood and will not provide any trouble.

Yours Sincerely

Hermione J. Granger

Hermione also came back in time? Well, this was wonderful! The love of his life had also come back in time! He needed to write a letter to her, explaining everything. He sat down at his desk and started searching for a quill and some parchment. He didn't realize earlier, but Hermione's letter was not written on parchment, but normal muggle paper. It made sense, assuming that she probably didn't have access to magic, and that included magical supplies. He assumed she wrote the letter with what muggles call a "pen". It seemed exactly like a self-inking quill. He dipped his quill into the ink pot and got to work. Chewing on the quill, he thought about what exactly he wanted to say. A thought struck him and he started writing.

Dear Hermione,

I did travel back in time, though why or how is unknown to me. I just got my letter today morning during breakfast. It's only been a week since I've arrived, and during that time, I've noticed something really strange about Ginny. 2 days ago, she asked mum if she could learn how to knit. Now, I know you're probably thinking, "How is that weird?" Let me answer that. It's weird because the 10 year-old Ginny I remember hated knitting. Whenever mum invited her to learn, she'd decline and run up to her room. Or at least, she used to. But now, she agrees and sits with mum for over an hour, chatting and knitting the entire time. Do you think me returning had anything to do with it? I really don't know. I'm looking forward to seeing you on the Hogwarts Express. Hopefully with Harry as well.

Love,

Ron
