A Fool's Bonds
Chapter 5
-Izuku-
Head held high, Izuku walked through the halls of UA towards his homeroom, trying to hide his elation at getting Mr. Aizawa as his homeroom teacher. Sure, the tongue lashing he'd gotten from the man once he'd woken up in Recovery Girl's ward had been rather…unpleasant. His mentor learning he had something as powerful as the Greek Titan who embodied the harmful ravages of times hadn't been the most fun either. But he got in! And even placed first in the entrance exam!
"Yo! Midoriya!" hearing the voice of his new friend Kirishima, a sentence that still made him question everything sometimes, Izuku turned and grinned, waving to the redhead.
"Hey Kirishima." He nodded to the first friend he'd made since Bakugo, noting that his crimson companion was standing next to a girl who was very pink.
"Dude, I want you to meet Mina Ashido." Kirishima gestured to the pink skinned girl "We've been classmates for years now."
"And now we're part of the 1-A dream team!" Ashido cheered, "And don't worry, you can just call me Mina. Any friend of Kiri's is a friend of mine!"
"1-A Dream team?" Izuku raised an eyebrow, still feeling somewhat nervous when dealing with people but did his best to project the more confident self he wanted to become.
"Of course!" Mina grinned, as she struck a pose "With your power as the number one applicant." Ah, so she knew about that "Kiri's utter manliness!" Kirishima grinned wider at that "And my limitless Charisma we just can't be beat!"
"Quite the compelling argument." Izuku couldn't keep from chuckling at her exuberance as they walked into their classroom, some of their fellow classmates milling about their desks.
"See Kiri! I told you he'd be on board!" Mina fist pumped, bouncing around as they looked for the seats with their names, Izuku ignoring the glares Bakugo was sending his way, the results on the top ten having finally clued his Chariot Confidant in on the fact that Izuku had been at the exams.
"I never said he wouldn't be!" the crimson brawler protested, the both of them nodding to the bluenette with engine legs who'd been in their test zone.
"Silence non-believer!" Mina hushed her friend as Kirishima rolled his eyes.
"Everyone, to your seats." The tired cranky voice of Aizawa spoke up as Izuku noted that he, Kirishima, and Mina were the last ones to arrive. None of the others had apparently noticed him watching them from his yellow sleeping bag which Izuku knew meant lots of 'situational awareness' training soon.
"My name is Shota Aizawa and I'll be your Homeroom teacher for this year so long as you remain in the Hero Course." Aizawa continued as the room grew tense at that implication.
"Remain?" a guy with electric yellow hair asked confused.
"The Hero course has high standards." Aizawa narrowed his eyes "And mine are higher still. If you show you're not up to the level that we expect from UA students, then you will be demoted to General Studies and your seat offered to another potential Hero."
"But that's not fair!" a student with purple balls for hair protested.
"Unfair?" Aizawa narrowed his eyes as Izuku tried not to wince at the hole the purple haired boy had just dug himself into. "Life isn't fair. Villains aren't fair. Natural disasters are…not…fair." As the man spoke, his eyes began to glow an ominous red, hair rising. "You are being trained to be Heroes. Your job will be to put your lives on the line to protect innocent people and you're complaining that you'll get kicked out if you aren't able to keep up?" by now the boy with the purple balls was shaking and whimpering.
"Normally, this would be the point where everyone would go to orientation to listen to the Principal ramble on and on with a bunch of long-winded speeches." Aizawa let out a tired grunt "But we have better things to do. In your desk you'll find a gym uniform in your size plus a map to the locker rooms. Go change and head to the Training Ground closest to the locker rooms." With that, the tired man walked off, draining one of his juice pouches.
-Aizawa-
Standing by the training ground, Shota watched as the various first years arrived, including his own personal problem child. "Today, you all will be taking a quirk assessment test." Shota told them, noting most seemed confused at what that would entail "In the past, this would just be a repeat of the basic fitness tests you would have done in middle school and high school only you would now be seeing how creatively you could utilize your quirks for them. After speaking with a quirk analyst before the term however, I've decided to try something different. After those eight fitness tests each of you will be given the chance to demonstrate ways you could use your quirk that would be advantageous to the field of Heroics." He noticed Midoriya perk up at that, the problem child piecing together that Shota had taken his suggestion to heart.
"Midoriya." He nodded to his pupil, "You scored the highest at the entrance exam so you're up first for the ball throw." Even if he was changing up his formula, this bit was his tradition for these tests, and it was staying.
"Understood." Midoriya nodded, taking a deep breath as he approached, muttering under his breath before the cerulean flames transformed him into Momotaro. Good, that form was much more energy efficient than the others at this point and Midoriya had several more tests to do. Back with the row of potential problem children, most were confused and wondering what exactly Midoriya's quirk was.
Tossing Midoriya the ball, he stepped back and, just as he expected, Midoriya had the pheasant peel off from his armor and fly away with the ball, out of sight. Hearing his measuring device beep once it hit the ground, Shota checked it "One point six kilometers." He read out as the students gaped at the smile quirk formed bird carrying the ball that far away.
"This is the kind of creativity I expect at bare minimum in these tests." Aizawa nodded firmly, "Now everyone, find a partner and line up for the fifty-meter dash." The basic tests went by quickly enough, leaving time for his students get creative.
Midoriya demonstrated the power of Kronos and Vlad Tepes, the powerhouses drawing several stunned reactions from the rest of 1A. Kronos' time powers couldn't be used without eroding whatever was frozen, for now, but that was still viable for keeping collapsing hazards from crushing anyone.
Ururaka showed how her quirk could be used for mobility and to life heavy weights off of people.
Kaminari pointed out that he could power generators with his quirk in emergency situations.
Jiro and Shoji both pointed out their quirk's ability to gather intelligence.
Sero had his mobility.
Then there was the Yaoyorozu girl. List after list of the various resources she could create to capture a villain, defeat a villain, avert an emergency, provide medical aide, and a dozen other scenarios given that her quirk let her create literally anything so long as she understood it's chemical composition. Combining that with a frankly incredible level of intellect made it one of the most powerful quirks he'd ever seen.
"Alright." Shota nodded once everyone had shown everything they could currently think of "Head back to the classroom and grab your bags. Spend the rest of the day getting settled into the dorms and be ready for training tomorrow."
-Izuku-
"Man, that was something." Kirishima grunts as they got their bags back in the classroom, "I can't believe I couldn't think of anything else to do with my quirk besides be a shield and punch stuff."
"Hey, that's why we're here." Izuku gave him a grin and a slap on the back as Mina groaned and flopped on her own desk, "And don't worry, I'll push you if you start getting lazy." Izuku grinned, having found through Aizawa and Margaret that teasing could be fun.
"Oh ha, ha, ha." Kirishima scoffed but gave a grin, clasping hands with Izuku.
As their hands met, cerulean flames burst into being around the clasped fists, startling the rest of their classmates who were watching.
"I am thou, thou art I." the voice of this latest form spoke as Izuku and Kirishima started to form a new bond through his quirk. This voice, unlike the ones before it, felt somehow intrigued and definitely mischievous, Izuku almost able to feel a slight smirk to the voice "Thou hast acquired a new vow. I shall become the Northern Star, the spark that ignites faith within one's self. With the birth of the Star Persona, you have obtained the power of chaos itself that shall lead to paths before unknown. But, be warned. You are not ready for my power. Call upon me at your own peril, gamble your life if you so wish, I shall not stop you."
Izuku and Kirishima panted as the flames died down, the rest of the class having backed away wide eyed. "Damnit problem child." Aizawa groaned from the doorway, "You couldn't even wait one day? What Arcana and do you have the strength to transform to see what it is?"
"The Star." Izuku answered instantly, noting Aizawa's hand twitch towards his phone, so use to checking what the Arcana meant "And…this one said I wasn't ready to transform into it yet…that I'd be gambling my life if I did so." Aizawa slamming his forehead onto his desk, sadly, wasn't all that surprising.
AN: And there we go. Next chapter we have people moving in and start setting up friend circles. Izuku will obviously have several friends given the twenty arcana, but I'm planning on Kirishima being his best friend while Momo is the love interest.
