Matters Of The Heart

Chapter 5

Sometimes when you're young you think nothing can hurt you. It's like being invincible. Your whole life is ahead of you.

But as you get older you realize it's not always that easy.

What are you so busy doing you can't hang out? Nathan added to his previous text.

Brooke quickly started to type. I'm at dinner. I just got here. I don't know when i'm leaving.

Just send me the location. I can drop by. Are Peyton or Rachel in town? Nathan texted.

No they aren't and you can't just drop by i'm not at a party or a bar. I'll reach out later. Brooke replied. Before turning off her cellphone.

She soon found her way to the kitchen. It was warm and comfortable. Every aspect of the house felt lived in.

She was used to that. And found herself drawn to it. She listened closely to stories Karen and Keith told. As she ate food and saw a new side to Lucas. As he shared stories of his own.

She couldn't grasp that they had grown up in the same town and had such seperate experiences growing up.

Karen and Keith were interested in her. And they asked about how she grew up. Her parents. And she decided to keep it brief.

Because she knew it would bring the mood down and she didn't want to do that.

After taking their dessert to go. Lucas insisted he take her for a they were in the entryway alone.

"Where exactly?" Brooke asked.

"That would ruin the surprise." Lucas replied.

A short drive later. Lucas lead the way towards the plaza of shopping areas and places to eat.

When he unlocked one of the vacant store fronts.

Brooke looked to him. But followed him.

"My mom had bought this extra store space planning to expand the cafe but that didn't happen. And its been empty for months."

"It's paid off and everything. I told her about you're love and talent for fashion. She said. If you wanted you could have the store front." Lucas explained.

Brooke looked back at him with a surprised expression. Her eyes wide.

"Why would you do this for me?" Brooke questioned.

Awaiting the other shoe to drop. For his mask to fall.

Guys didnt do this without wanting something in return.

"I care about you and i want to see you make this a reality."

"I've seen you're sketches and the designs you wear and showcase yourself. The world should know you Brooke."

"I just want to watch you shine. Do you're thing." Lucas proclaimed.

"Thank you." Brooke said. Leaning over to kiss him softly.

Lucas kissed her back. Pulling her closer to him.

When she felt his hands start to touch and roam her body.

She broke the kiss. "These past few weeks. That's all it took for me to fall for her so hard. It scares me more then you realize."

"Despite what the rumors have said. I haven't been with any guy without my clothes on. I thought the right guy would come along and he didn't."

"I know that's alot of pressure for most guys. If you lose interest in me now. I wouldn't hold it against you. It happened before."

"I've been called a tease more then you realize." Brooke confessed.
