Chapter 12: Under the Cloak:
Fédora's POV:
The Grand Duchess informed us all that Grigori was dead. I then started to cry.
"And it's thanks to this brave man," says the Grand Duchess, "that I am saved!"
"My pleasure!" I was horrified! It was Mukhin! Has he been here the whole time?
"Father, we must find a way to thank him," says the Grand Duchess, "perhaps... I could give him my hand!"
"Your husband just died," says Tsar Mazhulin.
"Yes, but he may help me get over my loss," says the Grand Duchess.
"It's as if you do not care," says Tsar Mazhulin.
Mukhin then sees me. He then walks towards me. I tried to avoid eye contact. "And who might you be?"
"My name is Donkeyskin!"
"Interesting. I had a cloak made from the hide of a donkey... it looks just like the one you're wearing!" He then pulls it off me. Everyone sees.
"The mysterious maiden," a man asks.
"She's more than just a mysterious maiden," says Mukhin, "she's my missing betrothed! Change of plans! I'm going to pick up where I started!"
"What are you saying," asks the Grand Duchess, "you said you'd marry me!"
"I know, but I wanted her first and honestly, you don't compare to her in beauty," says Mukhin.
"You killed my Father and I bet you destroyed my kingdom," I said, "I would never marry you!"
"You cannot prove any of that," says Mukhin.
"I killed my husband for you," says the Grand Duchess. We all heard that. "Wait..."
"Did someone mention me," asks Grigori as he came in with Grafov. "Wait, is that the maiden? What's she-" He then sees the cloak in Mukhin's hand. "UUUUUUUUUhhhhhhhhh..."
"Allow me to explain," says Tsar Mazhulin, "apparently, Donkeyskin is the mysterious maiden as well as the Grand Duchess of the destroyed Paiviel Kingdom, my daughter's a murderer, which you knew about before us, and our visitor's also a murderer who's trying to force this young lady to marry him."
"This has been one crazy week," says Grafov, "I'm going to lie down."
Mukhin then grabs a sword. "No one will take me!"
Grigori then grabbed a sword and they fought, but Grigori won!
"Grigori, Darling..." Varushkina begins.
"Save it," Grigori says.
. . .
Mukhin and Varushkina were then executed for their crimes. It was hard for the Tsar to execute his daughter, so he gives his kingdom to us. You see, Grigori and I got married. And you won't believe what else happened!
"Fédora!"
"Putilova," I said, "you're alive?"
"I managed to escape, so this is where you live now," says Putilova.
"Hello, I'm Grafov."
. . .
And we had another ball and this time, I was wearing a normal dress. I saw a white swan flying by and in my kingdom, it was said that if one sees a white swan then it is a sign that extraordinary good things will happen to my descendants.
The End
