Veruca occasionally looked up and gave Charlie a glance from her all-natural tanning bed, a sunny beach, albeit the heir could not make out what she was thinking since her eyes were covered by her sunglasses, although she did have some sort of smirk on her lips at the time. She took constant sips of her homemade mojito while she looked out beyond the horizon, taking in the sea's scenic view as the lime wedge nestled on the brim of the glass grazed her lips. All the while, Charlie gave the little brute a couple of glances of his own, but unlike the little brute who confidently studied the Good Boy from time to time, he always batted his eyes out towards the sea whenever Veruca made the slightest moves. This was a course of habit for Charlie that developed in him after years of eyeing women from a distance but never having the courage to present himself properly to them. Despite the Good Boy's attempt at being sly, his rapid jolts of turning his eyes away from her did not go unnoticed by Veruca, in fact, she actually chuckled internally just thinking that Charlie could possibly think she was obvious to his peeps. But, as seedy as the heir's glances were, The Bad Nut had grown accustomed to men turning their heads towards her, it was a source of pride for her ever since she was a teenager. Turning heads meant that she was attractive, and being attractive meant that she had power over those who admired her outward beauty. The brat found it amusing making Charlie squirm, and as she grew bored of merely sitting there next to him and planned on moving to another favorite beach-time activity of hers, she decided to let these two things collide and unleash what was gearing up to be a humorous event.
Veruca then pulled a plastic bottle out of her dress' pocket and tossed it onto the heir's lap, amid barking an order, "Charlie, here. Put some sun cream on my back."
As it turned out, Veruca decided to do some sunbathing while she vacationed in such a warm and sunny destination, and luckily, she had someone to help her apply sunscreen in the places she just could not reach by herself. After finishing her mojito and planting the glass into the sand to keep it standing up, the little brute prepared herself to take in some more sun, while at the same time the Good Boy took in a sight he found more captivating than the ocean view. Veruca's sundress was blocking much of her body from the sun's rays, so in order to bronze up, she slipped it off, revealing the blue two-piece swimsuit she wore underneath, something that immediately caught the attention of an ogling Charlie. The Good Boy's eyes went big as he admired Veruca, he was so mesmerized with her that out of shear nervousness he grasped the bottle of sunscreen so hard that a lot of the lotion squirted out and landed on the sand besides them, just because he could not take his eyes off her.
All of this gawking did not fly over Veruca's head, in fact, it was what she wanted, to elicit such a response from the Good Boy for fun, so much so that she feigned ignorance to why he couldn't keep his eyes off her, asking, "What is it, Charlie? Why are you just looking at me like that?"
And, without even moving his head up to stare her in the eyes, The Lucky Boy replied in an almost hypnotic tone, "You're just so...pretty."
"Pretty?" Veruca asked in return, barely even acting surprised as she picked out her favorite part of Charlie's response in order to relive it again. Nevertheless, being praised was what the little brute thrived on, and when it came to being complimented for her looks, she surely liked the sound of that.
While the brat rode a high that came after being complimented, the Good Boy managed to break out of the alluring trance he had found himself in, but only after the truth about Veruca and him hit him, making him reassess what kind of relationship they could have right there on the spot. It was clear to Charlie that Veruca grew up to look more than pretty, she had grown up to become a bombshell. Not just was she tall and had nice skin, but her years of dancing ballet had also toned the muscles of her body, giving her a great, athletic figure. She was every guy's dream, unfortunately, he knew he could not say the same about himself for her; while Veruca truly lived up to her role as a model and former Miss Universe constant, Charlie looked more like the actor you would cast as the geeky sidekick in some teenage coming-of-age movie. The heir could not stop taking a cold, hard look at Veruca while also thinking about his own lanky and scrawny body. And more importantly, he could not stop feeling ashamed at what he perceived to be his failing to achieve the body type of what the ideal man supposedly was.
All of those negative emotions coupled with a lack of courage to properly open up to a woman only served to make Charlie cower away when his female target didn't automatically reciprocate with open arms and affection, in this case, turning away from Veruca, and nervously apologizing, "I know, I know, I'm sorry. I won't look at you anymore."
Now, while Veruca could have continued making the Good Boy uncomfortable with her alluring good looks, for some odd reason, she just did not have it in her to continue doing so after seeing him cower like that. From now on, when it came to their interactions, it stopped being about making Charlie uncomfortable on purpose, all because she did not expect him to be so sincere in his response. In fact, she now found it almost cute the way he apologized for gazing at her. And, while her drive to gain power over someone else by using her looks seemed to have faded away in this particular encounter, her desire for attention could never cease, and it led her to try and get more compliments out of the Good Boy, with her demanding, "Tell me more".
"What?"
Charlie's confusion made the little brute smile as she positioned herself to lean on her right side, accentuating her hips among her other desirable traits, and asked him, "You think I'm beautiful, right? Well, tell me how beautiful I am."
The Good Boy hated being put in the middle of the spotlight like this, especially when he was expected to speak freely on such a topic as the beauty of a woman. He wanted to be honest, but he didn't want to do or say anything stupid, something that lead him to nervously vocalize his response, stammering, "Okay, um...well, you've always been very prideful of your appearance. And now, um...you've grown up to be very stunning. And...and..."
The more Charlie ogled Veruca and her body the faster he realized that he couldn't do it anymore, he couldn't keep it bottled up any longer, the Good Boy grabbed her hands and grasped them in between his as he passionately proclaimed, "Oh, dear God, Veruca, I think you're heart-stoppingly beautiful. What can I buy you?"
"You want to buy me something?" Veruca responded, more confused than ever before, and that was saying much since the Good Boy had done a good number of things she considered bizarre throughout the course of their relationship.
But it seemed like the heir had done something stupid after all, Charlie let Veruca know how he felt about her, but since he knew that Veruca would not be interested in him if he didn't shower her with whatever she desired, he resorted to basically offering to buy her affection out of fear of losing her. This nervous reaction born out of a desperate need for companionship forced Charlie to reveal a little more than he normally would have, with him stating, "Look, I'm sorry that I reacted like that. I know that my groveling scared you, but please don't leave and listen to what I have to say. It's just that...I want you, Veruca. You're the first girl to even give me the time of day in a very long time. You're the first girl to ever say 'Yes' to any of my invitations to spend time together."
This claim that she was the first girl to show Charlie any attention only fostered a great sense of disbelief in the little brute, the heir must have been confused, so in order to clarify the reality of the situation, she asked, "I'm the first? You can't be serious, what about your first kiss?"
The little brute's question seemed like an airtight rebuttal of Charlie's claim, but that was until she got a clear view of the heir's face loose its expression of awe and have it replaced with one sorrow and shame. And, just like that, it clicked; Good Boy Charlie at age twenty-four had yet to kiss a girl, something Veruca would never have even thought was possible, seeing as how she changed boyfriends on the schoolyard every other week in her teenage years. The little brute simply could not imagine someone not having at least one partner throughout their secondary education as she did, yet low and behold she had the anti-Casanova right in front of her, which led her to let out in a frustrated tone, "Oh, my god. You haven't even kissed a girl yet, have you?"
And just like that, all the adoration Charlie had for Veruca faded away, instead replaced by shame and embarrassment that the little brute could not even properly examine as the Good Boy avoided eye contact with his plus one.
