Roads Less Traveled (But Roads Travel Anyway): Period II
By: M14Mouse
Summary: Luan and Theo's car ride was interesting. So was their arrival.
Disclaimer: Don't own them.
"So, power ranger business, huh?" Luan asked.
Theo groaned as he sunk into the passenger seat. His brother was nice to him until they were out of the city before he asked.
It was a terrible lie. In his defense, he panicked, and it was the first thing that came to mind.
"Dude, you are a terrible liar. Without internet access? Come on."
"From what I gathered from Master Swoop…the main school is isolated and probably doesn't have internet access," He noted.
"But we aren't going out to the middle of nowhere…we are going to some pizza place," Luan asked in confusion.
He shrugged.
"Apparently, one of their Masters lives there."
"Their Masters? The whole animal thing that we have seen on tv has Masters?"
"From my research, Pai Zhaq were an ancient clan that can channel animal spirits. They hold the belief that everyone has an animal spirit but not everyone can achieve it. They were almost always neutral and under the radar. That is why not many people have heard of them. I didn't hear about them until I joined Wind Ninja. That is the cliff notes version since Wind Ninja doesn't know much about them either. They have different beliefs and different abilities. So, they didn't cross much."
"Interesting. Why…Oh…I get it…why they called you guys," Luan said as he eyed him then the road.
"Our school had a power ranger team. I know Brairwood is closer with the Mystic Force Rangers, but they probably think since we are martial arts focused. They thought that we may be able to help more than Mystic Force. I don't really know all the details. I'm just the messenger with a scroll."
"Why would they need help? They seem pretty good from what I have seen on tv even if they nearly go their asses handed to them a few times."
"Apparently, there are some losses that we don't know about."
Master Swoop is rather mute about the topic, but Master Hanson said that there were injuries to the team. He could take a guess but that would be rude.
"Damn…."
He nodded. His brother paused for a moment.
"I don't know much about this ranger stuff, bro. So, something is wrong, I guess?" His brother asked.
"They lack a blue ranger. They don't have balance. Mind, body, and spirit like what I learned in school."
Out of the corner of his eyes, he could see his brother giving him a funny look.
"Then what are the other colors for? Chopped liver?"
"No…they enhanced the team. Strengthen it. Greens are known for their quick wit and add emotional stability to a team."
"Cam isn't a touchy-feely person."
"According to my Master, he can be. It just takes time for him to open up to others."
"In other words, dude, you have to tilt the picture like 90 degrees and be at sunset for him to be emotional."
He burst out laughing.
Oh, he had to tell the Master that. She would love to hear that.
"So, that is what the scroll is or even does? Magically fix its abilities?"
He shrugged.
"No idea."
"Why didn't this Swoop guy take it while he was there? Instead of stalking you…Although, it was hilarious when you dropped some water on his head," Luan added.
"According to Master Hanson, they had to do their own research before passing the information along. Apparently, we have some old power ranger lore scrolls in the basement. The Masters had to go down there. It is very dusty from what I heard…Master Brooks wasn't too happy."
His brother laughed.
"Dustin didn't seem all into research. Huh…make sense. Although, I'm still not sure why they asked you, dude…"
"Master Swoop knows me. So, he could describe me to the others, and you are on the way to a gig there. So…I got elected," He said with a wave.
"I am your driver now, bro?"
"And such a fine job that you do."
Lu laughed.
"Okay…Okay…besides, it will be a good lunch break for us. I heard the pizza is good. I get to meet more power rangers and get some bragging rights over Eric."
"I think that Eric still met more than you. According to him, he ran into Joel from Lightspeed."
"Wha…NO FAIR!"
