Day of Exodus

Six Years Later

Adventure Bay, PAW Patrol Lookout

They took it all in while they still could, the grass on their pads, the warm breeze brushing gently against their fur hitting their noses with the scent of late spring flowers, and the sounds of earthly birds singing their morning songs while completely unaware of their impending extinction. One hour was all they had left before all ships were cleared for launch.

It was a nice day in Adventure Bay, hell, probably the prettiest day they've had since the grave discovery several years back. Perhaps Mother Earth bidding her last farewell to her children, or just a further insult to the somber mood.

Whatever it was, the young dogs took no joy in this. Some were deeply depressed and weeped, the reality hitting them with how they took these days for granted. Others felt overwhelming fear and anxiety, the only chance of surviving Earth's demise is to take off to some planet a thousand light years away that 'most likely' can support life on the world's first starships that are still mostly experimental… through a hole torn into some pocket universe.

Sure, the odds were against them but what other choice did they have aside from facing imminent death here? Any who wanted to survive, had to at least have faith.

Both sadness and fear radiated in a certain German Shepherd. Chase sat on the ground and fiddled with a stray blade of grass, studying the blade's outer features as he let his thoughts of his home run wild. He had a lot of great memories throughout Adventure Bay and the places beyond, countless missions and rescues, but they ended today, even his past trauma with Adventure City he seemed to appreciate now. Now he can only hope if this journey is successful, he can create new memories on the new world.

What really troubled him was the fact that not everyone could make it to the Haven, a lot of them will be left behind. He would happily give his life away to make sure everyone could go to their new home, even all the animals. The thought of them witnessing their own doom right before their eyes chilled him to his core while feeding his hopelessness. There were a lot of those starships across the planet ready to take off, just not enough for everyone. Mass panicking and riots were happening all over the world now, though Adventure Bay was spared of that since they had enough ships for the whole island, Adventure City, and Barkingburg. He was so lost that he failed to notice a Dalmatian approach him.

"Hey Chase?"

Chase's head shot up at the Dalmatian, his somber brown eyes meeting those hopeful blue's. "Oh, hey Marshall, what's up?"

"Just came over to see how you were doing, you know, how you're handling leaving Earth and all." Marshall answered softly.

Chase grunted out of mental exhaustion. "…I'll make it." He muttered. "You doing that to everyone?"

"Yep, you know mental health is just as important as physical health."

It wasn't surprising to the German Shepherd hearing that. In the past years, Marshall seemed to focus more on medical science as opposed to firefighting even though he still trained in it to make sure he didn't lose that skill.

"And what about you, Marshall?" Chase asked, wondering how his closest friend was dealing with all of this. "How do you feel?"

Marshall looked surprised and immediately answered. "Honestly, I can't wait to leave." He answered earnestly.

"What?" Chase eyed him in confusion. "Why?"

"It'll be a new home filled with new opportunities, new adventures, plenty to explore, and maybe even a chance for me to make new friends." The Dalmatian replied with optimism.

Chase couldn't help but express a small smile for his friend, admired by his unmatched optimism. The German Shepherd could only hope he was right.

"And how are the other's holding up?" Chase asked out of curiosity for the other members.

Marshall hummed as he formed a response. "Zuma and Rubble are taking it the hardest, Skye seems like she's in her own world, and Rocky… well, you know."

The German Shepherd let out a grunt.

Chase couldn't blame Zuma for not wanting to leave as the lab seemed to have a strong natural connection to this planet, especially with the sea. Skye was somewhat of a mystery nowadays, she kept to herself most of the time and only really talked unless she had to. Chase thought the two were the closest at one point and even believed they could be mates, but in the past years she just shut herself off from him further than the others. She wasn't the smallest of the core members anymore since she hit a growth spurt not long after the incident with Victoria, most likely her Poodle half fueling it and now putting Rubble as the smallest. He just couldn't wrap his mind around her behavior and just summed it up to being 'female' problems, she was the only girl in the core PAW Patrol after all.

Rocky became more nihilistic as he got older, now to the point of it getting on everyone's nerves. Rocky was a smart pup with machines and recycling. Maybe it was the fact that the world didn't appear to share his views, leading Rocky to believe that society's mindless consumerism and rejection for recycling would follow them to Haven. Chase sadly shook his head remembering a recent episode where the mix pleaded to stay back on Earth and die, only to be talked out of it by Marshall and Ryder.

"What about Everest and Tracker?" Chase broke the brief silence. "You get up with them?"

"Tracker seems okay, but Everest won't even answer me." Marshall answered, ending in a slightly dejected tone.

Chase wasn't shocked at that, though he was surprised that Marshall even made an attempt to check up on her at all. The two had a nasty falling out a couple of years ago that almost broke the Dally, which in turn did anger Chase so Ryder had to cut ties with her for some time. They did 'mostly' get over it since they needed to cooperate for rescues, but their friendship was finished.

"I can imagine her taking it pretty hard considering the penguins and the other animals will have to stay behind." Chase suggested.

"Yeah, you're probably right." Marshall agreed. "Wish I had time to… I dunno, say something to her if she'd let me."

"You sure that's a good idea." Chase eyed him with a questionable look.

"Probably not." Marshall answered simply.

Much like Zuma, Everest cherished Mother Nature in her own way. It devastated the husky to her core that the only animals allowed were pets and domestic animals that sustained the population. The wildlife she adored and kept safe would soon perish with this world.

"She's still eating away at you, isn't she?" Chase asked out of the blue, sorry that his friend still had feelings for her.

"Unfortunately." Marshall muttered.

"Yeah well," Chase tried to think of any quick advice. "Like what I tell myself about Skye, fuck her."

"Something is eating at you too Chase, isn't it?" Marshall asked, seemingly ignoring his advice.

"You can always tell can't you?"

Marshall smirked. "When you groaned 'I'll make it', it kind of made it obvious."

Chase saw no use in hiding it so he spilt what was troubling him.

"I just… wish I could really do something about the people that are going to be left behind, you know? Must be fucked up what they're feeling right now."

Marshall looked down to his paws, and shared the police dog's frown. "Oh, I almost forgot about them." He murmured dolefully.

A brief silence rose between them again before Marshall broke it.

"All I can say is what I have to tell myself every now and then, you can't save them all." Marshall stated.

"You sure as hell can't." Chase Agreed solemnly.

The advice didn't really help Chase, but he understood where the Dalmatian was coming from. Apart from firefighting, Marshall was also the PAW Patrol's medic and sadly had the most people and animals die under his care, whether they had a complex and severe injury or he just wasn't fast enough.

"If it's anything, I heard there were some governments planning to dig massive bunkers underground. You know? Try to survive the impact in their own way." Marshall added with curiosity.

"That shit won't save them." The police dog grunted.

"Well their odds aren't great… but neither are ours." Marshall reminded.

Chase could only reply with a weary sigh, the Dally's response bringing the anxiety of the journey back into the German Shepherd.

"Guys." Came Ryder's firm voice over both their dog tags. "It's time."

It was truly astonishing, all wars or petty conflicts that were happening around the globe came to an end almost over night after the revelation.

Countries that wanted to nuke each other into oblivion suddenly found themselves cooperating. Western nations would give their most advanced technology to the east in exchange for their massive amount of rare resources. It started with the improvement of robotics and Artificial Intelligence that were now capable of autonomously operating vehicles to entire production plants. That was mostly the first year, the second year saw the first fusion reactor built with others being built after it, providing the production plants with enormous amounts of power. The later part of the year saw improvements in space technology like Artificial Gravity, Cryogenics, and faster propulsion.

The end of the third year saw the first official star ship, the 'Lakshmi' it was called. Designed jointly by NASA and ISRO since the day after the asteroid was discovered, this kilometer long vessel used its newly designed thrust engines to get past the atmosphere. It was a success to both organization's surprise and gave the HCE the specs so they can start placing ship building sights all over the world.

They built as many ships as they could in the remaining years from large colonial ships with thousands of Cryo pods packed in like sardines, to smaller freight ships that can carry materials and act as transport shuttles. Ultimately, they could only build so many before time ran out and there weren't going to be enough to get everyone off this doomed rock. Desperate, and in order to quell the panic, some of the private sector put money into massive underground bunkers that were interconnected by vast tunnels where the ones that were left behind could take shelter from the asteroid. The goal of them would be to try to start a sustainable subterranean civilization that cultivated plants grown from artificial light and to dig to mine and expand when the time comes. Some theorize that's how a colony on Mars would operate.

Today, the ships would pass through a Loop gate, A portal–operating space station that cut a hole into time itself which allowed a shorter route to their destination by passing through a pocket dimension. The journey would take only twenty years as opposed to millions of years since it was revealed that time moved faster in this universe. How the head of the Expedition knew that was beyond Chase since he definitely wasn't an expert in Theoretical Physics or Quantum Mechanics. He assumed they must have had a small portal on Earth somewhere and sent a drone through it or something.

It was scary though, since this type of technology was kept completely under wraps. Some people opt to stay behind because of this, taking their chances with the bunkers before crossing into some pocket universe while not fully understanding what was in it and what laws it went by. Though most people in the Expedition have a lot of faith in the Director by now.

And that's what now ate at Chase as he sat in place before the Navigator with the rest of the PAW Patrol. Blindly following some man that could lead them off a cliff, a cliff to an abyss of potential horrors.

The shadow of the Navigator covered them completely. It was an impressive ship compared to the rest of the HCE fleet not because of the ship's size, but because of the special ship's mobility in both Earth's atmosphere and the vacuum of space. It was designed specifically for the PAW Patrol and their future missions with no other ship being built like it.

Her thrusters were aimed down, ready for departure. The Lookout and the hedge that surrounded it sat before their vision with their backs turned to the ship. Ryder stood before them, awaiting a response from his tablet. Now 16, he stood just shy of six feet and was noticeably more fit, although a couple of scars were present on his face from the latest missions and his hard stare made him appear more older than he was.

"Everything okay on Your end, Liberty?" He asked as the older Dachshund herself appeared on his screen. She didn't really grow that much which isn't a surprise given her breed, but her years of training the junior patrollers into the PAW Patrol has matured her emotional.

"All good, Ryder." She held her paw up shakily, her spacesuit engulfing her. "Me and the rest of the PAW Patrol are getting everyone in the pods before we take off so there won't be crowds getting tossed around, this sucks something else, Ryder!"

"I bet, but this is what you've trained for." Ryder tried to encourage her. "We'll be not far behind you, keep it up and stay safe." Ryder bid farewell before they both ended the call, he looked up from his tablet to see an approaching dog.

Zuma came lagging up to his spot, collapsing in a fit of teary chokes. His paw closed in, grabbing grass and dirt.

Ryder immediately moved over to him, his unconditional love steering him as he crouched on the lab's level and comforted him.

"I really don't want to go man," Zuma whined. "I hate this shit!"

"I know you do, we all hate it, Zuma."

The other dogs watched on with pity, with Marshall breaking formation to provide additional support to the chocolate lab.

They were all waiting on Rubble now who disappeared somewhere around the Lookout to 'use the bathroom' as he put it, but it's been about ten minutes now.

Chase scanned the Lookout and the grounds around for any sign of the bulldog. He caught a glimpse of Skye looking at him, making the mistake of returning her stare. He couldn't explain it but there was just something about her blank and careless look that agitated the hell out of him.

He looked away, before he shot her a glare that said 'the hell is your issue?!'.

Luckily, a creaking sound diverted his attention to the back of the spacecraft to the rear cargo door.

Chase moved from his spot and followed the sound to a rather comical sight.

Rubble had opened the cargo doors in order to store some extra last minute gear. He dropped his over packed bag upon noticing the German Shepherd walking up to him, all of it's contents spilling out in a mix of tools and treats. Rubble stared back with guilty smile.

"Please don't tell Ryder."

Chase scowled at the bulldog. "Are you trying to get us all killed?"

"It's just this stuff, and we still have room in there!" Rubble pleaded as he motioned to the cargo hold.

Chase shook his head. "Once all of us board, we'll be close to the maximum safe launch weight."

"C,mon, just this little b…" Rubble stopped himself upon noticing Ryder standing next to Chase with his arms crossed.

Normally they would laugh something like this off, but not in these circumstances where the bulldog likely could have just killed them if Chase didn't catch him.

"I'm glad I decided to double check the cargo hold." Ryder said with a hint of coldness.

His tone pierced the bulldog's heart, Rubble stared down in defeat. "Sorry about that, Ryder."

He was surprised when the human walked up and gave him a pack on the back.

"Chase is right, you have to leave this stuff behind."

Rubble whined. "I just… just don't want to be underprepared when we get to Haven."

"I understand, but we're already full with our basic gear and treats." Ryder explained. "I'll get some new ones made as soon as we get settled, alright?"

Rubble nodded slowly in defeat. "Yes sir."

All of the dogs were accounted for now and had boarded the ship, each having a seat in the cockpit.

They put on their HCE spacesuits for the journey and buckled in for the launch. Ryder sat up front in the copilot's seat while Robo Dog sat next to him, he'll be piloting the ship while the others are in their Cryo pods. Each ship had it's own AI that technically could pilot the them fully, however most of them would just monitor the ship and crew's status while in the void and wake them in case of an emergency. Robo Dog was different obviously since he actually had a physical body with hours of time logged for operating the various vehicles of the PAW Patrol.

"Time to get this baby in space Robo Dog, The Adventure One and Her Majesty's Voyage are already in orbit." Ryder ordered.

"ARF ARF!" Came Robo Dog's response before he initiated the launch.

A low hum could be heard outside that gradually grew where it could be heard through the ship, the thrust engines were on.

It wasn't long before the Navigator began to lift off the ground. Robo Dog flew forward, using the ship's wings to maneuver upwards before activating the main engines, keeping track of how much fuel they had.

"This is going to be bumpy everyone, brace yourselves and just remember the orientation." Ryder warned.

Robo Dog increased power to the main engine before diverting power fully and cutting off the thrusters entirely. The ship was now at full speed on its way out of the atmosphere, creating intense

"What… the hell… why are we… shaking so much!?" Chase yelled out, his voice trembling from the intense rocking of the ship.

"The Navigator's externals… are causing more resistance… we should be out of it… in about five minutes… and just a straight ride to the… Loop Gate!" Ryder explained.

"RUFF!" Robo Dog Confirmed.

Rocky managed to roll his eyes through the shaking. "Where will probably go into hell… or something."

"That's not funny, Rocky!" Zuma barked.

"Was I laughing?"

"ROCKY." Ryder sternly spoke the name of the mix in hopes that he'll stop with the negativity.

Rubble looked as if he was getting sick and just closed his eyes while Marshall held on to his seat tightly in fear.

Chase relaxed, this was it. No more Earth.

"Goodbye cruel world."

The police dog's ears pricked at the sound of the feminine voice, which he barely registered. Was that Skye?

She sat behind him but he refused to make eye contact and find out, even though it did pull at his heartstrings a little.

The air outside gradually grew from a deep blue to a star filled black, signaling they were officially out of Earth's realm. Only the unknown sat ahead of them.
