Chapter 10: A Bridge of Quartz
Steven Universe is slowly walking the stairs to the Burning Room otherwise known as The Bubble Room. Everyone followed behind Steven, all of them looking worried at his sudden declaration to free Bismuth after everything he went through. Ruby, Sapphire, Pearl and Amethyst walked up besides Steven, touching his arms, shoulders and hands in hopes they could make him reconsider his actions. And besides, after all that happened, Steven popped out of Lions' head, Peridot explained the Crystal was heading towards Earth and Steven wanted to free Bismuth. This was insane, so much to absorb with so little time.
Pearl is holding Steven's shoulder, gently pulling to see if he would stop "Steven! Stop! You got to at least think about this! Look at your back! It's been slashed!"
"It's okay Pearl, I'm fine" Steven says, not stopping when she tugs.
Amethyst doesn't try to physically prevent Steven from moving downstairs. Wasn't enough room and deep down she wanted Bismuth back "Steven, much as I'd want her back, she tried killing you man. What happened to her will be like, fresh in her mind if she comes back…I don't wanna fight her again."
Steven doesn't stop walking downstairs, but doesn't ignore what his friends were saying "I know that Amethyst, but we're out of options and from what I know, we need all the gem power we can get."
Ruby is holding Steven's hand, speaking gently "Steven, we all love and appreciated her. But risking her attacking you on sight isn't the best…"
Sapphire nods stroking Steven's hand "I understand your optimism, I know with us all together we can prevent Bismuth's potential attack. But it shouldn't come to that, we should attempt to reach out when this is over."
Connie watches Steven continue downstairs, almost reaching the entrance. She doesn't have a place to say since she barely knew Bismuth. But she always heard so many good things about her from Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl. Despite Bismuth's shocking attack, Steven never spoke down on her for that. He only mentioned the good in Bismuth.
Connie smiles warmly "Guys, I think we should trust Steven."
Lapis looks down at the young girl, looking puzzled "I won't question trusting Steven, but I'm questioning your eagerness to let her out?"
Connie notices everyone has stopped in front of the entrance to the Bubble Room, staring at her. The young girl clears her throat "If Steven is willing to give her another chance, after what you said happened, it must mean a lot for him to risk this."
Steven smiles at Connie, feeling a nice warmth that was missing awhile back "Thank you, Connie" the boy looks at everyone "This isn't just about asking for Bismuth's help. But to give her what she needs, the truth."
Pearl squints at Steven "The truth? Didn't you try and convince her you're not Rose?"
"No Pearl, THE truth…about mom" Steven stares into her eyes, the most serious he's been so far.
Pearl slowly stands up, if she had a heartbeat. It'd be beating rapidly. She instinctively covers her mouth, but feels herself removing them "S-Steven…this could break her mentally…"
Amethyst pats Pearl's back, being optimistic "She deserves the truth like we did, she's a Crystal Gem, family…y'know? Right Greg?"
Greg Universe smiles, giving a thumbs up "Heck yeah! It's what kept you all strong together!"
Sapphire and Ruby state into each other's eyes, nodding slightly and looking at Pearl "Family."
Peridot and Lapis smiles "Family."
Connie gently holds onto her teacher's hand, Steven walks over and does the same, both squeezing tightly "Family."
Pearl feels astonished by everyone around her, a strange warmth inside her chest. There was no heartbeat, yet in this instance Pearl truly felt one inside. She smiles proudly for her family "O-Okay Steven, let's do our best for Bismuth. Whatever it takes, for our family."
Steven hugs Pearl, she quickly kneels down and embraces him. The boy slowly withdraws and walks to the doors "Alright everyone, let's get ready."
He pushes the doors open, walking inside and searches for Bismuth's bubble. There are many others still floating here, hopefully after this is all over maybe they can be free too. But right now, they must keep the world free to make that happen.
Steven finds Bismuth's gem and jumps up, catching her with ease. Not seeing the surprise from the Crystal Gems "Alright Bismuth…please forgive me, but we need you now. More than ever."
Connie tilts her head bewildered "Steven is…more confident than usual."
Amethyst rubs her chin thoughtfully "Yeah…I guess the world potentially being under threat brings that out in him I guess."
"Amethyst, you being thoughtful still amazes me to this day" Pearl teases, touching her friend's shoulder.
Normally, Pearl would've been told to 'shut it' but to her surprise she sees Amethyst grinning "Yeah, I'm surprised too. I better see a doctor soon!"
Pearl smirks, raising a brow "Oh, shut it you."
Steven takes a deep breath and bursts the pink bubble, quickly catching Bismuth's gem and slowly placing her on the ground. He slowly steps back to his family, now it's the waiting game. Many are pondering what they should be doing at this moment in time when Bismuth reforms into her normal self. Should they have their weapons ready? Or at least be in a combat stance just in case something they couldn't predict goes south?
The Crystal Gems look at one another, then to Greg at a safe distance to avoid potential conflict. Ruby and Sapphire hold each other's hands, ready to fuse until Steven raises his hand. All of them look at the boy curiously, hearing him give a confident command "Stand down everyone! Please don't fuse or bring out any weapons unless we have to, hearts and minds."
Ruby and Sapphire look at the young boy with awe, they remember holding a gurgling baby boy in their arms to see him all grown up. They touch their chests feeling incredible pride for Steven Universe "of course, Steven" they say together.
Steven smiles without looking back but becomes serious seeing Bismuth's gem glowing bright, he couldn't help tensing his body. No confidence and determination could eliminate this initial dread, it's painful thinking about their past fight. Hearing Bismuth letting her heart out, all the pain she went through during that time with Rose Quartz, to hear what happened after being kept away from everyone for 5300 years in Pink Dimension. To Gems, this time can be almost nothing to them but no human, not even Steven could imagine losing that amount of time. The pain Bismuth felt during her time back had to be so, so painful then she let on.
Steven clenches his fists tightly 'Mom, Bismuth...we must be better!'
The gem soon glows much brighter, taking the form of a familiar figure to those who knew her. Everyone tensed, their lips tightening so much they could pass off eating lemons seeing her gem float into the air. Steven nervously exhales, standing up straight and stares forward doing his best neutral expression.
Bismuth finally takes full form mid air, appearing asleep with her eyelids fully shut and body motionless. But soft groaning can be heard, even more when Bismuth drops down hard onto the floor, groaning painfully. This makes everyone flinch, hoping that won't cause a scene already.
But Bismuth seems to stir awake, as if she had one too many drinks from the previous night. She might as well have been sliced by Steven that day. Bismuth slowly gets up onto her knees, holding her head when a small nausea hits her. It lasts extremely briefly, replaced by confusion seeing her greyish hand and the room "Huh!? I'm back!?"
"Bismuth..." Steven whispers.
Bismuth's eyes look forward in an instant, there is Steven Universe standing a few metres away. In a different room but in the same circumstances as before "Rose!" Bismuth realises it wasn't right to call him by that name, as she said herself, Steven was already better than her "I mean, Steven!"
Steven approaches Bismuth, taking small steps at a time and showing his palms "It's been a long time Bismuth, I need you to listen-"
"Why did you free me!? I tried to shatter you!"
"Look, a lot happened while you were out. I learned a lot about my mom and I done a lot, it's complicated and long. I don't know how much time we have-"
"Wait...Is that everyone behind you?" Bismuth says surprised "I don't know some of you, but I know Amethyst, Pearl..." she quickly stands up "Sapphire and Ruby unfused!?"
Ruby looks a bit worried but simply wanting to jump into Bismuth's chest, she gives a small wave "H-Hey Bismuth, it's nice to see you again even if we're in strange circumstances."
Sapphire takes a step forward, moving her hair away from her singular watery eye "Bismuth..."
Bismuth becomes overwhelmed emotionally, it's been so long since she saw Ruby and Sapphire unfused, never getting a chance before being sealed again. Bismuth opens her arms wide, tears forming in her eyes "You all shouldn't have come here! After I tried to shatter Steven! What is wrong with you all!?"
Sapphire quickly shakes her head, taking a step closer sensing Ruby besides her now "Bismuth! Please...Steven isn't angry, we're not angry at you. We just want to talk-"
But Bismuth bellows tearfully "Talk about what!? The war is lost, you all won't shatter gems in order to win while I felt it was the right thing to do! Steven said the same thing as Rose, resulting in me being imprisoned! How can you all possibly forgive me for trying to shatter your friend!? I betrayed you and I betrayed Steven!" Bismuth grits her teeth, shaking her balled fist "H-how can I forgive myself for trying to harm someone I actually called a friend!?"
Ruby slowly reaches for Bismuth's shaking fist, offering a supportive smile "You're feeling regret, that's a good start Bis, not a lot would admit that."
Pearl quickly goes up and hugs Bismuth's side "We couldn't imagine what you've been through Bismuth, but please believe when I say this. There is a lot you don't know, I kept secrets...not just from you but from everyone before, about Rose."
Bismuth looks into Pearl's eyes tearfully "Pearl, there were always a lot of things you keep secret, and you being in love wasn't a well known secret."
"No Bismuth, it's about who Rose really is-"
Everyone notices Bismuth is looking at the ceiling, their hard work has come crashing down like a train. Pearl, Ruby already see what's going through their friend's thoughts, these were gems Bismuth knew for thousands and thousands of years ago. She always had a special ability to be everyone's friend despite her powerful personality. Sapphire gasps loudly, her future vision kicked in as she tightens her hold "Bismuth! Please understand! This isn't-"
Bismuth couldn't believe her eyes, she wasn't the only gem in the Rebellion that suffered the same fate. They were all bubbled up and locked away to be forever faded, some of these gems she realises are ones met during the early days of the war. Bismuth shakes her head in disbelief "Not only did Rose put them in these cages…" she swiftly withdraws herself from these so called 'friends' "But YOU all helped her! Is it because we weren't obedient unlike you guys!? Just because our ways of winning were too much!?"
Steven tries to reason even if it's looking dire "Bismuth! You have to understand why they're actually like this in the first place!"
But Bismuth wasn't having any of it, she pointed at specific gems while glaring daggers "Steven, if you're not like Rose then you listen to me! This is wrong! That's Tiger's Eye! Little Larimar... Beryl, Serpentine, and... Biggs?!"
Out of pure instinct, Pearl summons her spear "Bismuth! Don't do what I think you're going to-"
Amethyst watches Bismuth jump up and catch a bubble containing the gem that caused some issue in the past "I think she's gonna do it Pearly. Brace yourselves!" she cracks her whip.
Steven looks back, feeling this will end very badly. Tensions are threatening, almost everyone who can fight is preparing themselves. Connie has Rose's sword ready, Lapis is floating in the air, Peridot cheering on.
Ruby and Sapphire are about to fuse together but Steven shouts at them "Stand down! Please don't do anything rash! Bismuth has to see the truth for herself if she won't believe our words! Let's get ready to jump in!"
Bismuth bursts the bubble, watching the gem float into the air "Come on Biggs! You're not a prisoner any more! Let's-...what?"
The gem transforms into a larger figure than Bismuth remembers, it didn't resemble any aspect of her old friend. It was a different kind of fusion, monstrous looking. Her arms fall down, any sense of understanding is gone. What has this life become?
Bismuth was so lost in thought, she didn't comprehend that her former friend was making a deadly charge. The creature almost strikes Bismuth down if it wasn't for Steven forming a large pink bubble around them that deflects the charge.
"STEVEN! BISMUTH!" Everyone shouts.
"NO! Don't jump in yet! I-I can handle this!" Steven pleads, watching the monstrous gem getting back up and roaring angrily "Bismuth! I'm so sorry! But you had to see for yourself, Rose and ourselves weren't imprisoning them. We were trying to keep them safe until there was a way they could return to their normal forms! That's why we don't shatter them, because they were once like you! This is the work of the Diamonds! They tried to turn the tides that corrupt gems in both Homeworld and the Rebellion on Earth!"
Bismuth continues staring at 'Biggs' horrified "They...went this far? Steven, I-" she is cut off when 'Biggs' holds Steven's pink bubble, squeezing with terrifying strength which quickly causes it to shatter.
Lapis gasps sharply "I won't let this happen!" she is going a restraining technique on the corrupted gem until she notices Bismuth transformed her hands into large mallets "What the-"
Steven fell down, dazed from the loud shattering force. He quickly regains himself and looks up, to his surprise Bismuth is holding 'Biggs' back using her mallets. Bismuth has her eyes closed feeling tears pour down her cheeks, pushing the corrupted gem's large hands away from herself and Steven. She gathers enough energy that pushes the hands away, causing a momentary pause. The corrupted gem gargles a roar before charging the duo, without looking Bismuth swiftly transforms her hand into a sharp blade and slashes who she knew as Biggs.
In an instant, it's all over. The corrupted gem poses no threat as it poofs, Biggs gem gently falls onto the ground. Bismuth stares at the gem gravely as Steven safely bubbles it "You're right, only a diamond could do this...It was Pink Diamond, wasn't it!? Why didn't Rose stop her!?"
Steven sighs softly, walking over to Bismuth holding the bubbled gem "Bismuth...its Because they're the same person."
"What? No, you're not serious" Bismuth finds herself at a loss.
At that moment, Bismuth feels herself leaving her physical form. Was Steven still telling the truth? Or was he simply making an excuse for some reason? The more she contemplated it, the less it made sense to doubt the boy. But now she brings her entire world into question, whatever anger she had with Rose before is now again in question! She was Pink Diamond after all this time, there was no logic behind this. Rose Quartz was fighting against the Diamonds and shattered Pink Diamond!
Bismuth slowly looks back, seeing Pearl approaching nervously holding her hands together "So, this is what you meant by 'a lot you don't know' and you keeping secrets" she rubs her face "And you all tried to tell me, but I did a Bismuth..."
Pearl smiles sadly "Yes, you did a Bismuth" she quickly hugs her friend "But you're our Bismuth, always will be."
Bismuth feels her lip quiver, unable to maintain composure. She covers her face, crying silently. It becomes louder when the others gently cling to her making a group hug, even Lapis, Peridot, Connie and Greg join in even if they barely knew her. Pearl gently guides Bismuth's hands over from face, Pearl holds Bismuth's face with her own hands "It's time tell you the truth, about Pink Diamond...but there is also more we have you tell you beyond that."
Bismuth sniffs softly, her eyes display confusion "Beyond Pink Diamond? Why do I get the feeling this isn't going to be pretty?"
Steven rubs his neck, wondering where to start "you're not...it's all complicated, there's a lot you won't understand. I fully don't, let's head back upstairs. We'll explain everything with Pink Diamond and my mom...and we'll call a friend, Sadie. We promised to tell her about Lars."
"Oh come on Steven, if this is so urgent shouldn't we leave Pink Diamond for another time?" said Bismuth.
Steven gives a hard stare "The world is in danger, and it isn't the Diamonds. It's something called the 'Darkness' and Seven, coming to Earth right now."
"...Okay then, I'll take that refresher Steven. Pronto."
Space, Unknown
Seven watches the ripples all across, it's visually mesmerising. This would be a beautiful painting to have on a wall, the human mind couldn't comprehend this activity or experience what it's like to go through this trip. It would've been a sensation if this be felt by all, if only the purposes were in different circumstances. She looks over to the Crystal, still hovering in its pristine form glowing red a few times. Seven still has many questions, but wonders if she will get any during her travel towards Earth, but specifically Beach City. Why there of all places? She remembers there are more significant key locations on Earth, where world leaders reside in their capitals of their respective countries. To have the entire earth within the grasp of the Darkness, it chose Beach City?
Seven speaks plainly to the floating Crystal "My lord, out of everywhere on the Earth, why Beach City? I can understand its significance because of Steven Universe, the Crystal Gems and its history...but wouldn't it be wise to take the battle in a city like New York? London? Tokyo?"
The Crystal doesn't respond, making Seven believe it chose to ignore her question...or perhaps considering if her existence is worth having around. But soon enough, it responds to her "There is much for you to learn about how this all constructs itself, you understand from what we've shown during your rebirth? There are multiple dimensions across Time and Space, multiple Earths, multiple Steven Universes. Some versions as you know, some evil, somewhere they don't exist."
Seven watches Crystal slowly floating around her "Forgive me, but that doesn't explain why you're choosing Beach City-"
"Because when we were destroyed into shards, we scattered across dimensions. Beach City was a mistake, we were searching for targets, a new warrior for our cause. We felt Steven's desires, who had a good heart inside but...shown cracks in said heart. His resolve and understanding was weakened, it was a chance to show that boy our way of life. The true purpose of the Darkness. It was then we realised the significance of Beach City, it's a Prime Location."
Seven blinks, inner conflict invades her world view "A Prime Location?"
"Let us explain something to you, Child. Earth, as you understand and believe, is a special kind of planet. It's a source of creation. A world that spans the Infinite Dimensions, imagine all variants of Steven Universe you could possibly imagine. Or imagine an Earth that resides Super Heroes from a Caped Crusader to a man in an Iron Suit or a boy who's quote, 'Invincible' if you can believe that. Usually where these 'Heroes' reside are what we call 'Prime Locations' which is-"
The corrupted Seven breathes out awestruck "...The Heart of Earth."
"Precisely, you're doing well, Child." The Crystal floats towards her "And that is why we're going to Beach City, to strike at the heart and take control of their world. We shall create a bridge for our Dimension to enter their own, and soon Steven's Universe shall succumb to the Darkness."
Seven shakes her head "The entire Dimension can't resolve around the Earth, that is impossible. It isn't even the centre of this universe. The Empire will fight to preserve themselves for all of Gem Kind."
The Crystal chuckles loudly "Oh no, the Earth is a powerful source of why many exist! It said that all of their creations are a result of a certain serial numbered Earth. Which spiralled out of control, we wish to seize this effect, and reserve it. That way, there will be no more multiple Earths, only leaving the all important one...Earth Zero."
All this revelation makes Seven step back, if her mind could melt and overload. It would explode. She holds her head, closing her eyes and shaking her body. She begins losing all sense of reality and starts laughing maniacally "THIS CANNOT BE REAL! THIS DOESN'T COMPUTE! AHAHAHAHA! EARTH ZERO!? ONE PLANET THAT MADE STEVEN UNIVERSE!? HAHAHAHA! THEN WHAT'S THE POINT IN LIFE!?"
Crystal chuckles as it watches the dark Gem lose it all, this wasn't the first it witnessed this and it will not be the last "The point in life, Child, is why we're here. To help create a point of existence, there are so many different Earths, different Dimensions, different Realms. But all of them have so much, death, destruction, chaos. There is no stability in these Dimensions, which is why we're here for you all...You may call us your destruction, you may even call us your salvation. But we are so much more than that, we are your heralds of transcendence, ushering in a new era of possibility and enlightenment."
Seven remains silent, her back still bent backwards. The Crystal now hovers above her face, continuing their speech "Our ways appear brutal, barbaric and senseless to outsiders. But when we give the gift of Darkness, they see from our perspectives, our histories, our cultures and our peoples. Those may fight the gift or reject it outright, but it will be an act of defiance. We do not accept chaos in the lawless dimensions beyond. Soon, all shall see journey to our home universe, the birth all we know and understand, The Center. When this Earth is ours, you shall visit there."
Seven intently listens to the Crystal, ready for their plan of action when storming Beach City. Part of her feels excitement for a full fledged fight against the Crystal Gems after seeing and hearing their triumphs. But wonders if she is strong enough to face a fusion? The Garnet, The Pearl and the Amethyst have proven time after time how devastating they can be.
And if Steven is starting to fuse, she can expect Stevonnie "My Lord, how do you plan your attack? I will destroy the Gems with all my fury, so shall it be done!"
Crystal chuckles "Your eagerness is most admirable, Child. The power you have been granted is definitely able to hold back those Gems. But this is a delicate matter, we shall provide you with 'support' to assist you."
"...Support, my Lord?" Seven questions.
Dark energy appears out of nowhere around Seven, small lightless stars burning and screeching viciously. There is something being formed from those dark stars, moulding into something quite familiar. Seven reaches out using her talons and delicately pulls something out from the dark star.
Seven inspects the item closely, glancing at Crystal "...You are using these? My Lord?"
Crystal's form hums, sending subtle vibrations in this small void blasting through space "Is there a problem?"
Seven frowns softly "These are going to make a harsh pitch if you want to sell the Darkness to others, my Lord…"
"While it is regrettable to go to such lengths, our collective observations determined the Crystal Gems and the humans of this Earth are quite…stubborn when it comes to change" Crystal forces the objects to retract into the void "Actions speak louder than words, they may fight for a misguided future. But in time, Child. They shall see the only future that matters."
Seven feels the object retract from her talon grip, smiling widely. But this smile has a tinge of sadness, even to her this seems too much. But it is not her place for arguments, all that must be done should be completing her tasks. And then live in her desire.
Seven stares deep into the gem, wondering what kind of power lies within "My Lord, I never asked your name?"
The Crystal remains silent, it floats into the air and shines brightly "Our name is…"
Earth, Beach City
Bismuth was only just getting to a grasp of what Pearl said about Rose Quartz being Pink Diamond. It all seems so clear now once it's laid out, but despite Bismuth knowing this all, she remained calm and even understanding. Even after thousands of years, she couldn't be angry anymore, there wasn't any need to be. Bismuth instead felt somewhat at peace with everything, even finding some humour in this all.
Pearl stares at Bismuth curiously "You don't seem angry, Bismuth?"
Bismuth laughs whole-heartedly when Pearl says that "Sure Pearl, but doesn't mean I don't wanna punch her for what she did. Even if she did what she thought was right. But what am I gonna do? I can't take it out on Steven and Rose or even Pink Diamond for that matter isn't coming back."
Ruby leans forward, hands holding with Sapphire's "You'd still punch her if she did come back though?"
"Yeah! Just a nice satisfying punch to her face, after that I would've loved to see what happens next. But a gem has to dream!" Bismuth grins happily
But when Steven Universe took his turn to speak, they all look pensive after hearing everything Steven described to them ever since he left. Sadie arrived some time ago after being called by Connie, listening to what happened with Lars that made her sob in her hands. She glares angrily at Steven, yelling loudly "Y-You could've prevented all of this if you didn't-" but quickly covers her mouth.
Steven Universe stares at his friend sadly, making no excuses for himself "I'm sorry Sadie, you're right. I shouldn't have done this, Lars would've been safe here."
Sadie sniffs, wiping her face "N-No, you did something stupid but so did Lars by trying to stop you. Even if he was doing the right thing. Tell me Steven, is he really okay? How will he get back?"
"I can only promise Lars is being looked after by the Off Colours, and you have to believe it Sadie. I wasn't lying about his actions, he really did risk himself to save those gems and didn't even know them. Lars...really did say all those words, I remember every single. I was his Hero...from him, that means a lot."
Sadie covers his mouth, trying to hide a quivering lip "What you said did sound like Lars..." she chuckles sadly.
"I'm not sure how we'll get him back Sadie, but I promise you he'll come back somehow" Steven smiles confidently.
Peridot interjects this dour sounding topic "You can trust your Peridot will figure a way to get that Clod Lars back! Just give me some time and more data, I'll figure it out! After all...I still have the coordinates for that other planet!"
Bismuth clears his throat "Listen gang, I'm sorry about your friend. I'm no tech gem but I'll do what I can to forge something useful to aid you all. But Steven, you mentioned this Yellow Pearl, once an original that was Yellow Diamond's. She goes by Seven, right?"
Steven nods firmly "Yeah, she's no joke guys. I wish I could just show you how scary and crazy strong she is. But she was corrupted by a dark power, she called it 'The Darkness' that made her so strong! But please, I know what I told you about her seems like a crazy monster wanting to destroy us all...but she isn't a monster."
Pearl's jaw drops, wishing her sense of hearing wasn't working for that statement "She isn't a monster!? You just described to us all in amazing detail, a gem that was corrupted by a supernatural power beyond our comprehension. If what she told you was true, she single handedly destroyed the Yellow and Blue Diamonds! I don't care if it helps us, Seven became a bigger threat! She tried to convince you to join this corrupted supernatural power and when you didn't, Seven struck down Lars, struck your back and sent you all to Homeworld! And now she has the Crystal, who knows what she'll either wish for, her plans of using it against us, the Diamond Empire and the universe! How is she not a monster!?"
Amethyst is the one speaking up, having enough hearing this panicking "Shut up Pearl! Didn't you listen to Steven at all? She didn't kill him or Lars, in fact, Seven spared their lives! She could've easily took them both down or forced them into joining the Darkness and turning them against us!" she rubs her neck "Look, I'm not saying she hasn't done some bad acts or trying to say attacking Lars and Steven was a good thing, I wanna beat the daylights outta her for harming them! But wanting to explore the known universe? Her desire to find the unknown and be a beloved figure to all? Yeah, she's got an ego but she has her own dreams. And if Steven heard her right which I gotta believe the little man, Seven respected Steven. If she didn't, would she really have let those two live?"
Lapis counters Amethyst "But sending them to Homeworld isn't exactly mercy!"
The purple gem shrugs nonchalantly "She could've sent them in the void of space, did ya think about that?"
Peridot grumbles at Amethyst from the makeshift computers "You have no idea how much she thinks about everyone's well being."
"Trust me Peri, I do."
Sapphire ponders Amethyst's perspective of the matter, for how crude and brash she could be. She was the most human out of all the gems here "Amethyst is correct everyone-"
"Thank you!~" Amethyst grins proudly.
A small look of irritation is on Sapphire's face, Ruby can't resist grinning while looking away. Last thing she needs is an excuse to be scolded by her cool lover "Go on, Sapphire" says Ruby.
"...She is correct, yes. But that still doesn't explain why Homeworld of all places? And trying to convince Steven to join this 'Darkness' so much so she insisted his friends and family could join. She knows we're obstacles in her way, instead of destroying them...she tried reasoning. Was this what Seven wanted or was this the Darkness?"
Bismuth was listening intently, this all seems complicated after being away for so long. And to her regret, this is out of her comfort zone. All this talk about a potentially greater power than the Diamonds themselves, and now having to worry about a gem who was once a servant of Yellow Diamond 'died' in space. Only for this greater power to bring her not only new life but new power.
This Seven can apparently travel across space? And she's coming to Earth? Bismuth clenches her teeth so tightly. Everyone in the room faces her worryingly except Connie touches the gem's large hand "Bismuth, it's okay. You're not alone any more."
Bismuth felt surprised when Connie comforted her, only knowing each other for less than an hour. Yet this young girl approached her with a supportive smile. Not alone any more? Bismuth smiles brightly at Connie "Hey little Miss Connie, I don't even know you, hope after this is all over I can know you. Seems like a fair deal?"
Connie delightfully smiles making a new friend "Deal!"
Bismuth observes a familiar pink sword Connie was holding in the Bubble Room, gazing at Steven "Wasn't that Rose's sword? You got the shield Steven but not the sword? Didn't you use it against me last time?"
Steven lowers his head, rubbing the neck "Uh, yeah. I actually gave it to Connie so she could practise her sword training, and eventually Pearl became her mentor."
Pearl lifts up her chin proudly, placing her hand on the chest "She is a brilliant student, she will surprise you Bismuth!"
Bismuth shows off a fiery grin, folding her arms "Here I was going to suggest making your girlfriend a personal sword so you can take Rose into the battle ahead. But I guess you won't accept either?"
Connie and Steven instantly blush, they look into one another's eyes and cover their eyes. Hoping to hide from the embarrassment in front of everyone. If only they could drown out the amused laughter from everyone in the room. But the heartbeats flutter when peeking at one another from the tabs in-between their fingers. A lovely warmth fills their chests, something swirls in their stomachs.
Bismuth darts her head at everyone in the room laughing, feeling worried she said something wrong again "Uh, sorry? Can you tell me what I said was wrong? Wait, are they together or?"
Greg Universe winks at the rainbow haired gem "Not officially, but they're getting there!"
"Dad!/Greg!" Steven and Connie shyly yelp.
Bismuth pauses, suddenly bellowing a strong laughter that fills the room. She slaps her knee and wipes a tear away "Okay, I get it. I won't push further, because as much as I'd love to continue this. We better do it when we stop whatever happens next."
Steven quickly becomes serious, he steps off the coach and looks around him "Alright guys, once again I'm sorry it all came to this. But it's happened and I have to face this, but I want...no...I need you all. I understand if anyone wants to back out. Seven and the Darkness isn't a joke, she isn't like any gem we fought before. She is dangerous and prepared to kill. I don't want to shatter her, I want to bubble her if at all possible but..." Steven lowers his head, whispering glumly "...Even someone like her deserves another chance."
Everyone stares at the boy in utter shock, but a huge wave of respect surges through them "Steven..." they whisper.
Steven shoots his head up, those hopeful eyes have now become bold and brave. Steven points at Sadie, now speaking confidently "Sadie, I'm sorry to ask this of you. You deserve more than I can give, but we need you to help everyone evacuate Beach City. Can you do this for us?"
Sadie is gobsmacked, who is this brave young boy standing in front of her "R-Right! I-I'll make sure to spread the message, but I don't know if they'll all listen. But I'll try! And everyone, Steven...Thank you" she runs off to warn the others.
Steven turns to everyone else in the room "Same for you guys, if you're able please tackle Main Street, Broadwalk Street, Sussex Road and Beach City Highway. The rest we have to do whatever we can to make sure there aren't any stranglers or people trying to be brave. We can't afford to take any risks, this has to be the final stand! The Earth may not thank us but it'll remember us throughout time and space! We won't fall into the Darkness!"
Everyone cheers loudly after Steven's impressive strong speech, he raises his hands "Let's make sure we all meet up at 'It's a Wash' after everyone has evacuated. Peridot, have you got any way for us to keep in contact with you?"
Peridot gives a thumbs up "Those walkie talkies should do just fine! Make sure we have them on before you all go out. I'll keep comms up here and inform you on what's going on. And for the love of Glob don't change frequencies! I ages getting those dumb machines to function!" She watches everyone take a walkie talkie, turning them on. If any didn't understand, Peridot quickly instructed on what to press.
Lapis pats Peridot's shoulder. She looks over at everyone and forms watery wings "I'll go help as well, this city won't fall. We got this!" Lapis gives a thumbs up and flies out of an open window.
Connie stands up "Don't worry, I'll help. My dad will listen and help evacuate everyone, the Police should be able to get everyone out in time!" Connie looks at Steven "I can also see if we set up any defences in the area if anyone is able to help out?"
Pearl cracks her knuckles and smiles proudly "Steven, Connie...you two are matured so much. I am so proud of you." she gives the two a hug "I'll help with the evacuations and see what we can do to prepare. We'll all meet "
Amethyst chuckles loudly, hugging them as well "You're not seriously gonna leave me behind are ya?!"
Steven and Connie are being pressed against each other. They see they're inching closer together, their faces nearly touching. Their cheeks burn so bright they become lamps, Steven tries informing them "G-guys? M-Me and Connie are getting r-really close-"
But Greg Universe had other plans, being the proud parent he is. Runs over and joins the hug "I'm also proud of you two!"
The young duo find themselves being pressed against each other, their bodies touching and foreheads resting on one another. Their blushes spread across the faces, the shadow is phased out by those red lights. Their breathing becomes shy, butterflies in their stomachs, Connie tries squeaking out "G-G-Guys? W-We're about to...to..."
Ruby gasps seeing those two looking like they'll be crushed, she is preparing for an intervention but Sapphire stops her "Sapphire? They're getting carried away!"
Sapphire shakes her head, holding her hands together and smiles heartwarmingly "If you do, then this future vision won't come true."
Bismuth looks at the group hug, feeling bashful about this. She steps forward with her hands behind her back "T-That looks like fun! Can I...join in?"
Steven and Connie's eyes grow wide in horror "W-wait..." they whisper, knowing what will happen if-
"Well what are you waiting for!? Join the group hug, Biz!" Amethyst laughs.
"W-W-Wait!" Steven and Connie shout together only for that to fall on deaf ears.
Bismuth grins widely and transforms her arms to group hug everyone. She squeezes tightly, enough for Greg to feel comfortable with but for Steven and Connie. They become pressed together so much, they feel their faces on one another. Their pupils become smaller, their hearts racing like never before. Whatever thoughts are racing through their minds resemble flashes of light.
Steven Universe and Connie finally realise what has happened. They are kissing each other on the lips. The two of them stare into their surprised eyes, but slowly close them halfway. Connie finds herself overwhelmed with emotion, she pushes her lips further. Steven blushes darkest red, he finds Connie's hands and intertwines their fingers together gently kissing Connie back.
They fully close their eyes, their hearts beat calmly. The embrace, while present, wasn't felt any more. They are together in their own small world on the beach outside, the sun slowly setting as the waves gently crash behind them. Feeling a beautiful warmth inside their chests gives inner peace, forgetting the troubles around them for a brief moment. But their kiss is soon interrupted when this group hug disbands, the force which made them kiss now retracts Steven and Connie. They gasp softly for air, opening their eyes and seeing they're still holding hands.
Pearl didn't seem to notice what happened between Connie and Steven "I'll make a head start for Central, you have the Coastal area Connie!" she says, running out the door.
"O...Okay Pearl" Connie whispers, staring into Steven's eyes lovingly.
Ruby stares at her lover Sapphire, a cute little smile is present "What did you see in that future vision?"
Sapphire covers mouth to suppress her giggling "I saw…this~" she presses her lips against Ruby's lips.
Ruby is momentarily surprised, but quickly figures out everything. She kisses back, romantically holding Sapphire before slowly pulling away "You're a sneaky one, aren't you?"
"Again, I learned from the best~" she laughs with Ruby.
Greg smiles at the two, seemingly not noticing their hand holding as he pats their heads "I don't know how much I can help but I'm not sitting back! I'll give a holler in the van!" he says, running out of the same door as well.
Amethyst smirks widely knowing all too well what transpired with Steven and Connie. She snickers "Hey Greg! Wait up! I wanna be in the van with you!" she hollers, chasing after Greg.
Peridot glances towards the much smaller group, typing furiously on the keyboards "Still tracking as we speak! They'll be here in an hour or less so we should prepare ourselves! Haven't gotten any landing spots yet!"
Bismuth looks at Ruby and Sapphire, she punches her fist into an open palm "An hour? Ha! You know what, I'm going to make some upgrades for us! Not like I got anything else to do, besides, everyone seems happy with their weapons as is, if you need me I'll be in the...Bubble Room!" she is going to jog off until Peridot calls out from her seat,
"Wait! I wanna talk to you about making some ideas I've been thinking about like a weapon and improving this Roaming Eye?" says Peridot.
Bismuth turns around, looking over the Roaming Eye and Peridot quizzically "Uh, no offence...Peridot? Armour perhaps, Melee weapons sure. You all are advanced and I'm not really into that-"
"I-I'll be there to guide you every step of the way! Just have a look at what I conjured up, p...please?" Peridot begs and claps her hands together.
Bismuth scratches her head worryingly "I mean, uh...I don't think-" she sighs defeated "Alright, I'll bite. Let's see what you got over there" Bismuth walks to a very happy Peridot.
Steven and Connie touch each other's faces ever so gently, so entranced with the kiss. It was magic, they finally gone beyond friendship. Steven touches Connie's soft hand "Connie, I'm...I didn't mean to force you into something you weren't comfortable with...I...was hoping to do this properly."
Connie giggles loudly, smiling warmly "To be honest Steven. I feel that was needed, I...felt love for you for some time now...I don't think we minded, did you?" she strokes his cheek.
Steven blushes bright red as Connie is being so gentle and calm. He does the same, making her blush just as red "I didn't mind, no...I'm so glad to have you in my life Connie. I promise, I'll do everything I can to protect you and our family. I-I...love you Connie!"
Connie is overwhelmed with joy when hugging Steven tightly, she feels herself being picked up by Steven "I-I love you too Steven! You're such a sweet-...wait? Did you say...F...Family?"
"...Y...Yeah? I-Isn't that what couples do?" Steven tilts his head.
Connie covers her face from embarrassment, not expecting that he thought this out so much "I just didn't realise how much you thought about having children, Steven."
Steven begins processing the situation he created, gently puts Connie down and hides his face into her shoulder "O-Oh...well...I...still hope one day, to have a happy family with you."
Connie breathes out in hopes of regaining her calm, but her face feels incredibly warm even still. She kisses his forehead, giving a nice supportive hug and whispers in his ear "Steven, I-I want to have a happy family too. T-Thank you for being so thoughtful."
Sapphire and Ruby approach the new couple standing before them with parental grins on their faces. Ruby pats Connie's arm "Look at you two! Finally being a couple! It took you long enough! We were wondering if we'd have to put you in a romance scenario like Lady and the Ramp!"
Sapphire swoons in her own hands "You have no idea how proud and happy we are of you two. Especially you Steven, seeing you as a baby in our arms, making your first steps, playing guitar and singing on the beach to us..." Sapphire moves some hair away from her eye, it's watery looking "I'm sorry we couldn't give you a normal life under us Gems. You deserved a life of your choosing, but apologising to you isn't right. I really should be saying, Thank you Steven. For doing so much for us all at your age being a human. Each and everyone of us are proud of you.
Ruby smiles proudly towards Steven "Yeah, sure you made some small to grave mistakes. But sometimes you gotta make mistakes in order to learn more about yourself and life around you I guess? We're still mad at you for leaving! But, you had a lot going on you didn't want to burden us with. But we're your friends Steven, we're not perfect sure but more than willing to help you in whatever ways we can! We're not your parents but we love you no matter what."
Sapphire hugs Ruby's arm "Yes, we love you as if you were our own. You're family, Steven."
Steven slowly approaches Ruby and Sapphire to embrace them tightly. He feels the wonderful warmth of Ruby and the calm cold of Sapphire, he sheds no tears this time but instead offers a loving smile when meeting their eyes "You've been the best mothers I could ask for. Thank you Sapphire and Ruby, and to Garnet. I love you all."
Steven embraces Ruby and Sapphire together which they return with kisses to the boy's soft cheeks. They all group hug each other, Sapphire and Ruby start glowing brightly together, their bodies slowly merging into one another and growing taller. The figure stops glowing, the kisses are now on Steven's forehead. The glowing ceases and shows a tall and familiar Garnet, she opens of three eyes and meets Steven's own. Garnet holds his face and smiles proudly, the return of her calm English accent fills a space in the boy's heart "Steven Universe, we'll follow you to the end. Let's stand up to the Darkness and forge our own Futures."
Steven nods "For our own Futures."
Bismuth looks away from Peridot's computer seeing those two fuse together, some things just never get old. Fusions look so beautiful when it's done the right way, Bismuth always felt happy for them being together as Garnet "Nice to see you again Garnet-" she is cut off by Peridot shoving schematics and notes in Bismuth's hands.
Peridot calls out loudly while Bismuth looks over Peridot's notes with great interest "50 minutes left! If you're going through with the plan, best do it now!" she presses a key and speaks into a microphone "Peridot to everyone on this channel! How is everything going?"
Lapis is the first to say "So far, so good! But a lot aren't really taking this seriously, I won't force them unless I have to. Could really use Connie's dad to help us officially!"
Pearl speaks through "Same here! They seem to think it's just like any other day!"
Amethyst yells into the microphone, causing Peridot wincing "YEAH! No matter how cool we are, they're not budging!"
Connie quickly grabs Rose Quartz sword, resting it on her shoulder "I better do my part!" she grabs her walkie talkie "On my way!"
Steven goes over to Connie, touching her shoulder "We, are on our way" he winks.
Garnet uses her fingers to swipe in front of her eyes, a visor appears returning to her old self "Don't take this the wrong way. It'll be faster if I carry you two, buckle up. We're about to make a mad dash across Beach City."
Steven and Connie are grabbed by Garnet's strong arms. Carrying them along as she sprints out of the door "Here we go!"
Bismuth gives a thumbs up "Don't have too much fun without me! See you all out there! Come on you little one, let's try and get these weird creations of yours to life!"
Peridot huffs "They are not weird!
When Garnet reaches the outside of the porch, she kneels down and prepares herself for a powerful jump up the statue. Or as Steven loves to say 'Jump Good' that gets a giggle out of him even now. But suddenly, as soon as Garnet blasts herself off the wooden floor, Steven notices an older looking man wearing a green trench coat, round glasses, greyish black hair, a white shirt with a green tie under a green vest.
He couldn't make out other facial features, nor did the figure say anything. Simply removing a hand from the trench coat's pocket and opening the palm. A small bright looking star appears and floats to Steven, entering the boy's chest. Then whispers fill the boy's mind 'Let it be your guide for all.'
Before Steven can say anything his air is forced out when Garnet bravely jumps in the air jumping upward thanks to the statue. He notices the stranger is still standing there but now watching them jump away. He blinks quickly but as soon as he opens his eyes, the stranger is gone "Guys! Didn't you see a man standing there before you jumped off?"
Connie tries looking down but can barely see where they were anymore "I didn't Steven, sorry!"
Garnet glances back as well but doesn't see anything either "Peridot will have to sort whoever you saw, I'm sure she'll be fine without us. Besides, she has Bismuth."
Steven stares down as Garnet jumps higher and higher for Beach City "Hopefully they won't cause any hard times."
Space, Gateway to Earth
Seven and the crystal are staring through the gateway forming an image of planet Earth. Forming a small bridge that will connect to Beach City.
Seven feels her talons twitching at the sight that the crystal must've noticed "What troubles you, Child?" they ask.
Seven approaches the gateway "That pale blue dot, can you imagine everything that it's gone through in its life? So much history for a race of people that isn't like Gemkind. From living in caves, to waging battles against one another, making medicine to cure themselves. Suffering from natural disasters and constant interference from the Diamond Empire being run by Pink Diamond. Then Rose Quartz destroyed Pink Diamond which sent ripples throughout space lasting all time with all Gems. Where was that all history forged? What became a thorn in the Diamonds' sides?"
Seven points to the Earth, her talon finger had become normal "That planet, that pale blue dot suspended in a sunbeam in a mote of dust…"
The crystal floats beside her, observing themselves getting closer to Earth "Now you see why our interests in the Earth are not in vain. And how special Beach City has become? The Prime Location. On that 'pale blue dot' called Earth.
The gateway shows a different image, a bird's eye view of Beach City. The two can observe people rushing around in their vehicles or running down the streets in hopes of leaving the city.
The crystal chuckles softly "What a shame, they won't be able to witness the Future. No matter, all shall see once we're done here."
Seven's eyes dart at movements, seeing those people run away gives a strange satisfaction inside but at the same time it didn't feel right 'Is this what I want? Is this how I want to be remembered? No, but...I can start over after this is finished.'
The dark Gem turns around facing the crystal "Do you have a zone you wish to land on?"
"Oh yes, we have. The Lighthouse on top of the cliff shall be perfect."
Seven nods swiftly "I have a feeling why you chose that location specifically, but are you still not concerned when the Crystal Gems eventually strike? Their Fusions are quite devastating..."
The crystal responds with sharp annoyance "...Then answer devastation with devastation, Child. Do what you're told, uphold your service to us and you shall be rewarded. You do not wish to fail us. Do you?"
Seven clenches his fist tightly and responds calmly "I...won't fail."
"Good, now prepare yourself. The bridge shall soon be complete."
Steven runs across the street, rapidly darting his head sideways hoping nobody is straggling or left behind. The last 30 minutes was truly an eventual one to say the least, Connie's father truly proved to be a great help evacuating the people of Beach City. While the majority of the people complied for their own safety, there were some that didn't wish to run away from the homes they grew up in since their residency and/or birth. The city's value inside their minds was something that couldn't be replaced by building everything again.
Steven thinks back after Mayor Nanefua Pizza declared a State of Emergency after talking to him and to himself and Garnet. He was worried hearing a few refused to leave, but the patience of the police officers somehow managed to convince them to evacuate. But perhaps most wouldn't want to disagree with the Crystal Gems since they had abilities and incredible, their show of prowess was all it needed to convince them.
Steven Universe split up from Garnet after seeing the mayor, covering more ground would be wiser until Seven arrives. But he questions himself, continuing running through street after street, if Seven had all the shards necessary to have that mythical wish...wouldn't she have made it by now? Thinking back on the planet Acirema, the Darkness had an interest in him, how she promised it would protect his family, friends and the planet Earth. Even promising to end the conflict with the Diamond Empire, Seven went so far as guaranteeing an audience for a leader of this Darkness alongside her. In return, become loyal and follow the Darkness.
Clenching his teeth, Steven so fast he leaves a dust trail 'That has to be it, Seven is bringing it all by force. And they're doing it all here! The only thing I know to set things right is bringing the fight to them! I want Seven to be free, but I won't give up my world's freedom for control!'
Steven stops dead in his tracks, he notices a group of friends is running down the road holding luggage, he runs over to them, grabbing his radio "Steven here! I found three more! It's Jenny Pizza, Sour Cream and Buck Dewey in Thayer Street! Copy?"
Another voice speaks through, it's Peridot's "Roger roger! Sending a ping for the police, good work Steven. That should be everyone! Bismuth is on her way, I'll be joining you all soon, over and out!"
Steven waves at the trio "Heeey! What're you all still doing here? Didn't you hear the mayor's state of emergency? You should've left ages ago, your families are waiting outside the city!"
Jenny and her friends stop in front of Steven catching their breath "We heard Steven, we just needed supplies and some backup plans. Cause if this city is going to ruin, we better have something planned afterwards-"
Sour Cream looks away grimly "If there is an afterword-"
"Knock it off Sour Cream!" Jenny urges "Keep your heads cool and give some respect to the Crystal Gems, they're doing everything they can to keep us and the world safe!"
Steven waves his hands nervously "Don't argue guys, just grab your stuff and get out of here!"
Buck who isn't wearing his shades, looking intense but also worried "What about you and everyone Steven? Tell us this is just some fight you'll easily win, right?"
Steven shakes his head "No, I won't say how easily it'll be won. But I promise you this, it'll be won soon. Now get out of here!"
The group hears police sirens drawing in, a car skids around a corner and stops behind Steven. Doug Maheswaran quickly exits his vehicle and gestures to them "Come on! Get inside!"
Connie rushes out, sword on shoulder and stands at Steven's side, hugging him with one arm "That should be everyone! We don't have much time for advanced traps but at this rate, it looks like an old fashioned fight."
Sour Cream looks at Steven and ruffles his hair "Good luck, I'll make sure Onion knows what's happening. See you soon!" he says, running past him.
Buck smiles and pats Steven's shoulder "Go get em' Steven, be safe!" he says, dashing past him.
Jenny quickly kneels down and hugs Steven "I should be dragging your b-hind into that squad car with us, but that'd be ruining the world's chances of surviving. Just...be careful, alright? You'll get some free pizzas on me" she smiles and kisses his forehead.
Connie pouts her cheeks slightly, narrowing her eyes when Steven received a kiss on the forehead
Steven doesn't react to the kiss and hugs her back "You try and be good while you're out there, okay" he grins.
Jenny laughs loudly, clearly amused by his words "Be good!? Nah, ain't no way I'm not a bad girl! You gotta be tough if you wanna survive! But...I'll keep my family safe, you can bet on that" she runs past Steven and Connie and waves "Oh, congrats on you two getting together!"
Connie blushes brightly and spins around seeing Jenny about to step in the car "Huh!? How did you figure that out already!?"
Jenny laughs even more, shooting them a smug expression "It's no secret you two liked each other for some time, and besides...I've seen those jealous looks before! And...I took a wild guess!" she winks with a cheeky grin, stepping inside the police car.
Connie covers his face into Steven's shoulder, he just smiles until Doug doesn't step into the car "Connie? You sure you're not coming? I can't force you but as your father, you really should. I'm your father and I can't see my pride and joy-...Connie, this doesn't seem like a routine invasion. But a threat against the world by one figure, this is insane! Your mother-" Doug covers his face "Your mother is worried but...demands you return home safe, including you Steven."
Connie's shoulders slump, she didn't expect to hear that from her mother "W-What? I know she was more relaxed about me being part of the Crystal Gems but I didn't think she'd give her blessings!"
Doug shakes his head "Not her blessing, she never allowed this but at the same time, she couldn't disallow it. And I like to think, even if we said no, you would've ignored our wishes and fought alongside your friends. So, as much as it hurts for me to say this..." he hugs Connie tightly "Come home Connie. Promise me, please."
Connie clenches on her father's jacket tightly, hugging him back "I...I promise dad."
Doug gives a look only a father can give towards Steven "Same goes for you Steven, make sure she comes home…and you too" he says, shaking Steven's hand.
"I understand, good luck and be careful, sir" Steven offers a small smile.
Doug stands back up "Shouldn't those words come from me?" he jokes, returning to his vehicle "Good luck!"
Connie and Steven wave goodbye until the car leaves their vision. They turn to face each other, Connie wiping his face with a cloth "We've both worked up a sweat, we haven't even begun."
Steven chuckles, touching her hand "It was all worth it, everyone should be safe. Now, we wait and see where Seven will land. Let's call the others!" the boy grabs the walkie talkie "Guys? How's everything going?"
Multiple voices answer consecutively, Garnet is first "All clear, checking out for key locations under potential threat. All citizens are clear here" when she ends the line, she gasps and looks into the sky
"What in the world? I better call this in-" soon as Garnet grabs the device, it explodes "What the?!"
"Pearl here! Nobody here but me! I'll meet you up when I've done another sweep, out!" but when she closes the call, she hears sounds of something dense hitting the ground behind her "What...is that?" suddenly her walkie talkie explodes.
"Amethyst here, your dad and I scouted out a few times, got folk off their butts and sent em' running outta here! Aww come on Greg! You know you enjoyed this!~" Steven can hear his dad trying to weakly protest. But not long enough after she ends the call the walkie talkie explodes.
Amethyst and Greg yell loudly but soon as they witness the van's front window being cracked by some object smacking into it, this causes Greg to swerve the vehicle into a street light.
It took a moment until Lapis spoke through the device "Lapis here! I'm doing another sweep of the area just in case! But everything seems in the clear, out!" As soon as she ends communication, a hard object hits her head, causing Lapis to tumble in the air "Ow! What the!?"
She looks down below, wondering if someone was throwing a rock at her. But didn't see anyone, it couldn't have been a regular human. She was flying at a great height and great speed, it must've come from...above? Lapis looks into the sky, what she sees forces her hand to cover her mouth, she manages to catch a falling object and closely inspects it "This is...a dead gem? Wait, all those falling are dead gems!?" she goes to speak into her walkie talkie, but it bursts causing negligible damage to her hand "What's...going on?"
Steven smiles at Connie and speaks into the walkie talkie "Good work everyone! We're more than ready to take on whatever comes our way. Peridot, how much time do you have left?"
"You've got 14 minutes! Bismuth has already installed some upgrades to our machinery! That armour and that weapon looks...tubular! Oh, she made a sword of some kind. She'll be on her way too!" Peridot keeps typing on her keyboards "Huh? That's odd, I thought I'd get an accurate point of entry from them? And why is the timer going crazy?"
Steven feels Connie giving a strange look after hearing Peridot, that didn't sound good "Peridot, it's me Steven again. What do you mean by the last two?"
Peridot groans loudly and touches her head, frustration kicking in "I can't get a good idea where they'll land or see how long it'll take! It's as if my system is being jammed or something! Give me a few-" the line suddenly cuts Peridot off.
"Well that doesn't give me an imbued sense of relief" Connie whispers to Steven.
Steven nods grimly "Yeah, I don't wanna make any assumptions here but I have a bad feeling about this, we gotta keep on eye out if anything changes. I'll contact-"
But he was suddenly cut off seeing Seven besides a floating crystal that is still in its full form, much earlier than expected. They both stand besides in front of the Lighthouse, Seven's body language suggests talking to herself or the crystal. Steven gasps loudly, she must be using it to grant her wish! He summons his shield and throws it towards Seven as if it was a flying disk.
Connie instead of questioning Steven, unsheathed her sword, ready to strike.
This looks like the one Steven talked about, and wasn't about to take any chances "I'll let the others know!" she grabs her walkie talkie but a falling object collides with it and hit the ground, causing the walkie talkie to explode
"Connie!? Are you alright!?" Steven checks to see if she was hurt by that sudden explosion, then sees a gem on the ground "What?"
But he is cut short when sensing his shield is blasting down the hill towards him, spinning so fast it sounds like a whirlwind. Steven's pupils grow small, having a small time frame to react, he steps forward and makes a quick side step. He turns his body to the right, barely dodging his own shield. He reaches out for the handle, grabbing it by a hair's breadth. Steven spins around by the sheer projectile force yet quickly regaining his stance and his vision swaying.
Connie barely had time to react herself, only managing to watch Steven catch his shield at the last minute "Steven!" She prepares a battle stance, fully concentrating.
The two of them see the shadowy figure known as Seven glaring at them with her bright red eyes, her black hair waving like smoke. Connie heard enough from Steven to see why she looks intimidating, wondering how someone like her could have any redeeming qualities.
Seven isn't smiling or grinning wickedly, replaced by shock and surprise seeing Steven standing before her "How did you-...I'm surprised you're still alive and back on this planet at all, Steven."
Steven intensely stares in Seven's eyes, no longer intimidated by her at all "I'm starting to realise I'm full of surprises, give it up Seven. It's over!"
Seven chuckles loudly, her signature grin returns "Over? Oh Steven, this is only the beginning~"
Steven notices the crystal is floating besides her, he glares into her eyes "What are you going to wish for Seven? What could you possibly wish for that the Darkness could want?"
Seven smiles widely, tilting her head sideways "Wish? Oh! Yes, the wish! Well...How do I explain this Steven?" she inspects her talons "This crystal doesn't grant you a wish."
"...W...What?" Steven blinks.
The Dark Pearl looks over to the floating crystal "Now, please don't think of me as a liar! But when I said they could grant you any wish, I did mean it! But that wish isn't like from some fairy tale, oh no! It's the person inside the crystal that can make your wishes a reality. In order words, there is no magic involved. They would have to find physical means."
Steven shakes his head, feeling hurt and furious "Wait a minute! That's not true! Crystal talked to me! They told me about dangers, they said if I brought them together they'd grant a wish!"
Seven sighs heavily and shrugs "If you won't listen to me, maybe you'll listen to this crystal?"
The crystal glows brightly, it speaks clearly without distortion "What she told you is the truth, Steven Universe."
The voice coming from the crystal made Connie jump back, readying her sword to strike "Steven! We have to prepare! Steven!?"
Steven's world is crumbling around him, the crystal is actually talking aloud and not in some dream. But those words shook him in places long forgotten "Crystal? What...Who...are you?"
The crystal floats into the air and glows bright red, it's voice booming across Beach City "We are the Darkness! I am Duke Batis, son of Lord Aegithina! Steven Universe! Do not presume I am ungrateful for your kindness and dedication taking care of my fragmented soul! If it wasn't for you and your friends, I wouldn't have been united as one! Do not consider using those little devices that aren't going to work, we've seen to that!"
Seven watches Steven closely, her talons twitch. She gauges his reactions as Batis speaks, but she also keeps a close eye on Connie and points to her "Don't even think about doing something stupid, girl."
Connie frowns deeply, pointing her sword's tip to touch Seven's talon point "Funny, I was about to say the same thing."
This causes the gem to grin wickedly "Oooh, You're quite the fighter, girl. But you're only human, remember that."
The self proclaimed Duke ignores the taunting between the two, remaining it's focus on Steven "Steven Universe! I have made my intentions clear to Seven! But I shall explain this to you all now! I am not your enemy but a friend to the Crystal Gems, Humanity and all of Gem Kind! If Seven didn't convince you, I shall do so!" Batis slowly floats down to Steven, approaching him "Steven, listen to me...The offer still stands, we can bring your mother back, we can give protection under the Darkness that extends to everyone and everything. Myself and The Darkness can help end this pathetic conflict between your people and the so-called Diamond Empire...And yes, you shall be able to meet us in our realm. You can represent the Earth...but you must swear an oath to me. You shall become a loyal member of the Darkness and shall be called upon."
Steven looks down, shaking his head "You're...just trying to take over the world and creating your own empire by expanding your influence. You've corrupted Seven! I don't care how you put it, what you've done is wrong! You've twisted her into something she isn't!"
Seven winces for a moment, her pointed talon trembles hearing Steven speaking out for her 'Steven...I don't deserve this.'
Connie notices the sway from Steven words on the dark gem, she witnesses hurt, regret and anger 'She...does feel regret. But, Batis must have some control over her if he brought her to life! There has to be a way of freeing her!'
Batis glows brightly, shining red light onto Steven's small stature "Steven, I wasn't always in this form. I was struck down by an entity once known as 'The Light' in our realm. We've been embedded in a war that has lasted for as long as time. We understand your pain."
Connie scoffs "You seriously think we're going to buy 'The Light' is evil? You can't float there and say The Darkness are like saints! Steven already told us what we needed to know about you!"
"Not enough, apparently. For you see, The Light isn't what you're envisioning. Like us, we shared our complexities from within. We both tried to live in co-existence, but the Light demanded to spread its influence across time and space, proclaiming they uphold Justice and Freedom for all life. The Darkness also spreads its influence, we promise Order and Strength to all! The Light was blind to the chaos they allowed that tore planets apart from within, allowing these so called 'Freedoms' to run rampant in different societies, many persevered but much more couldn't. When we demanded why the light didn't step in to stop them, they didn't wish to interfere with their ways of life!"
Batis becomes agitated but tries to remain calm "But we The Darkness, Steven and Connie, bring Order to lawless universes and give those with no strength the means to stand for themselves while the Light allows universes to collapse! You may think our methods are extreme or try and use Seven as a prime example. Not many can withstand the gift when we give it to them. It can be overwhelming, it could cause unintentional harm. But look at Seven now, she was once dead caused by her Diamond and comrades! And no, I didn't kill her, she entered an aura of mine that was out of control. But, we brought her back, and I vow to you all in time, Seven shall lead a life of her own choosing and find her true happiness and future. I hope to bring you, your friends and family, and to all life in this universe the gift of the Darkness!"
Connie shakes her head furiously "No! What you're offering isn't order, it's all about control! I don't know what went between you and this 'Light' but we don't want any part of this!"
Batis ignores Connie and is close to Steven's face "Steven, please...we're giving you another chance. No more fighting, no more wars, your mother...we the Darkness, can bring her back. This is not a lie, you have nothing to lose. Allow me to open a Gate in this world, a bridge shall be formed across time and space, a Gate in my dimension shall open, letting us cross over to your dimension and planet."
Steven's face is covered by shadow, taking everything in the Duke Batis said. It all sounded amazing, perfect even. A world without danger seems pretty nice, and all humans and gems can get along to live and love each other. And maybe save all the corrupted gems and build a perfect life?
But Steven uses his shield and smacks Batis away, causing him to make a surprised grunt and create distance between himself and Steven "Batis, you don't understand. Your vision of the future doesn't work, I don't know and probably won't ever know how deep this war between ideals against the light is. But what they tried to give is freedom, to live the way we want. You're right, it isn't perfect but so is life, it's up to the people to decide what kind of future they want for themselves and their kids. If we really wanna live in a universe where you guys have to give influence using your darkness and constant guidance? You're not really giving us a future for ourselves no matter how noble you think this all is. The friends I made along the way, some on good grounds and others not so much. But I treasure every single encounter, including you, Batis. And you as well, Seven. I'm sorry, but I can't let you build a Bridge, the Gate has to remain closed."
Batis stares into Steven's soul, perfectly quiet. Seven on the other hand grits her teeth heavily, wanting to cry aloud. But could only chuckle hearing those words again.
Steven goes to Connie's side "Say what you want, Batis, We'd rather be free from your supervision. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong...but I'll be damned if I let this world fall to Darkness."
Everyone remains quiet, wondering who will make any first move. They all remain perfectly still, hearing a buzzing on a bee flying past them. Batis simply decides to float away from the group, calling out "You're a fool Steven Universe, the things we could've accomplished, with your mother at your side...Seven...see to the 'guests' arrival is a smooth one" it says, heading back for the lighthouse.
Seven sighs heavily, glaring at the duo with malice "You should've taken that offer a second time. And now you face the consequences..." she says, suddenly hundreds of gems are falling down from the sky.
Connie quickly runs to Steven's side "Steven! Raise your shield! They're..."
Dead gems, completely different, a really really dark grey that has a scuffed shine on reach chance. The falling gems hit the grass on Lighthouse Park and behind Steven and Connie like rain. Seven chuckles loudly and opens her arms out wide "Behold...the power of the Darkness, bringing dead gems back to life~" her eyes glow dark red and the dead gems slowly start to materialise.
Steven and Connie watch in horror seeing different kinds of gems that resemble Pearls, Amethysts, Rubies and even some corrupted gem forms. Connie is so terrified by their appearances she speaks in her native tongue "Are baap re…"
During this time, the others were experiencing their own set of problems, most trying to understand how and why these dead gems were. Garnet hears a booming voice coming from the Lighthouse Park, she is about to jump to the source until the dead gems start glowing and taking form. Her mouth hangs open in disbelief "No..."
Pearl was inspecting the dead gems, covering her mouth and shaking her head with horror "Why are they all here?" she sees the gems glowing in her hand, quickly letting go as soon as it takes form as many are around her "N-No!"
Lapis yelps, feeling the gem taking form, she sees a corrupted gem taking form with two massive arms and a snapping jaw trying to take a bite out of her. The corrupted gem is like Seven, different shades of grey to black with a red glowing eye. Lapis looks down and covers his mouth seeing so many red eyes glaring up at her "N-No...this can't be happening!"
Amethyst looks back at the smashed window of the van, before the van crashes into a street light, she breaks his seat belt and pulls him to the back of the van. She looks over him and smirks "Talk about living life dangerously!" she pats his back "Just try not do it so often, okay?"
Greg breathes heavily, still feeling shocked after the crash. He looks to his saviour and smiles nervously "T-Thanks for that...Really."
Amethyst makes her a smirk into a warm smile "Hey, don't get all mushy with me. It's the least I can do for the years I tormented you, which again, sorry."
She feels his hand patting her back, Gregory gives a thumbs up "Forget about it, we're besties right?"
Amethyst laughs joyfully "Besties?! Can't have too many favourites, but sure!"
Suddenly the van bashed, causing the two to collide into one another and hit the metal sheet on the van. They see pairs of grey hands burst through the other side, gripping onto the van's metal sheet and pulling it down like wallpaper. Greg makes a high pitched shriek seeing the multiple red eyed gems, multiple Amethysts, Pearls and others of different shapes and sizes.
The Crystal Gem Amethyst rolls her eyes hearing Greg's shriek "You had to sound like a damsel in distress? Stay close to me!"
Amethyst quickly snatches Greg in one arm and whips away the gems that are attacking, she quickly jumps out the massive hole that was made. She gulps nervously seeing the amount of gems surrounding her and Greg. They looked familiar but their different shades of colours and corrupted gems were not lashing out on different gems like herself.
Amethyst uses her whip and cracks the air around her in hopes of intimidating these gems "Hey! Get away!"
But they all ignored her threats, charging towards Amethyst like a horde of zombies without making a single noise. She sweats nervously and jumps into the air hoping to gain distance but the other gems follow in suit, preparing to attack Amethyst and Greg.
Greg begins to panic "Uh oh! We're in trouble!"
"Y-Ya think!? Hold on! I'm not gonna play nice anymore!" Amethyst uses her whip and it latches onto a Ruby with lifeless eyes reaching out for them.
Amethyst quickly spins around in mid air and uses the Ruby to knock other gems away like rolling pins. Greg being in this spin forces his hands to cover his mouth, restraining himself from letting himself get it all out. Greg doesn't witness Amethyst launching the grey Ruby into a bunch of other gems with impressive force "Booyah! That's the-...stuff?!"
The Gems get up quickly as they were knocked down, jumping back up to get Amethyst and Greg. The white haired gem thinks fast and launches herself using a greyish black brawny looking Amethyst's head. The Crystal Gem barely manoeuvres herself from deadly objects and weapons being thrown at them "This is nuts! That impact should've poofed some of them! They're tough alright, they have to be part of the darkness or something! We gotta regroup! Steven reported they were in Thayer Street! Hold onto your stomach Greggy!"
"O-Oh, d-don't you worry...I hope it doesn't land on one of those dark gems chasing us like zombies!" Greg yells, quickly covering his mouth.
While Amethyst was busy trying to regroup, Pearl found herself in a similar situation when all of the gems around her transformed. She couldn't believe this was happening, dead gems shouldn't be materialised after a certain period of time. Even if they were successful in doing so, the state of a gem's mind is almost completely gone. Yet here they were in different forms, not just the common ones but also Hessonites, Demantoids and Pyropes! But some of them looked so...distorted, damaged and broken. Pearl nervously points her spear at the dark gems, seeing red glowing eyes glaring her down. She finally realises how scary some of the creepy dolls are from different stores.
"Stop! Please understand what you're doing! You're being controlled by a dark magically force! If you're able to fight it, please fight back!"
But her words fall on deaf ears when she sees a Hessonite without a face but has glowing red beams for eyes charged at her with a rapier blade. Pearl skilfully parries each attack, but the dark gem is proving difficult with stronger and faster attacks. Pearl clenches her teeth and pushes herself, noticing other gems deciding to join the duel so she evens the odds. She focuses, summoning at least five holograms of herself. They surround the real Pearl in a defensive stance, allowing opportunities for openings. Yet whenever a dark gem attacks, their own didn't do anything to them besides being beaten around.
Pearl swiftly dodges a blade attack from Hessonite by jumping backwards and slashing the gem's back. Expecting a quick poof Pearl is about to position herself for a new opponent, yet the one she slashed with a spear didn't go away taking Pearl by surprise when it grabs her head and throws her across the street and smashes into some houses. The Holo-Pearls attempt to find the original until they got jumped on and beaten into the ground by many frenzy gems.
Pearl groans softly, picking herself up from the debris of wood and brick, she sees in the distance the dark gems deposing her holograms like child's play "I striked the gem but nothing happened? What am I going to do?! I best regroup with the others, they must've heard Steven's last location, if they aren't going down...we need to find a way!" she dashes out of the partially destroyed house.
She notices a horde like mob of dark gems savagely running after her, Pearl truly feels the horror seeing them in this state. Those blank expressions paired with bright red eyes almost force Pearl to freeze out of fear.
Suddenly Pearl feels a watery form lifting her up into the sky! Lapis catches her pearl friend by surprise "Pearl, don't worry, I'll carry you!"
"Lapis!? Thank goodness you're alright!" Pearl sighs with relief "Wait, the others! We have to regroup immediately!"
"Obviously, yeah! The city is free of civilians so we can focus on the battle ahead! Any luck trying to take down these dark gems?"
Pearl shakes her head, watching the horde of gems acting like something from a zombie film called War World Zed. While the zombies were much more horrifying, these gems act savagely "No, I tried making attacks that they countered and my strikes didn't do much of anything! Even my Holo-Pearls couldn't hold their own. Any luck on your end?"
Lapis doesn't look at her friend "N-No, I tried using whatever I can throw at them! They just shake it off like it's nothing! I literally moved an ocean against them but they just kept coming back...my Hydromimicry work on them at all. They're...d-dead."
"Dead...The Darkness certainly seems so promising, but seems impossible to beat unless we..." Pearl muses to herself, quickly face palming "No, we can't shatter them!"
Lapis cranes her head back giving her friend a grim look "...Neither do I, but they want to. We may have to resort to...shattering if that time comes. But if shattering them doesn't work, we're...done."
Pearl searches for any words of comfort for Lapis, if only those words didn't feel so hollow "Lapis, please- Wait! I see Garnet down there!" She points out Garnet fighting.
Garnet isn't having the best time herself either, she rapidly punches away the dark gems that a moment ago were lifeless while attempting a regroup. They didn't seem to shatter from falling down the sky like raindrops, and here they were trying to shatter her! Garnet didn't understand why the gems didn't poof the harder she punched them. Garnet wanted to use her Shock Wave Emission if it could do something against this horde of walkers. But looking around seeing the area she's in, some are already damaged or partially destroyed, Garnet doesn't wish destruction of others property unless absolutely necessary. She begins dashing away from the residential areas and finds an open space in Waterman Street.
Her future vision kicks in, dodging dark Jaspers punching and kicking. Garnet does a 'jump good' high into the air, she immediately points her gauntlets down and launches them into the horde. They create such massive impact, Garnet feels the full force of the impact blasting into her body. But the smoke that would've settled is dispersed when the intended targets blast the dust away. Garnet flinches seeing them all intact and now jumping up to attack. She grits her teeth tightly and summons her gauntlets back, but a dark Jasper suddenly appears in an instant and heavily punches Garnet in the face, sending her flying across the air with a cracked visor.
"GARNET!" Lapis shouts, grabbing onto Garnet's arms and flying higher in the air "Are you alright!?"
"L...Lapis?" Garnet adjusts her broken visor "Thank you, where are the others?"
Lapis gestures to Pearl being held on a floating water shaped hand "I found Pearl about to be ravaged by those...gems. I noticed you in the air and came over to get you."
Pearl, still being carried by a water shaped hand solemnly smiles "Garnet! We saw you fighting, I'm sorry to say we didn't do much against them either."
Garnet breathes out through her nose slowly "Thanks for the lift, but we have to find the others and regroup, we last heard Steven's location. Let's find Amethyst and get to Connie and Steven before things get worse."
Lapis scrunches her face in frustration, putting Garnet on another water shaped hand when she feels the rain starting to pour down hard. The sky now covered by dark clouds, a thunderstorm seems so ironic for their current predicament "Guys! Controlling the oceans didn't do anything to those damn Darkness Gems! Your hits didn't go through! What the hell are we supposed to do!?"
Pearl and Garnet never once hear Lapis say such human words like 'Damn' and 'Hell', but the gravity of their situation is so dire to see Lapis losing all sense of hope in a short span. They couldn't blame her, this seems so unfair. But they are dealing against a higher power than they ever faced before. Garnet clenches her fists tightly and looks over them "We have to find a way, I'm not sure how or if it's possible. But we can't give up, shattering isn't an option. It goes against what Rose was trying to do."
"But what if Rose realised it might've been the only way?" Lapis asks, looking over Pearl.
The thin gem gulps quietly "It wasn't like she was perfect, Rose knew very well what she was and wasn't. But shattering was never an option unless...whoever she loved was in a near death situation, she would."
Lapis breathes out satisfaction hearing that answer "Okay, so long as she was willing to take action if it was a last resort, we can in good conscience make the choice if need be. I just hope we don't have to."
Pearl sees something ahead and points it out "Everyone! I can see Amethyst making her way towards the Lighthouse! Greg is...not looking great!"
"Is he hurt!?" Lapis panics.
"No! Just...looking a bit sick!"
Garnet adjusts her broken visor, she sees many figures in the distance and points to them "Over there! On the hill with the Lighthouse!"
Pearls squints her eyes for better focus "I think that's Steven and Connie! They're fighting the corrupted gems!"
Lapis takes a look herself and feels anger swell inside "There's a figure just standing there watching, that has to be Seven...hang on everyone, we're going in-"
Suddenly they're interrupted by dark gems jumping into their view temporarily suspended in the air, a Topaz staring blankly at them and swinging their crystal mace. But the swing misses, the Topaz's right leg is wrapped by a whip and thrown away from the trio.
Amethyst jumps into their view laughing happily "Hahaha! I know the mood is lame but that boost felt Great! Right Greg!?"
"Y-Yeah...Just...Great..." Greg groans, covering his mouth.
Garnet quickly grabs hold on Amethyst and Greg before they could fall, seeing a dark pearl jump into her view before being kicked away using her foot "Seems you haven't lost your spirit" she says calmly.
Amethyst grins widely "Whoa! It's nice to see you use your feet for once!"
"Always catches Steven by surprise during training" Garnet smirks.
Pearl notices more dark gems trying to jump up to reach Lapis and the others, she points her spear at them. The spear starts glowing and sparks electricity around the blade, she shoots Energy Projections at them. Being in mid air, they were sitting ducks with each blast hitting them and shooting them back down to Earth "Lapis! Can you reach Steven and Connie at this rate?"
Lapis is busy avoiding the jumping gems from below as well as their own projectiles "I'm working on it! Just make sure they don't shatter us, please!"
The dark gems are all glaring at the small duo, Steven and Connie with their glowing red eyes, ready to charge them viciously when Seven gives the command "ATTACK!"
As if they were animals, they make a dash towards Steven and Connie in different ways, sprinting down the hill or jumping in the air attacking with full force. The young couple waste no time getting into action, Steven quickly forms a pink bubble around himself and Connie. Any strike aimed at them is deflected, causing a knock back for any attackers. The bubble quickly disappears so that Connie is able to step forward and create a wide slash to many gems of different sizes. Steven gasps sharply when the slash is deflected by a Dark Pearl's blade from their spear, Connie's attack didn't make a single impact despite giving it her all
Seven chuckles loudly and gives a taunting applause "Well done! As you can see, they're the perfect and prime example of how the Darkness can give life to those dead even after thousands of years being under dirt or laying in the harsh environment of other worlds!"
Steven frowns angrily "Seven, they won't be in your grasps when we're done! They'll be free to live their own lives, just how you and I want to!"
Seven's expression becomes grave to match her new tone "There is no way you can save these Gems. They were dead for such a long period of time. Their 'Brains' as you'd call it, are lost, Batis simply 'reanimated' them for the sole purpose of dismantling you and your friends."
Connie flinches at the idea of the gems turning into a version of 'Zombies' "W-What? No, that's..."
"Before we resume the battle, I wish to show you something" Seven walks over to a large corrupted gem and pets the gem "Isn't this amazing? Unlike the normal corrupted gems that exist, these ones are quite understanding, for example…Down."
Soon as Seven gives the word, the dark corrupted gem quickly lays its entire body onto the grassy ground. Connie and Steven couldn't believe what they're seeing, if it's that easy for that type of gem to give in to Seven's words…
"All of you! Attention!" Seven barks a command like a drill sergeant, she smirks once all the dark gems stand up straight waiting for their next command.
Steven growls angrily, stamping his foot "Seven! How could you allow this to happen!? This is too far! The Darkness has twisted your mind!"
"No Steven, this is necessary. If you truly wish to win this, you'll do whatever it takes. The only way you can stop these gems is by shattering them, you won't be making them go 'poof' like the others, you have to get a kill shot~" Seven smirks, tapping their one of the controlled darkness' gems "Such a fragile thing~"
"SEVEN!" Steven roars, furiously charging to Seven leaving imprints on the grassy ground going uphill, but he sees a large corrupted gem using its massive arm to a punch, but misses Steven.
This gives the boy a chance to burst forward and perform an uppercut with his shield now having a glowing white aura in its chest. The force is so strong it causes a gaping hole. Causing the gem to disappear in the air like red matter, Steven couldn't believe his eyes, he destroyed the gem for the first time. He screams loudly, feeling terrible pain for what he had to do.
Connie's lips quiver, she can't imagine what Steven is feeling. If the others are having to deal with this, who knows how they're going to feel?
Seven tightens her talons together, her body having a sensation of dread throughout "I...warned you they couldn't be saved, well done for...getting their gem."
The girl quickly runs up to Steven and glares at Seven "If there is any good left inside of you, PLEASE stop all of this! We're begging you!"
Seven howls with laughter, yet her expression looks twisted with pain and rage "I...can't...I have...no choice! ATTACK!" she screams, feeling the dark gems run past her like a pack of wolves.
Connie watches the incoming horde and hugs Steven closely "Steven..."
Steven hugs Connie closely "Connie, I talked big...but I can't."
As the horde rushes to attack the hugging couple, they're suddenly blasted away. Connie and Steven yelp, looking to see where the blast came from. It was...Bismuth and Peridot!? Bismuth was holding a massive blaster on her shoulder with the roaming eye.
Seven snaps her head towards the energy beams blasting over, a white hot energy so pure you can feel the sheer heat of the beam and visually watch it blast away the dark gems across the grass. Seven witnesses everything unfolding, the charge was halted and even pushed back. She checks who is behind the attack, it is none other than Bismuth being accompanied by a Roaming Eye.
Bismuth has two large rail guns mounted on top of her shoulders, the coils sending energy glowing with each blast. There is a massive backpack Bismuth is wearing which must conduct power for those projectiles. The Roaming Eye is doing its part as well, giving effective firing at any dark gem attempting to harm Steven and Connie. But the beams are larger, faster and much stronger. While amusing to watch, Seven is surprised to see such an advanced technology being operated by Bismuth who shouldn't be the type. The Roaming Eye's output seems more 'optimised' than before, if it who Seven believe it is, when did that little gem become so creative and open minded?
"Bismuth!" Steven and Connie call out surprised.
Bismuth grins proudly while continuing fire "Hey all! Like these new guns? I wasn't convinced at first but those crude drawings Peridot made actually weren't complicated, I love these girls!"
An annoyed electronic voice comes from the Roaming Eye "Crude Drawings!? I've been taking online courses to improve my drawing!"
Seven laughs to herself, it is indeed Peridot. Still kicking and doing well for herself, it's been quite some time since they last had a conversation together. Ever since Peridot left for the Earth, it seems like giving some background information of the land helped her initially. Then again, Peridot at the time didn't fully look into Seven's notes. If at all.
With a raise of a talon hand in the air, the dark gems strop what they're doing. They move into a neutral position staying perfectly still. Steven decides to remove the bubble seeing they're currently safe "Guys! I guess you heard my call out location?"
Peridot, thinking it's best to remain inside the machine, speaks through "That and the dark gems that were acting like monsters outside your house."
Bismuth nods, her gaze moving towards the figure with dark wavy hair "I thought it was gems you guys knew, but seeing the glowing red eyes was a reminder of someone called 'Seven', I'd like to believe that's the one standing over there?"
Seven chuckles loudly, spreading her arms out wide "Guilty as charged! It's so nice to finally meet a legend like yourself Bismuth! I heard so much about your tales against the Diamond Empire and adventures with Rose Quartz!" Seven slowly walks towards Bismuth and Peridot "You know, I managed to convince myself you died during the war. I am still curious as to how you evaded the Diamonds and my own eyes! And all of a sudden you appeared as if nothing happened! And then…you disappeared for a period of time once more, now you're here. Oh I wish to know…"
Bismuth frowns angrily, attempting to blast Seven away who easily side steps out of the beams blast, allowing it to hit a large corrupted gem off a cliff "Shut up, don't act like you know me because you don't! You think you're so smart but can't see the damage you're doing!"
Seven smirks "You're one to talk…"
"I was wrong about shattering, even if a small part of me believes it's the best option to stop you and the Diamonds Empire. But time and time again, Rose never shattered me and Steven never shattered me. I have to try and see their perspective, no matter how long it takes!"
Seven rolls her eyes "Oh please, you'll never understand" she scoffs at the thought, looking over at the Roaming Eye. She speaks in an unusually gentle tone "Ah, if it isn't my old 'friend' Peridot Facet-2F5L Cut-5XG…how have you been?"
Peridot inside the Roaming Eye gets a sudden chill when her full title is spoken. And that tone, it was irritating yet familiar "...Yellow Pearl-007, so it really is you?"
Steven, Connie and Bismuth look at Peridot gobsmacked "You know her!?"
Peridot winces at the shouts "Y-Yeah, well, not really! We were what you call 'colleagues' under Yellow Diamond. I wasn't much for talking with others, I wanted to perform my tasks and get on with things. Seven and I had…some common ground."
seven grins knowingly at Peridot "You can say that again, we both had big ideas but Peridot wasn't one to each that high. And whenever I thought I could be more than a colleague, she either ignored me or turned her nose" Seven laughs to herself "Not to say she was bad, most gems under Yellow Diamond were like that to one another."
Peridot opens the hatch to reveal herself for Seven to see "I was bad, no…I was horrible."
Seven's smile and laughter quickly fade, she stands up straight and listens carefully.
Peridot sighs deeply, feeling guilty for many in front of her "I'm sorry for not bringing this up, I didn't want to believe it was Seven. I didn't know her personally, but we did have something akin to a friendship which she wanted but I rejected. Friendship wasn't important to me. And…I was too prideful to work with someone like Seven who was enthralled with the Earth ever since she was assigned to it. It disgusted me, in my eyes she wasn't one of us. Having dreams for herself, her own future beyond the Empire. I didn't want anything to do with her…"
Everyone listens to Peridot's genuine and heartfelt admission of how she was to Seven. But it didn't end there, Peridot looked into Seven's eyes, her own building up tears "Seven! I won't beg for your forgiveness, it was our nature, but I want you to know I understand why you were obsessed over the Earth! There are many ugly things for sure but there was that hidden beauty you kept saying aloud. I wanna see all of it! Please…join us and we'll see that world together!"
Seven touches her chest, a warm feeling soars like a candle being lit. She didn't think this Peridot was the same, selfish, arrogant and stubborn one. She's caring, understanding and protective.
"Peridot, because we suffered under Yellow Diamond, I am giving you this chance to join the Darkness-"
Peridot steps up from her seat and angrily points at Seven "NO! I don't want to be a part of another cult of abusive control freaks! I want to be free and be myself! Don't you!?"
Seven growls quietly "Don't push it-"
Connie steps up, swinging the sword and pointing it toward Seven "Or what!? You haven't killed Steven, Lars or anyone here, you haven't even made an attempt to kill us!" Connie is visibly shaking pure rage "You had plenty of chances yourself to get rid of us, but you spared Steven, send these dead gems to do your dirty work and even now! You had plenty of chances to kill us all!"
Seven's expressions are twisted, unable to contain her fury "You don't understand..."
Connie holds her gaze feeling brave "So what is then Seven!? Can't you do it? Or you won't do it?! You realise deep inside of you, you care for Steven more than you actually realise!"
Seven screams so loudly it shakes the ground they stand on "I HAVE NO CHOICE! I can't change myself because my new life is held entirely by Batis! I won't change that fate if I wish to risk dying for disobedience! Even if I wanted to help, I can't and I won't!"
Bismuth gives a pitiful look "Your chains changed from Yellow to Darkness...It isn't too late to change, I'm learning on the fly."
This only further enrages Seven as she glares hatefully towards Bismuth "I hope what you learn, will end with you in a grave!"
Steven quickly stands up and runs over to get in-between them all "Guys! Stop! Seven, I can only ask you to join us! I don't know how to help unless you know something to help us. But I want to save you, it's the truth! They're right, you didn't kill me or Lars, you sent us away...Seven, I can be your friend, I'll be there for you if you'll be there for everyone."
Steven inches closer to her "You've tried to help in your own way, I don't wanna fight you. But if you're able to resist the darkness, we'll do what we can to save yourself and live happily ever after. See life without it feeling artificial, make some genuine discoveries together...What do you say?"
This did little to change Seven's mind, her eyes glow red so brightly it temporarily blinds them "I've had enough of this prattle! I won't risk my own existence over a gamble, Steven Universe! DIE!"
Seven extends her claws, swiftly clinching them together as a makeshift dagger aiming for Steven. She yells a battlecry, attempting a deadly attack against the Steven Universe. Connie, Peridot and Bismuth had little chance to intervene, in a matter of seconds Seven was behind the boy already.
"STEVEN!" They all cry out.
Steven spins around, he couldn't get his bubble ready in time, the dark gem was about to make a stabbing motion until she stopped. Her eyes full of pang, her snarling teeth are bare, Seven tries to strike, but she cannot bring herself to attack.
A pair of metallic hands pushes against her face, making Seven blasting uphill like a cartwheel. Everyone looks for the source of the attack, they all give a great sense of hope seeing Lapis, Garnet and Pearl coming down from the sky like pairs of angels despite the thunderstorms covering a beautiful sunlight. Steven sees what hit Seven, the sound was a giveaway to. He looks up towards the sky, feeling the cold heavy raindrops hitting his face, suddenly Amethyst jumps into the view with a cheesy grin, Steven sees his father is over Amethyst's shoulder who manages to give a weak smile and waves.
Steven smiles warmly and waves to everyone, he takes a look back for Seven. Seeing her body sprawled out across the hill going upward. She really wanted to kill him, yet she didn't...there is good inside her still. There has to be.
Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst descend and land beside Steve and Connie, Steven runs over to hug them "Guys! You're okay!"
Garnet smiles brightly, stroking Steven's head "Barely, but yeah. Are you all okay? We saw you fighting those gems, would've got here earlier but some gems 'Jump Good' after us."
Connie feels her chest loosen, so glad everyone in the group is safe and ready to help. "So far so good, sorry we couldn't help you from below, but Bismuth and Peridot gave us a much needed boost just in time!"
Lapis rubs her face as if she was tired "Avoiding those jumping gems gave me a different kind of boost..."
Pearl checks over the Roaming Eye's Peridot as its pilot "You reconfigured it to suit your needs, and from what we saw it has much improved combat capabilities. Impressive!"
Peridot wipes her nose, chuckling "Thanks! But it was thanks to Bismuth tailoring to my needs in an amazing time! Check her gear out!"
"Check her 'gear' out? Whatever do you mean-Huh!? What are those guns!?" Pearl yelps, inspecting the rail guns and energy backpack.
Bismuth snorts seeing her friend looking in awe "I surprised myself too! Peridot here sure has the imagination to make it a reality!"
Steven watches Amethyst gently placing Greg onto the ground "Dad! You look terrible! Was he injured!?"
Amethyst rubs her neck seeing Greg holding his stomach "Uhhh, nah. He just left a trail behind. Don't ask what."
"D-Don't worry everyone, I'll be okay! Just…wish I didn't eat a big breakfast. Ughh…" Gregory moans, rolling onto his side.
Lapis kneels down to Greg's side, feeling sympathetic as she looks into Steven's eyes "It's best if I take Greg to the others, I'll let them know what's going on. But I'll be right back."
Steven smiles appreciatively "Thanks Lapis. Dad? Thanks for doing your part, it's time you get to safety."
Greg opens his eyes slowly, leaning forward and embraces Steven tightly "You…be safe, okay? I love you son."
Steven returns the hug "Love you too, dad" he slowly lets go and nods to Lapis.
"Alright Greg, I'm sorry to say but it's going to be a fast ride. Just brace yourself, okay?" Lapis warns, lifting Greg off the ground and preparing to burst forward.
Greg Universe's eyes open in horror at the realisation "F-F-Fast ride!? O-Oh noooooo!" he yells, Lapis flying off at incredible speeds away from the group.
Amethyst snickers "He's gonna barf all the way!"
Garnet ignores the comment to focus on her surroundings, despite the cracked visor she can see all the dark gems standing doing nothing, not even staring "Interesting, could've finished us here and now."
Pearl blinks at that "I don't think we're complaining about that Garnet…"
Steven also takes a look around, there are hundreds of dark gems below the hill from chasing the Crystal Gems, many others are scattered around the steep hill perfectly still. He knows Seven could've released them and done whatever, it's doubtful she's unconscious.
"Okay guys, she can't be poofed or out cold, Seven's tough. But my biggest worry is these other gems, has anyone managed to take some down?" Steven asks calmly.
Amethyst cracks her whip a few times, looking irritated "Not a single scratch, either they're super strong or invincible."
Garnet seems reserved but her tone feels ashamed "Same, they took all my punches. Not even a waver. They did a good number on me."
Pearl holds her arm tightly, her body is dirty from the debris of those houses "I…my spear went through their bodies, I'm certain of it! But nothing happened, my Holo-Pearls were canon fodder to them! I got smashed through houses. Even Lapis told me whatever she tried doing just didn't work against them!"
Bismuth looks over her railguns and then to Peridot "Funny, Little Peridot said these would safely take them out. They all got blasted away, didn't see any signs of them losing physical form."
Peridot scratches her hair furiously "I know! I don't get it! These settings should've worked!"
"No, that won't do" Steven says aloud "They're too strong, Crystal who is someone Duke Batis, son of Lord Aegithina of the Darkness. He made those gems appear from the sky and brought them back as…something worse."
The Crystal Gems stare down at Steven, a mixture of emotions ranging from confusion, anger and fear. Garnet kneels down and holds Steven's shoulder, speaking in a parental tone "Steven? How do we defeat them, we saw you take down that gem from earlier." she asks, but doesn't get an answer.
Pearl sees Connie becoming agitated, she holds her shoulders and kneels down as well "Connie?"
Connie bites her lower lip, visibly upset "Seven said...the only way we can stop them gems..."
Steven doesn't look up to the others, instead walking over and hugging Connie "We have to shatter them, aim for the gems..."
Everyone gasps loudly, although Bismuth looks more surprised than mortified "So anything we do to them unless we hit their gems won't work? I...want to change, for real. But if you need me to, I'll do it for you all. But I won't unless you give me the word."
"No! Absolutely not! This Seven must've been lying! There is always another way and this cannot be the answer to win! We saw Steven hit that corrupted gem without issue, he can't do it all by himself!" Pearl holds her head, pacing around quickly.
Suddenly a loud bang rips through the air, the Crystal Gems feel themselves lowering into the ground. They witness the clouds moving so quickly it causes slight nausea for Steven and Connie, thunder rumbles like drums and strikes all over the sky.
They slowly stand up, wondering what could cause strange weather like this. Checking around for any movement from the dark gems, no movement. Seven still sprawled on the grass unmoving, then another loud bang. The Crystal Gems stare at the Lighthouse, a faint red glow at the very top.
Steven takes a step forward, slapping his forehead "Batis...Hey Garnet! What do you see in the future!?"
Garnet pauses briefly before rubbing her eyes under the shattered visor "...I can't see anything beyond what's in front of us."
"WHAT!?" Everyone shouts with disbelief.
Garnet removes the visor, starting intently at the Lighthouse "I'm sorry, but the Darkness has some sort of aura about it, I don't know if it's preventing me to see…but I think it's because there is no life, once you're gone…your future ends."
Steven looks away sadly but quickly masters himself "Not our Future! Everyone! Let's storm the Lighthouse-"
He is interrupted with another but much louder bang that creates strong gusts of wind, the Crystal Gems over their faces from the wind blowing cold heavy raindrops. Their hearts drop when the lighthouse glows extremely bright, the red glow creates powerful beams thanks to the material. You could probably see that red glow miles upon miles away, even in the thickest fog.
The sky above starts changing, the once dark grey and cutting off the sun becomes pitch black. The clouds are still moving rapidly, this time breaking apart to reveal that beautiful blue sky has become a chaotic red. Beach City has become enveloped by a massive shadow, street lights flickering on, only being barely visible due to the powerful shadows and heavy rain.
Just when they all feel it is becoming worse, there is more to come. Another bang is heard and felt from another gust of wind. Then a loud smash, similar to a plate smashing on the floor. But this time, to their horror, a large crack can be seen mid air. It's as if someone spray painted that on a way, but there wasn't any wall in front of the light house!
Connie couldn't continue keeping thoughts straight if this continues "N-No! Batis is opening a Gate to create a Bridge between this dimension and their dimension!"
Amethyst cracks her whip "Who's this Batis? Did that floating crystal actually have a name after all this time?"
Steven wipes his face to remove rain in his eyes, not that it actually helps since it continued raining "Duke Batis, son of Lord Aegithina...I don't know much else besides his insistence on having a place to speak for everyone if we submit. You can tell he's a super villain..."
Connie stands up using the sword "He was locked away inside that crystal after battling the 'Light', claiming they're not good. Batis said the Darkness wants Order and Strength to all, saying the Light giving younger races free will was a mistake."
Steven takes some steps forward, bringing his shield up "And the Light wants to spread influence across time and space, they uphold Justice and Freedom for all life...I don't know about you guys, but they should just go home and try to talk again rather than battling each other, putting lives at risk."
Pearl covers her mouth hearing this news, now fully accepting they are a small, insignificant part of the scale beyond understanding not just tied to this dimension but beyond "There is so much to learn..."
Peridot takes some notes on what was said before quickly looking at Bismuth "Try and see if you can make a shot at Batis in that tower, stun of course!"
Bismuth aims her railguns towards the top of the lighthouse and takes a shot that bounces off a wave of dark magic "Darn! That tower is covered in a protection barrier! I doubt we'll break through something like that!"
Peridot balls her hands into fists "I-If only I had more time, maybe…I could've understood better!"
Pearl gently strokes the smaller gem's head, showing a caring smile "You did everything you could in the short amount of time. For now, let's focus ahead?"
Garnet nods, her eyes showing softness behind the once steel gaze of the visor "Don't lose hope even when all else is lost."
Peridot blushes faintly, Pearl hasn't been like this before…feels rather nice "T-Thanks guys-Look! Lapis is back!" she yells, pointing to the sky.
Everyone looks up and indeed Lapis has returned, she swoops down and lands next to Steven. Lapis smiles seeing them welcoming her back "Thanks all, Steven, your father is safe and sound, he's being looked after by Connie's mother…just needs to rest after letting it out-"
"Called it!~" Amethyst cheers happily, earning herself the stare from Garnet. Connie smiles proud for her mother still doing her part.
Lapis rolls her eyes and looks at Connie, smiling gently "Your mother said she loves you, and to come back safe."
Connie feels a weight being lifted from her body, her parents and everyone is safe "Thank you Lapis, I needed that."
Steven couldn't help but smile at Amethyst trying to lighten the mood up despite their dire situation. He's relieved his dad is safe away from here.
"Thanks Lapis, I owe you. What about everyone else?"
Lapis gives a thumbs up "They've made great progress, for now at least. I'm surprised how well, to be honest."
Garnet smirks knowingly "Not really surprising, it's human nature after all."
A sudden boom echoed across the area, coming from the crack in the air. They can see it's shattering more like glass, even seeing shards blowing into pieces and vanishing in thin air.
At the Lighthouse, inside the Lantern lies Batis glowing brighter than ever before the form could explode at a moment's notice. The crystal form was bursting out dark magic, red and black sparks all for a power light beam pointing out to sea. But it was the beam causing the explosive noise, it became thinner with time, this works similar to a magnifying glass positioning the lens to focus a small, intense spot of light. For this instance, Batis was using his power and the Lantern to concentrate a black and red beam, breaking an invisible wall of this dimension.
Batis spins around, going faster for an intense beam to destroy the wall and create a Gate, he can see through the cracks a figure with broad shoulders covered and frizzly long hair. But the figure is covered in shadow, Batis could feel himself reaching out despite this confined form. His speech which is usually monotone and clear, is soft and gleeful "Soon we shall be reunited once more, I know we had our differences in the past, I have made mistakes, I have disappointed you, I have earned your hatred Lord Aegithina...but please know, I am and always shall be your son."
The Crystal Gems decide to take the next step, they band together and make a run for the Lighthouse hoping the dark gems won't react to their movements and actions. But Seven appears out of nowhere a few metres away from the Crystal Gems, looking very amused and pleased.
Steven frowns softly, he knew it was too good to be true "Seven, you were pretending to be out cold weren't you?"
Seven tabs her chin thoughtfully, appearing dense and whimsical "What!? Nooo! I was simply having a nap to contemplate what just happened! And to be honest, I love listening to you all talk so positively when the world is on the brink of the Darkness entering. Does it bring you all joy having these little sweet conversations to ignore a reality you have a hard time accepting? Joking around lift those spirits up?"
The Dark Pearl laughs loudly, pacing around in a line back and forth "I was going to ask you don't just give up? But I have tried multiple times, hoping to convince Steven and Peridot. I am certain he spoke of what I offered, and you still threw it all in my face and for what?" Seven's amusement turns dark "You made me look like a complete fool, all to do was 'Give up' Steven..."
But Steven, Connie and the other gems didn't respond to Seven, holding their stares with hers and allowing her rant to continue "You should've just accepted the Darkness! Allowed it's power to show you things you would believe! The power it can give you and being part of something greater!" Seven raises her hands in the air, instantly making the dead gems to circle around the group.
Almost submitting to their fates, the Crystal Gems calmly watch the dark gems surround them completely. Never once seeing life or personality coming from one of them, not even a rumble from a corrupted gem.
Seven raises a brow curiously, watching their determined stares instead of using action "Why do you all stand there? If you're not giving up then make a final stand…why do you all fuse together? You'll have a much better time fighting these gems you know."
Steven disagrees strongly "That's a risk we won't take, you're hoping we'll make mistakes and shatter these gems. We're not shattering them Seven, not even you."
"Not going to shatter? Oh Steven…you forget your mother shattered Pink Diamond? For someone who stood by her morals decided they should be broken, by ending Pink's existence. It's understandable, take the advantage so it can no longer be a threat."
Steven slowly glances to the others, who share a similar thought as a whole 'Seven doesn't know the truth?'
The obvious confusion is apparent to Seven, but she doesn't know why they're acting this way, her words and tone were precise enough "I'm sorry, did I say something funny?" she asks sarcastically,
All they needed was that confirmation, despite all her knowledge and intel of the Earth and history with the Gem Wars, Seven never knew Rose Quartz true identity. Garnet folds her arms with a small smile and replies just as sarcastically "Sorry, you wouldn't get it."
Seven didn't like that at all, her mind started swirling before laughing lightly "Ooh, you know something I don't know? No matter…but I know something, in fact I seen it with my own vision, Little Miss Connie can vouch for me as well! Steven shattered a gem using his shield!"
Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst gently touch Steven's shoulder "...We know."
Steven flinches, wondering how they knew. But it dawned on him they must've watched from the sky as they travelled to reach them "G-Guys, I'm so sorry!"
Connie gives the Trio a pleading look "Please! Don't do this now! We're in danger, Steven only did what he had to-"
Bismuth gently touches Connie's shoulder, giving the young girl a friendly smile "Listen…"
Seven laughs madly "I was surprised when he destroyed the dead gem with that shield, I didn't think he would do it."
Garnet holds her stare, arms still folded but her tone isn't sarcastic, it's direct and curious "Then how come when we attacked those gems before, nothing happened. Yet Steven hit the gem with his shield, turning it into mist?"
Seven blinks instinctively, she tilts her head and stands up straight "Yes, he did. What're you trying to get at?"
Pearl uses her spear and points to something on the ground "Then why is it's gem laying on the grass, Seven?"
Seven looks where the tip of the spear is pointing, Seven walks over to the spot slowly. She does see something being covered by wet grass, her talons reach for the gem using the tips. Seven gasps sharply at the sight, bringing the dead gem closer to her eyes for inspection. The gem was pitch black before but now, it's a beautiful Ruby gem.
"W-What!? How can this be!?" she screams, her talons grip shaking "Steven!? What did you do!?"
Steven looks up to everyone's reactions, some in awe and some with shock "Huh!? I-I just…hit the gem with my shield! I didn't aim for their gemstone at all! After seeing them turn into a red mist, I thought they shattered."
Lapis is overwhelmed with joy, feeling hopeful again "Whatever you did Steven, it must've done some purification! We have a chance!"
Seven is about to say something until the tips of her talons are burning intensely causing a surprised shout, dropping the gem which Steven catches. She inspected her talons' tips for fire or some chemical weapon used on her, but didn't find anything, the burning sensations soon faded. Seven looks over to Steven, doing her best to remain calm "Steven...What the hell did you do?"
Steven is flabbergasted, as far he knows there aren't any purification techniques taught to him in the past and certainly not now. But Lapis and the others seem convinced he learned something, even Seven believes he hid something from her. Thinking back to the time he hit the corrupted dark gem with his shield, Steven did feel something different, like a force inside spewing out around the shield. He felt so desperate to save the possessed gem, not destroy it when he attacked. But the moment truly felt he did destroy it, even Connie and Seven were convinced.
Before he could respond, he saw a figure in the distance near the Lighthouse. It's the same man in the green trench coat from earlier. Steven shakes his head, wondering how the man got here and past the gems...how is he even near the Lighthouse? Trying to form words, Steven couldn't yell.
Seven looks at Steven's eyes looking away from her to a different area, she quickly turns to find what he's looking out but finds nothing out of the ordinary. Yet Steven sees something she doesn't.
Steven keeps staring at the man in the green coat, the features still unrecognisable as before, more so thanks to the rain and dark red sky. The Stranger removes a bare hand from his coat pocket, moving it slowly to his chest and keeps it there. Steven instinctively repeats the Stranger's motions, feeling his hand on the chest. The boy doesn't feel anything that isn't normal to him, until his hand gently glows a faint white aura. Steven glances to the Stranger who hasn't moved the hand away, so Steven with eyes closed begins concentrating on the aura. Nothing but darkness, just like in the dreams Batis was part of, half expecting the floating crystal's voice to speak around him. Nothing.
Steven Universe is about to give up until he sees a glowing light in the distance, using his feelings to walk forward, the glow compares to a star in the night sky. It becomes brighter each step, even feeling some intense heat radiating from this light. Emotions of pride, joy, gratitude and hope fill his heart and a wonderful warmth spreads throughout his body, feeling alive again. He reaches for the light, it's a burning white flame so beautiful and pure it could possibly give Steven eternal happiness. But no self happiness could fill a hollow heart if not given to all, he breathes out and touches the flame allowing it to spread across his entire body.
Steven hugs his body, giggling blissfully and shoots his arms out wide, bursting the flame away from his body and destroying the dark void around him to see himself back within reality.
Light suddenly emanating from Steven is so intense Seven is forced to cover her eyes, that same burning from the gem is now affecting her entire body. The dark gems around begin screeching in agony feeling the light shining on them.
The Crystal Gems see Steven's glowing form, they couldn't form words when his body started glowing out of nowhere, Pearl knew Pink Diamond couldn't do anything like this and Rose Quartz never did this before, this is entirely new "S-Steven?"
Amethyst felt her skin crawl hearing the screeching, but she was more curious how Steven was doing this and why the light didn't affect her or the other Crystal Gems "Steven?"
Garnet hears the screeching around her, these gems seem to be in genuine pain from the light Steven produces, this time her future vision begins working as sees different possibilities. She gasps softly and notices the dead gems are beginning to glow, their old colours showing up faintly "Their gems are reacting! They're still themselves deep down!"
Lapis smiles brightly seeing their chances are increasing, the dark gems backing off and Steven once again full of surprises "Go on Steven, whatever you got we're ready to see it!"
Bismuth is speechless, this feels so different than anything she had seen in her existence, she feels the light from Steven giving her hope "S-Steven..."
Peridot yelps at the bright light "My eyes!" She quickly takes off her visor and can see Steven's body glowing white "W-What!?"
Connie approaches Steven from behind and touches his back, whispering gently "Steven? Are you okay?"
Steven speaks back, his voice sounding normal but much happier than ever before "I feel alive Connie, we're going to win this! Brace yourselves!"
Batis, who was still trying to open the Gate in this dimension's barrier, feels a terrifying sensation away from the Lighthouse. His vision leaves from the crack in the barrier and moves to the small group surrounded by dark gems and Seven watching him. He stares at Steven Universe closely touching his chest, realising what the sensation was. Batis uses everything in his vocals to scream with terror "SEVEN! KILL HIM NOW!"
Before Seven could react to the scream from Duke Batis, she sees Steven's body glowing brighter and the boy smiles widely, clapping his hands together creating a loud bang. Light starts spreading away from Steven's body and spreads onto Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, Lapis, Bismuth, Peridot and Connie while any gems being too close were blown away into the sky or their bodies burst from the explosion of light, their bodies turn into red mist is swept away into the air. Their gems softly fall onto the grass, full colour returns to them.
Seven is blasted away from the group again, this time the light burns her greater than that small gem, screaming loudly and turning her body into black and red smoke. Seven turns to her physical state and breathes heavily "What's going on!? Why is this happening!?"
Steven's body has returned to it's normal self but the white aura is now present around him, he looks to his family looking at their hands and bodies. They all see the white aura around them and the beautiful warmth inside their bodies, Bismuth slowly moves around with purpose, Pearl touches the gem on her forehead trying to understand why she's lighter. Peridot gasps heavily, quickly operating the Roaming Eye which now has a white aura, Lapis presents her palms to the clouds and swiftly swipes her hands away and breaks the dark/red clouds pelting them in rainwater, the sun now shines without issue. Garnet grins in delight, whatever is around her fills her with inner love and hugs herself, Amethyst laughs loudly, does a backflip and jabs a finger at Seven "Suck on that!" she immediately does an air guitar gesture.
Connie stands beside Steven and gently touches his face to make him face her "Steven Universe...What did you do?"
Steven looks into Connie's eyes silently, taking a glance away to see if the Stranger is still in the distance...he is still standing there with both hands in the coat's pockets. Steven looks back into Connie's eyes and holds her hands gently "Connie, do you trust me?"
Connie blushes faintly but nods without question "Always."
"Connie, I love you" Steven proclaims, leaning in to kiss her lips.
Connie blushes bright red, never expected Steven to do this out of the blue. Any surprise fades away and she too leans in to return the kiss, wrapping her arms around Steven which he returns the gesture. Their bodies start glowing pure white, rapidly taking on a much taller and built form, the Crystal Gems watches them fuse together with Garnet being the biggest fangem of fusions.
The glow from the now singular form shows themselves to be none other than Stevonnie standing tall and opening their eyes. Their fused bodies have a much stronger aura flow around themselves, they look down and see a mixture of clothing, Connie's shoes, Steven's jeans now shorts, his t-shirt and Connie's jacket. Stevonnie's eyes turn into stars when they couldn't contain their excitement at being together again, the aura is just the cherry on top!
Stevonnie summons their large pink shield and checks their pink sword, giving it a few swings and pointing the blade towards the dark Pearl "Seven! You're outmatched! Just step away and we can resolve this peacefully, no amount of Darkness can destroy our way of life!"
Seven takes a few steps back out of fear of Stevonnie, their sudden enhancement can only mean one thing "Stevonnie...When did you two become enhanced with the Light!?"
Stevonnie takes another glance at the Stranger, and he is still there. Their expressions vary from a thankful look to a shocked expression "W-Wait...Oh my gosh...Steven, I can see your...memories! That Stranger gave you some sort of star and you were looking inside to take hold of it! Oh yeah! That's pretty cool, huh!? Wait...Steven was right! That's the same man from earlier!"
The Crystal Gems look where Stevonnie is looking and see nobody, Amethyst scratches her neck awkwardly "Okay, there isn't any man standing there. We would've noticed beforehand!"
Stevonnie blinks, but as soon as they do that, the Stranger is no longer in their vision "Huh!? He just...disappeared!"
Garnet stops smiling and starts becoming serious "Steven said he saw someone, a man in a green trench coat wearing a green hat and a short beard wearing round glasses before I carried them up the hill. Bismuth, Peridot, did you two see anyone like that?"
"Uh, No?" Peridot and Bismuth respond.
"Then if Steven saw him again and now Connie becoming Stevonnie can see this Stranger, they're telling the truth. Whoever he was, had something to do with Steven obtaining this Light and sharing our light..." Garnet summons her gauntlets again and prepares for battle "Stevonnie! You're in command!"
Pearl has many questions needing answers, but those can wait for another day "We're ready to fight!"
Amethyst quickly cracks her whip in the air smirking pridefully "Oh, just release us bloodhounds already!"
Bismuth smiles widely and restarts her rail guns "You guys really kept secrets like those two able to fuse with each other!? I thought it was a gem exclusive!"
Peridot snickers loudly and jumps back into the Roaming Eye, turning all the settings for maximum output "Let's hurry up and finish this attack! It's raid night on World of GemCraft!"
Lapis rolls her eyes amused at Peridot referencing her favourite online game "Don't worry Peridot, this shouldn't take too long."
Stevonnie bashes their shield using the sword, daring Seven to charge at them all "Your move, Seven. Just make sure they're the right ones..."
Seven's pupils grow small, feeling humiliated by Stevonnie's jabs and looking like a fool when they use the light against her "Stevonnie...This is the beginning AND the end! None shall enter the Duke's sanctum!" Seven extends her talons out and releases dark magic out of her body "Prepare yourselves, Crystal Gems! ATTACK IN THE NAME OF DUKE BATIS!"
Batis had resumed his summoning for Gate, hearing the battle outside the tower taking place. His confidence quickly fading "This all should've been easy How did the light find him? When did the light bless Steven? How didn't Seven or myself sense the light within the boy after all the time spent together? Was this all planned from the beginning!? No...if that was true, I wouldn't be in this position at all, there is still time, the light is too late. I cannot fight in this pathetic form, I must allow my people to cross the bridge in time! Wait for me, mother!"
The Dark Gems are able to regain their senses without delay, they charge for the group like a horde of zombies but this time they're screeching out with anger.
Stevonnie looks back to everyone and smiles "Good luck everyone! Please leave Seven to us! If you guys are done, join us in the Lighthouse when you're ready, we have to stop Batis from opening that Gate so the Darkness can cross a bridge to enter our world and dimension!"
Peridot closes the hatch and speaks through the microphone "Should we just split and take them out like two birds with one stone!?"
"No! If this means we can take down these gems, we must put all our efforts into bubbling them and seeing to their safety. Stevonnie, we got this!" Garnet calls out, charging for the incoming dark gems.
Stevonnie gives a salute using the shield and glares at Seven "So, Ready for Round 2, Seven?"
Seven laughs loudly, charges for Stevonnie "Round 2!? Steven didn't do enough to call it a Round 1!"
Stevonnie becomes irritated by Seven, they propels themselves forward keeping the shield up. Seven smirks seeing the same tactic Steven tried on Acirema, so she decides to get close enough just before Stevonnie swings their sword. Seven quickly uses her footing to stop and swing herself around the fused human and half gem with a large smirk, she quickly swipes at their back but this time holding nothing back. Seven expects the sounds of agony and some blood dripping, but her talons hit a solid object, Stevonnie expected this attack to come and used the sword as a blocking tool by bending it backwards over their shoulder catching Seven by surprise. Using this momentary advantage, Stevonnie spins around and uses their foot to take Seven off balance which is successful. The fusion prepares to take a swing at the dark Pearl being suspended off the ground for a brief second, but Seven is able to recover by catching the sword with both of her talons acting like crab claws.
Seven feels her back nearing the ground so she decides to use her booted feet and slams them into Stevonnie's stomach and launches herself away. Stevonnie feels the air leaving their body but recovers just in time to see Seven circling around them rapidly like a tornado, they use their sword and shield to block each flurry of deadly talon strikes, some they couldn't entirely prevent and feels cuts onto their feet, legs and body. Stevonnie's makes seething noises, if this keeps up any longer then they'll shred to ribbons. They continue their blocking efforts, watching and learning the patterns of the strikes, seeing a chance they take a swipe with the sword where they think Seven will be precisely. They managed to scratch Seven's arm which was enough for the Dark Pearl to trip over and slams herself across the ground, but she recovers and roars furiously.
Stevonnie isn't allowing Seven to gain another advantage, they keep focus and watch Seven's every move. Seven attempts charge with super speed, using her talons like a spear aiming directly for Stevonnie. Since the fusion kept their focus, they easily used the sword to deflect the incoming attack. The sound is ear piercing enough to resemble metal being scratched with a sharp object, Stevonnie doesn't waste a second and closes the small distance, they proceed to pummelled Seven using their shield multiple times, trying to slash using their sword but was being blocked at the last second by those talons.
Seven begins seeing stars when that shield bashes into her face and body, she tries getting distance from the fusion but they keep persisting. Seven barely blocks and deflects the sword which could've ended the fight, but despite the beating and burning sensation thanks to the light aura surrounding them, Seven doesn't back down or give up. She quickly turns herself into a blackish red smoke, the shield pummelling and sword swipes go through the smoke without harming Seven. Stevonnie grits their teeth frustrated, thinking of ways to prevent Seven from doing that again. The moment to think is short lived when Seven surrounds Stevonnie using the smoke, the fusion slashes the smoke with a light aura sword that makes the dark Pearl scream all around them.
Stevonnie smirks widely, thankful this light aura can catch Seven no matter form she attempts to take. They continue observing Seven swirling around before she separates her smoke into four versions of herself. Stevonnie calmly looks around at the multiple dark clones of Seven, seeing if there is any tell that can reveal the real one. But seeing them all charge, Stevonnie makes a battle stance, listening and observing their actions, one in front is charging and one behind is jumping. They look left to see a Seven using her talons and swipes the air, shooting out dark magic lines towards them. The right Seven also acts like a bulldozer using her talons like a shield. Stevonnie forms a plan, they quickly use the shield to stop the dark magic projectile, amazingly absorbs the magic into the shield giving a black and white aura around it now. Stevonnie turns to the front and throws their shield with such speed and force, Seven doesn't have time to react when the shield's edge collides with her face and bounces back to Stevonnie's. The front disappears with no gem dropping, the fusion turns to the left one, seeing a look of horror in Seven's eyes. Stevonnie smirks again, having the advantage and using it bursts towards the left and stabs Steven's chest making it disappear.
The Seven behind realises how fast Stevonnie is taking out the clones, when she sees Stevonnie isn't moving after her lunge attack, this Seven makes a mad dash for Stevonnie's back. But Seven only realises just now the shield hasn't returned into the hand of the fusion, she looks up and feels a powerful and sharp force hit her forehead's gem. Stevonnie quickly grabs the shield before it can ricochet away, and glares at the bulldozing dark Pearl. If they try striking with the sword Seven could use the talons and grab hold, Stevonnie looks at their shield imbued with light...and darkness? Stevonnie quickly lowers themselves, pulling the shield behind them. They can feel the powerful dark magic radiating off the shield. When the charging Seven is close enough, Stevonnie trusts their instincts, swinging the shield without letting it go. A sudden streak of darkness blasts across the grass and envelopes Seven, causing that one to vanish from their sight. The fusion quickly looks at the surroundings, wondering if they went overboard and shattered the real Seven.
Seven standing up holding her forehead, staggering to Stevonnie while rasping out "You...you..."
Stevonnie can see the fear, pain and anger in Seven's eyes, they speak out pleading "Seven, you've fought well and bravely. But this doesn't have to continue, you still have a chance to surrender and be free from Batis' and the Darkness...please, it doesn't have to be this way. You can be whoever you want to be, please don't be remembered as a savage warrior, not as a hero, but as Seven."
Seven continues staggering forward, removing her hand from her forehead showing her dark pearl gem now cracked "SHUT UP AND FIGHT ME!"
Stevonnie sees the crack on Seven's gem, knowing they've gone too far "W-Whoa! Please stop! I can fix your gem-"
But they are forced to block Seven trying to slash at Stevonnie, only pure hatred for this fusion in her way "You ruined everything! We could've joined hand in hand with of all your friends! Your world would've been safe and all of humans and gems could've been united as one! But you had to act all high and mighty!"
Seven uses everything she has into making a ball of dark magic on her hands, throwing it to Stevonnie. But the fusion had enough time to smack the ball of dark magic away into the distance, they couldn't believe the amount of range that mini magic bomb had, just for them.
They watch Seven gasping rapidly, her body feels much weaker and fragile now her gem is damaged. After everything she went through in her existence, suffering under Yellow Diamond and the other gems, dying in the darkness of cold space, being brought back to life and giving into her darkest desires.
Seven looks up to Stevonnie standing over like a giant, like her Diamond. She laughs painfully, touching her forehead "You're right Steven, the darkness did twist my thought process, I've become more willing to delve into my dark desires, wanting to cause pain and suffering to those who deserved it and who stand in my way...the Diamonds are examples of me lashing out, which...I don't regret one bit. But do you know what I regret, Steven?"
Stevonnie doesn't speak a word, allowing Seven to speak more "I regret not meeting you when I had the chance years ago..."
"Seven..." Stevonnie whispers.
"But now that I'm here?" Steven chuckles painfully and swiftly kicks Stevonnie's exposed torso away from her "...I can fight knowing you were my greatest foe, you are everything I am not!"
Stevonnie recovers from Seven's surprise attack, amazed she has the strength to continue "And you're everything that I'm not! A lot of people would appreciate having you tell all the stories about Earth and your life!"
Seven smiles warmly, a tear falls down her face "You fool, still the kind one after all these years? I don't deserve it, Steven...and Connie. I've done too much, I am what I fought against. And you have to destroy that monster and place her back into her tome in dark space..."
"I WON'T SHATTER YOU!" Stevonnie cries.
"...And I won't back down...UNTIL YOU TAKE ME OUT!" Seven yells, jumping into the sky and suspends herself off the ground.
Stevonnie witnesses Seven floating herself high into the sky, her body absorbing black and red swirls of dark magic into her cracked gem. Her entire body becomes pure shadow, she looks like a feminine figure drawn and filled with black ink leaving her eyes glowing red. Seven spreads her arms out and stretches her talons as far as she could, letting out a powerful and painful cry of a banshee echoing all across the region.
Seven appears so fast in front of Stevonnie it took them by complete surprise, they feel powerful and swift attacks hitting their face like a train. Seven uses her talons and digs them into Stevonnie causing them to suffer scream but gets cut off when they're slammed into the ground and repeatedly slashed, punched, kicked and blasted with dark magic all over their body.
Stevonnie barely manages to stave off near fatal blows, the last thing needed is them poofing and being at the mercy of Seven in their gem form. They tried retaliating against her, but this empowered Seven is swifter and much more brutal. Stevonnie did what the only thing they could think of, allowing the shield to glow brighter and brighter, using the sword to deflect attacks. Once the shield is fully bright, Stevonnie releases a bright blast into Seven's eyes, causing temporary blindness.
This is the chance they needed if they wanted it to end once and for all, Stevonnie points the blade at Seven's torso and pushes. But the blade is grabbed by Seven's talons, attempting to pull Rose Quartz's sword away but Stevonnie uses all of their might to keep its aim true and steady, pushing forward further for her torso. Seven's bright red eyes glare down at the sword, struggling greatly when the gem's crack is causing weakness. But using whatever strength is length, Seven screams as loud as she possibly can, twisting the blade Rose used during the Rebellion until she feels and hears a loud snap. Seven inspects the snapped blade after almost 5000 Years old, forcing the handle to fly a good distance away near the edge on the right side. Seven ready to gloat her victory down onto Stevonnie. But she feels a powerful slam from the shield across her face.
Stevonnie grabs Steven's scarf and pulls her down on the ground, the fusion quickly punches Seven and begins placing their knees on Seven's arms. Stevonnie begins smacking Seven across her head repeatedly using the shield, the dark Pearl tries fighting back but the impact of the shield renders Seven useless.
Taking heavy breaths, Stevonnie stops hitting Seven and stares down at her triumphantly and speaks in a low tone "Yield...I made sure to avoid your gem, please just...give up."
Seven feels limp, unable to move part of her physical form to resist Stevonnie. The shadow covered form returns to her normal dark gem self. She had lost a fight against Steven and Connie, she was no fighter, but to be taken down with the power of darkness was something else. Somehow, Seven croaks out painful words "Steven...Connie...I can't yield, that would go against who I am. Just like...when you said, you wouldn't give up, in the face of danger and total domination. And I am here, refusing to give up my dream, to be respected all across the universe and beyond. I refuse to yield not because of Batis, the Darkness, you or your friends...but for me. You have my final...answer."
Stevonnie sighs softly, looking at Seven with sadness yet kindness "Seven, my mother Rose, was Pink Diamond, would you believe that?"
"P-Pink...Diamond?" Seven laughs painfully, thinking Stevonnie is having the last laugh but sees genuineness "Your mother...Rose Quartz, was Pink Diamond all along?"
They nod gently "It's true, think back to all the stories and things you must've heard on both sides, it'll make sense to you."
Seven takes a few moments, looking back at everything she knew from the Empire's side and the Earth's side, starting with a partially completed puzzle in her mind. But there was something that didn't make any sense "...How?"
"Pearl posed as my mother and pretended to shatter my mother."
And with the final piece of the puzzle, Seven finally understands it all. She begins laughing, disregarding the pain spiking around "HAHAHAHAHA! I-I see! That...makes sense...Pink Diamond always seemed so distant whenever I saw her on projections...like me, wasn't happy with the whole Empire, but she had better reasons to leave" Seven looks at Stevonnie "Your mother, in the past had done some bad things by human standards...but understand, it was the way of a Diamond. Her anger clouded her judgement, she harmed a Pink Pearl in a blind rage...that is why she got a new Pearl...your Pearl."
Stevonnie listens intently, taking everything she says for granted. Even if she were lying, it was the least they could do is respect Seven "Seven, I want to make a promise to you...after this is all over, you'll have a home and family here, and you'll explore the universe and make a name for yourself. I promise you that."
"Steven Universe, Connie...I...Why are you giving me so many chances? I don't deserve-"
Stevonnie touches Seven's cheek and smiles joyfully "Yes, you do deserve love, respect and happiness! Hopefully earning it without being a meanie! I don't know what others might think or say, but if you're willing to give yourself a second chance and work hard, trust yourself. Okay?"
Seven is speechless, this is what love, respect and happiness is like. Steven and Connie have shown her now, the dark gem begins shedding tears. Her eyes no longer have a red glow but her natural Yellow Pearl eyes "Connie and Steven Universe...Thank you, my friends."
And with a gentle press from the edge of the shield, Seven is poofed. Her gem turns from a dark grey to a pale Yellow being caught by Stevonnie, licking a free hand and pressing their palm against the crack. It sparkles, seconds later, the Pale Yellow Pearl is repaired and Stevonnie bubbles her.
Stevonnie sees a large dent uphill and decides to store the bubble underneath it to prevent losing Seven. But they quickly master themselves and glare at the Lighthouse, they running towards it at full speed go to slash the barrier with the sword, only remembering it was snapped off by Seven. Stevonnie couldn't prevent some tears being shed, a piece of Steven's mother is broken. They gently lay the grip down on the grass and use their shield with the light aura to shatter the protection dark barrier used by Batis. They glare up at the lighthouse.
With the Crystal Gems, having the light inside their bodies proved incredibly useful. For once since the start of this battle, they were able to take down these hordes of dark gems. They hear a loud sound of a banshee screaming, making the ground shake below them. It was now or never, it was time to act and help Steven quickly as they could.
Garnet easily dispatched large amounts of dark gems using her gauntlets, quickly bubbling any gem up after they were defeated. Garnet feels incredibly relieved when the gems turn back to their normal colours, but it's safer instead to keep them bubbled if their minds are broken. Last thing they all need is another fight with a non-dark gem.
Pearl feels her confidence return when she fights off hordes of gems, being able to block and successful poof the dark gems was all she needed to believe they could win this fight. But the best part about this is all is rescuing the gems that were plagued by darkness. Pearl still needs to know, where did Batis find these previously dead gems? And how did he bring so many to this world? Only time will tell if Pearl ever gets an answer, she looks for her friends fighting the other remaining hordes.
Amethyst is having the time of her life, what could possibly be better than having a massive fight against different gems alive because of a dark magical force they knew nothing about and returning these gems to their original state! Amethyst easily whips a large corrupted gem down to their knees and causes them to poof. Amethyst poofs another gem and adds them to the collection of bubbled gems, she watches Lapis, Bismuth and Peridot working together to take down multiple dark gems are once, be it Lapis using the ocean to snatch them all up and crush them with enough pressure to safely collect the gems and bubble them.
Or when Peridot fired multiple laser beams with supportive fire coming from Bismuth, they poofed so many dark gems they wondered if this would ever end. But in time the amount got smaller and smaller, with Lapis quickly using her water bending to sweep the gems back to the group and bubble them faster or bring any stragglers to be poofed and bubbled.
The Crystal Gems all gather around and group hug, looking over their accomplishment as a team and family.
Garnet wipes some sweat away and looks at Lapis, Peridot and Bismuth "Can you all make sure these gems get to safety? We may have won the fight but the battle is far from won."
Bismuth surprised Pearl with a salute "You can count on us to get them home safe and sound!"
"Bismuth, you're always one to jump into action?" Pearl cautiously says.
"Of course I am Pearl! But saving all these gems is a top priority, the worst thing that happens is they all get shattered. You better find Steven and Connie, they'll appreciate the backup, we'll return once we have the gems in the bubble room!"
Amethyst kicks a pebble on the ground "The room is gonna be crowded...we even have some corrupted gems that haven't been fixed by the light you know?"
Garnet pats Amethyst's shoulder "We'll figure that out after you and Pearl will join me?"
Pearl spins her spear and nods "Let's help our Stevonnie!"
"Alriiiight! Stevonnie here we come!"
Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst rush to the lighthouse as quickly as they could, hoping they're not too late for anything or see the worst case scenario. But as they run up the hill, they see a bubbled gem wedged into a small dirt crater, they stop in front of the gem and Pearl carefully picks it up "It's Seven's gem! Stevonnie did it!"
"Keep her safe, we don't need her released at this time" Garnet says, running past Pearl.
Pearl keeps Seven close and rejoins her friends for the Lighthouse, not seeing the broken blade or the handle near the edge of the right side cliff.
XXX
Batis is panicking like never before, nervous spikes of dark magic burst around his crystal shell prison. Seven and the entire Dark Gems have fallen to the Crystal Gems "This is all the light's meddling! Damn them all! But it doesn't matter, the Gate just needs a little more time before-"
"Before what, "Duke" Batis of the Darkness?" an older voice Batis never heard before speaks out.
The floating crystal turns to face a person holding a large pink shield and wearing similar clothing to Steven and Connie. Batis carefully inspects the figure before him, it has to be a fusion between the human girl and half gem boy "Steven and Connie..it is...an honour to meet you again as one."
Stevonnie chuckles softly, walking over to Batis with a purposeful stride "Save it Batis, everything you tried to accomplish is lost, I defeated Seven and from what I can see my family has not only beaten your so called 'dark gems' but also bubbled every single one, their gems returned to their previous state...tell us Batis, where did you get those gems from? Why do something so cruel and awful? If you didn't do all of this and maybe been honest, who knows? We would've heard you out."
Batis takes the time to consider his choice words carefully while still maintaining the connection and opening of the Gate "Those gems were found when I travelled with Seven across the universe, most came from Yellow and Blue Diamond's space ships, but the majority of those gems came our travel to Earth, picking up a collection of dead gems being scattered across the cold and empty oceans of space itself. Why I brought them back to their forms was a matter to show you all the power of the Darkness and what we could accomplish, I have not lied during that instance. I didn't make up pretty words to entice you, you formed your own judgement when I told you our history and ambitions. And actions speak louder than words, I hoped the show of force and their strong endurance would be enough to convince you, your family and friends across Beach City and soon the world before the Darkness arrived. But you revisited and decided to take action..."
Stevonnie smiles widely, leaning against a frame to prevent Batis from escaping "And why aren't you trying to attack us?"
"Because...I wish to propose to you, the promise to bring your mother, Rose Quartz back to life. I was not lying about this, we have ways to bring many important figures back to life, with a hefty cost."
Stevonnie brings out their shield, glowing a white bright light "A hefty cost? Always some cost to everything it seems, but that cost can't justify bringing one life back when many other lives deserve to live."
Batis feels he is nearing the completion of the Gate, just another few minutes and careful choice of words "You have much since I first met you Steven, but please understand it was your desire that led you to where you are now. You have made trial and error, and thanks to those lessons you have come to the realisation of what's most important to you. Family."
"Yeah, Family is important, but you know what else is important? Our freedom to choose the lives we all want to live, your darkness no matter how noble or logical it sounds, isn't the way. We can't allow you to do this, Duke Batis" Stevonnie says, smacking the floating crystal out of its spot.
Batis makes a loud grunting noise and staggers away from his spot, trying desperately to return before getting smack from the shield "Duke Batis, Surrender! It's over!"
"Please listen to me! Just because you do not wish to see your mother again doesn't mean I don't! I've been banished long before this pathetic gem war, I will do whatever it takes to reunite with her again!"
Stevonnie pauses when Batis mentions his mother, then again, he did say is the son of Lord Aegithina "...Steven hasn't been alive for as long as you Batis, Connie hasn't either. But Steven knows the pain without having a mother at his side, but would he risk the freedom of all humans and gems for your personal desire? Unless you can return without ever coming back, you clearly did that when travelling from another dimension to return here with Seven."
"Where I am from isn't any standard or special dimension, this was the first! Where the Darkness and Light started, the dimension being the reason you see everything around you!" Batis becomes much more agitated "I do not have any normal means to travel home, this is the only way!"
Stevonnie bites their lower lip "We can't allow that, I'm sorry."
Batis' crystal form glows bright red, running out of options he has no choice but to use force "I cannot fight well in this form, but I can delay you!"
Stevonnie feels a painful shock throughout their body, Batis is using some powerful dark electricity magic on them. The sparks of red and black violently rip through their entire body, Batis takes the chance to return to his spot and complete the gate. He sees a clear view of his mother's facial features, her black lips and long pale face fill him with joy "Mother..."
But that joy is short lived when he senses Stevonnie getting back on their feet, resisting the electrocution by hiding their head and torso to avoid direct damage and potentially reduce the amount of electricity. The shield starts building up the dark electricity inside their shield, Batis tries to increase the dark magic and create more powerful arcane damage, but Stevonnie keeps walking towards him "This can't be happening!"
He looks over the completion of the Gate taking near perfect form, seeing the gate partially beyond it. Batis laughs joyfully, but a powerful force strikes Batis and breaks the link again. Stevonnie, like with Seven, smacks her around until they bring to the ground. They bubbling him up, but the bubble would instantly break apart "Fool! I am no mere gem or object, I am a god outside this form!"
Stevonnie raises the shield up high and starts beating down the crystal form, at first nothing was happening. But each repeated hit continued making small cracks in the form making Batis freak out "STOP! You're going to shatter me! You refused to shatter!"
"NO! YOU STOP!" Stevonnie screams, still being hurt by Batis "You can just stop doing this all! We can give you a better chance at life if you just give it a go! "
"And lose everything I was born for and earned for!? I would rather have this world under the rules of the darkness than being under your rules, especially with you being touched by the Light!" Batis retorts, blasting with everything the form can give out.
"T-Then...Y-You left me no choice! This is for the sake of all worlds and dimensions! THE DARKNESS SHALL NEVER DESTROY OUR FUTURES!" Stevonnie cries, making the shield glow brighter than she did before.
Batis can now something akin to a heartbeat racing inside his prison "NOOOOO!"
"I'M SO SORRY!" Stevonnie roars, smashing down hard into the crystal with the light and dark arcane magic.
Soon as the shield makes contact with Batis, an extraordinary explosion of light bursts out of the crystal's shell, Batis' thunderous screams of pain echo across the land. The white burst of power explodes like a flash bang, engulfing the top entirety of the Lighthouse including Stevonnie as they cry over Batis, ignoring the blast of burning light consuming the small Lantern room.
The crack in the dimension's wall starts rebuilding itself, covering the vision of Aegithina watching all this all unfold from her side until the Gate is sealed. The last thing Stevonnie sees when turning around to the crack is an evil smirk from Aegithina before their sight is blinded by the light, their body feeling a much more intense burn all over their body.
Soon it is only them floating in a lonely white void with no signs of life or interesting objects, just a fusion gem hearing a voice whisper around them, sounding similar to a gentle howl of wind passing through trees.
The End...Worlds End…
Stevonnie's form begins to falter, distorting within the white flame and beginning the separation of the two young lovers. Connie and Steven are now themselves again, but Connie is unconscious during this dangerous closing of events. Steven is partially conscious, feeling the burning white flames around his body which doesn't hurt at all, rather comforting him. He tries to reach out for Connie's hand, but she slips further away from him "Con…nie…I love…you…" he groans, passing out.
Steven begins drifting further away, the white void may consume him for eternity, then out of nowhere, an unknown hand takes hold of Steven's hand, pulling the young boy away from and speaks plainly "You've done well, Steven Universe…but your future has only just begun"
Steven slowly disappears into the white void without another sound made, Connie falls on the floor as small debris lands onto the girl's body. Connie stirs in her slumber seeing her boyfriend being dragged away into the light "Ste…ven…" she groans, slipping into unconsciousness.
…Our End…Won't End…
Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl are close to the lighthouse, they immediately stop when they see the top of the Lighthouse is bursting out with an incredible white energy until it soon dies down. The roof is completely gone and the glass surrounding is gone. The trio are panicking, swiftly climbing the lighthouse with unparalleled speed, when they all reach the top they yell "Steven! Connie! Where are you!?"
They look towards the direction of their house, the sun is slowly setting on the horizon. The crack that was in the air only just mended itself somehow. Vanishing at least from their perspectives, and as soon as it vanishes, the red sky slowly returns back to their familiar blue sky and the clouds move naturally. Birds fly past the trio singing beautiful tunes of early evening.
While they feel relieved life is coming back to the way things once were, their attention returns to the two children that fought a conflict but carried the weight of not just the Earth, but many other worlds on their shoulders. They had to be repaid with all the love and appreciation that was earned, but as they glanced around, Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst couldn't see either of them besides a pile of rubble, so the trio cleared the debris as fast as they could. Holding out hope for Steven and Connie making it out. To their relief, they find Connie dressed in her attire before being fused "Connie!" they quickly kneel down.
Pearl gently cradles Connie in her arms checking the girl's pulse and smiles "She's alive!"
Amethyst looks pleased hearing Steven's girlfriend is still alive, but looking around the small room with no ceiling she couldn't find a certain someone "W-wait, where's Steven!?"
Garnet carefully throws any rubble off the balcony, but Steven wasn't here. She quickly checks down the balconies of the Lighthouse wondering if he fell or was blasted into the ocean. Amethyst and Pearl made attempts to move more rubble to find nothing, this is a small area. They quickly check the staircase leading down but can't find any signs of Steven.
The Crystal Gems regroup to the top and call out for their family member "STEVEN!" they cry, but no response ever comes.
Garnet's mind was thinking differently, she bends the balcony's iron fence angrily "Where is Steven? What happened to him?!"
Pearl quickly holds Garnet's hand hoping to ease how upset she is "Garnet, please, let's not give up. He could still be around here somewhere, we'll keep searching. But now we must heal Beach City, the people come back to their homes and they'll need our help rebuilding and repairing their hearts, not just wood and stone…and Connie…she needs rest, they both did more than they were asked to."
Amethyst holds Garnet's other hand and smiles softly "Don't worry, Steven will be okay. He has been through a lot worse than this, survived with his dad on Blue Diamond's ship, survived being shattered on Homeworld and look at what he and Connie did together! I'm sure nothing bad has happened, but we'll look, I promise you!"
Garnet makes her visor disappear, showing tears of joy "T-Thanks you two, I'm glad you all are part of our world" she says, pulling her friends into a hug.
Pearl and Amethyst return the hug, breathing out happily, enjoying the moment together as the ocean roars in the background. For a few moments, the world seemed perfect once more…peaceful.
Connie stirs in Pearl's arms and rubs her eyes "Ugh…was that a dream?"
"Connie!" The gems say happily, hugging her tightly.
Connie feels too tired to be confused, she blinks a times and gathers her senses. Looking at her surroundings, it's all coming back to her. Connie starts explaining briefly what happened with Batis and…dismantled the Duke for good, they felt there wasn't any other option at the time "I'm sorry, it was a snap decision, we…shattered."
Garnet shakes her head disapprovingly "Don't apologise, he was about to open the gate and bubbling as you described wasn't working. He refused to surrender, if you didn't do something, the Darkness would've been all over this city, Earth and beyond."
"B-But we could've tried to pull him away or something!" Connie insists.
Pearl also shakes her head "You did what was the right thing, besides, Batis could've escaped and tried again somewhere else and taken innocent lives if they didn't have the knowledge…We're not judging you two, please understand."
The young girl tried to protest further but quickly let it go for now. She looks around to find Steven by their sides but he isn't "Wait, where's Steven?"
Amethyst looks deep in thought, wondering if it was worth asking the question until she asks "Steven isn't here, we were hoping you'd have an idea where he went. You were Stevonnie, if you went down, Steven went down. Unless he woke up and decided to leave?"
Pearl keeps a hold of Connie "That's ridiculous Amethyst, Steven couldn't have left on his own accord. After everything he went through and our recent heartfelt talks, that makes no sense. Besides, we would've been able to track him down thanks to Garnet's future vision…is it working now?"
Garnet's eyes move around, trying to concentrate if she can see what happens next "I'm partially getting future vision back, but it's still a little messy."
Connie gently moves out of Pearl's arms and steps on the floor, staring at the sunset "Steven…I remember seeing ourselves in a white void feeling the light inside our body. We separated, t-the last thing I heard was Steven saying he loves me…" she says, holding back her tears.
Garnet quickly kneels down and holds Connie's shoulders, her voice shaking "Did anything happen after he said that?"
"S-Steven…I saw him getting pulled into the void by someone's human looking bare hand!"
Amethyst, Pearl and Garnet take a moment to process what Connie told them wasn't a dream, but the girl's reactions are genuine. Pain seeps in the gems' minds, not wishing to accept Steven was taken away from them by a different force.
Amethyst clenches her teeth, squinting her eyes "What!? Something took him away!? But…n-no! That can't be right, it just isn't fair!"
Pearl's face begins twitching when the nerves kick in, her entire body trembles to match her voice "Connie, did…anything else happen?"
Connie is trying to maintain a strong appearance in front of them, but seeing them get upset affects her greatly "I-I heard a whisper in the void, it was saying 'The End, Worlds End, Our End, Won't End…I couldn't tell what kind of voice it was. But I know there was another voice when that hand took Steven, it sounded masculine…" she gasps, covering her face to cry.
Pearl seeing Connie upset is the reminder Connie is hurting just as much if not more than they are, she strokes the girl's head "I think we should go home everyone…we'll figure what to do tomorrow."
"Wait, just a second" Garnet asks gently, holding Connie's face, using her thumbs to wipe her tears away "I'm sorry Connie, but I have to insist…what did that other voice say to you?"
Connie sniffs loudly, holding onto Garnet's strong but soft hands "He said Steven did well, but his future had only just begun."
The Crystal Gem trio are speechless, looking to one another for any signs of support and understanding. But none of them knew what to say, they couldn't do anything at all…at least, not right now. They'll need time to recover and figure out how to get Steven back, wherever he is.
Pearl looks over the floor for any remains of Batis' crystal shell, not a single trace for Peridot to research. They feel an intense urge for another callout, maybe just maybe if they're loud enough, Steven will call out and rejoin them like a happy family.
Pearl offers Connie her hand, seeing the girl look up curiously the gem smiles warmly "Let's go home Connie, you protected the world and many others from the Darkness' control. You should be proud."
Connie becomes unsettled at the idea they're giving up "H-Home?! But we can't give up! We need to find Steven!"
Amethyst shakes her head looking slightly annoyed but sympathetic "Connie, they're trying to be nice but I'm just gonna be blunt here. Unless you know a way we can find Steven that we haven't thought about, now's the time."
Connie tries remembering if there is anything she could provide for them, if Seven or Batis said something important enough. She tries so hard to think of at least one, but in the end she has to concede her objection "I'm sorry, you're right."
Amethyst rolls her eyes and gives a small pat on the girl's shoulder "Oh don't get all mopey on us, this is your victory! You kicked some serious butt today, but the most important thing right now is getting some rest…The Future is ours now, we gotta protect it. And we'll find Steven again, even if we gotta fight for it."
Garnet winks for Amethyst "Spoken like a true poet."
"I'll say!" Pearl chuckles amused.
Amethyst blushes faintly, glaring at her friends playfully "Shut it!"
Connie couldn't resist cracking a smile "Thanks Amethyst, Pearl and Garnet. You guys are the best."
Pearl smiles proudly "We aim to please, now, let's walk down and head home…" she stares into Garnet's and Amethyst's souls "And not jump over a cliff just because it's easier. Let's enjoy the moment like other humans."
Garnet and Amethyst's hands shoot up and smiles nervously "Yes ma'am!"
And with that, the four of them begin to walk down the stairs which are surprisingly intact. Connie takes another look where she and Steven destroyed Batis, whispering to herself before heading down "I love you too, we'll find you…"
An hour has gone by since Crystal Gems left the Lighthouse for their home. The sun has already set, calm winds blow around the Lighthouse and birds sing before returning to their nests for the night. Soon, a faint white pinkish glow that appears in the centre of the lantern floor, a figure slowly forms into a humanoid and gently lands on the floor without making a sound. They open their eyes and feel shocked, touching their body and looking around frantically. They make a shocked gasp, sounding surprised at what they see. They prepared to jump off the tower towards the east ocean but decided to take a look around the view.
They see a small city with buildings up ahead, but cover their mouth when seeing some destruction on the field and houses. A small shine sparkles from below, making the figure jump down the Lighthouse and lands like a feather. They slowly pick up a large of a broken pink blade and barely see a handle which must belong to this blade, going over to it and inspecting it. But before they could do anything, they heard sounds of something entering Earth's atmosphere. Two large arms with hands approach, one is yellow and the other is blue. They stand in awe for a moment, before making a mad dash to the East Ocean and jumping off the cliff. They're shocked when looking down, seeing a small house "When…was this made?"
Beach House
Everyone present is sitting with the others in the living room section, Connie is sitting down on the couch holding a cup of tea in both hands while a blanket is covering her back. She looks around the room sadly and then turns her head up towards Stevens bedroom, it feels strange that he isn't here with them all. The other Gems in the room while having high spirits before have come to terms that Steven isn't with them now. As soon as they got back, Bismuth, Lapis and Peridot asked how everything went down, which was explained in decent detail. But when hearing Steven isn't with them and possibly been taken away by some force from the light, they haven't said much since.
Everyone sat in silence, the biggest questions in their minds were how would they find Steven going off nothing? Bismuth takes a glance to the bubbled Seven is now contained in, she poses a question for the other "Wouldn't the best person to ask is Seven herself? Doesn't she have knowledge of how the Light works if she worked alongside Batis?"
Garnet nods slightly, rubbing her hands together "The thoughts did occur, but we're not convinced Seven knows how the Light works with her reactions from holding a purified gem in her talons. Connie said she believes Seven has somewhat come to peace with Steven and herself, but the risk is too great even if she is purified…"
Peridot grumbles loudly, standing on the couch and yells feeling upset "But what choice do we have left then!? Unless I've got something to work with in order to track The Light, I can't do much! I'm sorry!"
Lapis gently brings Peridot into a hug "Peri, it's okay! Nobody is judging you, we only asked because we thought the Roaming Eye stored Data on the Light. That's all."
Amethyst looks at her hands and body "I thought we were blessed or whatever you call it with the Light thanks to Steven? Shouldn't we be enough?
Pearl touches her palms to see if anything would activate "Unfortunately I think we lost the light ever since we left that Lighthouse, I didn't notice it until we sat down and thought about things."
Connie breathes out tiredly and smiles weakly "Everyone, let's not fight or argue about things. As you said Amethyst, this is our victory. So we should start celebrating it first thing tomorrow, let's try and get everyone back to the city and help rebuild. It's the least we can do until we find a new method to find Steven."
Bismuth grins widely and slaps her knee "Well said Little Miss Connie! That deserves your own sword! What do you say?"
Connie quickly gets up and realises something "Oh no! The sword! We left it up there!"
Peridot tilts her sword "Sword? What Sword?"
They all slowly stare at Peridot with a good amount of scepticism "What?" They ask warily.
Peridot holds her hands up "It was a reference to World of GemCraft…cancelled Raid night tonight to be with you all."
Connie smiles hearing Peridot being so sweet at the end, she walks to the door "Well, I'm going back up to retrieve it. I shouldn't be too long-...Guys? There's two large arms floating in the Sky!"
The Crystal Gems take a moment to think before sprinting out of the seats and running outside to look at what Connie sees on their balcony. To shocking disbelief, those two blowing arms belong to Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond. But these looked meaner, sharper and less big in scale.
Before they could react they saw two yellow and blue hands slam into the land making everything tremble and quake. Revealing two tall figures, one is wearing a long blue gown and with long yellow boots. The Crystal Gems stand in horror seeing the Diamonds themselves on Earth, at this location and seeing them up close and personal, and they look so furious. Their hateful glares could break any normal human spirit into submission, but they seem more likely to destroy.
Blue Diamond sees the group in the distance, never taking her glare off them when talking to Yellow "Wouldn't it be wiser to activate the Cluster while we're here?"
Yellow shakes her head like stones grinding one another "All that matters right now is destroying that gem Seven…and since we're here, those allies of Rose Quartz will make a good bonus…"
Peridot groans loudly and falls onto her knees screaming loudly "OH COME OOOON! WE WERE TOLD YOU GOT DESTROYED! ISN'T ONE INVASION ENOUGH!?"
Blue's brow raises curiously, inspecting her surroundings for signs of invasions "Curious, something was definitely here…a powerful dark force…"
Yellow Diamond doesn't attempt to ignore Blue Diamond or dismiss her words, she too is looking around with a raised brow "Yes, you're right…" her glare returns for the Crystal Gems "...You all can join that force once we end you. Where is Seven, and I promise this will be a quick shattering…"
When they get no response, Yellow laughs loudly and cruelly "Good, that's the response I want."
Garnet forms her gauntlets "Prepare for battle! No rest for the wicked!"
Yellow was about to fire an electrical blast at them all, and Blue was preparing an energy projection. Before they could strike, they heard a loud voice scream from above "STOP!"
Everyone on that beach quickly looks up to the source of the voice who isn't in clear view, but the figure is slowly falling down making their features much clearer. Yellow and Blue look at each other with dismay alongside the Crystal Gem group feeling a state of shock seeing the figure float down to the sand making zero sound. Their arms spread out wide and face Blue and Yellow "Stop this! Both of you fools!" they plead in a feminine voice.
Yellow and Blue couldn't stop their hands from covering their mouths, not saying anything. The figure slowly turns to the Crystal Gem group who run towards the figure in awe, but affecting Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst and Bismuth the most alongside Blue and Yellow. Their voices have become incredibly shaken, surprising themselves when they couldn't mutter the word from their mouths.
The figure looks over the Crystal Gems, visibly overjoyed to see them all but quickly becomes concerned "Where…is he?"
She has a pale pink complexion with a diamond-shaped gemstone on her navel, wearing white stockings and soft pink flats. The hair is large and coloured pink, resembling cotton candy. She looks to Blue and Yellow, feeling strong emotions from the past coming back and looking to see Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst, some new faces and…Bismuth. It's like the past has come back to haunt her, for good reasons.
The figure looks back to the Crystal Gems, clenching her fist tightly "...Where is my son?"
Everybody on the beach uttered "Rose/Pink…"
Unknown
Steven Universe regains consciousness to find himself in a field seeing many trees with beautiful red apples hanging from them. The boy slowly picks himself up and looks around to see if anything looks familiar, nothing rings any bells. Deep down, Steven wonders if he separated and passed on into a different part of life, the afterlife? He didn't know much about the subject matter, but did learn from Connie about what her family thinks. The only thing missing was large trees with red apples in some forest, Steven puts his hands near his mouth and calls out "Helloooo?~"
Steven can hear his echo, but seemingly nothing happened. The boy sighs heavily in defeat "So this is it? I'm…dead, aren't I?"
He begins hugging his body and sniffs nervously "Who would've thought, being alone would feel so cold."
Suddenly, a voice speaks out from behind "If you're going to prattle, at least make it dignified, Mr. Universe…"
Steven is caught off guard by the voice and summons his shield, ready to fight whoever threatens him. But upon seeing who it is, Steven takes a step back "Y-You! You're the Stranger from earlier!"
The Stranger wearing the green trench coat, green trousers and black shoes. Underneath the coat is different shades of green in that three piece suit on closer inspection. The white long sleeved shirt and black tie are underneath. The Stranger's face isn't covered by shadow, still wearing round glasses and has a beard that contains black with mostly grey hair. The Stranger is wearing a green fedora hat
He doesn't respond to Steven's surprise, instead he walks away from Steven "You can stand there or you follow me, and meet the people you'll be staying with."
Steven follows the Stranger in his smart green suit "P-Please! I need answers! Who are you!? What happened and am I dead?!"
Stranger doesn't stop as he walks "Just call me the Stranger, I get it a and your partner almost got sucked into the void where you've been floating in a burning paradise of white heat. Not that it had any effect on you, and no, you're standing here talking to me. Now follow."
"B-But where are we going!? Why am I here!?"
The Stranger stops and points in a direction "I believe I found some use of you, I think you'll fit right in when I form a team of my own. Move."
Steven stands his ground, folding his arms and refusing to move "No! Why should I listen? I need answers!"
"…You will listen, Steven. Like it or not, but I gave you something that was part of me to temporarily help provide you a fighting chance during the fight with Seven and Batis. You owe me this, Mr. Universe, and you know it."
Steven curses to himself, he did in fact accept that small burning white star and used it to defeat the dark gems, Seven and Batis themselves. But he was still wondering who this man was and why he even helped in the first place, just because he wants Steven to be part of some team?
"First, thanks for helping us out. I really appreciate it. Second, I wanna believe you have the best intentions, but all this for a team? What's your ultimate goal, Stranger?"
"Believe me when I say this Mr. Universe, just because you were able to partially stop the
Darkness from invading your world doesn't mean that other worlds aren't in danger. In fact, with the death of Duke Batis, the Darkness is more than likely to double its efforts now that he's gone."
Steven freezes hearing that from the Stranger "Y-You mean…"
The Stranger nods, still walking down the fields of apple trees "Yes, you killed a Duke of the Darkness, who is the son of a Lord, Aegithina…You think she's going to let this go?"
"N…no."
The Stranger nods "Glad we have an understanding. But right now, it's important you rest and recover from the battles. I chose this place because someone also went through a tough situation. And he's on my list for the team, whether or not he accepts is not his choice."
The man stops in his tracks and points Steven into the right direction "Simply continue going forward from here and eventually you meet someone. Now go, I have other matters to attend to…"
Steven spins around, calling out for the Stranger "Wait! What's going on!? What did you bring me into!? Will I ever see my family again!?"
The Stranger stops for a moment speaking out without turning around "A War that never ended…" he says, moving around some trees and leaving the boy's sight "And that depends on you…" the voice echoes with the rustling leaves.
With no other alternatives or places he could go, Steven keeps walking so where the Stranger pointed. The trees become less, finding himself a clearing and sees a barn in the distance. One thing is for certain, he isn't in Beach City anymore. The barn is a strange looking design then seen in photos, the barn walls are rogue colour while the tiles are a light purple. He looks around him and see the hills are extremely tall than he had seen before.
Steven keeps walking towards the barn very cautiously, worried this could be some elaborate trap.
But suddenly a tall looking young man wearing a cowboy hat, black jeans and trainers with rainbow stripes on the sides and a grey t-shirt walks out from the barn holding a bottle of apple juice.
Steven begins to approach the young man who is sipping on the bottle of apple juice looking out somewhere "E-Excuse me, sir! I'm lost!"
The young man turns to face who is talking by giving a welcoming smile "Well hello! Welcome to the Sweet Apple-"
Steven hears the American English tone, but the accent has some southern tone to it "H-Hi! I'm Steven Universe, from Beach City! Nice to meet you?" he says worryingly, offering his hand for a shake.
The young man stares at Steven in shock and slowly shakes the boy's hand "Hello…May I ask how you got here?"
Steven chuckles a bit, trying to shake but the young man is a lot stronger than Steven realised, but smiles acting like normal "You wouldn't believe me when I say this, but I was transported here! It's a long story."
"It's…Nice to you, Mr. Universe, I'm Joseph Brooklyn…welcome to the land of Equestria" Joseph said softly.
Steven's mind becomes blank, thinking about if he heard that right "E…Equestria?"
The End
Space, Unknown
Lord Aegithina is staring into an empty void, ignoring a planet behind her covered in Darkness and the subjects that kneeled before her. She hasn't said a word for over an hour, this makes her advisors and lackeys extremely worried and fearful of her.
One of three accompanying her named War tries to speak "Lord Aegithina, I understand what you're going through…"
The figure with long white frizzly turns her head around, her hair covering the but not the black lips. Aegithina's pitch black armour made her much more intimidated if her upcoming words weren't enough "You understand what I'm going through?...You said…You understand what I'm going through!?"
Aegithina quickly approaches War and picks him up like he was nothing, and begins shaking him violently "I've lost my son to that half breed Steven Universe, his merry band of Crystal Gems! Seven was good but not developed or perfect…but my son? Who apologised from his voice towards me, his mothe. War, let me make myself perfectly clear to you. If I ever hear something like that from you again, I won't hesitate to end you right…Understood?"
"Gcckk! Yes…Lord Aegithina…I'-I'm sorry."
"Me and my son may not have eye to eye before, and I do and shall forever acknowledge my own mistakes and mistreatment…but he was my son in the end, and I loved him very much. The Light sealed him away from me, to places I couldn't not reach. Get out of my sight, don't disturb me until I see you, and make it double for the other two" She growls, letting go of War and watching him leave the room like a useless child.
Aegithina breathes out slowly, wiping away a faint tear. She turns around and smirks seeing shadow figures' red eyes covered in shadow "It seemed like Iris didn't help your world after all that talk, you should've established communications earlier, Well done…how does it feel, Tracer? How does it feel to have the Darkness part of your life?"
Tracer is covered in shadows and has glowing red, but still going past "If feels great love! Just give us the direction and we'll do whatever it takes to achieve your vision, Lord Aethiana. You have former Overwatch units and Talon are at your disposal!"
Aegithina's pale long face with black lipsticks simply smirked evilly "Yes, oh yes I do…We shall prepare to accelerate our operation to the max. Ensure Operation Three Worlds is being seen to, effectively immediately."
Steven Universe WILL return!
Holy hell, I am so sorry for taking so long to write this. I went through different revisions and some rewrites, many days I simply did no writing at all. But when the creative juices got going it got going!
This is the longest chapter I have ever written. 30k+ works and 57 pages. Damn
I confess, I feel I could've done better with more details and better fight scenes, but I am proud of this fanfic more than I am of my MLP one.
I honest never intended to finish this fanfic, I left it for 3 years until when I writing a different fic, I felt it was wrong to leave this one. So I came back with an intent to get it done. And I have.
Thank you all for joining! I greatly appreciate the recent reviews, and please stay tuned for a secret chapter 30 *winks* Until next time!
WE...ARE THE CRYSTAL GEMS!
