Summary: Luna listens to her husband's bad day (Theo/Luna)

A Reason

Luna pulled her scarf closer into her neck, keeping the cool spring breeze off her skin, and continued searching the tree outside her home for Bowtruckles. She was sure they would come if she had the right trees for them and she so did want them to come of their own accord.

A distant crack broke into the chatter of the forest she'd found the little cottage in; the bird paused their singing to assess of the noise was a threat. Luna paid the noise no attention as she continued to move the low hanging branches, humming a nonsense tune to herself. Heavy footsteps followed the noise, getting closer by the second, judging by the crunch of the leaves.

It didn't sound like Theo had had a good day. He was usually more thoughtful to the wildlife around, to make sure he didn't startle them as they went about their day. The birds didn't mind as they'd picked up their chatter already.

Sure there were no Bowtruckles today, Luna turned to face the direction her husband was coming from, the flash of dark green between the trees telling her he was close. "You're home early," she called out to him.

Theo finally broke from the trees into the small clearing, his angular face dark and annoyed. He almost looked like he had a cloud following him.

"Bad day?" she asked when he reached her. No matter his mood, he always made sure to greet her with a kiss.

"What gave it away?" Theo squeezed her hand before stomping over to the step of the entrance to their home. He sat down instead of going inside. "It was one of those days where everything that could go wrong did go wrong, so I thought it best to come home before I made anything worse or bloody broke a bone or something."

Luna gave him a small smile, which he reluctantly returned. She took a seat next to him, looping her arm through his. "We all have them. Tomorrow is another day."

And that was all he needed to off load his day; the torn shirt (he showed her the hastily patched up rip, his household magic doing a better job than she ever could), the forgotten meeting with a colleague, the drink he spilt all over an important minister, the wrong forms had been filed and the broken wand. He showed her the new one he'd bought on the way home.

"That wand got me through a lot," he said sadly, now handing over the two broken pieces.

"We should bury it," Luna suggested. Theo nodded, not entirely convinced, judging by the look his face. "We'll put it under the new tree."

She was already stood, moving to the tree before Theo could say another word about the matter. She heard him follow and remain behind her while she dug a small hole with her bare hands near the root of the tree.

"Still no Bowtruckles?" he asked as she patted the soil back down.

"Not yet," she said simply, giving him a smile as she went to stand with him. He took her dirty hand in his as they searched the tree together. "Do you feel better about your day now?"

Theo half-laughed. "How can I not when I have you to make a positive out of things like a broken wand?" He pointed at a small movement at the base of the tree. "Look."

Two Bowtruckles had appeared, staring at the small mound of dirt for a moment before deciding the tree was perfect for their new home.

"Everything has a reason, even when it's not clear at the time," Luna stated as she watched the creatures climb up the trunk.
