So here is a chapter in which I use a song from Shinbone Alley which was essentially the Cats before Cats...Both Eartha Kitt and Carol Channing played the singing alley cat Mehetibel and while Carol Channing played Mehetibel in the 70s animated movie and I thoroughly enjoyed her performance, in the movie it was more they were scatting the lyrics compared to the Broadway recording with Eartha Kitt the song is more actually being sung which I prefer
Marzipan had spent far too much time catching up with her family, she didn't notice Ichabod funk until they returned to Earthport, her years as a cooking slave had trained her the first response to any problem is to try to soothe it with food, so at first she asked Ichabod if there was anything he wanted her to make him, to which Ichabod curtly replied 'No' Marzipan hoped he would be out of this funk by the next day, but instead it continued...It became clear he had been deeply wounded on the mission, but he wouldn't tell her what it was when she asked...Instead he responded by asking her 'What can I give you that a Humanimal can't?' And knowing she had to be truthful, Marzipan couldn't think of an answer but it became clear Ichabod felt he was no longer worthy of her love and felt she would be happier with a male of her own species…
She suspected this might have something to do with that Tomcat Kevin, but because Ichabod would not tell her exactly what the incident was, she could only guess…
One night she had a dream...She remembered as a Kitten on Mizzer, during one of the times Uncle Gus was visiting he brought a CD of some soundtrack for them all to listen to it was called 'Shinbone Alley' Gus called it 'The Cats before Cats' as a young kitten, Marzipan thought the music was fun but at such a young age she barely understood what a good chunk of the lyrics were saying but instead simply danced in the living room to the bouncy music…
But now it came flooding back and her mature mind was now able to understand exactly what the lyrics were saying, the song 'True Romance' was about the...Love lives of alley cats…
And in her dream she imagined herself and Kevin as the two alley cats singing this song of rough love
"At last I found my real romance through the process of trial and error…"
"And here go the brute named Bill one eyed and holy terror…" Marzipan sang in her contralto voice
"My skull is ditched from a hundred fights…" Sang the black cat-boy "...And I got little hair on my tail…"
"But the son-of-a-gun-of-a-yowling-hun…" Sang Marzipan "...Is indubitably male!"
Then the two cats sang their duet "Oh what a trance! We'll frolic and prance under the blood red moon! And we'll sing to the stars we're a Venus and Mars as we caper and crutch and croon!"
Marzipan sang "His good eye gleams like a coal of Hell, from the mirth of the alley or a yard."
And Kevin sang in response "And the heart that jumps in the cage of my ribs is hot and mean and hard!"
But even though the Marzipan in the dream seemed to singing and dancing in bliss, Marzipan tossed and turned feverishly in bed as she knew this vision was not what she wanted...She knew that tomcat was not what she wanted! She wanted the sweet soul that was her Scarecrow-Boy!
"You pussies that sit on a Persian rug and meow to some fool for Gru...MEOW Little you know of the wildly life of a Midnight Outlaw's dream!"
"A fish head filched from a garbage can or a milk bottle raided at dawn...Is better than safety of slavery to folks that cuddle and fawn!"
"No…" Marzipan groaned in her sleep "I'm not an alley cat! I don't want to eat garbage!"
"We'll ride across the rood of the world…"
Mehetibel!"
"And Bill…"
Just before the song reached the finale Marzipan woke up in a cold sweat…
So I realized they way I wrote The Rescue of the Mizzerans I don't think Marzipan ever met Kevin over the course of the adventure and he probably didn't show himself to her on the ride to Earth, so Marzipan doesn't even know what a jerk he is, but still knows she would never want to be with him!
