The Chat who came for tea

Marinette's heart races as she waits on her balcony for Chat Noir's arrival. The evening air is cool and the soft glow of the moon casts a gentle light on the city below. She takes a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves, as she hears the familiar sound of paws landing gracefully on the rooftop.

Chat Noir appears, his eyes lighting up as he spots Marinette standing there. He smiles warmly, his charm radiating from every fibre of his being.

"Good evening, Princess," he greets her with a hint of excitement. "I hope I'm not too late."

Marinette shakes her head, her cheeks flushing with a mix of anticipation and nervousness. "No, not at all, Chaton. You're right on time. Please, come in."

She steps aside, allowing Chat Noir access to her skylight window. They share a brief moment of eye contact, a silent understanding passing between them. Marinette takes a small step closer, her heart pounding in her chest.

Unable to resist the magnetic pull between them, Marinette leans in and Chat Noir meets her halfway. Their lips meet in a sweet, tender kiss, their feelings for each other expressed in that simple moment of connection.

When they finally pull away, their faces flushed and their breaths mingling, Marinette can't help but fidget with her hands, her nerves resurfacing. Chat Noir notices her restlessness and places a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"Marinette, there's no need to be nervous," he reassures her with a soft smile. "I'm here with you and we'll face whatever comes our way together."

Marinette takes a deep breath, feeling a sense of reassurance wash over her. "Thank you, Chaton. I know you're right. Let's go downstairs."

They make their way to the dining room, where Marinette's parents eagerly await their arrival. Marinette feels a mix of excitement and apprehension as they enter the room, her hand instinctively finding its way to Chat Noir's.

Sabine and Tom turn to see their daughter and Chat Noir walking hand in hand, their faces lighting up with warm smiles. Marinette's mother stands up, her eyes shining with joy.

"Welcome, Chat Noir," Sabine says, her voice filled with genuine warmth. "We're delighted to have you join us for tea."

Chat Noir's heart swells with gratitude for their words. "Thank you, Mr Dupain. Mrs Cheng, your support means a lot to me."

Tom Dupain, however, eyes Chat Noir closely. "Chat Noir," he acknowledges; his voice carrying a slight undertone of hesitation. "It's nice to see you again. Marinette has informed us that you two are officially dating?"

Chat Noir meets Tom's gaze with a mixture of understanding and determination. "Yes Mr Dupain, Marinette and I have become very close. We care deeply for each other."

Marinette squeezes Chat Noir's hand, offering her support. "Dad, Chat Noir has proven himself to be brave, kind and trustworthy. He's always there for me; especially when I need him most."

Sabine, sensing the tension, interjects with a gentle smile. "Tom, please be kind to Chat Noir; after all, he wasn't wrong about his feelings for Ladybug."

Tom's expression softens as he takes in Sabine's words, understanding the underlying message. He glances at his wife, then back at Chat Noir, his wariness slowly giving way to a more open demeanour.

"You're right, dear," Tom says, his voice carrying a touch of reflection. "Chat Noir, I apologise for my initial hesitation. I understand people grow and their feelings change."

Chat Noir nods, appreciating Tom's willingness to reconsider his stance. "Thank you, Mr Dupain. I understand your concern and I want you to know that I will always prioritise Marinette's happiness and safety."

Marinette's heart swells with gratitude, knowing that her father is starting to see the genuine bond she shares with Chat Noir. She reaches out and takes her father's hand, her eyes filled with warmth and sincerity.

"Dad, Chat Noir is an incredible person, both as a hero and as my partner. He's always there for me, supporting me and believing in me. I hope you can see the love and happiness he brings into my life."

Tom looks at Marinette, his daughter's words resonating deeply within him. He sees the sparkle in her eyes, the way her smile lights up the room when she's with Chat Noir. It becomes clear to him that his daughter has found someone special.

With a small smile, Tom says, "Marinette, if you believe in Chat Noir and your relationship, then I will trust your judgement. Welcome to our family, son."

Chat Noir's eyes widen in surprise and disbelief as he hears Tom's words, his heart swelling with a mix of emotions. The weight of his past struggles, the longing for acceptance he had carried for so long, feels as though it has become a little lighter.

His gaze shifts to Marinette, and he sees the love and warmth in her eyes. In that moment, he realises the depth of her understanding, knowing just how monumental this acceptance is for him. It's not just about being welcomed into her family; it's about finding a place where he truly belongs.

A lump forms in Chat Noir's throat, and he struggles to find the right words to express his gratitude. He clears his throat, his voice filled with a mixture of vulnerability and genuine appreciation.

"Thank you, Mr Dupain," he manages to say, his voice wavering slightly. "I... I can't fully express how much this means to me. I've never felt this kind of acceptance before, even at home. To be welcomed into your family, it's... it's truly an honour."

"Please call me Tom." Mr Dupain says. Giving Chat Noir's shoulder a tight squeeze.

Chat Noir's breath catches hearing Tom's kind words and the invitation to be on a first-name basis. It's a gesture that goes beyond acceptance; it signifies a genuine desire to make him feel like part of the family.

A grateful smile spreads across Chat Noir's face, and he nods, feeling a renewed sense of belonging. "Thank you, Tom," he says, his voice filled with sincerity. "I... I appreciate that, more than you know. To be welcomed as a member of your family means everything to me."

Marinette's hand tightens around his, a silent reassurance and support. Chat Noir looks at her, his eyes shining with a mix of gratitude and love. In that moment, he knows that he is no longer alone in this journey, that he has found a second home with Marinette and her family.

The four of them take their seats at the table. Marinette's parents have prepared a delicious meal and the atmosphere around the dining table is warm and cosy. As everyone enjoys their food, Chat Noir can't resist seizing the opportunity to engage in some mischievous banter.

Chat Noir smirks and leans toward Marinette, whispering playfully, "You know Marinette, I've been thinking; maybe I should start my own cooking show. I'll call it 'Whisked by Chat Noir.'"

Marinette raises an eyebrow, feigning surprise. "Oh, really? Are you sure you want to share your secret culinary techniques with the world? What if they steal your recipe for 'Cataclysmic Cuisine'?"

Chat Noir chuckles, twirling a lock of his hair. "Ah, but they'll never guess the secret ingredient: a pinch of purr-fection and a dash of daring!"

Marinette can't help but giggle. "Well, as long as you promise not to put any camembert in your recipes. We don't want the entire city smelling like stinky cheese!"

Chat Noir feigns offence, clutching his chest dramatically. "Marinette, I am deeply hurt! My creations are an acquired taste, you know."

Marinette's parents join in the laughter, thoroughly enjoying the banter. Marinette playfully nudges Chat Noir with her elbow. "Acquired taste, huh? Well, maybe one day I'll give it a try... but only if you promise not to unleash your cataclysm on the kitchen!"

Chat Noir raises his hand, making a mock vow. "I solemnly swear to never use my Miraculous ability in the kitchen! But I can't guarantee against a few flour fights here and there."

Marinette's eyes widen in mock horror. "Flour fights? Well, I hope you're prepared to clean up the mess!"

Chat Noir grins mischievously. "Oh, don't worry Princess. I'll be your knight in shining leather, ready to tackle any mess that comes our way!"

The room fills with the pleasant aroma of the meal prepared by Sabine. Tom takes a sip of his drink, watching the two teenagers interact.

"So Chat Noir, tell us a bit about yourself," Tom begins, his tone friendly yet respectful. "Marinette has told us a bit, but we'd love to hear more about you."

Chat Noir hesitates for a moment, aware of the limitations in sharing personal details. "Well, as Chat Noir, I've dedicated a lot of my time to protecting Paris and working alongside Ladybug. It keeps me quite busy."

Sabine's eyes brighten with interest. "And what about your life outside of being a superhero? Do you have any hobbies or interests?"

Chat Noir offers a small smile, carefully choosing his words. "My schedule can be quite packed, so I haven't had much time for hobbies. But I've been learning a foreign language for most of my life. It's been a challenging but rewarding journey."

Tom raises an eyebrow, intrigued. "Learning a foreign language? That's quite impressive. May I ask which language it is?"

Chat Noir hesitates, not wanting to reveal too much. "I'm afraid I can't disclose the specific language, but I can say that it has been an enriching experience to immerse myself in another culture and expand my horizons."

Marinette stares at Chat Noir, her jaw open. "I had no idea you spoke another language. My mum has been wanting to teach me Chinese since I can remember and I can barely understand any of it. It's embarrassing since I'm half Chinese!"

Chat Noir smiles, understanding Marinette's surprise. "Learning a language is a unique journey for each person, Marinette. It's not always easy, especially when it's a language that holds personal significance. But don't worry, language learning takes time and practice. I'm sure with your mother's guidance, you'll be able to pick up Chinese more as you go along."

Marinette's eyes light up, a mix of determination and excitement in her expression. "You're right, Chaton. I shouldn't give up so easily. And I've heard once you master a second language, others will come easier."

"Yeah, that's true," Chat Noir agrees, taking a sip of hot tea.

"So, since you've already learned a second language, maybe we could learn Chinese together. We could help one another?"

Chat Noir coughs, surprised by Marinette's suggestion. He recovers quickly, his cheeks turning slightly pink as he nods. "I... uh, that's a great idea, Marinette. Learning Chinese together could be... um, quite an adventure."

Marinette's eyes sparkle with excitement. "It'll be so much fun! We can practise speaking, writing, and maybe even try out some Chinese recipes together."

"Marinette, calm down," Tom says firmly, noticing Marinette's enthusiasm bubbling up. "While it's wonderful that you're eager to learn Chinese and involve Chat Noir in the process, remember that he has his own commitments and priorities. It's important not to overwhelm him with all your plans. Let him decide if and how he wants to participate."

Realisation dawns on Marinette, understanding her father's point. "You're right dad, I shouldn't assume." She turns to Chat Noir. "I'm sorry, Chaton. I can get a bit carried away sometimes."

Chat Noir offers a reassuring smile to Marinette, placing a hand gently on her shoulder. "No need to apologise, Marinette. I understand your excitement and I appreciate your enthusiasm. It's one of the things I admire about you. But your dad is right; I do have my own commitments and limitations. Let's find a balance that works for both of us, where we can support each other while respecting our individual responsibilities."

Marinette's expression softens, and she nods, grateful for Chat Noir's understanding. "Thank you, Chaton; I appreciate your patience. We'll figure out a way to navigate this together."

Tom observes the exchange, pleased with the maturity and understanding displayed by both Marinette and Chat Noir. "That's the spirit, you two. Remember, a healthy relationship is built on communication, compromise and respect for each other's boundaries. I'm confident you'll find a balance that works for both of you."

As the dinner comes to an end and the conversation gradually winds down, Chat Noir glances at the time and realises that he needs to take his leave. He stands up from the table, a grateful smile on his face.

"I've had a wonderful time with all of you," Chat Noir says, his voice filled with sincerity. "Thank you for welcoming me into your home and sharing this meal together. But I should be getting home."

Marinette stands up as well, her eyes filled with a mixture of fondness and reluctance. "I understand; we've kept you way too long. Thank you for joining us, Chaton. It means a lot to me."

Chat Noir takes Marinette's hand in his, gently squeezing it. "Thank you for inviting me, Marinette. It was a special evening and I appreciate your family's kindness."

Sabine and Tom also rise from their seats, offering their farewells. "Take care, Chat Noir," Sabine says with a warm smile. "Stay safe out there."

Tom nods in agreement. "Indeed, Chat Noir. You're always welcome here. And remember, if you ever need anything son, don't hesitate to ask."

Chat Noir's heart swells with gratitude for their words. "Thank you, Mr Dupain, Mrs Cheng. Your support means a lot to me."

As Chat Noir makes his way towards Marinette's bedroom, ready to depart through the skylight, Marinette quickly follows him, her steps light and determined. She catches up to him just as he reaches the balcony, her hand reaching out to touch his arm gently.

"Wait Chaton," Marinette says softly, her voice filled with a mix of concern and longing. "Let me see you off."

Chat Noir turns to face Marinette, his eyes searching hers for a moment before a warm smile graces his lips. He intertwined his fingers with hers, a silent understanding passing between them.

"I'd love that, Marinette," he replies, his voice tender. "Having you by my side is always a comfort."

Together, they step onto the balcony, the cool night air enveloping them. Marinette's heart beats faster with each passing moment, knowing that their time together is limited. She leans in, resting her head against Chat Noir's shoulder, finding comfort in his presence.

Chat Noir wraps his arm around Marinette, holding her close as they gaze out at the city below. The distant sounds of Paris fill the night, a constant reminder of their duty and the world they protect.

"I wish I could stay longer," Chat Noir murmurs, his voice tinged with a hint of regret.

"I know; I wish you could too."

They share a quiet moment, their hearts beating in sync before Chat Noir leans in and places a tender kiss on Marinette's forehead. It's a silent promise, a reassurance of their connection even in the face of their separate paths.

"I'll be back soon, Princess," Chat Noir whispers, his voice filled with determination. "Until then, stay safe."

Marinette nods, a small smile gracing her lips. "I'll be waiting for your return, Chaton. Take care of yourself out there."
