A long time ago Paris was a lot different than how it is today and there is a story behind the Cathedral of Notre Dame that changed the ways how it is today there was a time that Paris was in ruins and at war but it all came to an end thanks to a hero. It is a story of a man and a monster. This is where our story begins in the undergrounds of Paris of a group of gypsies were making their way into Paris secretly but it didn't last long.
one night in the city of Paris a group of gypsies was sneaking into Paris on a boat but all of them were ambushed by Giovanni and his army and told them to take them to the palace of justice so that they can be hanged for stealing until he notices a woman was holding a baby in her arms but Giovanni thought it was food so he decided to chase her until she reached a church and this was no ordinary church it was Notre dame this church is very special to the people in Paris it gives them a safe place from the dangers that are outside of its doors and it gives a connection to god. So anyway when the woman got to the church she banged on the door as hard as she can and started to scream out sanctuary but no one answered her but when all hope was lost Giovanni finally found the woman and push her down the stairs then the woman was dead and once he realizes that it was not food he froze when he saw how ugly the baby looked " ugh what an ugly looking baby so this is the creature that woman was carrying it must be destroyed it is time I sent you to hell where you belong "Said Giovanni as he was looking around to see if he can find something that can kill the baby then he saw a wishing well in the distance he was about to drop the baby until someone stopped him for making a huge mistake it was Professor Oak as an Archdeacon he reached out his hand and told Giovanni to stop what he was doing and started to hold the dead woman in his arms
" Look what you have done in front of the eyes of Notre Dame and now you must pay for what you have done" Said Professor oak as he was pointing to the church and then the statues were all looking at Giovanni meaning if he thinking of hurting that baby he will be punished and he knows it too so he had no idea what to do. So Professor oak told him to adopt the child and raise him as his own. At first, Giovanni was not happy about the idea but then again this little demon might come in handy for him in the future so he decided to keep the baby in the bell tower so that no one can see him and so that he will be locked away from the outside world until he can use him for something and he named the child Sophocles.
Giovanni has locked Sophocles up in the bell tower of Notre dame. Many years has past and Sophocles was locked up in the bell tower all of his life and he hate it all because he was alone so to keep him busy he made a toy city of Paris but it was not as good as the real thing but he was not that alone he had 3 friends that are gargoyles that are named Victor, Hugo, and Laverne that only come alive when he is alone which is most of the time. The only person he is allowed to have in contact with is his master Giovanni who also made him the bell ringer just until he finds something useful for him.
So anyway Sophocles was on top of the bell tower looking down below after he was done ringing the bells and seeing all of the wonderful people that walked past it. This is some of the normal stuff that he will do during his day but this day is a little different cause there seems to be a special festival today and one that Sophocles always looks forward to seeing it every time it comes to town. The festival that is in town is no other than the festival of fools. This is the funniest festival in all of Paris and everyone looks forward to it every single year cause it is the only time where anyone can break some rules and it is a lot of fun. There are dancers, shows, and games and lots of silly and fun times everywhere you look. But this time Sophocles didn't want to watch the festival he wanted to be part of the festival but of course, he can't because he is ugly but his friend's victor, Hugo, and Laverne always knew that he always loved the festival but Hugo and victor didn't understand why he was so upset but the one that understood why he was upset is Laverne. So when Sophocles got tired of looking outside he started to make his way to his toy city and started to feel sad until Laverne came up to him and asked Sophocles are you okay do you want to talk about it" she asked. " I just don't want to watch the festival this year that's all," said Sophocles. " Do you ever think of going to the festival instead? Asked Laverne. " of course I would love to be part of the fun but you all know I can't cause look at me and how am I suppose to let my master Giovanni let me go if I ask him he will be so mad if I asked him not to mention he hates the festival of fools. Then Hugo came over to him and said who says that you have to ask, you can just sneak out and wear a disguise just for one day, and after all no one is going to get hurt if you don't tell him" pointed Hugo. Then after all of the words that his friends have been saying to him. He started to see that maybe they are right and after all, no one wants to stay in the same place forever. So Sophocles started to make his way throw the door he was stopped by his master Giovanni. Who said in a huge tone " good morning Sophocles" Said Giovanni as he was giving him a cold stare. Then Sophocles was sad again and said " good morning master," he said nervously. Then Giovanni walked in and started to search around the room to see what the hunchback did when he was gone. So he sat down at a nearby table and order him to make lunch for him and then they will get started on his spelling. But as Sophocles was preparing his master's lunch Giovanni can tell that he is thinking about something. So he asked him " um Sophocles is anything troubling you today. Sophocles did not answer he was too busy making his master's lunch that was until he told him to make it quick. " oh sorry master" then he placed his lunch right in front of him and then they started to get to work on his spelling but when they were doing that Sophocles said a word that Giovanni was not happy with. " What does the letter F stand for, " asked Giovanni. " It stands for festival sir, then Giovanni scoffed at what he just heard " what did you say, you just said festival, you are thinking of going to the festival. Said Giovanni angry as he started to leave the tower but Sophocles pleases him to take him with him so he just said " but it is not fair that you get to go but I can't and you always go every year" Sophocles questioned. " Will Sophocles you know why you can't go down to the festival cause there will be so many people there that will hate to see an ugly and half-formed beast like you and I must go it is my duty as the head of justice to do so". Then he and Sophocles started to walk outside and Giovanni was telling him how lucky he is that he has to stay up in the bell tower and he has to think how real people or like and he is his only friend. " I also do not like drama when I am out in public official I have to go especially with someone like you and on my dear Sophocles you have no idea what is like out there trust me I do and I am doing this to protect you from the dangers that are out there and remember this is your sanctuary. Said Giovanni as he started to make his way towards the exit but without getting an apology from Sophocles for upsetting him on what he just asked him. " I didn't mean to upset you, master," said Sophocles sadly. " you are forgiven I shall take my leave now and remember this is your safe place from danger and how can I protect you if you are not here? Said Giovanni who couldn't wait to get out there as fast as he could because he is supposed to be at the palace of justice soon and is supposed to meet his new captain of the guard who is supposed to be coming today. So when Giovanni left then Sophocles started to tell his friends how much he would love to go out and see what other people or like and was getting bored of staying up here. " how am I supposed to live my life if I am always stuck in the same place and find someone that will not care about how ugly I am just for one day that is all I ever ask for just one day outside these dark walls'' Said Sophocles as he held his friends close to him and was so happy that he was sharing this with them and this has to be their chance to try to push him on going to the festival. " see Sophocles you just need to believe in yourself and after all, you might even have a fun time and prove to Giovanni that the world is a great place for a guy like you: Said Laverne. " You know what you 3 might be right after all I just have to wear a disguise and then Giovanni will never know that I was there so I am going to do it," said Sophocles as he grabbed his jacket and walked out the door but without saying thank you to his friends.
