JC approached the auditorium and stepped in, stopping dead at the sight of the sea of 2nd year students before him, he glanced around before leaning against the wall as they approached desks of teachers to collect their school schedules for that year, he was focusing too much on this, that he didn't notice another teacher, a giant otter, approaching him,
'all this pandemonium, only existing due to the need to pick up class lists, and maybe club applications, almost like the fictional lemmings, all heading to the same place for the same purpose, if it's going to be like this, what chance to I have to stand out in the crowd?'
"excuse me" the teacher said, causing JC to jump a bit "oh sorry, didn't mean to startle you"
"oh, it's fine, I didn't notice you approaching" JC replied as the teacher looked him over
"you're the transfer student, JC right?"
"yeah, that's me"
"the headmaster wanted me to personally help you adjust to being here, please, call me Kawa" she said with a smile
'a teacher, being so casual with me, how odd, is it because I'm different to them, maybe, but I still think it's more BS'
"pleasure to meet you miss Kawa" JC replied, Kawa giggled gently,
"please, don't call me miss Kawa, just Kawa" she told him,
"OK, Kawa" he said, unsure what would happen next
"i noticed that you came in a bit late, did you get lost?" she asked him
"yeah" JC replied "no offence to the headmaster, but the map he gave me was too confusing, I ended up in the building next door" he added, causally thumbing in that direction, Kawa stared,
"not the one leading to the gardening club" she asked,
"that's the one" JC said, his eyes narrowing "is this about the rumour regarding the rabbit member there?"
"yeah, how'd you guess?"
"she told me about the rumour, but nothing about the rumour" Kawa stared
"so, the rabbit told you that there is a rumour, but none of the details about it" JC nodded,
"i didn't want to pry" he said, his eyes swept across the auditorium, they lingered on a pale yellow Labrador looking ecstatic about the class list next to a tall grey wolf who looked a bit depressed, JC stared at the two for a moment before looking back at Kawa, who handed him a schedule and a key
"here is your class list and time table, and the key to your cabin" she said, the 'cabin' part caught him off guard
"cabin? I thought everyone was to bunk up with other of their own related species in dorm rooms" he said,
'more BS I'm guessing, separating me from the rest of them like I'm diseased, I'm starting to get really sick of this'
"yes, that was the plan" Kawa admitted "but the headmaster thought that, due to your uniqueness, you'd like your own personal space" JC stared for a moment before looking at the key
'what would be worse? Me being alone, with no one to talk down about me when out of class, or being surrounded by other species that I'm not a part of and being constantly questioned about what I am and what I'm able to do'
"OK then Kawa" JC said, clenching the key in his hand "lead on to where I'm staying" she smiled brightly
"right this way JC" she said, leading him out of the auditorium and past warehouse-like buildings, each having a number to them, JC stared at them as he walked past them "the cabin is a bit of a fixer-upper" JC looked back at her when she said this "but members of the advanced woodworking and engineering classes have volunteered their time to help fix it up for you" she said as they stopped, said cabin right in-front of them,
'fixer-upper? That's just putting it nicely, it looks like it's going to collapse from a gentle breeze, and whats more? it's nowhere near the other dorms'
JC approached the cabin and carefully opened the door, seeing the basic living conditions of a student here, a bed and a bathroom "am I able to suggest a few things to the guys who'll be fixing this place up?" he asked,
"of course you can JC" Kawa said "this is going to be your home for the next few years, so you'll be able to do anything here" JC looked at her, then back into the cabin, he looked at a luggage bag right inside the door, along with a few Cherryton uniforms hanging near the window
"it'll do, thank you" he said, Kawa smiled gently
"your welcome" she said "I'll let you get settled in, if you need anything, feel free to come to the teacher's lounge" she added as she walked off, JC watched her go before heading in and closing the door behind him, he stared around at the bare walls as he sat on the bed
'it says a lot when your put in, what can effectively be described as, the worst room in the entire academy, one that looks like it has no power what so ever' he blinked up at a simple hanging light as he laid down on the bed 'OK, maybe it does have power, but until it's fixed, I probably shouldn't touch the switch, luckily I packed a torch, just in case' he grabbed the schedule and looked it over, seeing that classes started tomorrow 'what an interesting first day, I meet a pair of new friends, potentially, after getting lost, and finding a beautiful place in the process, getting a rundown shack for accommodation, before it even gets fixed up, but it could be worse I guess'
at that moment, there was a knock at the door, seconds later, the window fell out with a crash, JC shook his head and went to answer the door, seeing the Labrador he noticed earlier,
"wow" he said, looking around in the cabin "looks like you got the worst of living conditions"
'understatement of the eon'
"i guess, but they are gonna have it fixed up properly" JC said, glancing past the Labrador to the grey wolf who was staring at a tree, he frowned and slipped passed the Labrador to get a better look at what the wolf was looking at,
"hey Legoshi" the Labrador called to the wolf "what are you doing there? The wolf, Legoshi, just stared at a Hercules beetle crawling over the bark of the tree, JC's eyes widened a bit, seeing some inspiration, he pulled out his phone and snapped a quick picture of the beetle, the snapping of the camera app caught Legoshi's attention
"o-oh, sorry" Legoshi said awkwardly "er…..are you interested in the beetle too?" JC stared at the imposing wolf, surprised that someone with such a stature would be as awkward as he was being,
"well…..sorta" JC replied "i needed to get a picture for reference, because, by the time I would've gone in, gotten my sketching gear, and come back, the beetle might not still be there" Legoshi blinked silently as the Labrador approached them
"you're a sketch artist?" he asked "are your images any good?"
"Jack, your prying again" Legoshi said, the Labrador, Jack chuckled as he rubbed the back of his head as Legoshi sighed and gently facepalmed,
'Legoshi and Jack huh? Canines, possibly roommates, and the familiarity between the two of the suggest that they've been friends for a while, maybe they have a few years of friendship'
"i guess I should ask, why are you both here?" JC asked bluntly, causing both Legoshi and Jack to face him,
"we heard that a new student was joining our classes and I thought that we should meet them, so here we are" Jack said,
"you could've meet him on your own" Legoshi said, looking at Jack "but you insisted that I come along"
"come on Legoshi, I've known you for 12 years, and you do need to expand your circle of friends to others outside of our dorm and the small few in your drama club" Jack replied,
'looks like I was right on both assumptions, but I never knew that this wolf would so withdrawn, I know how that feels'
"you know, it'd be nice to actually have a few friends before classes officially start" JC said as the two looked at him,
"you mean that?" Jack asked
"are you sure? With me I mean" Legoshi added,
"of course, I know what it's like to be reclusive, as if no one wants to be around you" JC said "but anyways, the name's JC" he added, gently tugging on the rim of his fedora in greeting,
"well I'm Jack, and this is my best friend, Legoshi"
"nice to meet you" Legoshi said, a bit unsure
"you know what, it's nearly lunch time, why don't we head to the lunch room and get a bite together" said Jack, wrapping an arm around both Legoshi and JC's necks in a friendly way, but Legoshi and JC pulled his arms off them,
"i could eat" Legoshi said
"same" JC added "as long as neither of you ask about my species or the hat" he quickly said as the three headed to the cafeteria,
"OK" Legoshi simply said
"fine" Jack added before moving closer to JC "so, what are you and what is the story about the hat?"
"Jack"
"i was joking Legoshi" Jack quickly said as they led JC to the vast cafeteria, he looked around seeing a few scattered students eating, having the same idea as them, as the 3 headed towards the waiting lines, JC observed a few herbivores moving away from Legoshi with a bit of worry,
'fear from just looking at a large grey wolf? How prejudice can you be? Seriously, they don't know what his true nature is, for all they know, he might be a secret hero'
JC stopped dead, his eyes widening a bit, he pulled out a pen and notepad and wrote something down before rejoining Jack and Legoshi, who were standing in front of the lunch lines, one half for herbivores, and the other half for carnivores, paused as he looked between the two sides, unsure which one to join as Jack and Legoshi instinctively joined the carnivore lines.
"you know what guys, I'll pass on the lunch for now, I think I'll just go explore the campus for now, I'll see you later" JC said, heading out, leaving Jack speechless, Legoshi, on the other hand, watched him go,
"remind you of anyone" Legoshi asked, Jack looked back up at him
"yeah, sorta reminds me of you in a way" he replied, Legoshi giving a gentle nod.
JC wandered around silently, glancing at various students and buildings, he paused before one building connected to the main one, the opposite side to where he knew the gardening club was, seeing a few signs for a school shop inside, he stared for a minute before heading in, passing by a hen who was coming out,
"ah hello, come on in" said the elderly sounding koala at the counter as she put a plastic egg carton away, JC smiled and looked around, seeing the various school goods and uniforms, he took note on the variety of sketch pads and the numerous grades of pencils, his eyes lingered on a display of food items from premade sandwiches and pastries, he approached them and grabbed 2 anpan's and a bottle of water, bringing them up to the counter
"just these today" he said as he pulled out the required money to pay
"thank you young man" the attendant said as she handed him the change, JC bowed politely and left, looking for a quite spot to eat, before deciding on his cabin, sitting on the bed, he unwrapped the anpan and bit into it, chewing it slowly to get used to and appreciate the flavour, he looked into the red bean filled bun,
'that Legoshi is very similar to this anpan, looking like a normal roll on the outside, but having a unique flavour on the inside, despite me not knowing much about him, it feels as if I know more about him then I realise, or there's less then what everyone else is willing to find out about him'
JC looked up as there was a knock at the door, and a following crash near the back of the cabin, this was followed by some talking, mentioning the structural weakness, he got up and opened the door, seeing Kawa with a group of beavers and cranes,
"hey Kawa" he said, looking past her "whats all this?"
"oh, these guys will be working on your cabin" she explained, stepping to the side "feel free to look over the plans" JC nodded and approaches the crane holding the plans, looking over it, it appeared to be a 1:1 replica of the current cabin, but was a bit larger, had a kitchen and a slightly bigger bathroom to properly fit him,
"looks great, mind if I add something" he asked, the crane nodded and JC took out a pencil, drawing an extra room "just somewhere where I can draw without any unwanted sounds coming in"
"i think we can do that" said one of the beavers as Kawa stepped forward,
"as for why I'm also here" she said "during the reconstruction, for your safety, we'll be moving you to a dorm room, temporarily"
JC's eyes narrowed a bit at this news,
'great, sounds like I'll be someone else's problem for a while'
"so where will I be staying?" he asked, sounding casual and curious
"male carnivore dorms, room 701" Kawa replied, pointing at the 4 tower-like buildings near where the school's theatre was, JC nodded, went into the cabin and grabbed his bags out
"how long will this take?" he asked
"about a week" the crane said "barring the weather of course"
'OK then, looks like I'll be 701's problem until next Monday'
"thank you" he said, bowing to them respectfully and handing Kawa back the key and heading off towards the dorms.
JC shielded his eyes as he looked up at the 4 towers that were the school dorms, he wandered closer to see which building had a bigger presence of male carnivore students, he paused nearby and watched for a bit before seeing which tower was the one he was looking for before heading in, pausing near the doors, seeing a sign on them saying that they were the male carnivore dorm
'huh, didn't realise that they had signs, whelp, so much for working it out logically'
he chuckled to himself and started to go in, pausing as he thought he caught a glimpse of the dwarf rabbit from before, he frowned, shook his head dismissively and headed in, pausing near a fire escape map, he looked it over for room 701,
"hm, floor 7" he muttered, moving over to a stairway and looking up "gonna be a heck of a climb"
After around 30 minutes, JC reached floor 7 and wandered around to the dorm room with the sign 701
"OK here goes" he said, inhaling gently and sighing before he knocked, he stepped back to the opposite wall as he waited, he didn't wait for long as the door opened and the face of a coyote looked out,
"can I help you in any way?" he asked, JC stared for a second
"yes, miss Kawa said that I was to bunk up here for a week while my accommodations were being fixed up" he said to the coyote, his eye raised a bit
"oh yeah, the housemother here said that you were coming" he said as he opened the door "come on in" JC stepped forward past the coyote, into the room, spotting a fennec fox sitting on the shoulder of a sheepdog, along with, of all things, a hyena gently strumming a guitar, JC paused to listen, nearly falling forward as the coyote roughly put an arm around him "just dump your things be the window" he added, JC nodded and adjusted his hat back to normal before going over to the window, looking outside silently
"quite the view, isn't it?" JC turned, seeing the sheepdog and fennec standing there, he looked at the two, wondering which spoke
"erm, yeah, great view" he replied, clearing his throat to regain his composure "the name is JC"
"Collot" the sheepdog said "and this is Voss"
"pleasure to meet you JC" Voss added "over there is Durham" he looked over at the coyote who gave a gentle nod "and up there is Miguno" the hyena put the guitar to the side before sliding off the bed, JC nodded before looking around the room
"4 occupants, but 6 bunks" he muttered "I'm guessing 2 others aren't in yet?"
"yeah, don't know where they'd be" Voss said
"but I'm sure Jack and Legoshi would like to meet you" Durham said
"it'll be great to meet them too" JC said, kneeling to pull out his sketchpad, but then paused and looked back "you did say Jack and Legoshi, right?"
"yeah?" Durham replied
"a Labrador and a Grey wolf, right?"
"sounds like you've already met them" Collot said,
"you could say that, Jack practically dragged Legoshi over to meet me" JC said as the dorm room door opened
"who dragged who where?" came Jack's voice as he and Legoshi came in "hey, it's you again" he added as he walked up to JC "why'd you bail before?"
"c'mon Jack, leave the guy alone, I'm betting he didn't want to choose a meal he wasn't sure about" Legoshi said, trying to drag Jack back by his shoulders, JC smiled gently
"wow, hardly know me, but you hit the mark" he said
Sometime later, JC's hand moved his sketch pencil over the sketchpad "and done" he said, turning the picture he did of Voss standing on Collot's head as if he was keeping a watch out for something,
"whoa" was the general reaction from the guys,
"you actually are amazing" Durham said, JC's eyes wandered over to Legoshi as he cared for a rhinoceros beetle within a container
"has a fascination for insects I'm guessing" he said, everyone else looking at Legoshi,
"he has for as long as I've known him" Jack said, stifling a yawn "whoop, it's getting late, lights out" he added with a chuckle as the other guys went to their bunks as JC laid on the mattress provided he watched as one-by-one, the others pulled the privacy curtains shut, except for Legoshi, JC sighed and laid there, looking at the ceiling,
"so, how was your first day here?" Legoshi asked, JC's head turning to look at him,
"more eventful then expected" JC replied "but with me, it'll all downhill from here" Legoshi lifted an eyebrow,
"what do you mean by that?" he asked, JC sighed,
"look at me Legoshi, have a good long look, for years I've been sent from school to school, district to district, all because no one wanted to put up with me and who I am, I've been moved so much" he paused and looked at the ceiling again "that I'm not in my home country anymore"
"i wish I could say that i feel how you feel" Legoshi said "but I don't, but I do sympathise"
"thanks Legoshi"
"it's fine, we better turn in" he said, closing his privacy curtains, JC stared at them for a bit before pulling out his phone and the notepad from before, looking at the beetle picture and the notes he jotted down "a wolf who not only fights against the darkness of the world, but also against the rap his species has" JC stared for a moment before pulling out his pen and writing a bit extra "he enters the fight, armed with a power armour to protect the beings he cares about, he fights as Powered Warrior Beetron" he smiled a bit as he stared at those last 3 words
"looks like I have a new idea to kick-start a new source of income"
