A/N: Some people read this fanfic in Spanish using Google Translate I guess- so I think something has been lost. I was not serious at all when I said Phillip x Albedo NTR, that was a joke.
Next, Suzuki will not get a harem or anything- Albedo is the main heroine of this fanfic.
To answer Jodiak's question, Suzuki has a massive number of corpses from his time fighting the Beastmen. It was mentioned when he beat the Minotaur King that he would be gathering them. That's how he makes so many undead.
I don't think adding Camula was rushing it- two months have passed since the founding of the city.
Suzuki and Albedo were discussing the matter of the Minotaur King's corpse while taking a stroll around Necropolis. Suzuki had been able to create undead lower than level 40 only when working with corpses from this world, but given the Minotaur King's stronger stats, Suzuki considered the fact that it might be possible to raise a stronger undead from that corpse, for example, a level 70 undead. But, should he use that skill right now? Or was it better to wait until later, when he might be able to raise stronger undead, say, level 80 or 90? He didn't know if the corpse would work, but it was a matter worth looking into.
There was also another option- namely, Suzuki could use the spell Create Undead with which, he could raise the Minotaur King as a Lesser Vampire so long as he wore the Crown of the Vampire Lord. This would allow him to interrogate the Minotaur King and find out how it was that he gained such power, though the drawback with this was that the resultant undead would not be as powerful as an Overlord or Death Emperor.
After all, there was a vast difference in the power between a level 60 and a level 80 or 90 monster- the latter could very well turn the tide of a battle in their favor while a level 60 monster would be nothing more than a speed block in case they encountered a level 100 player. But, an undead raised that way would not carry on the memories of the corpse it had risen from- Suzuki had quickly found that out.
So, what was more valuable between the two- knowledge or power? There was no guarantee that they would gain any useful information if he raised the Minotaur King as a vampire, however.
In addition, there was the matter of his other body parts. It was possible that his skin could be used to create scrolls of a tier higher than that which would normally be possible. But how much of it could be used? Albedo even suggesting resurrecting him and then repeatedly skinning the creature for more parchment for scrolls, but Suzuki thought that was far too cruel a thing to do.
As they were talking, the clock tower struck midnight. Neither Suzuki nor Albedo had to sleep, so they were used to working around the clock.
And then, the city shook and there was a bright flash of light.
Suzuki's first thought was that they were under attack, but as he looked around he realized it was something else.
The entire city was now decorated with banners and balloons. Music began playing from somewhere.
"What's going on?" Albedo asked, looking perplexed.
Judging from what was happening, Suzuki realized that they must have triggered some sort of event.
As it would turn out, he didn't need to try too hard to find out what it was.
Some of the NPCs approached him and said, "Happy Birthday, Mayor Suzuki!"
Suzuki was speechless for a moment- before he remembered that in Yggdrasil, one would have to enter one's birthday before joining. This was the first 'birthday' event he had heard of in Yggdrasil though.
Granted, Suzuki had no way to know that it was his birthday given how he had lost track of time, but the city seemed to have some sort of internal clock which he didn't understand, so it was probably right about that.
To think, that he had found an Easter Egg that no one else ever had. Then again, it was understandable why. For one, no one ever learnt this spell, and if you ever changed its location, you would have to wait another year given how time-based events would be reset. Not to mention the city could be destroyed by enemies.
"Happy Birthday, Suzuki-sama!" Albedo said, her eyes now sparkling.
"Uh... yeah," Suzuki said.
Albedo's face fell. "Does Suzuki-sama not celebrate his birthday?"
"Um, not exactly," Suzuki said, kicking a small pebble on the ground. "My birthday's not exactly a... happy memory, so to say."
"And why is that?"
Suzuki looked up at the sky, reminiscing about that one day so long ago. Was it worth it to tell Albedo? Earlier, he wouldn't have, because he would've been frightened to think of how she would react. But, he remembered how she had comforted him after his nightmare. Really, now he had to sigh when he remembered how needlessly paranoid he had been about her loyalty when he first arrived in this world.
"When I was little, I had asked my mother to make my favorite thing to eat for dinner. It was my birthday, so she didn't say no, but... she had worked too hard that day. In the end, she collapsed, and died from exhaustion."
Ever since then, Suzuki had avoided telling people when his birthday was, as he didn't like celebrating it.
Albedo said, "Suzuki-sama's mother... then Suzuki-sama, let us find a way to bring her back to life!"
"I doubt it would work that way," Suzuki said. "Much like the Great Tomb is gone, and the other Supreme Ones are gone, I think there is no way to get her back. And it isn't her absence which hurts me..." Suzuki now turned his gaze to the street. "...It's the thought that she died because of me."
Raindrops began pattering on the street- but there were no clouds to be seen in the sky.
Suzuki felt foolish- he had long since put the incident behind him. Or so he thought. As it turns out though, seeing this around him brought those long-lost feelings to the surface.
"It was all my fault! If I hadn't been so selfish she might've still-"
As he said this, Albedo pulled him close.
"Suzuki-sama, I do not want to be presumptuous but, if your mother loved you like I imagine I would love my child, then she would have been happy to do something for you, even if it did kill her," Albedo said with a sweet smile, devoid of any judgement or contempt. "And I'm sure that wherever she is, she would be happy seeing you happy. Isn't the last thing that she would want to see would be her son crying like this?"
Suzuki looked up at Albedo and wiped his eyes clean. He had not known how much he needed to hear those words until she had said them.
Before Suzuki could say something, he got a Message from the governor.
"Oh... he says there is a present for me," Suzuki said. "Albedo, let's go to my palace."
They teleported as Suzuki did not want to be beset with throngs of people wishing him a Happy Birthday.
Waiting near his throne for him was something unexpected: a Yggdrasil data crystal!
He chuckled to himself, well, this was certainly a better idea than giving single men a mask on Christmas Eve. Granted, the crystal wasn't too rare- Suzuki could've probably gone ahead and farmed one in three days back in the game, and a casual player could get one of these in a week, but here, it was a massive lifeline. What could he do with it? What should he do with it? He would need to think about that in depth later.
In addition, there was a cake on a table for him, with thirty candles on it. Looks like he was finally a wizard.
"Suzuki-sama," Albedo said. "I think we should arrange a large feast for your birthday, not only here but... also for Carne too."
"Carne?" Suzuki asked, surprised.
"Indeed, Suzuki-sama seems fond of them so..." Albedo said. "I think it would be alright to do something for them!"
Suzuki's heart skipped a beat.
If Albedo worked only on her Yggdrasil programming, there was no way she would say something like this. In other words, this was proof she was capable of changing.
That also meant parts of her backstory could change- it was possible that she might stop loving him at some point. But if that were true, that would also mean that he truly was a man worth loving if Albedo had stuck with him for this long.
Not only that, but Suzuki had long since felt that Albedo had only one flaw- the fact that she treated others terribly. Take how she talked about treating the Minotaur King. But here she was, thinking about the lowly humans (in her eyes) of Carne, because Suzuki was friends with them.
Suzuki's heart began to pound faster now. She really was the perfect woman...
Suzuki pulled out a pink potion from his inventory. "Albedo... I want you take this, and unequip that poison-negating item you have, it might interfere with how it functions..."
Albedo noticed a strange look in Suzuki's eyes as he grabbed onto her. "Let's say I want my 'birthday present' right now..."
Once they were done, Suzuki took off his Ring of Sustenance. He had a bit of mental fatigue now, and he wished to enjoy sleeping, though this time he did so while cuddled up with Albedo.
He had no bad dreams this time around, and when he woke up to see it was dawn, he went to get ready.
Once he was done, he went outside to the streets of his city, still decorated for his birthday. Someone cheered from up above, and Suzuki looked skyward to see Albedo riding her War Bicorn Lord- she had equipped magical horseshoes to it so that it could fly.
Both her and the beast looked glorious against the light of the rising sun, and Albedo looked like as happy as a kid who had just ridden a bicycle for the first time.
Suzuki made his way to the nearby restaurant. He needed food for... about a hundred people?
Before, his birthday was something he dreaded, though now, he could look back on it fondly. Come to think of it, now that he thought about his mother, instead of remembering her cold corpse from that night, he remembered how she had smiled at him before then.
The sadness of losing her was there, but like an oyster turned a grain of sand that irritated it into a pearl, it was transformed into something bright and shiny.
A/N: For those of you wondering why this chapter is so short, the thing is that I wrote a detailed scene where Suzuki bonks Albedo which was around 2,000 words. I cut it out because:
1. I don't want this to be M rated all of a sudden and lose some viewers.
2. I know some people don't want to read an in-detail "adult" scene so to speak.
3. I'm honestly not that good at writing such scenes anyway.
Still, if you want to read the deleted scene, you can go to the page on Just Paste It whose url is:
(just paste "period" it "slash" darkpaladin000) [I have to write it that way since this website doesn't like links so replace the period and slash with the respective symbols and remove the spaces in that to get the url].
Alternatively, you can go on Reddit and search for a user u/Drechenaux and go through his post history in the 'Posts' section on his profile. He posted the whole thing on a post in the subreddit r/OverlordNSFW under the title "Albedo x Suzuki Satoru (Human) Lemon", and as of now on January 12th it is the top post in his feed, though if you're reading this later you might need to scroll down the posts he made to find it.
You should be able to find it in either of those places, but if you still can't, you can DM me and I'll tell you where to find it or mail it to you.
For those of you wondering why I spent over 23 chapters before Suzuki and Albedo finally did it, the thing was that I know Maryuma has said that Suzuki would've done Albedo had he been human, but I wanted it to mean something. This isn't a harem fic, I'm serious about shipping the two together, so I wanted their first time to mean something.
As such, I wanted to build it up before going to this, much like how it took a few chapters before they kissed. To explain myself, Suzuki finally does it with her in this chapter because he realizes that Albedo is willing to change her opinion of other humans for him- that's how deep her love goes.
I kind of wanted to draw a parallel with the scene in the seventh Harry Potter book when Hermione finally kisses Ron- she does it when he expresses concern about the House Elves. This was supposed to be something like that, but with the villagers of Carne instead of House Elves, Suzuki instead of Hermione, and Albedo instead of Ron.
Basically, I didn't want them to do it just because Suzuki thought she was hot (like in many harem fanfics)- but because he realized how much she cared for him and in turn, how much he cared for her. This marks Albedo as different from the other woman who might throw themselves at him. In addition, Albedo helps Suzuki get over his past trauma of losing his mother a little, showing that Albedo is a positive influence on him not just in the sense that he relies on her in combat, but he can also do so emotionally and psychologically. Basically, she makes him feel safe in a way that no one except perhaps his mother could. I also did this a bit earlier when Suzuki had a bad dream, so this was building on it.
Anyway, I'm not too used to writing romance, but I hope I got the gist of this across in this chapter.
