Mex's Dimensional Adventures
Arc 2, Chapter 1: Equestria:
Staring at the ceiling of my new house I blink the remaining sleep out of my eyes. Was Princess Cadance, right? Do I deserve love? Some old, broken ex-guardian like me? Am I even capable of love anymore? Perhaps I need tutor sessions from Princess Cadance and Shining Armour, maybe they could show me how to love again. I get up and sit on the side of the bed.
But then again, perhaps I should ask the Crusaders for help, we've done almost everything together since I landed here. Does somepony who kills deserve to love and cherish life? I suppose I kill because I must kill, to protect the residents of that world. And it's not like my enemies want to talk things out anyway.
But I suppose none of this changes the fact that I'm engaged now. Holy Traveller I'm engaged now.
I get up from my bed and make a pot of coffee before I finish unpacking and setting up my new furniture when there's a knock on the door. I walk over to it and open it up.
"Ah, Snappy Scoop, welcome, I just made a pot of coffee if'n you'd like some," I say.
"Uh, sure, why not, I'd love a cup," Snappy said, walking inside with a package.
"What's that?" I say, pointing to the package.
"Oh, this is the first official copy of the book, the "First edition" of First Editions so to speak," she said.
"And you're giving it to me?" I say.
"Yes, of course, I have my special edition as the writer, and this one is yours," she said, handing me the book.
"Thank you, I can't wait to read all about my life," I said with a chuckle, earning a giggle from Snappy.
"I hope you didn't run across too many problems writing it?" I say, preparing two mugs.
"No, the biggest problem was keeping my composure while reading the notes I had obtained from you," she said, wiping away a phantom tear from her cheek.
"Yeah, I think the part about Uldren Sov would have been difficult to swallow," I said, pouring two coffees.
"Yeah, that's definitely part of it," Snappy said.
"Your story is going to be legendary all throughout Equestria, you know that right?" Snappy said.
"I thought it would be successful when even the Princesses want to read that book," I said.
"T-they do? O-Oh, dear, I didn't know," Snappy said.
"It's okay, we'll sign some copies specifically for them," I said with a smile and then took a sip of my coffee.
"Uh, right, that makes sense; We'd better get going if we're going to make the train," Snappy said, shaking thoughts from her head and finishing her coffee.
We both make our way to the train station, I let Applejack know where I was going on the way out. Just as I had feared I had been approached by a lot of mares asking me to be in their daughters' herds, I apologised and informed them I was already in one, with a breath of relief behind it.
Unexpectedly, every, single, one of them, had asked for a herd merge (Where two herds combine into one) I had to respectfully decline and had been promised that they wouldn't give up. Oh... goody. After a painfully long and short at the same time trip, we arrived in Canterlot and headed to the public library for the signing where, once again several mares were asking me to join herds.
Finally... we got to the event, and I took my seat near the side of the stage.
"Hello fillies and gentlecolts, welcome to the release day of the much anticipated "I Fall, But For How Long?" which is of course, authored by Miss Snappy Scoop's," The head librarian said, gesturing to Snappy to step up as the hoof stomps settle down.
"Hello Miss Scoops, would you please tell us about your new book?" The librarian said.
"Hello to you as well Ms Flowing Page, I would be delighted," Snappy said.
"This book is an autobiography based on the past life, yes, the past life of our new celebrity Mex Apple," Snapp said.
"It details incidents of his time as a protector and soldier known simply, as a "guardian"; This book will make you laugh, it will make you cry, it will cause you to appreciate what we have here," Snappy said, holding a hoof out to me.
"Allow me to introduce you to the guardian himself, Mex," she said, followed by applause.
I walk onto the small podium and wave my hoof at the crowd.
"Hello everypony, my name is Mex, if you would allow me to read to you, the first chapter in this book, this chapter is titled "Awakening," I say, opening the book to chapter one while everypony gets settled.
"I opened my eyes, but I wasn't sure they were my eyes, I could see the sun, beaming down on my face, feel the warmth of its rays when suddenly, a little voice spoke to me," I said.
"Guardian... Guardian? Eyes up Guardian!" The little voice spoke.
"It worked... You're alive!" He continued.
"You don't know how long I've been looking for you,"
"I'm a Ghost... Actually, now I'm your Ghost. And you... Well, you've been dead a long time. So, you're going to see a lot of things you won't understand," Ghost said.
"As the strange ball is talking, I am testing my hands to see if I'm real or not," I say.
"Not long after Ghost finished speaking, a roar in the distance catches the attention of Ghost," I continue.
"This is Fallen territory. We aren't safe here," Ghost said.
"I have to get you to the city," Ghost said.
After reading the first chapter out to the crowd which included the description of my very first death and re-resurrection, that scene caught a lot of ponies off guard and had a few in tears. The reading ended as a huge success and a lot of copies were sold.
I managed to get a first-edition copy for Twilight which I signed alongside Snappy Scoops' signature. As predicted, a lot of mares had asked to join their daughter's herd or join mine after I told them I was "taken" already.
I managed to thank Snappy one more time before boarding the train back to Ponyville with a satisfied look on my face.
While reading the book on the train, I hear a voice reach out and speak to me through the twisting nethers.
"Guardian, there are those that need your help, take up the mantle again and defend those in need," I hear my own voice say.
"Oh? So soon?" I say to myself.
The train pulls into the station, I step off the train and head home, stopping by Twilights Castle first to deliver her copy of the book, to which she was all too happy to accept.
I head back to my house while still stuck on the prospect of deserving happiness. Not quite understanding what was so special about me that I would deserve peace.
"Hey ya Mex! Welcome back! How'd it go?" Apple Bloom said, interrupting my thoughts.
"Huh?" I said, breaking my stupor.
"Oh, uh, yeah great, sold a bunch of copies, big success," I said, smiling.
"Oh! Congratulations darlin!" Apple Bloom said with a nudge, causing us all to laugh.
"So, if it went so well, why do you look like you're troubled?" Scootaloo said.
"Huh? Oh, it's nothing, it's just-" I say, hesitating.
"What's up?" Scootaloo said, taking a seat next to me.
"I heard a message on the train, my next mission is just around the corner," I say, dejected.
The girls' faces drop a little as they glance at the floor.
"But, but, you only just got back!" Sweetie Belle said, clearly upset.
"I know, hence my mood, but, I have a duty to help where and when I can, Traveller only knows which of my enemies will be invading this time," I say.
"And, unfortunately, they won't have effective tactics against them as they've almost certainly never fought them before," I continue, holding my forelegs out for a hug.
Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom come in close for a hug and drag Scootaloo with them.
"Well, whoever gets yer help sure aint got nuthin to worry bout!" Apple Bloom said with a smile.
"Ha! Thanks, Apple Bloom! I guess my trip with Sam and Dean was a warmup, to get me back into the swing of missions," I say.
"Well, I hope you'll remember to call us whenever you can!" Sweetie Belle said.
"Of course, I will! Just as I promised you guys, and everypony else!" I said as I gave one final squeeze to the girls before letting go.
"Alright, I have to go and tell everypony of my travel plans as soon as I can; See y'all soon!" I say, unfurling my wings and taking off towards Twilights castle.
After making the rounds informing everyone that I had a new mission coming up and receiving the go-ahead from Princess Celestia, I arrived at my new house, getting ready to put my things away, when I heard a knock at the door.
"Coming!" I say as I open the door with my magic and see the Crusaders as well as Twilight standing at my door.
"Oh! Hello, y'all! Come on in, I was just deciding where to put my things," I say, gesturing to my stuff in the middle of the room.
The girls walk in and begin looking around.
"Oh wow! I never knew your new house was so big!" Sweetie Belle said, glancing around.
"Yeah, I figured we'd need plenty of space to hang out and for you girls to try crusading!" I said with a big smile.
"Yay! Cutie Mark Crusaders hang out 2.0!" We all say in unison while shaking the room.
"We can help you put things away!' Apple Bloom said, opening a box.
"Aww! But I wanna start crusading!" Scootaloo said in defiance, sitting on the couch with her front hooves crossed.
"And we will! After we help Mex get his things set up," Apple Bloom said with authority.
While the girls start unpacking the boxes, Twilight approaches me.
"Hey Mex, about your upcoming mission," Twilight said, sitting me down on my couch.
"Yes?" I say.
"The Princesses would like to have communications with the residents there, they ask that, if you can, you set up a time when a representative of that world can talk to them," Twilight said.
"I mean, I don't have a problem with that but, are they looking to trade or just introduce themselves?" I said.
"Just an introduction for now, perhaps establishing trade if they get along, there could be so much we could learn from them! And them from us!" Twilight said, getting excited by just the thought of learning brand-new knowledge.
"Alright alright, I'll see if I can set something up after I secure the threat," I said with a chuckle.
"Oh, Mex? One more thing," Twilight said, leaning in closer, and speaking softer.
I raise both of my eyebrows, signalling to continue.
"Did- did you really shoot that Uldren Sov guy?" She asked.
I scrunch my face a bit and give a sharp nod.
"Yes; I delivered just vengeance for my friend," I said with a stern face.
Twilight looked as though she wanted to say something but stopped herself and nodded.
"Um, yes, well, normally I would give you a lecture about revenge but," Twilight said, interrupting herself.
"It's difficult, isn't it? Finding a reason to say he didn't deserve it, Uldren Sov died on that floor, but Crow rose in his place, as a guardian," I said.
"Who's "Uldrin Sob?" Apple Bloom said.
"That's not what he said! He said "Uldren Sov" Apple Bloom!" Sweetie Belle said.
"Uldren Sov is not someone I will be tellin' y'all about for at least another ten years, how's the stuff going?" I said, with a stern face to match, the girls dropped it.
"Uh, yeah! We got it all unpacked, but we just need someplace to put it!" Apple Bloom said.
The girls and I put my things away and we went out crusading for a few hours when I heard the call once again.
"Guardian, they need you now, an entire armada is there, activate your new engine and go to their aid," My own voice said.
"Ghost?" I said, summoning Ghost to my side.
"Did you hear that?" I said.
"Yes, I will prepare the ship," Ghost said before departing.
"What's goin on?" Apple Bloom said.
"I heard the call again; I think my new destination is under siege," I said, turning to face the girls.
"I gotta go now, I'm sorry y'all, could you please update Twilight on everything I just said?" I said, turning to gallop towards the field my ship is parked in.
As I make my way through town, my guardian gear is appearing on my body. I pass by Applejack and Rarity coming out of the spar.
"Oh hello Mex darling, what seems-" Rarity said before Applejack interrupted her.
"Rarity look! His armour is turning on!" Applejack said.
"What? But I thought he left in a few days!" Rarity said.
"Ask the Crusaders! They have the latest!" I said as my helmet closed.
After a minute, I had reached the field where some townsfolk had gathered upon hearing the engines activate, including Diamond Tiara and her parents.
"Oh! Here comes Mex! He'll know!" Filthy Rich said, waving me down.
"Sorry Mr Rich! Can't stop! Emergency!" I said, blowing past him at top speed, hovering just above the floor with my wings.
"Ghost! Activate transmat," I said as I got in range.
"Transmat firing," Ghost said on the radio.
I transmat onto the ship and sit in the pilot's seat, activating the ship's loudspeaker.
"Friends, The Dimensional Hopper is about to engage primary engines, it's gonna get very loud and windy for a few moments," I say, turning off the loudspeaker.
"Okay Ghost, release landing gear and engage main drive," I say, Ghost following the commands.
The ship floats in the air for a second before the primary engine activates and I can see the residents shield themselves. I pull the ship into the sky and throttle the engine to the maximum, exiting lower orbit.
"Alright Ghost, hit it," I said.
"Activating the Dimensional Hop Module in 3, 2, 1, now!" Ghost said, the ship began to shake, and a light appeared in front of the ship, slowly engulfing the entire body of the ship.
In a flash, we were twirling through the void, approaching our destination. A few moments of twisting nether later, we found ourselves in open space once again.
"We've arrived guardian, it appears oddly similar to Sam and Deans's world," Ghost said.
"Yeah, I noticed that too; Run a scan, anything out there?" I said.
The onboard computer begins beeping rapidly and red contact markers appear on the screen.
"Oh yes, there's a lot of "thing" out there," Ghost said as we stared at the 35-plus Cabal ships approaching a different Earth.

Hey there dear readers! I apologise for the massive gap between uploads on this story, I lost the drive to write, and I didn't want to write while I didn't have my heart in it, so it sort of got shelved for a while. But, as you can see, it has been unshelved! This is a small chapter to just break up the missions, so it isn't just adventure after adventure. I hope to see you for the next one as we go to a world, I have been excited about writing for! Harry Potter! See you there!
