Spencer heard his phone ringing during his dream. He thought his dream was turning into a nightmare because he truly wanted some time off after the last case and a phone call in the middle of the night could only mean a major issue needed their attention immediately. He forced his eyes open to see that it was 3 am and that just drove home the idea that the phone call was another case. All his body wanted to do right now was sleep. He glanced at the caller ID to see Lila's name on it. That made his mind just race at why she would be calling him right now. "Lila, do you know what time it is in Virginia?"
"Of course I do." He could hear that she had been crying.
He sat up to force his mind to clear so he could give her all of his attention. "Are you ok? What's going on?"
"I'm downstairs right now and I want to come up, please."
He jumped up out of the bed and padded, barefoot into the front room. "Come up now. I'm at my door." He could hear her running up the stairs. When he saw her turn the corner onto his floor, he could see that whatever had happened wasn't good. He opened the door wider as she ran into his apartment. She jumped into his chest before he could get the door completely closed. He wrapped his arms around her as she started to cry. "It's ok. I got you. Everything is going to be ok."
"Oh Spencer, I'm so sorry."
He lifted her up off the floor and walked over to the sofa. "You have nothing to be sorry about, Lila." He put her on the sofa and grabbed a blanket to cover her. "Why didn't you tell me you were in town?"
She cuddled up under the blanket as he sat next to her. "Because I wasn't. I was in New York City promoting the new film. My manager thought it would be a great idea for me to attend the premiere with my co-star and give some mystery to the "will they won't they" rumors that this type of movie normally has." She needed to be closer to him. He made her feel comfortable and protected. She kicked her shoes onto the floor and crawled into his lap, covering them both in the blanket. He kissed her forehead and she put her head on his shoulder. "I thought that it was a valid idea so I got dressed and met up with him so we could ride together." He could feel her tears on his neck as she tried to get her thoughts together. He held her tighter as she got her thoughts together. "Before we even got to the theater, his hands were all over me in the back of the car. I told him I was dating an FBI agent and that I didn't appreciate him trying to reach up my skirt and forcibly trying to kiss me. He tried again. This time actually grabbing me under my skirt and I slapped his hand away, telling him NO." He could tell that while she was upset at what had happened, she was also embarrassed by what happened to her. "Spencer, he laughed in my face and said I was nothing but a piece of meat and that if my imaginary FBI agent really wanted to be with me that he would have been my date and not him. I didn't know what to say or do at that point. I was completely stunned that this man thought he could say something like that to me, to think I was lying about you, to think I was nothing more than a woman to be used for my body rather than respected. I just pulled it together and put a smile on my face because I needed to be present for the premiere." She sat up so she could look into his eyes as she continued. "All I wanted was to call you and tell you that I needed you right then but I didn't want you to think I was being some dumb girl who wanted some man to swoop in and save her."
"Never be sorry for wanting to call me. If I would've known what he was doing I could've at least talked to your security and had them keep him off of you. You know Ben doesn't like when people put hands on you."
"I know but Ben was actually not there tonight. His wife just gave birth to their first child and I told him to stay home with them."
Spencer just looked at her shocked. "Are you telling me that you went out in public without any protection at all?" She nodded as he took a deep breath trying to control his urge to get upset.
"I thought I would be ok. I had a 'date' and my manager was going to be meeting us there. I was going to insist that he sit with us in the theater and hopefully that would make this man keep his hands to himself." She shrugged as she shook her head. "We got there and this guy would not let me leave his side and then I found out my manager went to one of his other clients' movie premieres instead of mine. Spencer, the minute I found out I was all by myself with this dude, I was panicked and all I wanted to do was leave. Honestly, all I wanted to do was call you and I almost called you from the front of the theater in front of all of the cameras and fans standing there." He gave her a hug as she angrily tried to wipe away the tears spilling out of her eyes. "I kept up the act and took the photos with this man and went into the theater. Of course he sat next to me and started with his hands up my skirt again, laughing every time I tried to pull it down and cover myself. He would pull my skirt up so high that almost all of my body was out for everyone in the theater to see. I felt so exposed and so demeaned. This time I just ignored him as the movie started. I let the movie get about an hour in before I excused myself to the restroom. I asked one of the girls behind the candy counter if there was a back way out of the theater so no one would know I was leaving. At first she just gave me a weird look like why would the star of the movie want to be leaving the party but I told her that my date was not taking NO for an answer, that he was so handsy that he was exposing all of my private parts to everyone in the theater and I wanted…no, I needed to get out of there now. Once she realized I wasn't lying, she let me out the employee entrance and I took a taxi here."
"Wait! You took a taxi from New York to my front door? That's at least a five hour trip."
"Yeah but the guy was one who really wanted to save the damsel in distress. I paid him well. I literally gave him all of the cash I had in my clutch which was close to $1000 and told him he did save the princess tonight."
Spencer held her in his arms as he was just so thankful she was there in one piece. "I need to find out who your driver was and send him more money as a thank you for bringing you here."
She smiled. "I took a photo of his ID just in case he also wasn't a good guy so I can get Ben to have his friends find him and we can arrange for him to get a nice bonus." Spencer nodded as he started to think about what else they needed to do. He felt her shift in his lap a little bit. "I want to get out of this damn dress. Can I wear some of your clothes tonight?"
"Of course. You can take a shower and I'll get you one of my shirts to wear to bed. I can sleep here on the sofa so you can have the bed."
She shook her head. "No, Spencer! I didn't come all this way for you to not be next to me for the rest of the night. You'll sleep next to me all night…or at least for the rest of what's left of it." She giggled as they got up and she made her way to the bathroom.
Spencer pulled out one of the shirts that Morgan had given him as a Christmas gag gift and set it on the counter. "Lila, I set the shirt on the counter for when you get out. I'm going to send Hotch a text and tell him that I'm taking tomorrow off since you're going to have to deal with the backlash of leaving the theater and not telling anyone where you went."
"Sounds good. I just want to curl up in your arms and sleep."
He smiled knowing that he was her safe place and he intended to be there for her. He grabbed his phone and sent the text.
Hotch, something has come up and I need to take a vacation day tomorrow. I'll see you on Monday.
He didn't want to give any more information than that even to his boss because he knew when he gets to the office on Monday he'll already have a million questions about what was so much more important than coming into work. He truly wasn't ready to answer those questions.
Hotch quickly texted him back. That's fine. Hope everything is ok with your mom. We'll see you Monday.
He was glad that Hotch assumed it was his mom that the issue came up with. As he set his phone down, he heard her. "Why do you have a shirt that says "Baby Boy" on it?"
He sighed. "At least it doesn't say 'Pretty Boy' on it? Morgan thought it would be a great way to have a laugh at my expense during the staff Christmas gift exchange." He turned to see her standing in the doorway, fresh from the shower. He loved to see her without all of the make up and glamor on. "You're beautiful."
She laughed as she jumped onto his bed. "Oh Spencer! I look so …"
"Natural and absolutely gorgeous." He leaned in and kissed her lips. "Now, get under the covers while I go turn off the lights and make sure the door is locked. I'm off until Monday and I think we need to get a little sleep before you need to start making calls in the morning and explain what happened and why you ran." She nodded as she put her head on his pillow. He smiled when he got back to the bedroom to find her sleeping peacefully already.
