Chapter 6: The Competition has arrived!
There is great tension in BubbleWood! This is sparking! The world of youth entertainment had found two great rivals. The Bubble Guppies had accepted the challenge of the popular singer Stella (actually, it was Molly. But since the guppies are involved, they are going to participate anyway). The media and marketing did not take long to spread this news throughout the world of entertainment. They have sold the news as the artistic duel of Molly vs. Stella. Which has caused a lot of attention from the entertainment industry. And let's not even talk about the fans and listeners. It didn't take long for discussions to begin on online forums and blogs about whether the Bubble Guppies were better than Stella or whether she was better than the band. Regardless of what everyone thinks, the fact that everyone knows and gives importance to the news drastically increased the rating. Something that both Madame Octavia and Stella wanted for their separate goals.
On the other hand, Molly was determined to create a new song and new choreography to make a new music video to compete against Stella. She felt that she had to do it to defend herself and her friends. The other guppies, although they thought that this would not be right, decided to support her and not leave her alone in this. Mr. Grouper did not agree that Molly competed in that "not very friendly" way. And much less that others got involved. Although he understood that it was because they would never leave her alone in a situation like that. So he decided to "tolerate" this occasion. For this occasion, the guppies had gathered again in the living room of Octavia's Mansion where Molly would instruct her friends on her idea for the new song and choreography.
"The song is ready and I thought it could be something simple like we usually do. We usually take anything normal and turn that topic into a song. And this time will be no exception...For this song, I thought we could change certain dance steps to match the rhythm" Molly explained her plan with her friends.
"That doesn't sound bad at all" Gil commented with a smile.
"We just have to do what we usually do. There are not many changes" Deema said confidently.
"Friends, has anyone seen Zooli? I haven't seen her all morning" Goby asked curiously.
"Actually, I didn't even see her at breakfast" Oona added worriedly.
"Ugggghhhh….Hmmmmm….Hmmmmmm" At this time, Zooli finally arrived at the guppies meeting. But she didn't look good. For starters, she got out of her bed recently. She had dark circles under her eyes and she didn't look very healthy "Good….Morning….Guys…."
"Whoa!" The six guppies gasped in worry.
"But what happened to you, Zooli?!" Deema asked worriedly.
"Im….Im…fi…cough….Forget it…." Zooli wanted to stay well, but her face was not the healthiest. Immediately, Mr. Grouper arrived and touched her forehead.
"Oh! She also has a fever...And she looks dizzy..." Mr Grouper analyzed her "I think the crazy party last night made you very sick"
"Maybe...I ate too many snacks…..And the loud music and lights...Ughhh" Zooli tried to speak more.
"Come on, Zooli. Today you are going to bed and I will make you some tea to make you feel better" Mr. Grouper decided to help his student return to her bed. The guppies didn't say anything, but they watched all this with concern. Luckily, one of the mansion's servants brought him the necessary tea and Mr. Grouper returned to his students after briefly attending Zooli.
"What happened to Zooli?" Molly asked worriedly.
"Will she be okay?" Oona added too.
"She only suffered from a migraine. Maybe the party has affected her a little….But she's okay" The teached calmed his students.
"(sigh) This is not okay. Without Zooli, we won't be able to make the music video" Molly said worriedly.
"Fear not, dears" Madame Octavia said as she arrived with her loyal assistant Wallace "There is nothing to worry about. The plans have not changed at all"
"B-B-But Miss Octavia….Zooli…." The leader of the band tried to tell her.
"I don't think it's going to be a problem. After all, you guys made too many songs without Zooli in the past. It will be like "going back to the old days", a perfect strategy to compete against our rival" The cecaelia woman explained.
"But Zooli is part of the band!" Deema said defensively.
"It will only be for this occasion. Plus, the show must go on with or without her. Think of the fans who are waiting for you" The octopus woman commented.
"It's true! We can't let them down. Plus, we have almost everything ready. We can't turn back after so much work. Come on, guys. It will only be for this song" Molly tried to convince them. The guppies thought carefully before answering.
"Well...I think it doesn't sound bad. We've done it before" Gil commented.
"Okay. For our fans" Goby added. The rest nodded.
"Great! Now we can go to the studio to rehearse!" Molly said happily.
"That's the spirit, dear! Come on!" Madame Octavia smiled at them.
"Follow us!" Wallace added too.
"I will go with you" Mr. Grouper said.
"Oh….I would prefer that you stay at the mansion. After all, Zooli needs someone to take care of her. And I feel that you are the most suitable. Don't worry, the rest are in my good hands...and Wally's good hands. We will return later" The octopus woman convinced him to stay. He thought about refusing at first, but he knew he couldn't leave Zooli alone. So he, without many options, accepted Octavia's recommendation.
"(sigh) Okay….Kids, be careful and don't separate from Octavia. See you soon!" He said quietly.
"See you soon, Mr. Grouper!" The six guppies said before leaving the mansion with Wallace. Both adults stayed inside the mansion for a few seconds before she turned her back on him and left the mansion.
"The show must go on. After all, it's not like Zooli is too important to the band" Madame Octavia said quietly to herself. Nobody listened, luckily for her. But Mr. Grouper had a feeling that her comment was not pleasant. He simply took a serious look at her and decided to go back to taking care of Zooli. He just started to get a bad feeling. There was something about her that he wasn't liking at all.
We will now look at the recording studio, where the guppies would make the famous music video that they would use for their challenge against Stella. Madame Octavia and Wally prepared everything to record the Bubble Guppies' new hit song. The guppies were rehearsing the steps and lyrics of the latest song.
"Not bad, guys! Our steps are getting better and better. Remember that we change pairs or trios in certain parts of the song. Luckily, all of that will look better thanks to Wally's editing. Very well, how about one more time to check that we will do much better?" Molly asked her friends.
"Sounds good to me...But...please...Can we take a break? We have repeated the same part several times" Gil told her while he was taking a breath.
"I'm sorry. I just thought that part was the one that needed the most improvement" The pink-haired guppy said.
"I thought we did this step well" Goby commented concernedly.
"Of course. But if we want to be much better, we must try harder than this" The leader said quietly.
"Relax, girl! For now, let's just drink some water. Let's breathe a little and do it again later" Deema intervened. The rest agreed and everybody rested a bit. Everyone looked calm, except one of them.
"Oona….Is something wrong?" Goby asked her.
"(sigh) I don't think we should do this...At least...Not without Zooli. I feel like we are….leaving her aside. Instead of competing against Stella, we should have stayed taking care of Zooli" Oona shared her concern.
"We are doing this so as not to disappoint our beloved fans. I'm sure Zooli will understand" Molly intervined. Before the Asian guppy could respond to that, she felt Nonny sit next to her for a moment.
"Don't worry. She is in good hands. Mr. Grouper will take good care of her. I'm sure" Nonny calmed her with his typical tone of voice. Before they could continue talking, Wally arrived at the door.
"How's everything going, superstars?" Wallace asked them.
"Everything's in order, Wally. We're just resting a little. A few minutes and we will return with some more practices" Molly answered with confidence.
"Excellent! Everything is almost ready to record. Oh, and by the way, Madame Octavia wants to talk to you, Molly" The snail boy added.
"Very good. Guys, I'll be back soon. Rest and when I return we can continue" Molly said before leaving and accompanying Wallace to go together where the famous manager was waiting for them. When she left the room, the guppies felt they should talk about something that had been troubling them recently.
"Guys, I hope I'm not the only one here who thinks Molly has started acting strange" Goby was the first one who touched this topic.
"What do you mean by that?" Gil asked confusedly.
"Since we got here and started to be famous, there's something about her that I'm not liking. It seems like she's starting to stop being herself" The dark-blue haired guppy shared his concern.
"It's true. Do you remember when she confronted Stella? Molly wasn't herself at that moment" Deema commented.
"Besides, we just sing and dance for fun...Then why are we making this video? Just to beat Stella in a challenge we didn't even accept" Oona added quietly.
"I just hope...that our friend is not being influenced by Madame Octavia" Nonny said his assumptions.
"Influenced?" Oona asked confusedly. Normally, Nonny would comment that it means someone influences you. But someone interrupted the conversation.
"Guys, guys, calm down. I think we are overthinking things. Molly just must be under pressure. Let's not forget that she has been directing the rehearsals, the songs and all this. Of all of us, she is the one who has worked the hardest. We must understand that perhaps she is simply tired" Gil defended his best friend's behavior.
"Well, yeah….But…." Deema wanted to answer.
"And what happened with Stella, well...It's the first time I've seen Molly get angry with someone. And I can't blame her. In a way, Stella needs to be taught a lesson. Molly is counting on us. Let's do it for our friend" Gil managed to convince them. Although they knew that he would defend his best friend's position, they also knew that he had a point. They couldn't abandon her. They smiled and nodded. At that moment, Molly arrived.
"Alright, guys? Are you ready? Because we can do some more rehearsals before recording" Molly said excitedly. This time, the guppies were more willing to stick with the plan. Of course, without stopping thinking about their previous conversation.
After that, our protagonists carried out rehearsals prior to recording the new music video. At the time of recording, it took them a little longer than expected because this video was more difficult to make. Mostly because of the new effects and that this time, the choreography was stricter. It was necessary to do our best to surpass the competition. After a lot of trial and error, they managed to create one of their best videos yet. Now Wallace would be in charge of putting the finishing touches on the video. After that long day of work, the guppies went to rest waiting for the night of the challenge.
A few days later, it was time for the Bubble Guppies to show their talents in the competition. The event would be a private concert, where the selected audience will be able to see both prepared music videos for the first time, since both videos were never released to the public until that night. By this time, Zooli was already feeling much better. However, she preferred not to attend the event to avoid another relapse, since she was barely recovering. That night, she stayed at the mansion under Mr. Grouper's care again. While the other guppies put on their best outfits to go with Madame Octavia to the big event. On that night full of emotion, a select audience was present at the event. Only very exclusive people were at that concert while everything was under broadcast to the common public. On one stage, a crab man in a formal uniform and a black mustache was the presenter.
"Good evening everyone, dear audience members. Here live from BubbleWood we are witnessing something incredible. Briefly, one of the most impressive duels in BubbleWood will begin. Two groups of youth superstars are going to compete to see which of them is the best. Why don't we receive our participants? To my left, we have the young pop superstar. This girl started in the world of music from a very young age and has been the most popular youth artist in recent years. With you, Stella!" The presenter introduced the famous youth star. The guppy appeared escorted by her two friends, Brittany and Allison. The public received them with ovation and applause.
"The Queen is here Haha!" Stella said confidently as she received all the credit.
"...And to my right, we have not one, but six talented guppies. These young promises have improved their talents under the guidance of the great Madame Octavia. At that moment, our six protagonists entered the stage, being received by praise and applause from the audience.

"I hope you are ready for the show!" Gil added excitedly.
"Let's go, everyone! Some louder applause!" Deema encouraged the audience much more. The audience applauded and shouted louder with excitement.
"Hohoho! These guys look like they know how to liven up an event, huh? Very well, before presenting the music videos...Surely our participants would like to say a few words to each other before we start..." The presenter said. At this moment, Molly and Stella walked over and saw each other face to face. They both gave each other challenging looks.
"Hey, may the best of us win today" Molly tried to be nice to her. She even extended her hand to give him a polite greeting, but Stella just looked at that with displeasure.
"Hmpt….I don't need your kindness when I'm going to sweep the floor with you and your friends..." Stella said with a smug smile.
"That was not polite" Oona commented quietly.
"Well, in that case...I hope you prepare your apology for later" Molly smirked a bit. That puzzled her friends. Little did they know that she would show the more competitive side of her...and not in a good way. After that, both separated to give the presenter space.
"Wow…..It looks like the two girls are fuming. Both are very talented, but only one will be the best. Alright, let's start with the first music video of the night. Stella will be the first" The host said excitedly. In the center of the stage, a huge screen came on.
"Hehe….You will see something incredible. Watch and learn, rookies" Stella said that before snapping her fingers and her music video appeared on the screen. It was a great song with her as the lead artist, accompanied by Brittany and Allison and several extras. The song and choreography were very good and were liked by the audience. That worried our guppies a little. Finally, the music video ended and won over a large part of the audience. There was a lot of applause and shouting from the fans.
"There is no way to overcome this. Good luck, newbies" Stella said with a smug smile. The guppies were slightly intimidated by her, but Molly simply gave her a confident smile.
"We'll see about that, Stella…..Bring it on" Molly said that before Wallace (who was backstage) could activate his playback equipment to start the Bubble Guppies music video. In the video, it was important to highlight the pastel pink and blue lighting that characterized this video. In addition, the catchy musical rhythm made many people fascinated by the beginning of this song. The guppies were excited to show everyone the music video they had worked so hard on. The video was just fantastic. The shots coordinated with the choreography. The steps were consistent. The clothing on some of the guppies was eye-catching, like Deema in a bubble suit in one shot and Molly's eye-catching outfit of fingerless gloves, blue sunglasses, and a headband styled extravagantly with crayons and lots of glitter. It was without a doubt the guppy that stood out the most.
"Ha! Do you seriously think that that simple song will make people..." Stella wanted to mock them, but she had to swallow her words when she heard the audience clap and scream much louder than when they heard her song.
"YAY! YOHOOO! BUBBLE GUPPIES! BUBBLE GUPPIES!" Everyone started shouting with joy and praising the youth stars. The guppies were flattered and greeted the audience with their charisma.
"Thank you very much to all! We did it with a lot of hard work. I hope you liked it!" Molly said it loudly.
"It seems that we have the public's favorite song. A louder applause for all of them!" The host said happily. The screams of the fans were very loud and that place was a complete party for them. The guppies could simply enjoy their musical success and appreciate all the support and praise from the public.
"Grrrr There will always be a next time...Let's go, girls!" Stella said that angrily and snapped her fingers to order her friends to leave with her. But this time, something unexpected happened to her.
"Oh, I don't think we're going to continue following your orders" Brittany said with a smile.
"What are you two talking about?"Stella said bothered.
"Sorry, Stella...But we've seen someone much cooler than you. If we want to maintain our reputation, we must be with the best" Allison added.
"You can't do this to me! You are my best friends" The "queen of pop" said bothered.
"Well not anymore. You're already out of fashion. You are history, dear" One of the lobster girls replied. They both decided to turn their backs on their old friend. Stella was enraged by this betrayal. Although, deep down, that hurt her. She, without saying anything, had to swallow her pride and leave there. This time, without people she trusted.
After the event ended, the guppies gathered backstage. They were talking to each other, congratulating each other on their performance in the video.
"That was incredible! It was one of the best we did!" Gil said excitedly.
"Undoubtedly. I must admit I liked Deema's part. The clip of her with the bubbles of her was funny" Goby commented.
"Oh Goby, you flatter me" Deema said with a smile.
"Guys, we have to say it: Molly rocked this video. You did the best parts" Gil admitted sincerely.
"Thanks, Gilly. I wouldn't have done it without all of you" Molly answered kindly. At that same moment, two lobster girls that we had seen previously appeared.
"Congratulations, guppies!" Both of them said at the same time.
"Hey! We know them. You two are Stella's friends, aren't you?" Deema identified them.
"We just wanted to congratulate you on the video. It has been one of the best" Brittany admitted.
"Besides, we're not friends with Stella anymore. Let's say she has been very mean to us and she always treated us like servants more than friends" Allison added.
"That is very sad" Oona felt bad for them.
"We just want to recognize the good work you guys have done...Especially you, Molly" Brittany flattered her.
"R-R-Really?" Molly was a bit surprised.
"Of course! There's a reason you're the leader of the band! You are someone exceptional" Allison nodded in agreement.
"Wow...I don't know what to say...Thank you" The pink-haired guppy was very flattered.

"(sigh) Great….Kean" Gil rolled his eyes.
"You were wonderful in that video. You were the best tonight. You showed that you were the best of the two" The young rapper boy used his charms to cajole the leader of the guppies once again.
"(giggle) That's very nice of you" Molly touched her arm nervously. She was excited.
"That means we will be able to see each other very soon. Here, call me when you can. See you, Molly" Kean gave her a piece of paper with his cell phone number. And before leaving, he winked at her and left. Molly couldn't respond normally. She was entranced by the boy's attention and charisma.
"I-I-Ill" Molly said with a very fascinated tone. Yep, she fell for his charms.
"Oh wow! You look like you have the attention of a new friend" Oona commented surprisingly.
"Yes of course, a friend" Deema said funnily, raising her eyebrow "I would call him an admirer"
"Hes….Hes fantastic, don't you think?" Molly asked very happily.
"Hmpt….He only spoke nicely to her. Anyone could do it" Gil crossed his arms and rolled his eyes. Before anyone could notice his obvious sign of jealousy, the team manager arrived.
"Simply magnificent! We are a global trend! This has been one of the best transmissions. Excellent job everyone...Especially Molly. If you hadn't challenged Stella, we wouldn't have this much popularity. And that's why we're going to party at my private club. I invite" Madame Octavia said happily.
"Miss Octavia, don't you think it's too late for a party?" Oona asked curiously.
"Oh dears! When you're famous, there are no rules! It's never too late for a good party. Come on, guppies! You deserve it" The cecaelia woman answered.
"Oh yeah! No rules? Im on it!" Deema said excitedly.
"I don't think it's something Mr. Grouper would approve of" Nonny intervene.
"That's the funniest part: I'm in charge of you right now, not Mr. Grouper. And I allow you to do what you want. So...let's have fun with your favorite hostess!" She said that with a very cheerful tone. The guppies were excited and decided to go to another crazy party. Some bad feelings were forgotten at that moment. That night, the guppies had the time of their lives at the private party. There were no rules and, since Mr. Grouper was not there, they had complete freedom to do whatever they wanted. It seems that it was time for them to enjoy the crazy lifestyle of celebrities much more. Will this consume our guppies?
Oh, wow. It seems that guppies are slowly entering the perfect life of celebrities. Full of luxuries, parties, fame and popularity. Although it seems like this might consume some of them. There are so many things to think about.
By the way, in this chapter I cheated a little. The song that appeared in this chapter is a not so well-known official Bubble Guppies song. It is an official music video that was created for a promotion for the third season. The song is called "Pencil Case", which is a song parody of "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga. You can search for that song on YouTube. Funnily enough, it became one of my favorite songs.

Having Zooli meet Stylee was definitely something she had in mind for a long time and I think I really liked the outcome of that scene. The emergence of new pop stars was something very interesting. From good and nice characters (like Stylee's friends) to not very nice people like Stella and her friends. It seems like Molly is being the guppy most influenced by fame. All I can say is prepare yourself for what's coming.
