Scream V (2022) My Version
Chapter Thirteen: Dewey's Help
With her parents and sister asleep, Sam decided to get up earlier and leave out of hospital. She needed help to figure out what was going on and why. She needed an expert who's dealt with ghost face before. Her parents told her that this person was Dewey Riley. She learned from one of the deputies that Dewey frequents the diner in the morning and pool hall in the evening. She got Richie awake to go with her.
Both pull up to tthe diner and get out of the car. There they spot Dewey sitting at his normal table and head in. They walk up to his table hoping to talk to him. Dewey was reading the news paper. Something he does every morning. He use to watch Gale's morning program but stopped because it was too painful.
"Excuse me. Dewey Riley?" Sam asked cautiously. Dewey looked up at her and Richie.
"Who's asking?" Dewey asked.
"I'm Sam Carpenter. My sister Tara was attacked a couple of nights ago. Then I was attacked." Sam said.
"I'm sorry to hear that. How are you and Tara doing?" Dewey asked.
"She's recovering and I'm doing better thanks." Sam said nervously.
"Good." Dewey said. He noticed she and Richie didn't move. He could tell she wanted to talk to him so he asked. "Is there anything else?" He asked.
"Well, I was hoping to talk to you about what happened." Sam said. Dewey was hesitant for a moment but signaled for them to sit. Both took a seat across from him. "So what can I do for you?" He asked.
"My sister was stabbed seven times by Ghostface. I know you know what that's like. I just want to keep my family safe." Sam said to him. Dewey's eyes flinched. He thought to his photo album. His sister, Tatum. Sam looks at him pleading. "Five minutes, that's all I'm asking." Dewey looks at her, considering.
"You have three." Dewey said not sure what to make of the situation. "Who's he?"
"My boyfriend." Sam said.
"How long have you known him?" Dewey asked.
"Six months. Why?" Sam responds wondering why he'd ask this question. Dewey rolls his eyes at this. "What?"
"Did he know about your family when you met? Express any interest in Woodsboro or the Ghostface killings?" Dewey asked.
"What the hell are you talking about-" Richie asks offended.
"Your killer's obsessed with the Stab movies, right?" Dewey asked takes a drink of his coffee. "Well there are certain rules to surviving a Stab movie, believe me, I know. Rule number one, never trust the love interest. They seem sweet, they seem great, and then in the third act they try and rip your head off." Dewey continues.
"I was with Sam in Modesto when Tara was attacked-" Richie said defending himself.
"And let me guess, you were in the next room and completely unaccounted for when she was attacked in the hospital?" Dewey asked Richie not trusting him at all.
Richie turns to Sam.
"Do I really have to take this from shitty Sam Elliot over here?" Richie asked
"Rule number two, the killer's motive always has something to do with the past. Randy killed everyone because of his infatuation with Sid. Then his mom killed everyone 'cause of Randy. The point is, this stuff is always rooted in something from back in the past." Dewey continues.
"I'm not related to Randy Meeks, neither is Tara. The only ones related to Randy Meeks is his niece and nephew Chad and Mindy. So this makes no sense-" Sam said.
"But then why kill that random Vince guy? It doesn't fit the profile-" Richie asked.
"As well as that other teen." Sam said. "What was his name?"
"David Dukesford." Dewey answers.
"Yeah him. He's not from woodsboro is he?"
"No but his aunt and uncle are." Dewey said. Sam and Richie look at him wondering who he was talking about. "The Beckers." Both Sam and Richie nod.
"How do we figure this out?" Sam asked.
"That's your job to figure out. And Rule number three and this is the most important, the first victim always has a friend group that the killer is a part of. Does your sister have a close-knit group of friends?" Dewey asked. Sam and Richie exchange a look.
"She does." Sam said realizing it could be one of her sister's friends doing this.
"Then that's where you'll find the killer. Maybe it's the nice one, maybe the funny one, maybe the quirky one - any and all of them could be your murderer. You find out why they're doing this, you can figure out who's next." Dewey explained. He goes for another sip of his coffee. Sam watches him taking in everything he said.
"So help us. Help us figure out who's behind this-" Sam asks.
"You're kidding, right? I've been stabbed eleven times, almost died twice. I have permanent nerve damage and a fun little limp. You think I want go through it again?" Dewey said.
It always goes back to the past, right? If I'm in danger, you're in danger. So let's do this together." Sam asked trying to convince him. "If not me then work with my dad Ben Carpenter. He and my mom have been at the hospital watching over my sister. Please help us." She asks almost begging.
Dewey stares at her for a moment. As if considering. Ben Carpenter. The name sounded familiar. He knew Christine because she and Ben went to school with Sid and Billy. Then:
"Your time's up. Scoot." Dewey says going to back to read his paper.
Sam exhales. Heads for the door. Richie follows.
"Yeah, he's way more fun in the movies. What's next?" Richie said.
"The friends." Sam says. "We gotta talk to Mindy and Chad." She explains.
Back inside of the diner, Dewey takes another sip of his coffee. Thinking of his old holster and gun hang on the wall of his trailer. He thinks about going home to get it. He finishes his coffee. Then leaves. He gets into his truck and stops a moment. He took out his cellphone and goes to the favorites section of the call log. A specific name comes up. He presses the button.
In a beautiful suburban home in San Diego, the home is a bit chaotic. This is the home of the Loomis'. This is home to Billy, Sidney, Jill, Robbie, Scott, William and the youngest member of the Loomis clan Sean. Sidney had become a published author having written several more books.
Billy had started a private investigator company and expanded his company to several places across the country and is doing well for himself and his family.
Jill had graduated from college with a law degree and is currently in law school.
Robbie graduated college with a degree in architecture. He got hired to work for a prestigious construction company. Both he and Jill are still together and are engaged to get married.
Both William and Scott are nineteen years old and are freshmens at San Diego University. Both live at home due to the fact that there were no vacancies on campus.
Both Billy and Sidney welcomed a son they named Sean. Here's six years old. He was born after the events of 2011. Now it's seven years later. Sidney didn't think she could get pregnant after being stabbed but there Sean was.
Billy helps his six year-old put on his sneakers, trying to get him ready for school. William and Scott are getting their books together for their classes. Jill made a big breakfast for everyone. Robbie is getting his paper work together for work. Much giggling is occurring.
Chaotic domestic bliss. The phone rings. The mom picks up her cordless phone in the kitchen. And as she answers.
"Hello?" Sidney Prescott'Loomis answers. She, Billy, Jill and Robbie had to get past the fear that every time their phone rings somehow it would be ghost face calling.
Sidney Prescott'Loomis. Beautiful as ever. But different somehow. At peace. The victim no more. As unkind as life has been to Dewey, it's been kind to Sid.
"Hey, Sid. It's me." Dewey said to her.
"Dewey? Oh my God! How long has it been? I haven't-" Sidney says but sees Sean playing with his food. "Sean eat your food." She said before the boy stops playing with his food and eats his breakfast. "Sorry, we're trying and failing to get the kids out the door for school. How are you?"
Dewey looks around at his surroundings and lies.
"Good. Really good. How's Billy and my nephews?" Dewey asked. Sidney smiles as she looks over at her husband, who is sitting eating breakfast. Taking the cordless phone Sidney goes to sit down with them.
"Who's that?" Scott asked.
"It's uncle Dewey." William said. "Hey uncle Dewey!" He said yelling so he can be heard.
"Hey Uncle Dewey?" Scott yelled.
"Uncle Dewey came the little voice of six year old Sean.
"Hey Dewey." Came the voices of Billy, Jill and Robbie.
"Yeah hear them?" Sidney asked smiling.
"Yeah tell'em I said hi." Dewey said smiling.
"He says hi." Sidney said.
"How are things in the Sheriff business?" She asked unaware that he's retired.
"They're- they're okay. But Sid-" Dewey starts to say.
"Have you talked to Gale recently?" Sidney asked. Dewey swallows. She hears this. "What is it?"
"A few months. You?" Dewey answers ignoring her second question.
"Not since her big promotion. She was supposed to be out here last year, but then they had to go cover a hurricane or something." Sidney says as she takes a bite of her eggs. "I know it didn't end well with you guys, but-"
"It's happening again, Sid." Dewey said cutting her off. Sidney goes very still at this. Everyone at the table notice this.
"What is it sis." Jill asked.
"Baby." Billy calls to her. Sidney doesn't answer them.
"What are you talking about?" Sidney asked.
"Some idiot in a Ghostface mask. Four attacks so far, two dead. But something about this one feels different-" Dewey said to her.
"Are you okay?" Sidney asked.
"You know me, Sid." Dewey said.
"Yeah, I do. That's why I'm asking." Sidney said to him. Billy and Jill eye Sidney wondering what was wrong. Robbie, William and Scott share a look with each other. The only one who continues to eat his food is Sean.
"I'm fine. I just wanted you to hear it from me and not on the news. I want you to be safe up there. Do you have a gun?" Dewey asked.
"Dewey, it's me. Of course I have a fucking gun." Sidney said as this gets the attention of everyone in the room. Dewey smiles despite himself. "Does Gale know?"
"She's my next call. But Sid, promise me, no matter what happens or what you see on the news, don't come here."
"No offense, Dewey, but I wouldn't go back to Woodsboro if you paid me. My family and I are never setting foot in that town again." Sidney said.
"Good. That's good." Dewey said. Sidney frowns at the tremble in his voice.
"Whoever this killer's after, I'm glad they have you to protect them. Just make sure you stay safe." Sidney said.
Oof. Dewey slumps. Barely manages to respond.
"Will do." Dewey said to her.
"It's good to hear your voice, Dewey." Sidney said to him.
"Yeah, you too. I'll speak to you later ok." Dewey said.
"Ok." Sidney said. "Bye." He hangs up before saying goodbye. Too hard for him. Sidney eyes the phone before getting up from the table to place the cordless phone in its station. "Shit." She curses.
"Oooh mom said a swear word." Sean said.
"Mom can swear she's an adult." Scott said.
"Mom what is it?" William asked.
"What did Dewey say?" Billy asked. Sidney didn't know how to respond. How does she tell her husband and children not to mention her sister that ghost face is back? She decided against her better judgment just to be honest.
"Dewey was warning us to not come to woodsboro because he thinks ghostface maybe making another appearance." Sidney said. The room fell silent with the exception of Sean who has no idea who ghost face is as this knowledge was kept from him.
"Who's ghost face?" He asked innocently.
Note: fyi, this takes place in 2018.
