Mysterious Pokemon

Part 2

Author Notes: Happy chat time with Clover~ It's time to figure out what made such a dangerous situation occur-or rather what the dangerous situation even is. Time to get started my friends. I do not own Pokemon.

Last time...

Frankly you were terrified of that particular issue, but you apparently were a remedy for the lack of trust. Baby Kanga was pretty much glued to your side, refusing to take even a step away from you. At the very least it was a good sign because that was typical behavior for her species' age.

Having a maternal pokemon made things a lot easier too. "Nappy time sweetie!" Since being abducted, the poke-child felt safe and secure. Meaning the next priority would be nap time. "Sing it to lala land blissey. I'll be back in a bit." You needed to talk to Clover. Now!

2nd P.O.V

Whether that talk results in you clobbering her has yet to be seen. "Professor, see if anyone's gotten word on a pokemon rampage and keep me in the loop. Akari, Rei, take me to Clover." Everyone was still wearing shocked expressions. Why?

There were more important things to do than stand around looking like idiots. "Let's go. We're burning daylight." The urge to roll your eyes was strong as everyone snapped to attention. "R-right!" Though you do sigh, following along with Adaman at your side.

"I didn't realize you were so skilled with handling baby pokemon Shishi." You gave him a tired smile. "Let's just say I've had some experience with them back in my old home. That species in particular is Very familiar to me." Curiosity was piqued, you could see it in his eyes.

What did you do in your other world? That was going to be his question. However, there was no time for him to ask, not when you arrived the staircase leading to the dungeons. Together you led the way down the stairs. Little lanterns guiding our way in the darkness. "Let me out of here!"

It didn't take long for you to see in the dim light the unlucky bandit herself. Clover, all nice and cozy in her cell. "Well isn't this a lovely surprise. Having fun in there Clover?" She snarls at you, as expected.

"What the hell are you doing here?!" You couldn't tell if she was referring to you or Adaman, but frankly you couldn't care less. Though you do roll your eyes. "Isn't it obvious? I came to talk to you. I wanna know where you got that baby kangaskhan from." She had the audacity to tsk at you.

Crossing her arms with her nose turned up. Uppity bitch. "Why should I tell you anything you irritating pest! Unless you get that stupid chief of yours to release me I'm not saying shit." Yeah, that was the answer you thought you were going to get.

Sucks to be her, you weren't in the mood to get into her good graces. Instead, you grab her by the collar, forcing her to look into your enraged eyes. "Listen here you obnoxious weed and listen good. That pokemon you stole is a baby of a species that could decimate this whole village and then some."

She tries to struggle out of your grip, but her efforts only make her choke for a moment. Still she refuses to cower in your hold. "S-so what!?" She's going to get a wake up call soon enough. But better it be from you.

"Funny thing about Mama Kangaskhan...when someone hurts or steals their kids, they go on a rampage. Literally destroying anything and everything in their wake to go after the person that became a threat to their kin. Did I mention they have a VERY good sense of smell?"

At least then she has a chance of surviving. Not that you're really giving her good odds. "H-how good we talking here?" If she can't handle you in a one on one battle, she's got no chance against an angry mama kanga.

You could only give her a small, pitiful smile. "So good that there's not a place in this world that will protect you. You'd have to have the luck of the gods and even then, it won't matter because whether you like it or not she will not stop searching for you." It's no light matter when one is angry.

No one is safe. "From the moment they realize their kids are missing, a mama kanga will have their nose lead the way. Following whatever trail of her child. Anywhere you've been, she's heading for and won't stop until either a-she gets her baby back or b-kills the one that hurt or took them."

It was no wonder you couldn't find this mysterious monster of a pokemon. It wasn't behaving normally to where you could find a trail, as the trail probably went cold long before you even arrived to search.

"So if I were you Clover...I'd start talking about where and how you got that baby kanga. Because the only thing that's going to protect you from her rampage is your cooperation." You see her swallow. Glad to see she was actually listening to you.

That she knew you were dead serious, because with all the shit she's pulled on you, it wouldn't take much for you to send her ass out to her doom. "I was at the Cobalt Coastland. There was a man that had a bunch of rare, exotic pokemon-I swiped it before dawn." Yep, ok, that made sense.

The trail definitely went cold by the time you arrived. The rumors occurred right when big old mama was on a manhunt. "What were the locations you were at before your capture. Tick tock." You needed a timeline and fast.

If Clover was just captured, and has been followed since dawn then you had very little time to prepare. Though they weren't the fastest of pokemon...they could move when given strong motivation.

"I was heading for the docks near Jubilife, I had made a ransom for the man I stole from. He was going to pay me a huge sum of money. But I got caught before I could get there." That didn't spell good news.

Didn't the man realize just how dangerous and stupid that was? Wait... "He agreed to pay? Without telling anyone!?" You shared a glance with Adaman, him easily able to read your incredulous expression. "Yeah what of it!?"

This didn't sound right at all. Matter of fact this was shady as all hell. "I'll go talk to Kamado to see about this man and if I can find anything important." You were grateful, thanking him as he walked off.

Like you, he could feel something was very, very wrong about this. "What, he doesn't believe me!? The hell do I need to lie at this point!?" You could only shake your head. "No. But think about it Clover...you're a smart lady right?" Maybe you were being paranoid.

"What?" But...there was that feeling in your gut. "A guy you stole and threw a ransom at, immediately agrees to pay without alerting a village that's really close to your meet up point that his pokemon was stolen. Let alone that it was a very rare and hostile pokemon that could result in massive damage..."

It didn't take her long for her eyes to widen in realization. "Did you choose to meet at the docks or him?" She bites her lips, the pieces forming. "Him. Said he didn't want to make a big deal out of it. He hands over the cash, I hand over the pokemon and we never speak of it ever again." There it was.

All the confirmation you needed. "You were played. He had no intentions of ever handing over the cash. He let mama kanga loose, expecting you to get killed before ever making it to the meeting point." It was actually a miracle she made it as far as she did.

Jubilife was on the other side of the region...Clover made quite the distance with the baby. She probably would've made it had she'd not been captured...if she did, chances are she would've been killed with no one the wiser. A chill goes through you at the thought.

Memories trapped in the back of your mind returned in full force, before you shook it off. You winced as she shrieked, enrage. Slamming her hands against the bar. "That bastards going to pay!"

Clover probably never thought she'd be duped, let alone by her own target. But you've seen this behavior before back in your present time. Funny how things work out. Guess it was the oldest trick in the book when it comes to scams.

"Let me out of here Shishi! Just this once I'll work with you, but I need to be let out so my sisters know what's going on. They said they would meet with me before I headed to the docks." At that you shake your head.

No matter how much you believe her, this wasn't a decision you could make. "There's no time to alert them, as we speak mama kanga is coming. The priority is stopping her rampage."

She growled at you, against hitting the bars. "Isn't your fucking job to protect people? My sisters are possibly in danger while you're just standing around talking to me!" Again you shake your head.

"You said you got captured before you met up with them right? Let alone hit the docks. Let me repeat. Mama Kanga is following the trail of her missing baby. She's coming for her-and you! You're better off staying down here. You will be protected since the kangaskhan has to make it through the village first."

As much as it probably pained her to admit it, her face said it all, you were right. "Ok, but how do we plan to stop that thing! And don't tell me you're letting that bastard get away with this!?" Oh no, not by a long shot. You shoot her a smile, one that makes ice run down her spine.

You weren't letting anyone get out scot free. "Definitely not. Here's the deal. I'm going after mama Kanga. Once things are settled, i'll let you out and we can deal with your favorite client. If I run into your sisters I'll let them know the situation. However...you or them try pulling shit and I'll let the big mama hunt you."

At that you put your hand through the bars. "I need your cooperation, I need you to promise you won't try anything...because i'm putting my trust in you to let me handle the situation. Taking advantage of me will resulting in me paying you back in interest. And it WON'T be pleasant." You hoped for a truce.

You may not like her, or agree with how she lives her life, but you've seen what happens to victims of hostile pokemon like kangaskhan. And you wouldn't wish such a terrible, painful fate like that on anyone.

"I already told you i'd work with you...my sisters will be harder to convince." Much to your surprise she takes your hand, giving it a single shake. "Is there something I could tell them to get them to agree? I'm not paying them, but I would hope they wouldn't want you to get killed." At that she snorts.

Feeling insulted with your remark. "We may be bandits but we're family. They may try challenging you to a battle or not believe your story...but if you say 'someone's plucked Clover' they'll instantly be alarmed and more willing to listen." An interesting phrase.

You couldn't help furrowing your brows. "Why would that get their attention?" For a moment there's hesitation as she looks away from your gaze. "When...we first met up we came up with a bunch of codes. Certain things to say, in case we needed to speak about something important but couldn't be open about it."

Fair point. You won't ask anymore about the subject. You had a promise to keep. "Alright. Then I guess I better get going then. Hang tight Clover." She gives you a single nod, allowing you to walk away. You return to the upper floors of the Survey Corps base, just to run into Kamado and Adaman...perfect.

"Just the two I was hoping to run into. Listen, we don't have much time but..."

To be continued
