The situation that she found herself in later was quite, difficult. Standing beside the couple she pondered over the next move. She had thought that she was going to live here-in the orphanage-for the rest of her life. Never actually exploring the possibility that she might get adopted, but here she stood. The couple looked at her with kind faces and she could not decide on the perfect choice.
It had been a month since she was found abandoned outside the orphanage. Bundled up in the scarves and shawl she had suffered from a heavy fever. In and out of consciousness she failed to notice her surroundings. By the time she was awake she recognized the shocking situation. She couldn't even walk for the first few days let alone travel outside and survey her surroundings.
Her soul had somehow attached itself to this body and quite quickly the fragments of her soul that was much powerful and older as that compared to the child had taken over and overpowered the body. Her soul had now found itself a new body and she had unconsciously or consciously helped in taking and suppressing the original soul fragment of the body.
These were things that she had of course read in all those novels in her past life. She loved those novels available on the internet. Chinese ones were especially her favourite ones. Because of her love for those novels, she even went as far as to publish one herself but before she could enjoy the fruits of her first novel being published, she passed away.
"Antares?" someone called her out softly. The matron of this orphanage-Saint Augustus Orphanage for Girls-looked at her. A question mark on her face as she looked at the child sitting on the chair just staring in a daze.
Antares, her new name that she had picked out for herself, snapped out of the flashbacks and looked at the matron. She softly nodded and gave the two adults sitting opposite her a smile, saying yes for the adoption. The adults joyfully surrounded her, and she blushingly accepted all the compliments.
Under the watchful and jealous eyes of all the other girls she bid goodbye to the matron and other helpers and sat down in the car. The two adults sat in the front while she sat at the back, hoping that this one turns out well.
Spoiler alert: it didn't.
The sound of flesh ripping out made her body shake even more. She made efforts to make herself even more quiet but alas it seemed that the monster heard her. /
"Antares-" they cooed, eagle eyes, black like coal, stared at her in the dark. "Come out darling-I just wish to play with my niece."
Crazy-Crazy person. She should have known it was too good to be true. Oh goodness! She won't die, She can't. Footsteps approached her as she steadily clutched the sharp object tightly into her hands. One chance.
She can't afford to lose it.
She can't-She won't die.
She pushed her leg forward, letting the monster see the white a dress, tempting them to come down under the table. A silent giggle-maniac bitch-echoed throughout the empty house.
The monster approached, slowly but surely ardently listening to the rapid breathing of the little girl hiding under the table.
"Found yo-AHHHHH!" The monster screamed as the sharp glass was plunged into their eyes. Antares quickly climbed out and picked out the knife from the fruit basket and inserted into the second eye. The new scream was much louder and filled with pain, screams and shout. She took out the knife again and plunged it into his palm. Again and again she repeated the process. The monster became weak as several parts of it's body was attacked. For the final blow she took the porcelain fruit bowl and smashed it on their head.
They fainted.
She felt no guilt. Not for a person like them.
The rain tonight was much heavier, and the outside seemed much scarier. She climbed down the stairs into the basement and took out the bag behind the cupboard. It was shoulder strap bag that was gifted to her by those adults. The Japanese were always good at inventing stuff and making it more accessible. Her small body climbed up the stair and she first entered into the adults bedroom.
They were not going to be back tonight. The monster had told them not to. The monster told them they would play all night so they happily went away on a little trip of their own.
She took out the bag and climbed on the vanity mirrors stool. Opening the drawers one by one she emptied the contents.
Jewellery, Papers of her identity, Scarves and that man's favourite lighters. Other things were too high up for her to reach. She took the stool and dragged it towards the cupboard, thank God she had memorized the password. Inserting the 4 digits she stood there as the locker opened. The cash was quickly emptied in one of those secret zip chains. Not all of it could fit in there so she used the main chain and stuffed the rest inside at the bottom.
'I'll use the clothes to cover it up.' she thought to herself.
Next, she stopped at her room.
Her body stopped moving because of the rapid knocks. She froze at the heavy clanking. The door was locked. She quickly calmed down and stuffed her clothes back in her bag. It looked like a balloon now. The pink bag was stuffed to the bottom, and she stopped thinking about the other stuff. Quickly she wore her shoes and climbed down towards the basement again and unlocked the back door.
'Fuck her height but bless her height too' she thought to herself.
All in the dark night a figure dressed in black shawl ran down the hill. It wasn't until days later when the couple came back did they discover that that woman had died and the child was missing. All that remained in the child's head was that she had murdered someone, she was now on the run with a lot of valuables.
This was her,
a murderer,
a robber,
this was her.
somehow those words were enough for her to lean against a tree and cry her heart out.
