Angor carried Morgana down the hall to their bedroom. They could hear Aja and Krel coaxing Claire and Tronos along behind them. Angor closed the door and bypassed Morgana's bed. He lay her in his nest before grabbing her pillow and blanket off the bed.
"Angor, I'm fine. Really." She insisted.
Angor lay beside her, Stardust nestling herself between them, "We'll let Barbara be the judge of that tomorrow. Tonight, you should get some sleep."
Morgana smiled weakly and pet Stardust, "I don't know if I'd be able to sleep tonight even if I wanted to."
Stardust purred and nuzzled closer to Morgana. Angor frowned.
"I'm sorry, Morgana," He whispered, "I understand how much he meant to you."
The room was quiet save for moment save for Stardust's purrs.
"It's not even that he's gone," Morgana admitted, "I think I came to terms with that a long time ago. It's more…what they did to him. What they did to US. I-I know he was angry in Avalon but he was never like THAT."
"I didn't exactly LIKE him when we were in the past," Stardust whispered, not looking up at either wizard, "But he was trying to do better…"
"Then why did he come back like that but I came back alright?"
Angor shook his head, petting Stardust between the ears, "I don't know. Maybe it had something to do with Nari. If she left just after the Battle of Killahead then she wouldn't have been there to bring back Arthur."
Morgana nodded and held Stardust closer. Angor sighed.
"Maybe it would be better off if they had never brought us back at all."
Angor shot up, jostling Stardust and causing Morgana to roll back, "What!?"
She didn't look up at him, "I died just like Arthur did. Did they really have a right to bring us back? Would the world have been better if we had just stayed dead and just left everyone alone? I never would have helped Gunmar. I never would have cursed you. I never would have possessed Barbara or gotten any of the kids mixed into this."
"No!" Stardust looked up at her, ears folded back, "When you fell was the worst thing I'd ever experienced! And if you had never come back, we all would have lost everything. Mary had like two breakdowns because we didn't know if we would even have a home to come back to."
"Things would have certainly been different," Angor pulled her, Stardust and all, into his lap, "But there's no guarantee that it would have been for the better. Your children may never have met. I may never have found Stardust. Everyone here may have gone their entire lives without ever knowing about magic; Claire and Barbara, Jim may not have even existed. I'll admit, I'm still angry about what you did to me. I think I always will be." He curled one hand under her chin and tilted her head up, resting his forehead against hers. "But I know that I can't imagine my life without you in it now. Without you, or Stardust, or Claire, or any of them."
Morgana stared up at him, jaw hanging open. Angor squeezed his eye shut and tightened his hold on her.
"When I thought you were dead back there," He continued, "it was like time slowed down. And I had to think about it. About what I would do if you never came home."
Morgana shook for a moment before she curled against his chest and cried. Hot tears pouring down her cheeks, she clung to Stardust with one hand Angor with the other. As her sobs subsided, Angor laid them all back down in the nest. Morgana stayed pressed against his chest and Stardust was content to stay sandwiched between them. However, it wasn't long before their door squeaked open.
"M-Morgana? Angor?" Claire whispered.
Morgana lift her head to look over the edge of the nest and Angor propped himself up on one elbow.
"What's wrong, Youngling?" he asked.
Claire shuffled in the doorway. Stardust chirped and wiggled out of Morgana's arms. She trot across the room and nudged Claire in the back of her knees the way she had seen Archie do. Claire stumbled forward.
"Did you want to head home, Claire?" Morgana asked, sitting up fully.
Claire shook her head, "No. I already checked in with Mom and Papi. They and Enrique are all fine. Papi said that the castle didn't hit the house at all.
"That's good," Morgana nodded and held out her hand, "Then what can we do for you?"
Claire wiggled before climbing into the nest and leaning back for Stardust. She leaned into Morgana's arms and held Stardust tightly.
"I think I just needed to make sure everyone was ok…" She whispered, "I'm tired but I'm not if that makes any sense."
Morgana nodded, "I think it does."
Claire nodded again and pressed her face into Stardust's fur.
"What's really wrong?" Angor asked.
Claire shook her head and leaned more into Morgana.
"You were dead. Everyone was going to lose everything and there was nothing I could do to help them or you or anyone." She whispered, "Seamus nearly died! And I couldn't even help him…"
Morgana stroked her hair gently and Angor scooted closer to sit behind them. Claire pressed her face back into Stardust's fur.
"I was so scared and there was nothing I could do. We were all split up and I felt bad worrying since I'm not actually related to any of the ones we were split up from. I still had Stardust with me and we still had Baby Wally and Douxie was with us but we couldn't really DO anything to help and…" She curled more into herself, "We might have come home to so many people gone…Or-Or no one at all! Would Jim have just poofed out of existence? What would have happened to Mary or Seamus? Would they be dead!? I mean, Seamus got SHOT! And Mary–"
"Claire. Claire. Claire!" Morgana tilted her chin until she looked up, "It's ok. None of that happened. Everyone made it home safely in the end."
"And from what I heard you even healed Seamus," Angor reminded her.
"But that almost DIDN'T happen," Claire insisted, "When you were dead, everyone was so scared that we wouldn't be able to go home. That Gunmar would win at the Battle of Killahead. I don't know what we would have done in that case and all I could do was try to stay positive to keep everyone else from panicking."
Morgana nodded slowly, "True. And, like you said, everyone nearly lost everything. But that isn't what happened. Everyone is fine. Seamus is ok, Jim is ok, and I'm fine too. That was a bad time, I know. But it's over now and everyone is safe. Merlin and I may have had our…disagreements… But I trust that he will keep Nari safe. And it won't be long before we are done with the Arcane Order."
Claire nodded and rest her head on Morgana's chest, "I know. That doesn't make it go away."
"No. I guess it doesn't."
They were quiet for a moment longer before Stardust began to purr again. Angor adjusted the pillow behind Morgana and Claire and pulled the blanket up for them.
"Why don't you stay in here tonight," Angor offered, "I can grab another pillow if you'd like but this way you'd know for sure that we're all alright. The nest is plenty big enough."
Claire nodded and scooted out of Morgana's arms for a moment. Angor went back over to Margana's bed and returned with another pillow. They all settled back down, Claire holding Stardust and nestled between Angor and Morgana. Despite what she had said, it didn't take long for Claire to fall asleep. Morgana continued to stroke her hair, motions growing slower and slower until they stopped completely and Stardust's purrs quieted. Angor held all three of them closer until his nose was pressed into Morgana's hair.
"Sleep well, Saamnap." He whispered.
