Scream V (2022) My Version
Chapter Twenty-One: Return Of Billy & Sidney
Richie, Sam and Tara get down to the lobby. Sam had already alerted the police to the incident that took place moments ago. Tara was in her wheelchair crying thanking god that her sister was there to save her. They don't know what happened to Dewey but realize it isn't good.
Everything is silent, impressionistic. The parking lot bathed in the blue and red of police lights.
Soon, police presence covers the hospital. Gale arrives at the hospital as well. She has a bad feeling about this. Gale gets out of her camera crew's van. Knows something is terribly wrong. Her eyes are drawn across the lot to a black bag.
A body bag is being loaded into the back of a coroner's wagon. She moves towards it, pace quickening with each step. Sam and Richie step into her path... and she knows. She tries to get past them. They hold her back. She shouldn't see this.
Gale screams. Collapses to her knees. There will never be a chance to say all the things she should have said. The door of the wagon slams shut.
"SAM!!! TARA!!!" Came the screaming voice of Christine. Ben was right behind her. Richie held Gale who was crying in his arms. He moves her over to the seats in the lobby.
"MOMMY, PAPI!" Tara said as they hugged their daughters.
"Are you girls ok?" Ben asked.
"We are now." Sam said.
"I was so scared mom." Tara said to her as Christine hugged her daughter.
"Where were you guys?" Sam asked. "I tried calling you." She was worried about them as well as Tara.
"Sam." Christine starts to say.
"No I need you to tell me. The sheriff and her son was murdered and all the police were at the crime scene. No one was protecting Tara. I thought she might be in danger. I was right. I thought you guys could be in danger as well that's why I called. You two could've been dead and I wouldn't have known!" Sam said forcing back tears. "Now Dewey is dead and it could've been y'all." She said trying to calm herself. Ben rubs her shoulder.
"We left to get some fresh air and some food. Tara was watching tv and there were staff there when we left. We didn't think anything of it. We were on our way back." Ben said. "We're sorry we scared you chica." He kisses her forehead.
As the night looms, the police activity continues to move through the hospital gathering as much evidence as possible. They took Sam, Tara's and Richie's statements. Tara and spent the rest of the night in the emergency room. Ben, Christine, Sam and Richie were with her. She was exhausted. Ben had been allowed to go with a deputy to get Tara's belongings because he plans to take their daughters home. The doctor has to prepare discharge papers ready.
As night turns to dawn, the news about Dewey's death reaches everyone the entire town including that of the Loomis clan. While their boys cried their eyes out, Sidney and Billy had angry expressions on their faces. Jill and Robbie did their best to comfort her nephews. Sidney and Billy knew they had to go check on Gale. Jill gave them a knowing glance. A signal letting them know that she and Robbie would protect their boys and that it was ok to check on Gale. So both Sidney and Billy packed two bags one for her and one for him, hopped in their car and drove all night to reach Woodsboro.
Gale having spent the night crying for the loss of her husband, was trying to figure out how to tell her boys of Dewey's death. She figured they knew by now. She was nursing a cup of coffee which had gone cold. She shook her head thinking of her husband how many times she had come close to losing him. Now was gone. All the things she wanted to say to Dewey she could no longer say. How does she tell Gabe and Tommy of his death? Her cellphone rang. It was Gabe calling her. She stared at the phone for a moment before deciding to answer it.
"Hey honey." Gale answered her voice shaken.
"Mom." Gabe said having already heard the news. "Please tell me this is a joke and that dad is ok. Please." His voice cracking.
"It's true honey. I'm sorry." Gale said sobbing.
"Nooo." Gabe said softly crying over the phone. Gabe cried out in pain the loss of his father. Gale sobbed holding her hand over her mouth. Listening to her son cry broke her heart.
"Aunt Gale." Came the shaken voice of Tommy. Having taken the phone away from his crying cousin.
"Hey T. He's gone." Gale said.
"Ghost face?" Tommy asked.
"Yep." Gale said not bothering to hide this information. She knew who was responsible for Dewey's death.
"I'm sorry." Tommy said hurt at this unfortunate news.
"Yeah. Listen to me, you and Gabe stay put until I call for you. It's not safe here. I will work with the police to solve this. When it's over, we will hold a funeral for Dewey but do not come here. Understand?" Gale said to him.
"I understand. I'll tell Gabe." Tommy told her.
"Thank you baby." Gale said. "Take care of him." She said.
"I will." Tommy said as they both hung up the phone. Tommy comforted his grieving cousin holding him as Gabe sobbed for his dad.
The doctor had Tara's discharge papers ready. Sam helped Tara get changed so she was ready to leave. All four adults along with Tara make their way to the lobby.
It's late afternoon now. Gale is still seated alone this time with a cup of water. The small lobby empty out of respect for the mourner. She stares at nothing. Numb.
Sam spots her and tentatively works up the nerve to speak.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know him well. But he helped me." Sam said.
For a moment, it's unclear whether Gale even heard her. Then:
"That's what he did. He helped people." Gale said turning to Sam. "I should have stopped him."
"If you had, my sister would be dead." Sam said. Gale looks up at her. Honestly:
"It was a no win situation." Gale said.
"Ms. Weathers, I'm sorry about your husband Dewey. He was a nice guy." Ben said remembering Dewey. He had walked up to Sam and Gale.
"Thanks. You are?" She asked.
"Ben Carpenter. Sam's father." Ben said introducing himself. "That's my wife Christine." She waved to Gale who at this point could care less who they were. She waved back to them.
Outside of the hospital blue ford explore pulls up into the parking lot. Out stepped two familiar faces. Christine gasps in shock when she sees who they are. It's Billy and Sidney. She knows Billy's face anywhere. He had longer hair and a beard but it was him. She recognized Sidney as well. Both were older but it was definitely them. Sidney and Billy made their way into the empty lobby. Christine had stared at them as if she saw ghosts from her past.
"Gale?" Sidney called to her.
Gale looks up, expecting to see Sam again. But it's Sidney and Billy. Standing in the doorway. Gale can't believe it.
"Sid...? Billy?" Gale said.
"Hey Gale." Billy said. Gale rises as Sidney goes to her. They embrace. She embraces Billy as well. "You two shouldn't be here."
"You shouldn't be here either." Sidney said. "Gale... I am so sorry." She continued. They hold each other more tightly as the tears flow.
Sam, Ben, Richie and Tara witnessing the reunion in the hallway of the hospital lobby. They notice Christine's reaction. Understanding what was lost. Christine decides to go over to the group.
"I'll be right back." She said then turns to head in the direction Gale, Sidney and Billy.
"Do the boys know about Dewey?" Billy asked. Gale nods. "Jesus. Our clan knows as well."
"They aren't handling it well." Sidney revealed.
"I can imagine." Gale said.
"Billy." Christine called to him. He turned around hearing his name. "Hi." Billy was shocked to see her. He knew instantly who she was. So did Sidney. Gale was introduced to her five minutes ago.
"Christine. Hi." Billy said awkwardly.
"Hi Sidney. Long time no see." She said.
"Hi Christine. How's it going?" Sidney asked being polite.
"It's ok." Christine said. "Um Ms. Weathers, I'm sorry about Dewey."
"Thanks." Gale said.
"How's your children?" Christine asked.
"They're fine." Billy responds. "And yours?" He asked.
"Oh my girls are over there. The one standing is Sam and Tara is in the wheel chair. Both were attacked by a figure in a ghost face costume." Christine told them.
"Sorry to hear that." Sidney said. Billy stared at Sam as if he was looking into a mirror. He got this weird feeling in the pit of his stomach. Sam stared back at him. Gale caught this exchange. She wasn't the only one. Ben and Tara both caught it as well.
"They doin ok now?" Billy asked.
"Yes they are." Christine said. "I'll let you get back to talking. Again I'm sorry about Dewey." Gale nods. Christine walks away.
"That was fuckin weird." Gale said.
"Yeah I know. She was always a little off." Sidney said as she and Gale sat back down on the lobby couch. Billy watched as Sam, left the hospital with Tara, Christine, Ben and Richie.
