They should not be there.
Narcissa grabbed onto his fisted hand like she'd heard the thought cross Lucius' mind and was trying to stop him from leaving. He gave her a tight smile of reassurance that he would remain seated, that he would stay for as long as she needed to.
Narcissa would be disowned by her family if they knew she'd come to her sister's wedding, but Lucius couldn't let his betrothed come alone, even if the pain of being there was costing him dearly. He listened but didn't hear the vows being exchanged, his eyes firmly on the groom. He wasn't sure Ted had ever looked so handsome.
"Unlike you, she isn't ashamed of me, Lucius," Ted said bitterly, his cheeks damp from tears.
Lucius stood ramrod straight, his hands clamped to his sides. If he moved, he'd touch Ted and lose everything his life had been about. "She can't love you like me," he said stiffly. He might not have put up much of a fight to Ted leaving with Andromeda but he would still try to hurt him like he was hurting Lucius. "And she'll never know your story like I do."
Ted laughed sharply. "I don't need her to. She doesn't see me as a scandalous affair to be kept in the dark. She loves me for everything I am without me telling her a word… and I love her."
Ted smiled at Andromeda like his life was finally complete. That smile should've been for him. It could've been for him. It practically tore his heart out of his chest when they kissed. Narcissa forced his hand open so that she could hold it properly. She whispered nonsense to him while they stood with the small gathering to cheer the couple.
Lucius' eyes never left Ted as they walked down the aisle. The moment he was near Lucius, Ted found his gaze; a look shared that they shared a thousand times…
I still love you, it said.
