Miles found himself being woken up by the sun filtering through the window. He looked to his left, where his husband lay, staring right back at him.
"Morning, Fluffbutt." He leaned forward for a quick peck on the lips.
"Morning, Speedy." It was hard to believe that they had been married for five years at this point! And yet, here they were. Of course, there were other reminders, such as the one that decided to make that the moment he stormed into their bedroom.
"MORNING!" They were definitely awake now! The little bundle of noise and energy leapt on to their bed for his usual morning cuddles.
"Good morning, Reno. Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah! I had a dream where I had two tails like you and we went flying together!"
"Really? Well, I can't give you a second tail, but how about we all go for a flight in The Tempest today?"
"Yayyy!" Aaaand, he was off again, running around the room with his arms outstretched, pretending he was a plane.
Miles just smiled as he watched the young fox hybrid playing. He may not have been his biological son, but he certainly shared his adoptive father's love of planes.
It had been a year or so since their wedding when Sonic and Tails had decided to adopt. They had had plenty of discussions of whether or not they wanted a boy or a girl, or whether they wanted a fox or a hedgehog. However, they didn't even get the chance to visit any of the foster homes before finding Reno. Sonic had been out for one of his runs when he had discovered the pup, hiding inside an old dilapidated barn. He couldn't have been more than two years old at the time.
The hedgehog didn't hesitate to pick up the young fox and bring him straight home to Tails. One of the first things they noticed was his heterochromia: his left eye was a deep brown, but his right was a pale blue, like the shell of a duck's egg. His fur was a few shades darker than Tails', somewhere between brown and orange, and, underneath the dirt, they could see the white chest fur, which faded to grey in places, and his tail had some tufts of black mixed in as well.
The first thing they did after getting the boy cleaned up was take him to the nearest hospital, where the doctors ran a few DNA tests on him. They discovered that his mother, another fox, had died giving birth to him, and his father, who, according to the doctors' findings, was a wolf, was nowhere to be found, so they decided right then and there that they would look after the young cub as if he was their own.
The next stop they made was the adoption centre, where they filled out the necessary paperwork to become his official adoptive parents, and it was there they gave him his name: Reno. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Now, the boy was six, so he was certainly reaching his energetic years, if his loud wake up call wasn't enough proof. Over the years, he had certainly taken after Tails more than he had taken after Sonic. He was proving to be quite the tinkerer, and he always loved to watch Tails work in the garage. Of course, he still enjoyed the company of both his parents equally, and he always loved it when Sonic would take him for a run, although, for Reno, it was more like hanging on to his supersonic father for dear life!
Life had been a lot quieter in Mobius since Eggman had been finally put away. Of course, there were still troublemakers that appeared every so often, but after consistently battling and defeating the might of Eggman's robotic prowess, Sonic rarely even broke a sweat! However, as the years went on, Tails was the one who seemed to garner more attention. His technological skills had attracted a lot of clients, even outside the world of battles. Almost every house in Mobius had at least one gadget in it designed by the famous fox. His aircraft weren't quite as widespread, but they certainly didn't lack in quality, especially since he had made it into a business: Emerald Aviation. It did keep him quite busy, but most of the time, he worked from home anyway, so he still got to spend plenty of time with his family.
Of course, as much as he loved his company, his pride and joy would always be his personal collection. He still had The Cyclone, and that was the plane that he used most of the time, but he had also built The Tempest, a slightly larger biplane than its predecessor. It needed to be, to accommodate the extra two seats, hidden in a secret compartment behind the main cockpit. It certainly didn't make it the most manoeuvrable plane he'd ever built, but it made up for it in sheer grunt. It wasn't quite as fast as The Cyclone, but it wasn't far off! It was all white, save for a thin black stripe along the side, complete with a subtle twin tailed emblem near the nose. As for the aircraft he had made for the others, including Amy's Malleus and The Entropy Eyes' Tantei, as well as a small two-seater plane he had made for Cream called The Chao (Cream's idea), he still saw them in his workshop fairly regularly, just to make sure everything was still in working order.
Speaking of Cream, she had had a rather successful few years as well. Being in charge of the catering for the Prowers' wedding had ignited the rabbit's passion for pastries, so she had left The Pink Rose and with full support from Amy, had started her own bakery/café: The Burrow. She ran it with another female rabbit named Cocoa. However, these two were more than just business partners. As a matter of fact, they were girlfriends. They had met, surprise surprise, due to the Prowers' wedding. Cocoa was one of the caterers on the team, and as her name would suggest, she loved all things chocolate! She had proven herself to be funny and sweet, and as soon as the two rabbits had revealed their not-so-straight sexualities to each other, they found it impossible to look away from each other after that. Cream confessed her feelings after the wedding and they've been dating ever since.
The ENTRO-P.I. Detective Agency had grown immensely. The team had grown from four to sixteen, with each of the founding members leading their own team, and each team had their own areas of expertise. They had proven to be an extremely efficient group, and they had a near perfect track record, with only a few of their cases becoming duds. They actually worked quite closely with Tails, using a lot of his technology for the cases where they'd need a bit of an extra edge.
Ray and Charmy were still dating, although Tails had heard Espio and Mighty whispering that there might be a certain question being asked soon. You really couldn't keep anything from a detective, could you? The chameleon and armadillo remained single, of course, but their job kept them busy enough that it wasn't that important to them anyway.
The Pink Rose had become one of the best-known flower shops in the country. It had even expanded into a franchise, with different branches opening in various cities around Mobius. Amy still spent most of her time at the brand's genesis site (A/N see what I did there?), of course, but she had never been more thankful for The Malleus, as it helped her immensely whenever she was needed in one of the smaller shops elsewhere. The two shop assistants she had hired right at the beginning were still there with her, and they were more than happy to manage everything when she went away. The two girls had been a couple even before Amy had hired them, and she had always supported them, in ways that went far beyond what you'd expect from your boss, so they had all become close friends. And now, the two of them were planning a wedding of their own, still a couple of months away, and Amy, of course, was their first choice for the florist!
As for everyone else, Rouge and Shadow were still working for GUN, and still steadily climbing the ranks. The two had been semi-regular visitors to Tails' workshop, asking for tune-ups and maintenance for the hedgehog's bike, and in one such visit, Rouge had even suggested that The Ultimate Lifeform was the next agent they would consider to run the whole operation, once the current chief retired!
Knuckles still spent most of his time guarding the Master Emerald on Angel Island, so not much had changed there.
Silver and Blaze had decided to move in together, albeit in the Sol Dimension. Although, they still paid fairly frequent visits to Mobius, so they had also bought a house in this dimension as well.
As for Vanilla and Vector, things had gotten… complicated. The prison sentences they had received as a result of their actions at the Prowers' wedding were different, with Vanilla's only lasting a couple of months. However, when Vector had gone away, the boys at ENTRO decided to start an investigation on their former boss. With cooperation from the police, it turned out that in the years since the Chaotix team got disbanded, Vector had engaged in more than a few illegal practices, even beyond the knowledge of Vanilla. The list of offences became so bad that his prison sentence was extended… indefinitely. Vanilla divorced him rather quickly after that.
Nowadays, Vanilla was extremely reclusive. Her house had been vandalised while she had been in jail, so she took that as an excuse to move. However, since her name had been dragged through the mud, she decided to move somewhere where she wouldn't be known, which proved quite tricky due to Sonic's popularity. Eventually she found a place, in a small town near the border with Spagonia where she was finally able to start anew. She still held on to her homophobic views, but the years of solace had made her more accepting of those sorts of relationships. Slightly. There was still a small part of her that wished she had learnt all this earlier, so that she would still have a good relationship with her daughter, but alas, it was not to be.
Sonic, Tails and Reno had just about finished breakfast when there was a knock at the door.
"It's open!"
The door opened, revealing Amy, which was certainly well-received by Reno.
"Auntie Amy!" The boy ran over to her, and she knelt down, bracing for impact as he launched himself into a hug.
"Hey kiddo! How've you been?"
"I'm good. We're going out for a flight today!"
"A flight?! Oooh, how exciting!"
As if a lightbulb went off in his head, Reno suddenly turned back to his dads.
"Can she come too?"
"I don't see why not, but you need to check if she's free first!"
He turned back to ask that very question, but she was already prepared to answer it.
"Of course I'm free! I just came round to ask Tails if I could bring The Malleus in tomorrow for a service."
"I'll check my schedule, but I think that'll be fine. Now, let's go flying!"
With little else to say, the four of them headed through to the workshop, before piling into The Tempest, with Tails at the helm (obviously), Sonic directly behind him, and Amy keeping Reno company in the two seats further back.
It took a couple of minutes to get the plane to a good position to take off, but it wasn't long before they found themselves in the air, leaving a cloud of sand behind them.
Well, that's it! All done!
Before anyone says anything, I'm well aware that this chapter might seem a little disjointed, but this epilogue is just meant as a sort of 'where are they now?' idea, and I wanted to touch on each of the main characters, so that's what I did.
I named the adopted son of the Prowers Reno for the same reason I chose the name 'Taylor Reynard' in my other fic, Game Over. However, after I chose the name, I was reminded that there's a town in Washoe County, Nevada, which also bears the name Reno. And, what is the town of Reno really well known for? Why, air races, of course! So, that name fits on multiple levels! Tails would be one to name his son after a famous air racing location!
Anyway, for once I don't have much to say in this Author's Note, so I just want to thank you all for reading, reviewing, following, etc. It means a lot to me! For those of you who are over 18, I will be doing the M-Rated chapter at a later date, so keep your eyes peeled! I won't be uploading it as part of this story, however, so be sure to follow me if you want to be notified when it arrives.
Anyway, that's all I have to say, so: Ciao for now!
