Chapter 2

Harry felt the nerves on his palm tickle as he and Daphne fed chopped carrots to their pet bunnies. Their small, padded forepaws and feather-like whiskers tickled his hand as they nibbled with their food in the warm late afternoon. An orange hue had settled on the property, giving Daphne's honey blond hair a fiery peach-like aura.

The new born bunnies resting in a beret on Daphne's lap clicked their teeth, and Daphne broke the carrots into even smaller pieces and began feeding them. She turned to look at him and smiled as she sat closer to him, leaning against his shoulder.

"What?" Harry asked.

"Nothing," she replied meekly, "It's just…." she trailed off.

"I know," Harry grinned knowingly at her as he tapped her nose. "It's not that I don't like your compliments," he admitted. "But you should try and save some for later."

Daphne shook her head as she giggled. "There is so much I can do to control my urge." She remarked. "Best birthday ever."

Harry smiled at her and looked down at the bunnies to hide the blush that was erupting from his neck. He ran his hand through the soft fur of the bunnies that were resting in the shade that his body was providing for them.

"Why thank you, Miss Greengrass." He replied, leaning in to place a soft kiss on her cheekbones. "That's the least I can do for you, my lady." Harry replied, pretending to swoon.

"Try flattering me again, and you'll be sleeping on the couch tonight." Daphne smirked at him.

"I can always go back to my place." He said sheepishly.

"Well, that's only an option till…." She peered down to look at the bracelet that was tied to her ankle. "My term ends," she finished. "In light of lady magic, you did tie your soul to me….for an eternity."

"So did you, it's a two way thing, you know." He said, scratching the back of his neck.

"Mhm?" She gently placed the beret on the ground and cuddled up to Harry. The kits climbed out of the beret and leaned against Daphne's knees.

"So needy." Harry grimaced, causing Daphne to burst into a fit of soft chuckles before they stopped abruptly. Harry saw Daphne looking at something behind him and followed her gaze as they met a brown owl flying towards them, holding a letter in its beak. It was an owl from the ministry, Harry had received many of them while at Daphne's place, but never at this hour.

And here I was thinking that we would have a quiet day. Harry scowled, grabbing the letter from the owl's beak.

Harry, Report to my office at the earliest.

Alice Longbottom

"Who is it?" Daphne asked, and Harry lifted his gaze and met Daphne's eyes.

"Mrs.Longbottom," Harry said sadly, "Must be something urgent, it's not everyday that she calls me to her office," Harry added, placing another kiss on her cheek. "Duty calls, I'm afraid." He said standing up on his feet.

"Stay safe." Daphne said sadly, standing up as well and gently pressing her lips against his in a quick peck. Harry wrapped his hands around her and pulled her into a warm embrace before pulling back, turning his heel, and leaving the property.

That same day at midnight.

Harry knocked on the door of the cottage, and Daphne opened the door almost immediately, pulling him into a bone crushing hug.

"Oww." Harry winced as her embrace tightened the bruises on his body.

"What happened to you?" Daphne asked, letting go of him as she spotted the bruises on his body. "I was so scared, Harry; they know-they know about us." She said it hastily, her voice filled with worry. She opened her mouth to say something, but Harry pressed his lips against hers to calm her down.

"Shhh." He said, waving his wand around her ankle, and the iron bracelet tied to her since last November fell down.

"Harry, what are you doing?" Daphne asked as she kneeled down on the floor and grabbed the bracelet in an attempt to put it back on.

"Here," Harry said, giving Daphne her wand back, and she stared at it and back at him. "That's right, all charges have been dropped, and you are no longer under house arrest and—" He put his hand in his pocket, removed the signet ring of the lady of House Greengrass, and placed it in her palm.

"How?" Daphne asked as tears began forming in her eyes. "You know what? Forget it." She said, leaving his side to go into another room. When she came back, there was a tray filled with healing supplies in her hand.

"What happened?" Daphne asked as she began tending to his wounds as he settled on the couch.

"Let's say that everyone in wizarding Britain will learn about your title as the Lady of House Potter by tomorrow morning." Harry explained, handing Daphne an article of the Daily Prophet titled.

Lord Hadrian Potter Marries Heiress Daphne Greengrass

Cygnus Greengrass sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban

House Malfoys illicit affairs.

Thank you all for reading this Drabble series so far. I was actually planning to insert a lot of other things in this one, but then the story would have become a one shot, so I didn't.

Here's the link to the Haphne server.

The next and last part of the Solitary Evenings series will have Harry and Daphne having dinner with Harry's friends and family.
