Chapter 3
Yelena woke up and looked around. She was in a dark room, with one light above her head that didn't always work like it was supposed to. There was a door without a window next to her bed, a toilet and a desk. A cell… great. She decided to explore a bit. One of her feet was tied to the floor with a chain. "Oh, come on!" She tugged on it. The door opened and a guard came in. "You're wanted for interrogation." She answered without looking up. "Great. I want to tell you all about the mind-control stuff." The guard didn't answer. He grabbed a key and freed her ankle from the chains. "Let me see your hands." She held them out and the guard cuffed them again. They walked across the halls; Yelena was studying her surroundings to find out where she was but gave up because they all looked the same. Long and grey. They eventually stopped at a small room. "Go inside. Agent May will be there in a minute." She stepped into the room. It looked a little like her cell. A dark room. Only this one had a big table in the middle with a chair on each side and a giant mirror. Obviously, it was a one-sided window. "May? That name sounds familiar…"
Yelena sat down at the table. The door opened again, an Asian woman came in. She was very serious and was hard to read. "Hello. I'm agent Melinda May." She sat down. "Uh hi. I'm guessing you already know my name." As answer, she got a fake smile. "Okay. What is this all about? You said a murder, but I didn't do anything!" "Right. This is about a few years ago, we have record of you killing twenty-three of our agents. Are you going to deny it?" Yelena bent over the table a bit. "Nope, I'm not. A few years ago, I was mind-controlled by Dreykov, in the Red Room. Do you have record of that?" May could answer immediately. "Yes, we have. Agent Romanoff provided it. I heard you were pretty close." Yelena was shocked to hear her sister's name. After all, Natasha was dead. "I- uh… Yeah, we were pretty close. I guess you can say that…" "So, you killed those agents, let's not trail off our subject." Yelena sighed. Her plan failed. This woman was good. "I don't remember any of this. It was a long time ago." She looked down at the table. "Until we find out what happened, if we find you guilty, you can stay here." Yelena looked up again. "Here? As a prisoner?" "What did you expect? A warm welcome and a hug? Think again." She wanted to argue but thought that was not very smart. "I have to find a way out of here!"
