ACT 1

Chapter 1 - Into the Unknown - Part 1

"Ahhh… you just can't get a day as good as this," Sonic commented as he stretched his back and relaxed on his beach chair. The blue hedgehog was resting at one of his favorite spots to chill, Emerald Coast. "I don't remember the last time I had time to relax with Eggman trying to conquer Mobius."

'And now that I think about it, none of us knew what happened to Eggman after I and the resistance took down Eggman's control over the world.' Sonic thought, realizing the sudden peacefulness over the past year of rebuilding the damage Eggman caused. It felt kinda… uneventful to say the least.

Suddenly, he hears the sound of a ringtone coming from the communicator that he left on the small table next to him. Sonic sighs at this, hoping that he might not have spoken too soon. He grabbed his communicator and answered the call.

"Yello? Fastest Thing Alive speaking?" Sonic said.

"Sonic! Come to my workshop quick! I have something I want to show you!" Sonic heard the voice of a young boy, sounding very excited.

"Tails? What's got you this excited, bud?" Sonic asked curiously with a quirk of an eyebrow.

"Never mind that! I already called the others to join. Just get here, you'll be amazed at what I have discovered!" Tails said before hanging up on Sonic, not letting the poor blue blur ask any further questions.

"Hmm… well, I better get to it then," Sonic said as he leaped up from his chair and ran straight to the Mystic Ruins. "I wonder what Tails has found that gets him this giddy?" Sonic asks himself.

One Train Ride Later…

Sonic made it to his destination: The Mystic Ruins. Home to the ancient ruins of the past and swampy overgrown forests. He runs up a set of stairs and sees Tails' Workshop up ahead on a cliff. The Fox had a couple of workshops around the world in case of an emergency, but this one he declares to be his main base of operations and his one and only home.

Sonic speeds his way up to the front door, knocks on it a couple of times, and waited impatiently with his foot tapping rappidly.

A few seconds passed until the door opened and revealed a yellow two-tailed fox with his goggles on his forehead.

"Sonic! I'm glad you've made it!" Tails said happily. "Come in! Everyone else is waiting."

Sonic walks in and sees his friends, Knuckles and Amy, standing in the middle of the small workshop, while Tails goes to the other room.

"Sup guys! How's it going?" Sonic asked.

"Doing alright," Amy responded with a smile and asked Sonic back. "How about you?"

"Eh, just relaxing, catching some z's."

"Hmph. You? Relaxing? You're usually on the move and don't have time to relax, Blue." Knuckles commented.

"Hey, I can take breaks every once in a while. Unlike you." Sonic snarked at Knuckles

"What is that supposed to mean?" Knuckles looked angrily at the Blue Blur

"Come on, Knux. You're always been guarding the Master Emerald for like, 24/7. Just standing around doing nothing." Sonic said.

"And it's been my duty to guard it and keep it safe from the wrong hands." Knuckles said. "That's why I want Tails to hurry this up so that I can get back to my island."

"And you won't have to wait any longer!" Tails stated before Sonic could make another comment as he walked back from the other room with him wheeling a large object to the center of his workshop covered in a white blanket.

"What'cha got there, buddy?" Sonic asked curiously.

"So, remember when the Phantom Ruby caused a distortion to our world and brought the other Sonic from his dimension to here?" Tails questions.

"Yeah?" Sonic, Knuckles, and Amy said in unison.

"Well, after that whole ordeal, I couldn't stop thinking about all of the possibilities about other dimensions in existence. So I got to work, and made these!" Tails then pulls back the blanket, revealing a medium-sized tube containing 4 ring like discs with a blue ring light with different colored outlines for each one surrounding them, floating inside the container.

"Cool… Um… What are they?" Sonic questions.

"Well they're–"

Suddenly, the alarms started blaring inside the workshop. Making everyone in the room to be alerted by the sound.

"Uh, Tails? What's going on?" Knuckles questioned the young genius fox.

"I'm not sure. Let me check." Tails quickly ran over to his monitor and typed in a few keys until all of a sudden the screen turned to static and then afterwards revealed the face of the evil Dr. Eggman as he lets out a big laugh.

"HO HO HO HO HO!"

"EGGMAN?!" Everyone in the room shouted in shock.

"Well, good evening my fellow chumps! I see that you four are having a bit of fun and you didn't even invite me?! I'm hurt." Eggman mockingly commented.

"Just get on with it. What do you want now, Eggface?" Sonic said with a frown.

"I just wanted to let you know that you all will be the first to witness my glorious return with my newly built Egg Fleet! And I will use every bit of fire power to finally destroy you and your little resistance. My absence may put you all at peace, but it only delayed the inevitable in rebuilding my Eggman Empire, AND RECLAIMING MY CONQUERING MOBIUS! HAHAHAHAHA!!" Eggman explained before he cackles until he recomposed himself. "How about I give you an exclusive appetizer before the main course. Ta ta!"

Suddenly they hear a big crash coming from outside. As soon as everyone got outside, they saw a giant one-eyed Crabmeat Badnik crash landed in an open area of the Mystic Ruins.

"A Super Badnik? Seriously? We beat these guys constantly, can't he come up with better material?" Sonic commented in an annoyed tone.

His question was soon answered as they heard a very familiar sound as the Crabmeat was then surrounded by red and purple cubes as it began to morph and glitch. Its pincers were wider and sharper, heavier and bulky armor, and grew twice its size so that it reached half of the waterfall.

"Oh…" Sonic simply said.

"You just had to say something, didn't you?" Knuckles groaned.

"Wait, was it using the Phantom Ruby to morph?" Tails questioned.

"Heh, it doesn't matter what kind of upgrade Egghead gives to his bots. It won't be a match for the four of us, right guys?" Sonic declared with a smirk on his face.

"Right!" everyone else said in unison.

The powered-up Super Badnik attempts to squash them with its sharp pincers, but Team Sonic quickly spreads out of the line of attack.

"Try to avoid those claws! One snap from those things and we're cooked!" Sonic ordered before spin dashed away from the incoming claw.

Tails readies his newly improved arm-cannon. A more slimmer size with a fresh coat of blue and yellow paint. He begins to charge up a blast before shooting it straight to its legs, causing enough damage that made the Super Badnik nearly fall onto its side for a bit.

Knuckles follows suit as he leaps in the air and reels in a fiery punch right into its second leg. And lastly Amy swung her hammer towards its third and final leg. But not before swinging upwards to its under belly, making the Super Crabmeat fall on its back.

Sonic took this as an opportunity to strike it while it was down. He quickly gathers enough speed as he runs towards the rocky walls. He jumps on it and leaps off it before shouting, "Tails!"

"Right!" The two-tailed fox quickly responds as he flies towards Sonic and grabs him by the hands.

The Super Crabmeat opens its eye, looking a bit dizzy and disoriented before it hears a quick whistle. It turns towards the direction of the noise and then widens its eye in fear. It sees the Fox and Hedgehog having a winning smirk on their faces.

"How about a taste of a Spin Dash Special, coming right up!" Sonic quipped before Tails spun Sonic around, getting faster and faster.

Gaining enough speed and momentum, Tails launches Sonic towards the Super Badnik, looking like a speeding blue bullet, and smashes straight through it.

As soon as Sonic bounced back at a distance and landed in a crouched position, he looked back expecting it to explode into a million pieces. But, nothing of the sort happened. All it did was glitch out and surprisingly divided itself into two, though shrinking down their size a bit in the process.

"Well uh… That's a new trick." Sonic awkwardly commented as everyone else regrouped.

"I knew the Phantom Ruby can create multiple copies, but this is on a whole different level." Tails said, looking amazed but also terrified about this new revelation.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's just keep fighting until there's nothing left of it." Knuckles said as he punched both of his fists.

"Knuckles, let's not go charging in without a plan. I'm pretty sure if we keep smashing one of them, then they'll just duplicate more and more." Amy said, putting a hand on Knuckles' shoulder.

Tails hummed at this until he saw something glowing in one of the Phantom Badniks head "Not unless we take out its main source." Tails pointed towards one of the Super Crabmeat and they noticed that it had a small glowing dome on top of its head. Actually both of them had.

"Great find, little bro. Knuckles, Amy, I need you both to distract those Super Badniks, While Tails and I surprise it from high up. Think you can do that?" Sonic ordered.

"Don't worry, we'll hold them off for as long as we can." Amy said determinedly.

"Hmph, Have you forgotten who you're talking to, Blue? Piece of cake!" Knuckles said cockingly as he punched both of his fists together.

Sonic smirked, "Then let's do it, to it!"

Knuckles and Amy immediately charged in first before splitting up, avoiding a strike from the sharp pincers in the process.

The red Echidna slid to a stop in front of the Super Badnik before dodging another giant pincer by jumping high up. The Crabmeat's claw got stuck on the ground and Knuckles took this as an opportunity to strike it right in the claw, causing it to release from the ground and shaking itself in the face.

As Knuckles smirked at this, and not hearing Amy shout out, "LOOK OUT!"

He was caught off guard by a sudden strike on his back, making him crash onto a rocky wall. He looked back seeing the other Super Crabmeat, charging toward him. Knuckles charged up a spin dash on the wall and dashed upwards, just in time as a sharp pincer crashed into the rocky wall, getting it stuck again.

Knuckles uncurled and latched onto the cliff with his knuckles and called out to Amy, "Looks like I got a clear shot for you, Amy! Go for it!"

The pink hedgehog rushed in, while giving her friend a thumbs up, jumped up from one of the legs and charged up an attack right at the weak spot with her hammer. She attacks it multiple times before giving one last strike before jumping back to the ground.

Amy grunted at the impact before she stopped ascending and then began to descend from the sky and into a free fall. Thankfully, she was caught by Knuckles by the hands as the Echidna gilded back around towards the now freed Phantom Ruby powered Super Badnik.

The giant crab turned around, trying to find their targets before it heard a whistle from above. It looked up saw two red and pink balls fast approaching. But, the robot is not gonna fall for the same trick twice, so it immediately swipes both of them to the ground.

Both Amy and Knuckles were struggling to get up as they started to feel a bit sore from the impact. They both looked up to see both Super Crabmeats surrounding the strong duo. But what the two robots didn't know was that Sonic and Tails were sneaking up from behind as they both landed on each of the robots back right at the cores and both of them struck at the core causing both bots to contort and glitch, looking like they were about to explode.

So without taking any chances, the dynamic duo quickly grabbed Knuckles and Amy and rushed out of there, just in time before the Super Badniks finally exploded into fiery bits with some effects of the Ruby lingering in.

"Everyone all right?" Sonic asked.

"Yeah… but that really took a toll on us than usual." Amy answered.

"Eggman really took us by surprise with this one." Knuckles commented.

"Which makes me even more worried if the Phantom Ruby has been restored. I thought we took care of it for good." Tails said worryingly.

"Then it looks like we have to pay the good old doc a visit. Tails fired up the tornado. We're heading straight to Eggman." Sonic said determinedly.

Tails nodded in agreement as he bolted back into his workshop.

"I'm coming with you. Don't expect to take all of the fun without me." Knuckles said with a fanged smirk on his muzzle.

"What to wanting to go back to your island, Mr. Guardian of the Master Emerald?" Sonic teased Knuckles.

"I can still do both. But at this moment, Eggman is our big priority and you guys need enough backup if something goes south." Knuckles said.

Sonic was surprised by this. Usually Knuckles would find some form of excuse when necessary to go back to his island without any trouble. But to him voluntarily going with them and not acting impatient about it this time then how he was before (especially before Eggman took over the world for a bit being the only exception.) It's kinda refreshing having Knuckles not being all paranoid about not fulfilling his duty as Guardian.

"Uh Sonic? I think we have a problem." Tails came back with a radar in his hand and a worried look on his face. That's not good.

"Wassup?" Sonic asked.

"The Emerald Radar is detecting some massive Chaos Energy spikes coming from Angel Island. And I think it's coming from the Master Emerald." Tails said with a nervous tone.

"What…?" Knuckles stopped for a second before his face turned into shock and quickly morphed into pure rage, "WHAT?!"

'Aaaand… there we go…" Sonic, Tails, and Amy collectively thought at the same time.

Alright Chapter 1 is finally done. That took me a lot longer than expected.

Hey guys! How's it going? So I know I have been silent for a very long while and It was mostly because I was having a bit of a mental crisis as you can say. I don't know how to explain this, but basically… I was having some worrying thoughts (and no, they are not the "you know what" kind of thoughts.) and they were distracting me from my daily life and thanks to some of my family members and friends that I respect, I'm feeling a lot better now.

... ...

… is what I would say, if I hadn't taken my wisdom teeth out two days ago.

So basically, I just just got my wisdom teeth out, all three of them, and now I'm suffering from a lot of pain and taking medication for it to fully heal.

But it didn't stop me from finishing this chapter!

I should start on part 2 before working on anything else at the moment, because I wanted this to be a full on chapter. But, I decided to split it into two parts to make it easier for me and have it at a more decent pace.
