The Velazquest Family
Chapter 2
Leo Velazquest navigated the bustling aisles of the mall, his steps purposeful as he searched for a gift for his younger brother's upcoming birthday. As he turned a corner, his gaze fell upon a figure browsing through a rack of clothes, her profile illuminated by the soft glow of the store lights.
It was Lori Loud, the vibrant and warm-hearted sister from across the street. Leo's breath caught in his throat as he watched her, her presence drawing him in like a magnet. She exuded an effortless charm and confidence, her laughter floating through the air as she examined the colorful array of garments. She was with another blonde, probably her friend and they were both giggling about something.
For a moment, Leo found himself captivated by the sight of her, his thoughts momentarily suspended in the quiet admiration of her beauty. He noticed the way her eyes lit up with excitement, the way her smile brightened the space around her.
Gathering his courage, Leo approached her, his heartbeat quickening with each step. "Hey, Lori," he greeted, his voice infused with a hint of nervousness. This was the first time he was actually going to talk to her aside from the quick introduction they had the day before.
Lori turned to face him, her expression curious but welcoming. "Oh, hi Leo! What brings you to the mall?"
Leo paused, his mind racing as he tried to find the right words. "Just doing some shopping for my brother's birthday. What about you?"
Lori smiled, a playful glint in her eyes. "Ah, just checking out the latest trends. You know, a girl's gotta stay fashionable." Lori then waved towards her friend. "Leo, this is my best friend Carol Pingrey, Carol, this is Leo Velazquest. His family just moved into the house across the street from us."
"Nice to meet you, Leo." Carol said with a smile and a wave.
"The pleasure is all mine, Carol." Leo smiled. He then looked around the mall. "So could you two lovely ladies help a veteran find a gift for his little brother?" He asked playfully.
The two girls nodded and they began to walk with him towards another department store. Along the way, they got curious and asked him about military life. Leo explained as best he could without putting them off. After all, not everything that he did was for the faint of heart. As they neared the sports department, Leo asked. "So what are you two doing here?"
Lori's expression softened as she opened up to Leo, her voice tinged with a hint of vulnerability. "You know, Leo, I actually just went through a breakup recently. Carol here is helping me get through it."
Carol nodded. "Yea, her old boyfriend was a great guy but he worked too much since he had to help his mom and sister out financially. Which is admirable but it doesn't leave much room for a normal dating life."
Leo listened attentively, his empathy evident in his expression. "I'm sorry to hear that, Lori. Breakups can be really tough, especially after being with someone for so long."
Lori nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Yeah, it hasn't been easy, but I'm trying to stay positive and focus on the future. Who knows what opportunities might come my way?"
Leo nodded in understanding before sharing a piece of his own story. "I can relate to that sentiment. I recently had to leave the military due to an injury. It was a difficult decision, but I'm learning to adjust to this new chapter in my life."
Lori's eyes widened with genuine concern. "Leo, I had no idea. That must have been incredibly challenging for you."
"Were you like shot?" Carol couldn't help but blurt out. She blushed when she realized what had happened and quickly added. "Sorry."
Leo offered them a reassuring smile. "It was tough, but I'm taking it one day at a time. And hey, meeting cute girls like you helps make the transition a little easier. And no, I wasn't shot. I actually fractured my ankle and there's still some pain when it's cold out. They didn't think I'd still be fit for duty so they offered to discharge me. I missed my family so I said yes. It was a win-win as far as I'm concerned." He laughed.
"I don't think I asked yesterday but why did your family move to Royal Woods?" Lori asked him.
"My dad got a new job offer and he wanted to move here to be closer to work. Plus it helps that it's a nice area to live in." Leo explained as they continued to browse the sports section. "It just happened to coincide with my leave so I joined them."
"What does your dad do?" Carol asked, wanting to move past her little blunder. She hadn't meant to ask something so insensitive.
"He's a mechanical engineer and he works for a large private company in the city about 30 minutes away. He got a new contract with them and now he's leading his department." Leo said proudly.
"Wow, that sounds impressive." Lori acknowledged. "What does your mom do?"
"She's a therapist and she's moving her practice here to Royal Woods so she can work locally." Leo said. "I think she's partnered with a Dr. Lopez?"
Lori chuckled. "I know her. She's usually over at the high school to promote mental health awareness. She's a nice lady but her attempts are usually kind of funny."
Carol joined her in her giggles. "Last year, Dr. Lopez dressed up like a 90's hip hop artist and did this goofy rap about how talking about your feelings was and I quote 'G AF'." Both girls burst into fits of laughter as they recalled the event.
"She sounds like a riot." Leo agreed. He was happy that his mom would have a fun work environment by the sound of it.
After picking out a good gift idea for David, Leo thanked the two girls for their time and bid them goodbye. He still had a couple of more errands to run and he couldn't hang out in the mall forever. As he walked away, he couldn't help but smile as the thought of Lori filled his mind. He wouldn't say that he was crushing on her but he did like her a bit. Who knows? Maybe one day something more could blossom between them but for now friendship was more than fine.

The Mall of Royal Woods was a bustling hub of activity, where chance encounters could lead to unexpected connections. As Leo shared a meaningful conversation with Lori and Carol, another fateful meeting was taking place across the expansive shopping complex.
David Velazquest, the sports enthusiast with a heart of gold, navigated through the crowd with a sense of curiosity. His wandering path led him into an unexpected collision with Leni Loud, the fashion-forward and sometimes spacey sister of the Loud family.
Their worlds collided in a moment of serendipity, and David, ever quick on his feet, managed to catch Leni just in time, preventing her from stumbling to the floor.
"Whoa, sorry about that!" David exclaimed, steadying Leni with a friendly smile.
Leni, her eyes wide with surprise, blinked a few times before breaking into a grateful smile. "Oh, thank you! I'm like, really bad at watching where I'm going sometimes."
"No harm done," David assured her. "In fact, let me make it up to you. How about I buy you an ice cream as a way of saying sorry?"
Leni's face lit up with enthusiasm. "Ice cream? That sounds amazing! I'm totes in!"
The duo made their way to the nearest ice cream stand, navigating the mall's labyrinthine passages. David discovered Leni's penchant for vibrant fashion and her love for all things stylish, while Leni marveled at David's athleticism and friendly demeanor.
With ice cream cones in hand, they found a cozy spot to sit and chat. David learned about Leni's passion for fashion design and her dreams of creating her own clothing line. Leni, in turn, discovered David's love for sports and his family dynamics. As David and Leni sat down to enjoy their ice cream at the mall, their conversation flowed effortlessly, touching upon shared interests and healthy living.
"You know, Leni, I've always believed that smoothies are a great way to eat healthy," David remarked, taking a thoughtful bite of his ice cream.
Leni nodded in agreement, her eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. "Oh, totally! I love how you can pack so many nutrients into one delicious drink. Plus, they're perfect for when you're on the go!"
David smiled, impressed by Leni's enthusiasm for nutritious choices. "Exactly! Whether it's a refreshing fruit smoothie or a protein-packed green smoothie, there's so much versatility and flavor to explore."
Leni nodded, her expression brightening with excitement. "And the best part is that you can get really creative with the ingredients! I've been experimenting with different combinations lately, and it's been so much fun."
David chuckled, feeling a sense of camaraderie with Leni over their shared passion for healthy living. "I couldn't agree more. It's all about finding what works for you and making it enjoyable."
Their conversation continued, filled with laughter and genuine connection as David and Leni bonded over their love for nutritious choices and the endless possibilities of smoothie creations. In that moment, amidst the hustle and bustle of the mall, they found common ground and a shared appreciation for the simple joys of healthy living.
Once their ice cream was gone, they got up and began to walk around, not wanting to end their talk just yet. David then asked Leni about what she liked to eat with the intention of inviting her to lunch.
As they walked, David found himself eager to prolong their time together. With a casual smile, he turned to Leni. "So, Leni, what are some of your favorite foods? I'm thinking maybe we could grab lunch together sometime."
Leni's eyes lit up with excitement at the prospect of continuing their conversation over a meal. "Oh, I love all kinds of foods! But I'm a big fan of salads with lots of colorful veggies, and maybe some grilled chicken or fish on top."
David nodded, impressed by Leni's healthy eating habits. "That sounds delicious! How about we grab lunch at that new salad place that just opened up? They have some amazing options that I think you'd really enjoy."
Leni beamed, thrilled by the invitation. "That sounds perfect, David! I'd love to join you for lunch."
With plans in place and smiles on their faces, David and Leni continued their leisurely stroll through the mall, their conversation flowing effortlessly as they looked forward to their upcoming lunch date. At that moment, amidst the chatter of shoppers and the bustle of the mall, they found joy in each other's company and David knew that Leni would be someone special to him. Someone really special. Boldly, he reached out and took her hand in hers. Leni blushed but didn't pull her hand away, continuing to chat as they made their way to their destination.

The next morning in the Velazquest household, the tales of Leo's encounter with Lori and David's newfound friendship with Leni sparked curiosity and excitement among the brothers. Johnny, the prankster and cook of the family, saw an opportunity for a sweet gesture. Inspired by the idea of extending a friendly hand, he decided to whip up a batch of his famous cookies to share with their new neighbors across the street.
In the Velazquest kitchen, the aroma of freshly baked cookies wafted through the air as Johnny worked his culinary magic. The tantalizing scent filled the house, drawing the attention of his intrigued brothers.
"What's cooking, Johnny?" asked Tommy, his curiosity piqued as he entered the kitchen.
Johnny flashed a mischievous grin. "Just spreading a little sweetness to our new neighbors, guys. Leo and David made some cool friends, so why not make a good first impression?"
His brothers exchanged glances, nodding in agreement. The idea of making friends with the Loud family resonated with the lively spirit of the Velazquests.
As the cookies cooled on the kitchen counter, Johnny gathered them into a festive basket. Clad in his signature chef hat, he headed towards the door, ready to embark on a mission of goodwill.
Stepping outside, Johnny crossed the street and approached the Loud residence. With a confident knock on the door, he awaited a response. The door swung open, revealing Lynn Loud, the sporty dynamo of the Loud family.
"Hey there! I'm Johnny from across the street," Johnny greeted her, offering the basket of cookies. "We heard about Leo and David's hangouts with Lori and Leni, and we thought we'd say hello with some homemade treats."
Lynn's eyes lit up with a friendly smile as she accepted the basket. "Hey, Johnny! Nice to meet you. Thanks for the cookies. You're the one with all those crazy brothers, right?"
Johnny chuckled. "Yep, that's us. We're a lively bunch, but we figured a sweet introduction might make the neighborhood even more awesome."
Lynn nodded appreciatively. "Well, I'm all about awesome, and these cookies look amazing. Thanks for the warm welcome!"
"I guess I'll see you around then?" Johnny asked as he began to leave.
But Lynn just laughed. "What are you talking about? You just got here. Let me put on my shoes and we can hang out. I gotta know what your secret is with these cookies. They smell so good!"
In record time, Lynn had placed the cookies in the kitchen and had put on her shoes. She had taken a couple of cookies for herself and on for Johnny and were on their way to the park nearby. As they walked, they ate a cookie and Lynn almost moaned at how good they tasted.
"Wow, Dude, this is amazing! They're almost as good as my brother's!" Lynn said as she devoured the rest of her cookie.
"Your brother? The boy with the white hair?" Johnny asked, feeling a little competitive. "Are you saying that he's a better baker than me?"
Lynn grinned, knowing that she had gotten on Johnny's competitive side. "Oh yea, way better. But what do you expect, our dad is an amazing chef and he even runs his own restaurant. Obviously, Lincoln would pick up a thing or two."
Johnny huffed. "Well that's cheating. I had to learn on my own."
Lynn laughed. "Don't worry, man. I said that you're in 3rd place. Be glad that you even ranked."
Johnny smiled good naturedly and laughed. "I guess that's one way to look at it. But do you think we could visit your Dad's restaurant? I'd love to meet him and see him in action. I always wanted to own my own chain of restaurants one day."
Lynn nodded. "Of course. But first, let's have a little fun." She quickly tagged him and with a grin and wink, she began to run. "Tag, you're it!"
With a shout and grin, Johnny chased after her, finding himself really liking the energetic Loud. They ended up running all morning and even though Johnny was exhausted beyond belief, he had an amazing time with Lynn.
Lynn handed a bottle of water as he laid on the concrete floor where the vending machine was at. "Here, drink this."
Too weak to speak, Johnny just nodded and greedily drank his water.
"You know, my brother is the only one who can usually keep up with me. Of course, he's had more experience than you so he can last much longer. But you did good for your first time." Lynn teased him.
Johnny just glared as he finished his water. "Keep comparing me with your brother and I'll think that you have a brother complex." He grinned.
Lynn made a face. "Ew, no. That's just wrong, dude." She then laughed. "He's just my male best friend. He's my little brother so of course I love him. Just not in the anime sort of way."
They both shared a laugh at that. Then Lynn helped Johnny back onto his feet. "Come on, loser, let's go to my dad's restaurant and see if we can bum a meal for free."
"I'm not a loser." Johnny grumbled but he laughed as he followed after Lynn. It seemed that making new friends was both exciting and exhausting. Still, he knew that Lynn was special and not just because she made his heart race a million miles a minute with exercise.

Throughout the first week of the Velazquest family's move to Royal Woods, each brother found unique opportunities to meet and interact with the various Loud sisters. The lively dynamics between the two families unfolded like a vibrant tapestry, weaving connections and friendships.
Tommy, with his love for fast cars and music, bonded with Luna Loud over their shared passion for music. The two found themselves jamming together in the Velazquest garage, creating a symphony of guitars and drums that resonated through the neighborhood.
Milton, the aspiring filmmaker, discovered a kindred spirit in Lucy Loud. The mysterious and poetic Lucy proved to be a muse for Milton's creative endeavors, and they spent hours discussing the nuances of storytelling and cinematic expression.
Johnny, the prankster and schemer, found a mischievous ally in Luan Loud. The two collaborated on a series of playful pranks that brought laughter and light-heartedness to both households. Their shared love for humor made Luan ask Johnny for help for her party business. He happily agreed as it would be fun to entertain an audience.
Larry and Charlie, the twins with contrasting interests in cowboys and magic, found camaraderie with Lana and Lola Loud. The twin dynamic between them interested the other members since they were the first twins they had met aside from themselves. And Lana liked Cowboys and Lola didn't mind being Charlie's love assistant for his magic tricks.
Frankie, the young genius enamored with science, struck up an unlikely friendship with Lisa Loud, the prodigious scientist of the Loud family. The two engaged in stimulating conversations, conducting small experiments in Frankie's makeshift lab while sharing a mutual love for the wonders of the scientific world.
Luis, the thrill-seeker with a dark demeanor, discovered an unexpected connection with Lynn Loud, the sporty and competitive sister. Their shared love for extreme sports forged a unique bond, as they found themselves competing and pushing each other to new heights of excitement.
As the brothers embraced the warmth of their newfound friendships, the youngest Loud sister, Lily, captured the hearts of the Velazquests with her adorable antics. Sammy, the 3-year-old mischief-maker, found a playful partner in Lily, and the two became inseparable during family gatherings.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Loud, the only brother among the Loud siblings, had an interesting encounter with the only girl amongst the Velazquest siblings. As he was making his way over to Flip's, he saw a girl who he thought was Ronnie Anne from a distance. He was about to call out to her but stopped when he noticed it wasn't her. She looked to be about his age if a bit shorter but she looked rather cute in a tomboyish sort of way.
The girl noticed his staring and frowned. "Got a problem, pal?" She asked as she crossed arms over her chest.
"No!" Lincoln quickly said. "I just thought you were really cute." As soon as he blurted that out, he blushed and looked away.
As he did that, he failed to notice that Delilah also blushed and looked down at her feet. "T-Thanks." She said, no longer feeling confrontational. "I'm Delilah, I just moved here."
This made Lincoln look back at her. "Are you the new neighbor who moved across the street?" He asked.
Delilah nodded. "Yea, are you one of the Louds?"
Lincoln smiled. "Yea, I'm the only boy Loud."
"Well that's something we have in common." Delilah grinned.
"You're a boy too?" Lincoln teased, making Delilah blush.
She punched him on the arm and said. "No, you doofus, I'm the only girl in my family."
Lincoln chuckled as he rubbed his shoulder. "Cool. So I guess they're rather protective of you, huh? I Know my sisters are that way with me."
Delilah nodded. "Yea they can be. But I'm a big girl, I can handle myself."
"I bet. My sister Lynn is the toughest girl I know." Lincoln chuckled. "I've seen her beat grown men in martial arts."
"I'd love to meet her." Delilah said, wondering if Lynn would be willing to teach her a thing or two.
"I can introduce you to her. But first, I'm on my way to Flip's for a Flippy. Want to join me?" Lincoln asked her.
"Sure. What's a flippy?" Delilah asked.
"Only the best cold drink in town." Lincoln proclaimed confidently.
As they made their way towards the local gas station/convenience store, Delilah was disappointed to see that a Flippy was just a slushie with a different name. Still, she did enjoy her time with Lincoln. She thought he was cute if a bit of a dork and he was incredibly funny. Sharing all kinds of stories about him and sisters. As they made their way to the park, drinking their slushies/flippies, Delilah couldn't help but feel as her heart began to beat ever so slightly faster each time that Lincoln smiled.
End of chapter.
