Chapter 4: Beacon

It had been about 4 months since Naruto's graduation and in that time he had been accepted into Beacon but that was only a formality as both he and Sasuke knew they would get in.

Also in that time Naruto made sure to spend as much time as he possibly could with Ryoko. He knew that his sister would be fine but he would miss her a lot. She did so much for him and losing that was a blow that he never wanted to take. It would be difficult for him to stay the way he was without her but he felt that he could manage somehow.

When moving her stuff into her dorm the last of it being done the other day and now here he was with her in her room about to say goodbye. "Well that was hard work," she said.

Naruto nodded, "Yeah. I didn't realize how much stuff you had and wanted to take with you."

Ryoko looked to her older brother while pointing at him, "That is all of your doing! You are the one spoiling me!"

Naruto looked back at her, "You're the one who wanted to be spoiled."

Ryoko pouted and looked away from him, making Naruto sweat drop at her attitude. That was until she spun around and hugged her brother tightly, "I am going to miss you so much big brother."

Naruto sat there surprised for a second before he returned the hug with one of his own. "I am going to miss you too, Ryoko." He said with a tear going down his face.

Ryoko stepped away slightly but still held onto her brother, looking up at his eyes as both of their ocean blue eyes locked. "Are you going to be okay, Naruto?"

Naruto smirked, "I'll manag-"

"No." She said cutting him off, "You have to promise me you'll be okay. That you will take care of yourself. That you will live for you."

Naruto knew her meaning and honestly he was afraid for the same reasons too, "Honestly, Ryoko. I can't promise that I will be okay. I can't promise that I won't be harmed, and I can't promise that I won't have those thoughts again." Ryoko deflated. Hearing that from her brother was what scared her the most. He was being honest with her about himself, and that was scary. "But I can promise that I will be back to see you every month like we promised. I promise that I won't ever leave you alone, ever."

Ryoko smiled a little at this before burying her head back into his chest, "You better not." They held each other there for a while just enjoying each other's presence one last time.

Naruto had ended up meeting up with Sasuke very early on before getting on the bullhead to Beacon where nothing was really sad as they just focused on the task at hand, so the ride was uneventful.

They both immediately went to the auditorium where they were told to meet up with the headmaster. But after an explosion that went off that worried both of them, they had decided that if something bad did happen, it would be taken care of by the staff.

When they entered they saw that the auditorium was packed with students from all across the world, ranging from Atlus to Vacuo.

After some time the headmaster of Beacon, Ozpin, had walked on stage and began to address all of the Beacon hopefuls. "Hello everyone, my name is Professor Ozpin and I am the headmaster here at Beacon Academy and you have traveled here in search of knowledge. To hone your craft and acquire new skills and when you are done you decide that you dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But when I look amongst you and all I see is wasted energy. Someone who needs direction, a purpose. But I am here to tell you that you are misled."

Whispers began to stir in the auditorium as many questioned what he meant by that, "But aren't you a school to teach us how to become huntsmen?"

Ozpin looked at the person who said that and said, "Yes. We are here to give you the tools and the knowledge to be huntsmen, but whether or not you will become huntsmen remains to be seen. In this establishment we give the help you so desperately need. You will have to find your purpose. What do you seek for?" Just then a blonde women with emerald eyes and glasses walked on stage. She wore a white collared long sleeve with a cut out showing portions of her chest and cleavage. She also sported a black corset skirt with gold buttons going down her stomach area along with black leggings, long black heals, and a black cape with purple inside.

Another, however, came beside Ozpin. This was a man with silver hair which definitely defied gravity. This man wore a dark blue long sleeve with dark blue pants and black shoes, along with a black sleeveless jacket with a black headband that covered his left eye.

"These two people will become your teachers and professors. Would you both like to introduce yourselves?"

The women of the two approached the class, "As you all heard on the ride here, I am professor Goodwitch and I am the one who oversees one of the combat classes in this school."

She then stepped back allowing the man to come up and speak as well, "Hello, my name is Kakashi Hatake, I am this school's other combat class, aura manipulation." He then smiles at the students, "Good luck."

He then allowed the headmaster to take the reins again. "These are the tools that we provide. It is up to you to show us that you are able to learn and take advantage of these tools. Dismissed."

The woman now named Goodwitch, took center stage, "You all will be sleeping in the auditorium tonight. We will be providing you all with sleeping backs and the sort. If you wish to shower, you can as well with the map that we will be providing you. If you wish to roam around and look at the school as well. You are able to as well."

Naruto and Sasuke were walking back to the auditorium as they had just taken a tour of the school to be better acquainted with their surroundings. "This school is pretty big," Naruto said.

Sasuke hummed a yes, "It is to be expected from the best huntsmen school on Remnant to be fair."

Naruto nodded, "Yeah you're right but I just didn't expect it." They kept walking until they found someone who looked like they were sleeping under a tree with a jacket over his face.

Naruto looked up in the sky to see it was getting dark, "Should we wake him up, it is getting dark?"

Sasuke shrugged, resigning to follow Naruto's lead. Naruto decided to wake him up so he walked up to him and crouched down beginning to poke the person. "Hey man wake up, you should head to the auditorium, it's getting dark."

The guy began to stir until he sat up letting his jacket fall from his face. Sasuke from behind Naruto received a good look at the person. He wore a black long sleeve shirt with black pants along with a blue bandana on his left arm. He wore black boots along with his jacket that was on the floor which was beige in color with some green outlining the edges. He had black eyes with black hair pulled and wrapped into a ponytail along with silver hoop earrings on his ears.

The guy yawned loudly, "Wow it's this late already." The guy got up and grabbed his backpack that was next to him. "Thank you for waking me up, I appreciate it. Kind of lost track of time."

"No problem, but you should have set an alarm at least before napping," Sasuke said.

The guy shrugged, "Eh can't be helped now. Let's head to the auditorium." The guy began walking with Naruto and Sasuke next to him.

"So what's your name? If you don't mind me asking." Naruto asked.

"It's Shikamaru Nara."

Naruto gave a slight smile, "Naruto Namikaze and this is my friend."

"Sasuke Uchiha."

The now named Shikamaru nodded and they talked while heading to the resting place for everyone.

As the three arrived at the auditorium Shikamaru raised his open hand in goodbye motion, "Well I am going to find a nice and quiet spot to sleep."

Both Naruto and Sasuke sweat dropped at this, "Didn't you just sleep not too long ago?"

Shikamaru shrugged, "You could never have enough sleep." He then left Naruto and Sasuke to themselves.

"Damn," Naruto began, "I know I sleep a lot but that guy probably sleeps more than me."

"Which is surprising."

Naruto turned to his best friend, "Hey I'm not that bad." Sasuke just looked at him without saying a word, making Naruto turn his head in a pout. Sasuke sighed and shook his head and began finding them a spot and once he did he sat his bags down.

They both heard some yelling from across the room and saw Yang, Ruby, along with a girl with black hair and another with white hair. "Hmm it seems as though Ruby got in early. Not surprising when in the context of a couple of nights ago."

Naruto nodded, "That's unusual but not impossibly uncommon, from what I know your brother got into Beacon early as well." Sasuke nodded to this. "So do you see anyone else that is interesting? You like to scout out the competition a lot."

Sasuke's eyes turned red with three tomoes in them as he looked around the class, "Well there are a few." He turned off his semblance and began directing Naruto to where he was looking, "That hyperactive girl and the guy with black hair seemed strong. Along with Pyrrha Nikos being here."

"Oh," Naruto perked with interest, "The Pyrrha Nikos is here. Isn't that interesting."

Sasuke continued, "Besides Ruby and Yang's group of people who are still talking to each other, the Nara guy seemed strong along with a guy with black hair with white clothing that is next to him." The guy in question turned to them which surprised them slightly. He gave a smirk before going about his business, "Interesting seems as though he noticed us. Perceptive."

"Anybody else?"

Sasuke shook his head, "Not really no."

"Well we just have to see the rest in action tomorrow. Speaking of which, what did you mean about a couple of nights ago?"

"When I landed I heard an explosion and investigated. It was Ruby fighting against the criminal Roman Torchwick. After a bit someone else came and Glynda ended up appearing to help us out, but they did get away."

"Interesting."

"Not as interesting as a woman sending fireballs, making flaming eruptions, and creating a shockwave of fire without, what it seems like, the use of dust."

"Oh. That is interesting."

Sasuke nodded, "They said they would investigate but to my knowledge they still have no leads."

"Semblance?"

"That is a possibility but there is no semblance that allows you to conjure up elements out of thin air. Control may be but not made without outside sources. I can only make lightning and fire based attacks with the help of a dust crystal. But it seemed as though she didn't need any of that."

Naruto pondered on this information as he started setting up his bed, "Interesting. I don't like that."

Sasuke did the same, "Neither do I."

In the morning Naruto and Sasuke both got breakfast in the morning and were at the launch pad earlier than anybody else. Ozpin of course took note of this, "Ah it seems as though you two are the first ones here."

"You seem as though you aren't surprised," Sasuke noted.

"I can't say I am."

"Professor Ozpin, I have a question if you don't mind me asking?" Naruto looked at the headmaster.

"Of course, go ahead Mr. Namikaze."

"Why did you enroll, Ruby early?"

Ozpin perked up at the question, "She showed great skill when it came to dealing with Roman Torchwick in an incident about two weeks ago. I see potential in her, so I wouldn't underestimate her if I were you both."

Naruto and Sasuke nodded and waited in silence for the rest of the students. It also came at a shock to them that their group had both Yang and Ruby as well as Pyrrha in their group. Not only them but all the people that Sasuke pointed out.

After some spiel from Ozpin, that Naruto tuned out, about the dangers and things outside of him needing a relic, he prepared himself until he saw someone get launched into the air. Naruto calmed himself and Ozpin noticed the air around him changed in both him and Sasuke. Naruto was flung into the air with Sasuke following after. Naruto in the air looked down to see where he was going to be landing, which was going to be in front of a pack of beowulf. "Why do I always get the beowolves?" As he descended upon them he aimed his sword to the ground gathering the wind dust from inside it with his aura. As he was just above them he let out the attack as a gust of wind from the tip of the blade shot out boosting him slightly up stopping his momentum as the attack tore the grimm apart. He landed in front of the grimm, "Alright who's first."

Sasuke was walking in the forest with his hands at his sides. After a while a beowolf attacked him from a bush to his left. Faster than the grimm can even perceive, Sasuke took out his Chokuto sword and stabbed it in the face. He then heard some fighting and heard a very familiar roar to which he came across Naruto finishing up. Sasuke then threw his sword at Naruto for him to dodge it and it hit the grimm trying to sneak up on him.

"You done?" Sasuke asked, while he retrieved his sword.

Naruto shrugged, "More or less."

Sasuke smirked, "Good now, let's move on shall we?" Before they started moving there was a sound from the bush next to them and they immediately put a hand on their weapon ready to attack.

"Woah, woah, put the weapons down it's just me." Out of the bushes came the same black haired person that they saw originally when they arrived at Beacon.

"Ah Shikamaru, correct?" Naruto asked.

Shikamaru nodded, "Yeah I was walking through looking for a partner when I saw you guys fighting. I guess neither of you will be my partner since you guys are partners but if I stay with you guys, I'll eventually run into someone."

Naruto nodded, "That makes sense, I don't see why not?" Sasuke also nodded, okay with this development.

"Alright then shall we?" They all began walking and talking to each other.

"So what kind of weapons do you have?" Naruto asked.

Shikamaru took out a couple of knives. These knives were black with green engravings on the blade along with a green cloth wrapping around the handle. In the middle of the blade was also a red fire dust crystal that could be seen on either side. Lastly at the bottom of the handle was a circle that was wide enough that it could fit a thumb comfortably inside it. "I use a pair of dust knives," he then pulled the bottom and out came a wire that connected the weapon and the pummel, "I also use wires to help with range. By the blades on your backs, you both use swords."

Naruto nodded, "I use a katana that has wind dust that I use to augment my strikes."

"And I use a Chokuto," Sasuke began, "I use lightning and also fire dust as well to help with long range abilities."

"Interesting."

They all went through a bush and found the temple that they were searching for however…

Just as they got there they saw a blond boy and white haired girl fall to the ground with the blond on his stomach and the girl sitting on his back, "My hero."

"My back," he said in pain.

"What the hell?" Naruto asked.

"Good to see you guys had gotten here," all three looked to their right to see someone with long brown hair that went to his back and tied in a low ponytail at the bottom of it. He wore a black sash on his forehead along with a white mistralian style long sleeve shirt which has the sleeves being a bit big but never going past his wrists. Lastly he had black sweats that were baggy and a black sash on his waist. His hair framed his face, but his eyes seemed as though he was blind with almost to no color. From what Sasuke could pick up he had a cyan and white bracelet on each wrist.

This was the same person they saw when they were ready to sleep, 'Those bracelets are radiating energy. He looks like a close quarters fighter.'

"And now I also have a partner," the man walked up to Shikamaru, "Hello I am Neji Hyuga, it is a pleasure to meet you."

Neji extended his hand for Shikamaru to shake, which he took, "Shikamaru Nara and likewise."

"Great the gang's all here now we can die together," Yang said.

"That's not very optimistic," Naruto said.

"Not if I can help it," Ruby then began charging a deathstalker.

"Oh no," Shikamaru said and began running after her. Sasuke sighed and did the same with Weiss following behind him.

"Ruby, wait!" Yang yelled but her call met deaf ears.

Naruto walked up next to Yang, "She'll be fine. Sasuke and the others got her, but it should be a learning experience for her."

"Learning experience, she's going to get hurt!" Yang yelled at Naruto, who shook his head and motioned her to look on.

Ruby ended up trying to run back but a Nevermore from the sky trapped her by one of its feathers, which stabbed her cape. As the stinger was raised to end Ruby's life it abruptly stopped as if it was frozen.

"You guys can handle it now!" Shikamaru yelled as he had a hand on the ground and from what it looked like his shadow stretched to the Grimm and that was stopping him. Weiss took this time to freeze the grimm in place for a short time and Sasuke cut off the feather freeing Ruby before grabbing her by the cape and leaping away from the Grimm.

Shikamaru's shadow then rescinded back to him as he stretched his shoulder, while Sasuke dropped Ruby on her butt on the ground, "Don't do that again. You need to be more careful," before Ruby could say anything he just walked away back to the others as she began being berated by Weiss.

Naruto raised a hand to Sasuke, "Nice job man."

Sasuke met his gesture, "It's nothing but she needs to get this notion that she needs to prove herself out of her head or it will land her in more trouble."

Yang took in the information and tried to defend her sister, "She is two years younger than us, she is-"

"Just a child?" Sasuke rebutted, "Whether or not if she is a child, the Grimm do not care. We are here to be huntsmen, there are no children here on the battlefield. Saying that she is just a child is a slap to her own face and spitting at the fact that she was able to get here in the first place." Sasuke then turned to Naruto, "I'll be getting our relic."

Naruto nodded, "I'll go with you," Neji said, leaving them.

Naruto noticed the conflicted look on Yang's face, "I know what Sasuke said is cruel, but these are the facts of the situation. It's better to realize them now before it's too late." Naruto exited the conversation towards his partner. "Did you have to be so harsh?" Sasuke didn't say anything but gave Naruto a look which made him back off, "Fair enough."

"Guys that thing is circling back," the blonde haired boy with armor said, pointing at the Nevermore, "What are we going to do?"

"There's no point in dilly dallying. Our objective is right in front of us," the schnee said.

"She's right," Ruby began, "Our objective is to grab an artifact and make it back to the cliffs. There is no point in fighting these things."

Weiss approved of this, "Run and live. That's an idea I can get behind," said the blonde boy. The remaining teams began grabbing their relics and started running to the cliffs. But before they could start things began to shake as they waited until a Grimm came out.

This Grimm was no ordinary Grimm however, it had two legs in the shape of an ox along with an ox face and two horns protruding out of its head. Lastly it had white bone armor around the chest and back. It was a Minotaur Grimm.

"Oh no," Weiss said.

"What is a Minotaur doing here," the long black haired women wearing white and black asked. Everyone prepared to defend themselves but then a yellow blue shot from behind them as Naruto sped and hit the Grimm in the face with a fierce punch. The grim tried to retaliate with its giant claws only for Sasuke to block it with his sword and deflect it.

"You guys go, we'll distract it," Naruto said, slashing at his exposed arm.

"Are you guys insane? You can't beat that!" The blonde boy said.

"Go now!" Sasuke ordered. Which made them comply.

"You guys better be at the cliff!" Ruby yelled back. The Minotaur tried to punch a distracted Naruto only for his arm to be wrapped with wire and pulled off course by Shikamaru.

"We will, now go!" Naruto said.

The others complied with their wishes, leaving Naruto, Sasuke, Shikamaru, and Neji to fight the Grimm.

Ruby and the others had just took down the Deathstalker and Nevermore and were now exhausted, "Man that took a lot out of us," Yang said.

"What about Naruto and the others?" Ruby asked with concern.

Pyrrha and the others waited for someone to let them come out of the forest, "I'm sorry but they may not have-" Pyrrha was cut off as Naruto was seen flying out of the forest as he hit one of the pillars they all passed.

The crazy thing was that Naruto got up like nothing happened and had a smile on his face, "Damn this thing is tough."

The others also came out to regroup with him as the Minotaur also arrived with a loud roar.

"Do you guys need help?" Blake asked.

Naruto turned to them, "Nah we got it."

Naruto charged at it with his sword drawn, as he then transformed it to his bow as the Minotaur threw a heavy punch to him. Naruto jumped up and over it and aimed his as three blue arrows appeared and shot down at the Minotaur. It didn't connect as it was meant to slightly cage him, as Neji ran in, his bracelets were transformed into his weapon which as it was like metal covered his whole arm with blue light illuminating from it. "Take this!" He then unleashed an open palm strike at its chest with aura and wind dust enhancing it, it shocked almost everyone as it sent it a little ways back, showing Neji's strength. They also noticed that veins could be seen around Neji's eyes.

Neji charged again and flipped over an attack and elbowed the back of the Grimm making it stumble forward. It tried to hit Neji with its tail with his back turned, but like Neji had eyes in the back of his head, he ducked it with Sasuke and Shikamaru arriving in front of the Minotaur. Sasuke went first and with his Sharingan knew where the Grimm was going to strike and made minimal movements and dodged it by a hair. He jumped up and using lightning was trying to strike at his eyes. The Minotaur was going to use his horns to intercept but found that it couldn't move courtesy of Shikamaru's semblance as a shadow bound him in place with Shikamaru's hand on the ground.

With him restrained Sasuke in one slash cut at its eyes making it blind as Shikamaru let it go. The beast started swinging wildly as it thrashed about, one was heading for Shikamaru, who wasn't going to be fast enough to dodge it. Luckily he didn't have to as Naruto showed up and held its giant fist with his own as he held it there. Sasuke thought fast and quickly raced to Naruto and with a lightning infused attack from his sword, he cut the Grimm's arm clean off. Shikamaru saw this as a chance and took his shadow and turned it to tendrils as it wrapped around the beast's ankles.

"Neji!" The young man in response to Shikamaru's cry appeared in front of the beast and with a powerful aura and wind infused palm strike hit the beast in the chest. Shikamaru pulled his shadow and tripped the beast so that he was on his back.

"Shikamaru, throw me up!" Shikamaru with no question grabbed Naruto by his ankle with his shadow and threw Naruto into the air.

Naruto corrected himself and clicked a button on his bow and he began to pour aura into a shot. However instead of blue the shot was slowly turning orange and red as a slot on the handle opened revealing a red crystal. This fire dust's energy was slowly seeping into the aura arrow and erupted and allowed a giant arrow of fire to come to life. "Everyone step back!" Sasuke said as he retreated from the Grimm.

The arrow grew bigger and hotter until it reached its apex which was almost just as tall as Naruto himself. "Perish," Naruto uttered softly as the arrow came shooting down at the beast, leaving nothing but cinder and ash as a wall of flame erupted. Naruto landed outside of it, "Now that that's done. Let's get out of here shall we?"

Weiss and Jaune looked at them with a baffled look. Ruby and Nora with excitement in her eyes as she thought it was cool. Blake, Pyrrha, and Yang looked impressed about everything.

"Naruto Namikaze, Sasuke Uchiha, Shikamaru Nara, and Neji Hyuga. You all received the black knight pieces. From this day forward you will be known as Team NNHS (Nights) led by Naruto Namikaze," Ozpin said as he saw Naruto's teammates congratulate him mainly Shikamaru and Neji with Sasuke giving him a fist bump. "Things are shaping out to be an interesting year."

On the roof of the dorm Naruto was waiting as his scroll rang, "Hello?" Naruto heard his little sister as he brightened up.

"Hey Ryoko, I was calling to let you know that I made it into Beacon and passed the initiation."

"That's great! I knew you could do it!"

Naruto scratched his cheek out of habit, "Heh thanks. I was also made team captain but I personally think it should have been Shikamaru or Sasuke. They are a little more tactical than I am."

"While you may not be as tactical, your spirit alone is more than enough to make you a leader. You inspire a lot of people, Naruto. Don't sell yourself so short, big brother."

Naruto sighed but a smile crept to his face, "Maybe, you're right." He looked at the broken moon a little content, "So how is school, you know Sasuke also asked too. So how are you holding up?"

"School is just fine. It's just another school and with what you taught me I am holding up pretty nicely."

"Well that's good to know. If you stay with it at school, I will make sure to do the same here as well. Deal?"

Ryoko laughed sweetly and to Naruto it was music to his ears, "Deal."

So looking back (as this chapter was made months before the JJK shibuya arc) I realize that the last fire arrow does remind me of Sukuna's fire arrow, which is completely by accident. With that being said it actually fits with Naruto doing a Sukuna based attack, with some of the plans I have for him and how he is going grow stronger and grow as a person.
