A/N: Gals and Gents, I AM BACK! Just returned from a vacation, almost a week without internet is pretty fun to be honest. Anyways, I will now answer SOME reviews, do not worry, I read them all.
PhantomGuardianoftheRepublic: They could make children, the problem is Shirou. He's very VERY careful when looking at Gil, just remember the airport scene, where he described her breath. Also Shirou accepts other religions and pantheons, but just tends to ignore them.
EnkiduKingu: Thanks for the review. Anyway, the idea is good. It just does not fit the story for now. Enkidu's absence is a big part of FemGil's character. Maybe in the future, when the time is right.
S0lARIS: I am glad you enjoyed it too.
Anyway. For other reviews that I do not have a specific answer to, thank you. Please continue reading this story, I wish to get more of your feedback.
The night was dark, with clouds covering the skies it was only the streetlights of the neighborhood that was lighting up the way.
There's a pair walking through said neighborhood. A man with fiery red hair who looked vaguely South East Asian.
At his back was a lady slightly shorter than him. Her blonde hair and red eyes signify her foreign beauty, her clothes contrasts the man's conservative clergic clothes. Hers was freer and shows more skin, with a biker jacket layered atop a tube.
The odd pair trudged upon the roads of the local alleys. It seems that the young man was looking for something. Much to his companion's irritation.
"Shirou." Gilgamesh called with her stern voice. "Are these trivialities really necessary? Thriftiness is the virtue reserved to the poor, and I am no such person. I highly suggest we search for better quarters posthaste, anything other than this… dump." She spoke condescendingly, with a mocking stare at the houses surrounding them.
The priest shook his head. "Gil. We've talked about this. We'd be too detectable that way, going on hotels leaves records. And erasing it would just take time away from the mission." He answered concisely. "Besides, after this we'd be free to do whatever we want while waiting for the next mission. We'll stay at a hotel after I send my report."
The ancient queen stared at him for a few seconds, before breaking into sigh. "If it was not you, I would have severed your head for even implying that I would sleep in such filth for longer. Be as it may, I shall indulge you just this once." Gil surrendered, rather quickly at that.
Shirou on the other hand, while hesitant, just nods in relief. Gilgamesh's mind was sometimes unpredictable. There were times where she'd grow bored and retract decisions on the fly. But for now, what Shirou said was enough to assure her.
As they stopped talking. Shirou notices their current location. His eyes were scanning the surroundings. 'A small concrete house with moss all over it, graffiti of a vaguely drawn pigeon on the left side of the wall. Yes, this is the place.' He looked at his back to see Gil, who was still looking upset.
The young man just ignored it and proceeded to use a key to enter the house.
Once there, Shirou unpacked his equipment from his bag. Gil on the other hand, beelined to the nearest couch and proceeded to lay down, taking all of the space.
"It is… more passable than expected." She commented, albeit with clear hesitance. The room was neat and clean, its white walls were contrasting the dirty exterior of the house.
There was a couch and a single-person bed. There were electricity too, with electric outlets in each corner of the room. At one corner was what she identified as a router as the grail has taught her. Tables, chairs, a kitchen, a refrigerator, it was all there. It was livable.
"The church prepared this quarters a week prior, they predicted that this operation would take longer depending on my approach." Shirou answered, eliciting a negative reaction from Gil at the mention of an operation length. "Anyways, I have my ways of shortening the time, the church does not seem to know that."
This made Gilgamesh raise a brow, now this is getting interesting. "Ho? Is that so? Pray tell, how does my precious consort plan to shorten his time here?" For her, this was an opportunity to gain some entertainment, and Shirou recognizes that. This might keep her in line for the time being.
Just then, she noticed the laptop on Shirou's desk. Shirou moved his mouse and the contents of the screen changed.
Suddenly, a new voice spoke up, coming from the device.
"Yo-hoo~ Jinako here~" At the screen was the face of a slightly chubby girl in glasses, her long hair was disheveled, her lazy round eyes gives the impression of a person who does not want to interact with the outside world. "Now, what do you want- URK! Oh no, it's you." She gave an offended look to Shirou.
The priest noticed it as well and answered her. "Nice to see you as well, Carigiri. How's that social ineptitude doing?" He asked with a sarcastic tone. It was paybeck for her reaction just now.
"Ugh. You're even worse than Caren." She staggered.
"Pfft." Gilgamesh gave a small laugh, this was new side of Shirou that she was seeing.
"Ahem!" Jinako coughed in her fist as she tried to collect herself. "Alright, you sarcastic asshole. What do want? Price depends on rarity as usual." Jinako Carigiri is an information broker, she comes from a regular rich family in japan, they were aware of the occult, but were not practitioners. Due to Jinako's genius and her parent's resources they were able to build up a decent information network across the world, it even encompasses the mystical side of the world.
But due to its mundane nature, only new generations of magi use it. With the church outright avoiding it altogether.
Luckily, executors were given freedom and autonomy as long as they complete the mission given to them. Shirou uses this to enforce methods considered… unconventional and unorthodox.
"Just one this time. I need info on a dead apostle named "Rathanak", location's Cambodia. Nevermind the fighting style, I need an intensive background check. I'm ready to pay extra if it's as updated as possible." The priest relayed. Truth to be told, he does not want to insult the church's own information network, but they just gave him so little that he has no choice but to do so.
"Tsk." Jinako clicked her tongue. "You paying well is the only reason my services are open to your kind." Her eyes looked way from the camera to look to her right side, the lighting suggests that she has a second screen installed. "Anyway, our archives updated three days ago. Luckily the Cambodian branch updated two days ago as well." She looked back at the camera. "All in?"
Shirou nods. "Shoot."
"Okay! Brace yourselves. This is gonna be a doozy!" Jinako cheerfully announced, which startled Shirou a bit. Making Gilgamesh smile. "This fella apparently runs a child-trafficking ring. Not abnormal for his kind to be honest."
Twenty Minutes Later.
"And – that's all of it. We COULD get more intel, but I'd recommend not doing so. Many of our personnel were injured just getting all of these." Jinako remarked as she looks at Shirou's serious expression. "Kotomine… I know you've been through some wacky stuff. But, could you please think this through? It's not too late to back out." She said with a worried expression.
Shirou looked at Jinako through the screen, silent… as if thinking of something else.
"What is your wish, child?"
"To live."
He closed his eyes, and shook his head. "No, I can't. Never." The priest answered. 'That day, someone saved me… Hair as pale as snow, is all I could remember.' He thought. "I-!" Before he could speak further, he was interrupted.
"HAH!" It was Gilgamesh. She stood up from her seat and was now at Shirou's back, her laugh was directed to Jinako. "Mongrel. You dare question this king's decision? Foolishness is indeed is a trait of the humans of this era." With pat on Shirou's shoulter, she continued. "If anything, he is the most capable man in the world. Why else would I choose him as my consort?"
Jinako, while shocked at first, regained her composure. "King Gilgamesh, I presume?" It was false confidence in her part, right now, all of her instincs were telling her to run… or kneel. The Golden woman's presence, it was overwhelming, even though a monitor.
"You recognize your king's name. Excellent." Gil nods in approval, before glaring at her. "However, it does not detract from the fact that you just doubted Shirou's abilities, thus doubting me as well." She flicked her hair in the air, as a show of confidence. "Remove all assumptions of wisdom, broker. With me by his side, all mortals – nay! Even gods know better than stand in my way. That irritatingly stubborn weed in my garden would tremble in fear as soon as we step even a mile in his abhorrent presence." She finished with a haughty laugh.
Jinako gulped in nervousness. "Fine." Her eyes turned to Shirou. "Just keep yourself safe, yeah? If you don't go back Caren will track me down and rip my arms off." With a nod from Shirou, she disconnected from the call.
Shirou leaned back unto his chair as he tried to relax himself. His eyes turned to Gil, whose chest was directly in his head, she somehow covered the lightbulb with those things. "Sleep?" he asked.
Gilgamesh responded with a smirk. "Gladly."
Pulling himself away from Gil's almost embrace, Shirou stood up and spoke. "You get the bed, I'm taking the couch."
…
It was midnight, the moon shone through the small window beside Gilgamesh's bed. She could not sleep. That is why, she opted to spend the night contemplating about last month. A lot has happened since she was summoned to fight in a pointless war. Atop the throne, there was one thing that exists beside power and authority, an absolute fact that she knew all too well. Loneliness. Enkiudu and Siduri were gifts, they were her most precious treasures, ones she wished she kept.
Their reminders exist inside the treasury, however, no treasure could replace the warmth that she felt while in their presence. That is why they were important to her. Treasures one could not keep are the most precious after all.
"Have you tried looking at the lens of another? Maybe that could mix things up!"
"And thus, another fool arrived." She spoke solemnly, her eyes were looking at the man who was sleeping soundly at the couch. "Imbecile priest, your audacity knows no bounds for inserting yourself through this king's treasury by force." The woman chuckled.
Just then, her ears heard a mumble.
It was Shirou, speaking in his sleep. "Who… wha… plea." He whispered, his arm were stretched in the air.
"Hoh? Curious. A nightmare perhaps?" With a smile, she stood up with only a blanket covering herself. She liked to sleep naked, is that a problem? The queen approached the sleeping young man with eyes of endearment.
As she looked down, she admired Shirou's sleeping face. It was not creepy as the modern tongue says. It is normal for lovers to admire eachother's features after all, she was sure Shirou admires hers as well, there was a reason why she always keeps a big window to her chest open in his presence.
She would admit, his face is… above average compared to other men. But not the prettiest. Not by a long shot. Just looking at Shirou reminded her of something.
"Hm?" She felt a calloused palm reach her cheek. It was Shirou's hand, caressing her face. "Daring today, are we. Whatever, indulge yourself-!"
"Angel… who… are you? Please, tell… me." Shirou deliriously spoke with an outstretched hand. Just as she thought it was over, Shirou grabbed the end of her hair gently, as if admiring it. "Please, who a-!" He stopped.
"Her, again." Gilgamesh spoke with disappointment. Shirou told her about this angel that saved him before that cretin Kirei took him in. For some reason Shirou has a… borderline obsession with finding out this woman's name. She could sense that it was not love and just… longing.
"My name is Illyasviel von Einzbern. The one that would end your life."
He said that that Einzbern doll resembled his angel by an uncanny amount. But her hostility deterred him from asking. Berserker's master was beast in her own right, had her opponent been anyone other than Gilgamesh and Shirou. With only Pendragon maybe standing a fair chance.
"I should sleep." She spoke to herself. But then, an idea suddenly popped from her head. "I could go back to bed." Once again she looked at Shirou. "However…"
Morning
Shirou was in his safe place, the kitchen. It was the one place where he could relax early in the morning. Gilgamesh's shenanigans was admittedly… draining his energy.
Earlier this morning, he woke up laying in Gilgamesh's lap. A lap pillow as others call it. It was…pleasant. Until he remembered his oath.
This day is important, as the dead apostle hunt commences tonight as soon as the sun sets. They would need to prepare as much as possible.
The sun's rays assaulted Shirou's retinas as he approached the table where Gilgamesh was waiting for the food. Said table happens to be positioned beside a window. The sun's shine elevated Gil's presence for him, while the lady was already dazzling in her own right, the sun really did something that made her stand out more.
He broke out of his stupor as he heard Gilgamesh's chuckle. "Shirou, lay the food at the table. You could continue admiring me as we eat." She spoke with a captivating smile.
A/N: A bit short. But if I have the time, there's gonna be an action scene next chapter. This fic is… a bit special to be, I started this because no one would. If people were to make their own fics based on this, I would appreciate it. I want to read it too.
Anyway, I just got back from a vacation at my grandma's. It's in the mountains so they don't have internet there. But- there were pineapples. Maybe too much pineapples.
Alright, as routine, follow and favourite. Review if you can. And as always. The universe loves you, in its own way.
Alaya's a tsun. JK don't send a CG.
