I stood there, my heart pounding, as the scene from the manga unfolded before my eyes. Asuma, Kurenai, Kakashi, and the formidable Akatsuki members Itachi and Kisame were locked in a standoff, their figures reflected in the water beneath them. I knew the outcome, yet a part of me clung to the hope of a different ending. Despite the fear gnawing at me, the thrill of witnessing the battle firsthand was an undeniable rush.
The air was charged with tension as the standoff continued. Kakashi, his breaths ragged and sweat dripping from beneath his headband, found the strength to speak. "So, your target is the nine-tails inside Naruto, isn't it?" His voice was steady, belying the intensity of the situation. "You've started to make your move. You think we're oblivious? Your organization... It's Akatsuki, isn't it?" His words, spoken with a calm authority, were a testament to his experience and resolve. This was Kakashi, always vigilant, always prepared, no matter the odds.
"Akatsuki?" Asuma echoed, uncertainty lacing his voice.
"Kisame, deal with Kakashi," Itachi instructed, his voice as calm and steady as a still pond. "These individuals... their time has come to fade away."
Kisame lunged to attack, only to be sent skidding across the surface of the water by a powerful kick.
"Who the hell is that?" He exclaimed, surprise evident in his voice.
With an air of flamboyance, the new figure announced himself, "Behold, the Leaf's spirited green beast, Might Guy!" His voice was filled with enthusiasm and energy.
"What the... Better yet... I just mistake you for an exotic animal?" Kisame retorted, confusion clear in his tone.
"Underestimate that man at your own peril..." Itachi cautioned, his voice steady and composed.
Suddenly, Kakashi's body went limp, and he collapsed onto the water's surface, unconscious. I was a mere spectator, powerless to intervene as Kakashi was subjected to the psychological torment of Tsukuyomi. The sight was chilling, a memory that would forever haunt me.
With Gai's sudden appearance, Itachi and Kisame decided it was time to retreat. Trailing behind the four Jonin, I silently observed as they ensured Kakashi's safe return home. The day's events weighed heavily in the air, but a sense of relief was present too. We had weathered the storm, for now.
I sat next to Kakashi, my eyes glued to his unconscious form as the four Jonin talked over the steady rhythm of Kakashi's breathing.
The door opened and Sasuke walked in. "Kakashi..." He began but stopped at the sight of Kakashi lying in bed. "Why is Kakashi sleeping? Why are the Jonin all gathered here where he's resting?"
"Um, No... It's not really that." Guy said hesitantly.
Suddenly, the door burst open. A shinobi, breathless and pale, stumbled in. "Is it true?" he gasped, "Has Itachi returned to Konoha and is he after Naruto?" A tense silence fell over the room. I noticed Sasuke stiffen, a look of alarm crossing his face.
Upon realizing Sasuke was in the room, the shinobi paused with a startled "Ah!"
"Idiot," Kurenai muttered. Before anyone could react, Sasuke was already bolting out of the room.
Guy sprang to his feet in alarm, "Where are you going?!"
Casting one last look at Kakashi, I sprinted out of the room, determined to tail Sasuke.
He started to search every place he thought Naruto might be at this time of day, but Naruto was nowhere to be found. I was aware that Naruto wasn't in Konoha at the moment. The absence of his chakra was a dead giveaway.
I momentarily halted my pursuit when he stopped at Ichiraku's. "Old man! Naruto usually comes here for lunch. Do you know where he went after that?" He inquired.
"Ahh, Naruto. Let me think..." He began. "I'm certain... Lord Jiraiya came and had ramen with him."
He paused to recollect then continued. "He mentioned where he was headed... Let's see... He was planning to leave town for a bit, take the cattle-road down to some hotel-town or something... Jiraiya took him along when he left."
"Jiraiya?!" Sasuke exclaimed.
"A remarkable ninja. One of the legendary three, Jiraiya. He's easy to spot, a tall man with white hair." Ichiraku gestured with his hand in the air.
Sasuke dashed off again and I was right on his heels, careful not to draw his attention. We eventually reached an outpost town. Without missing a beat, Sasuke approached an innkeeper. "Hey," he started, his tone brusque and to the point, "Is there a blonde idiot about my age and a large white-haired old man around here?"
Without waiting for an answer, I focused my senses on detecting Naruto's chakra in the town. As soon as I pinpointed his location, I dashed towards it while molding my chakra.
Closing in on the location where Naruto's chakra was sensed, the distinct chakra signatures of Itachi and Kisame became apparent. The realization of the imminent danger Naruto was in hit hard. Swift and decisive action was needed. Every second mattered, and there was no room for hesitation.
Taking a deep breath, I focused my chakra, feeling it surge within me. I called upon my adamantine sealing chains. The chains, glowing with a bright light, sprang forth from my body, moving with a speed and precision that belied my appearance.
The chains shot towards Itachi and Kisame, aiming to bind them before they could react. The chains wrapped around them, their adamantine strength making it difficult for them to break free.
A shiver went down my back before a sudden spike of chakra alerted me to something wrong. I quickly scanned the area with my sensory abilities, trying to find the source of the disturbance. To my horror, I realized that Itachi was not really caught by my chains. It was all a genjutsu, a clever illusion that fooled my eyes and ears. He had escaped my attack and was now behind me, ready to strike.
I cursed myself for being so careless. I should have known that Itachi, being a master of genjutsu, would use his Sharingan to cast an illusion. I should have sensed his chakra before he could trap me in his genjutsu. But I was too focused on my own jutsu, and I let my guard down.
I desperately flared my chakra to break the genjutsu, but it was too late. His hand was already around my neck, squeezing the life out of me. For a second, I was stunned by the sensation of Itachi Uchiha's hand on my neck. Then, as his grip tightened and I was left gasping for air, I realized he was going to kill me.
I strained every muscle not to lose control of my adamantine sealing chains; but I felt my chakra depleting and my chains loosening. My small frame dangled in the air, helpless and terrified, as Itachi held me by the neck.
And just as despair threatened to consume me, a familiar voice echoed through the chaos. It was Naruto—my impulsive, big-hearted friend who never backed down from a fight. His presence alone injected hope into my veins.
"Naruto!" I choked out, my voice barely audible. "Get out of here! It's too dangerous!"
But Naruto wasn't one to heed warnings. His blue eyes blazed with determination, and he clenched his fists. "I don't know what is going on," he said, his voice unwavering, "but I won't let you hurt my friend!"
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!" he yelled, determination etched on his face. Clones burst into existence beside him, their scowls mirroring his resolve.
Itachi's eyes flashed with a cruel gleam as Naruto's clones emerged. The Uchiha prodigy evaded Naruto's clumsy assault, his movements smooth and graceful. The kunai in his hand was a weapon of his skill—a deadly snare waiting to be triggered.
"You're naive," Itachi mocked, his voice like a sharp frost biting through the atmosphere. "But determined."
Itachi's eyes pierced Naruto's, as if probing his soul. "Friends," he said, his voice devoid of any warmth or emotion. "Do you not realize how futile they are?"
I felt his grip on my neck loosen slightly, allowing me to breathe. I gasped for air, feeling the blood rush to my head.
Before I could say anything, someone arrived. A familiar chakra signature flashed in my senses. I didn't need to look to know who it was.
"It has been a while, Sasuke." Itachi greeted, his tone flat and indifferent.
"Itachi Uchiha!" Sasuke spat, his voice laced with hatred. His chakra flared up, icy and furious.
"What?!" Naruto exclaimed.
Kisame chuckled, his voice mocking and amused. "What a lucky day for us, don't you think? First we find a kid with the Uzumaki clan's Adamantine sealing chains and now a kid with the Sharingan."
I felt a surge of pain as Itachi flung me away, sending me crashing into the wall. The impact knocked the wind out of me, making me lose my concentration. My chakra faltered, and my chains slackened.
Kisame took advantage of my momentary lapse and freed himself from my jutsu. He slashed his sword, Samehada, and cut off the last of the chains. He grinned, showing his shark-like teeth. "Hey, Itachi, who is this brat?" He sneered.
There was a brief silence before Itachi spoke, "He is my... younger brother."
I coughed as I lay on the ground, trying to catch my breath. Sasuke's eyes were burning with rage, fixed on Itachi's face. Naruto looked stunned, his mouth agape.
"I heard the entire Uchiha clan was massacred..." Kisame said, his voice trailing off. "By you."
The air was thick with tension as I sensed Sasuke's chakra surge. He clenched his teeth and said, "I've been waiting for this moment... I've lived with nothing but hatred for you... And I've lived only to kill you!"
His left hand crackled with lightning, ready to strike.
"Chidori." Itachi said, his voice calm and emotionless.
As I watched Sasuke charge towards Itachi, his left-hand crackling with the energy of Chidori, my heart pounded in my chest like a war drum. His hatred was so intense, it blinded him to Itachi's subtle movements.
"S-Sasuke! Be careful!" I found myself warning, my voice hoarse and strained from fear, echoing eerily in the tense silence.
Sasuke's Chidori collided with the wall where Itachi had been standing moments before. Itachi had disappeared as if swallowed by the shadows. Before Sasuke could react, Itachi materialized behind him, seizing his left hand. My breath hitched in my throat, caught by the sudden turn of events.
"You're in the way..." Itachi said, his voice as calm and detached as the winter wind. He tightened his grip, and a sickening crunch echoed through the air as he broke Sasuke's hand. Sasuke screamed in pain, collapsing to the floor like a puppet with its strings cut. Itachi looked down at him with a cold, disdainful gaze that sent shivers down my spine. I felt a pang of helplessness that gnawed at my heart.
"Damn it!" Naruto shouted, his voice filled with frustration and concern. He began to form hand seals and mold his chakra, but then he froze as if struck by lightning. My heart sank like a stone in water.
I quickly mimicked his actions, deploying my adamantine sealing chains, noticing that Samehada was greedily absorbing Naruto's chakra. Fear gripped me like a vice, squeezing the breath out of me.
"Not so fast, kid!" Kisame taunted, skillfully evading my chains with Samehada in his grasp. I clenched my fists, frustration bubbling within me like a boiling cauldron.
Before I could react further, a cloud of smoke erupted, and a large toad materialized in front of Naruto, shielding him. Alongside the toad stood the towering figure of Jiraiya, one of the Legendary Sannin. A woman rested unconscious on his shoulder, adding to the surreal scene. My heart fluttered with a glimmer of hope.
Striking a dramatic pose, Jiraiya pointed a thumb at himself, his other hand resting confidently on his hip. "Well, well, it seems I've arrived just in time," he announced, his voice booming and full of life. He swept his arm out wide, as if presenting himself to an audience. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Jiraiya, the Toad Sage, a man who loves and is loved by women! I don't fall for a woman's charm easily, but rather, I am the one who charms them! When you reach my level, women swoon over my irresistible appeal!" His words echoed through the area, transforming the once tense atmosphere into a scene of comic relief.
Despite Jiraiya's over-the-top introduction, I couldn't help but feel a wave of relief wash over me. With Jiraiya on our side, we had a fighting chance. I took a deep, steadying breath to calm my racing heart.
The rest of the fight unfolded as one might expect. Regrettably, I was unable to prevent Sasuke from falling under the influence of Tsukuyomi.
We ended up in the stomach of one of Jiraiya's summoned toads, which was as disgusting as it sounds. But hey, at least it meant I didn't have to face off against two S-rank ninjas. I even managed to find humor in the situation when Jiraiya got a well-deserved kick in the face from Gai.
My only complaint was having to witness Itachi's villainous act. Knowing the truth about the Uchiha massacre, it was hard not to see the whole situation as tragically pointless. It was a stark reminder of the complex and often painful realities of the ninja world. The futility of it all weighed heavily on my heart.
With Sasuke unconscious and draped over Gai's back, we began our journey back to Konoha. The adrenaline from the fight had worn off, leaving behind a heavy silence. The events of the day replayed in my mind, each moment a stark reminder of the harsh realities of our world.
As we prepared to part ways, I turned to Naruto. "Take care, Big Brother," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Despite everything, a small smile tugged at the corners of my mouth. Naruto had always been more than a friend to me; he was family.
Naruto grinned back at me, his eyes filled with determination. "You too, Ariel," he replied, his voice strong and steady. "We'll see each other again soon."
With that, we went our separate ways. As I watched Naruto's retreating figure, I couldn't help but feel a sense of hope. Despite the challenges we faced, I knew we would continue to fight, to grow, and to protect those we cared about. After all, that's what it meant to be a ninja.
