Chapter 9
(Patrick has just finished with a patient. He walks to the Nurse's Station so he could begin entering the data from the file that was in regards to his last patient. His mind can't help but flashback to the previous day when Emma gave Sabrina the picture she drew, Patrick fails to stop the smile that appears across his face. Not only was he glad that Emma and Sabrina were getting along so well, but the fact that his daughter drew that picture...he couldn't help but be happy that Emma adored the nurse. He knew Sabrina would never lie or be dishonest on her feelings regarding the picture Emma drew, so he couldn't help but chuckle softly at the bond between the two)
(He had a surprised look on his face because he didn't realize what was happening. He had an inkling on it because of how well he got along with Sabrina and how Emma was towards the nurse, but it still came as a shock at his feelings. He didn't admit before because he figured it was just friendship, a friendship like with Elizabeth Webber. But a smile slowly spread across his face as he realized Epiphany, Elizabeth, Felix, and everyone else who made little comments about it were saying all along and he had to admit they were true...Patrick was starting to fall for Sabrina Santiago. He was starting to fall in love with her)
(He looked confused as he wondered to himself how he could not have seen it. Sabrina has been standing right in front of him this whole time and he was pretty sure she felt the same way. Well, he thought so, anyway because of the way she would act towards him. Granted, she could've just been being nice, but he got the feeling it was more than that. He witnessed the looks Sabrina would try to privately give him as well as the little tidbits those close to him would say)
(Patrick felt like an idiot to say the least because he didn't see what was going on right in front of his face. But the more he thought about it, the more he should have seen the signs. Sabrina went out of her way to help him and be there for Emma. Patrick knew Sabrina and Emma loved each other and that picture Emma drew proved it. Now, he had to figure out what to do next. Does he confront Sabrina about everything? Does he ask Felix, Elizabeth, and Epiphany for inside information? He realized full well that wasn't fair of him to do that because if Sabrina did that to him, it would probably piss him off. Or would he be flattered as he tilts his head while he ponders that question)
(He then thought of asking them if Sabrina ever asked about him. He sighs deeply as he briefly closes his eyes. He was beginning to sound like a teenager wondering how a girl feels about him. He shook his head in frustration because he felt everything he was thinking was absurd. He's done this before where he was man enough to confront the person on their feelings. That person he confronted was his wife that passed away. Yes, he was man enough to talk to Robin, but could he do that again? Could he have the courage again to talk to Sabrina about their feelings? He didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable, but the way it was so easy for them to be around each other, he had a feeling it would go okay)
(He rolled his eyes as he knew what Epiphany, Elizabeth, and Felix would say on his dilemma. They would tell him to get over himself and his insecurities and do something. As much as he would be angry of them stepping in, he couldn't blame them. He was Dr. Patrick Drake. A brilliant surgeon and great father. At least that's what he was told. But when it came time to open up his feelings for Nurse Sabrina Santiago, he wasn't sure he could do it. They would probably say he was a wimp because of it. If he were really honest with himself about it, he would admit that maybe he was a wimp)
(He needed to ask himself if he was ready to put himself out there again and possible have another relationship. His thought are interrupted by Elizabeth's voice)
Liz: "Having a hard time concentrating?"
(Patrick looks at the computer before facing her in surpisement. His eyes are wide open and he attempts to hide his nervousness)
Patrick: "W-What? What did you say?"
Liz: (chuckles) "I said, 'having a hard time concentrating?"
(Elizabeth observes Patrick's uneasiness and can't help but smirk at her friends' expense)
Liz: "You know, if I didn't know any better, I'd say something was on your mind."
(Elizabeth goes closer to him and whispers in his ear)
Liz: "Or someone."
(Patrick swallows loudly as it's clear Elizabeth's teasing is affecting him. She glances at him and can't help the laugh that comes out of her mouth)
Liz: "She's really gotten to you, hasn't she?"
(Patrick looks at her weirdly)
Patrick: "Who are you talking about?"
(Elizabeth looks at him before rolling her eyes playfully)
Liz: "Oh, please, Dr. Drake, like you don't know."
(Elizabeth studies his questionable look and can't tell if he is in daze or genuinely confused, so she realized she has to spell it out)
Liz: (sighs) "Does the name Sabrina Santiago ring a bell?"
Patrick: (chuckles nervously) "Yes, her name rings a bell."
Liz: (laughs) "Her name should ring a bell. It's obvious you like her, Patrick, and I'm not talking about on hte friendship level."
(Patrick composes himself and chuckles softly)
Patrick: "I'm just now sure she feels the same way towards me. For all I know, she doesn't feel the same way."
(Elizabeth looks at her friend and can tell he is genuinely conflicted on what to do. She turns to him and gently turns him as well so they're facing each other)
Liz: "Obviously, I don't want to break Sabrina's confidence, but I will say this...she won't embarrass you with your confession."
(Patrick gets the picture when he nods. He smiles briefly)
Patrick: "Thanks, Liz."
Liz: (cheerfully) "Anytime." (smirks) "Trust me, everything will work out." (smirks) "Now, go get her, Dr. Drake. You two deserve to be happy...together."
(Patrick can't help but smile at his friends' positiveness on the situation. But he also knew she was right. He nods before walking away from Liz and goes to search for Sabrina. A part of him was nervous about when he finds her, but the other part all of a sudden felt brave as he was ready to put his heart on the line)
(He walks down the hall and gets frustrated when he can't find Sabrina. He breathes a huge sigh of relief when he sees her coming out of an exam room with a patient)
Sabrina: (smiles) "Your tests were very well. Thank you for coming in."
Female patient: (smiles) "Thank you for seeing me on such short notice."
Sabrina: "Well, technically, the doctor gave you the results. I was just a friendly helper."
Female patient: (shakes her head) "No, you went out of your way, Nurse Santiago, and I appreciate it. Yes, the doctor may have been there, but your kindness and support, it really helped."
Sabrina: (smiles & nods) "Well, I was just doing my job, but you are very welcome, ma'am."
(The female patient sees Dr. Drake and smiles cheerfully at him)
Female patient: "You have a fantastic nurse on your staff, Dr. Drake. Don't ever let her go."
(Patrick smiles tenderly at Sabrina)
Patrick: "Don't worry, ma'am. I don't intend to. She will be part of his hospital for a long time." (under his breath) "And hopefully a part of mine, too."
(The patient and Sabrina share one last smile before the patient departs. The doctor and the nurse look at each other)
Patrick: (chuckles softly) "You were very good with that patient."
Sabrina: (smiles) "Thank you." (shrugs) "But I was just doing my job."
(Patrick touches her arm, which she notices)
Patrick: "No, it's more than that. I've been watching you, Sabrina, ever since you first started. You have really done well here." (smiles tenderly) "Everyone loves you."
(Sabrina blushes as she looks down)
Sabrina: "Well, I don't know about that, but thank you. It means a lot, especially coming from you."
(Patrick swallows loudly again as he gathers up the courage to ask his next question)
Patrick: "I have a question for you."
Sabrina: (nods) "Okay."
Patrick: (chuckles nervously) "It's, uh, it's something I've been wondering for a little while now." (shrugs) "I guess you could say I didn't even realize I was wondering it until recently."
(Sabrina turns her head slightly as she looks at him in confusion)
Sabrina: "O-kay. What's up?"
Patrick: (clears his throat) "The question I wanted to ask you was..."
What'd you think? As you could see, I wanted to end this on a cliffhanger. lol. Do you think Patrick will have a chance to ask her a question regarding their 'relationship' or do you think they will get interrupted? In this hospital, you never know. Thank you who take the time to review, follow, and favorite. Until next time!
