Caroline's POV
I woke up, hoping that he would still be at home, but... no. He's already gone. Yep , another day without him. Sometimes I really ask myself if we are still together . I get up from my bed and go to the bathroom to do my morning routine. I curl my hair and I do a natural make-up, then I go back to my bedroom to get dressed. I chose a dark blue skirt with a white and black line shirt, a pair of nude stilettos and my nude bag.
Thirty minutes later I arrive at work. I took the elevator to the 6th floor where is my office. At the reception I saw Katherine.
"Good morning Kat!" I say when I see her.
"Hi Care, How was your weekend?"
"Um it was nice , I had dinner with Tyler on friday night."
"Oh, um... Elijah is sorry because he sent him on another business trip. It was a last-minute thing. Don't be mad at Tyler."
"Of course I am mad at him. He could've left me a note. I think we're over... I mean, yeah, he is nice to me, he gives me presents, but I don't want this. I want him. I'm in a relationship with him, not with his fucking presents." I blurted out.
"Oh..."
"Um im sorry i didn't mean to say all of this..."
"You were saying what you were thinking: the truth."
"Em , I gotta go."
"Ok. See you at lunch?"
"Yes, see you later" I entered my office, where I found two manuscripts on my desk.
I take one in my hand and I read the title HOWEVER LONG IT TAKES by Niklaus Mikaelson. The title sounds interesting, let's see if this book is good enough to be published. I take the manuscript and I started reading. The book was so interesting that I couldn't take my eyes off it.
I heard a knock at my door and checked my phone. Oh, God. It's already lunch break? I've read more than 150 pages in the last four hours. This book is amazing, and I think Niklaus Mikaelson, the author, should be published as soon as possible.
"Caroline?" I see Kat enter my office.
"Lunch break?"
"Sorry, I forgot. Just give me a minute!" I left the manuscript on my desk.
"I was so absorbed by that book. I didn't know how time passed so quickly."
"You like the book?" She asked me excitedly. "Like? No! I love it! This author is so good."
"Good to hear that."
"It's the first time I've read something so good."
"Should we order something or go to the restaurant across the street?"
"How do you like it? I don't have any preferences." "Let's go to the restaurant then."
After we came back from the restaurant, I went to my office to read that amazing book. After two hours, I was again interrupted by Kat.
"Care, Elijah wants to talk to you. Can you come to his office?"
"Yea sure." I left the book on the desk and went to Elijah's office.
"Caroline, thank you for coming. Take a seat." I sit down and wonder what he wants...
"You know why I asked you to come here?"
"No..."
"Good. I want to make you an offer."
"An offer? What kind of offer?"
"Well, in one month we are going to open a new Publishing House in New Orleans and I want you to be there. You are one of my best employees and I want to take you with us. Take as much time as you want to think about this. I know you will start college in September, but I know the dean of the best university in New Orleans and I can talk with him to make the transfer more easy. And I also have a place for you to stay. I want you to come with us because there are more resources and more possibilities in your career. I don't want an answer right now because I know you have a family, a boyfriend, and you want to talk with them first. Take your time, I'm not pushing you to say yes or no. You choose whatever you want."
What? He is giving me a new job in New Orleans? This is my chance to start a new life, far away from the mess here. I have to accept this offer, but first I should talk with my mom and... Tyler.
