Chapter 7 : Family heirloom
Things were going smooth for the planning of the upcoming wedding in just a couple of weeks and on this particular day Mirabel was with the dead side of her family more specifically her in laws, they were overwhelming sometimes but they adored Mirabel a little bit more so then her family and she was happy to call them family even before they were engaged; they knew from the moment she stepped into their lives and since then they have called her Mija in every conversation possible and she loved it .
"Is it almost done Mija?" Rosita asked
"Si almost just give me one second ". Mirabel said threading a needle though the skirt
"There perfect ". Mirabel holds up the skirt to check for any tears
"Mira, Carina That took you 5 minutes how did you do that so fast?" Victoria asked
"Steady hand is all". She smiled
I'll say". Oscar starts
"Even we can't sew soles of shoes that quick". Julio added
"I think that's a record ". Felipe sighed
"You think?" Mirabel asked
"Si". Coco answers
"I'm glad you think so because it's going to be underneath my wedding dress, that way when I dance it won't get caught ". Mirabel replies
"How does that work?" Julio asked
"Well when I unclip the skirt the shorter version of the dress comes down like this". She demonstrates unclicking the fabric and the shorter version comes down.
"Wow Mija even I didn't have that for my wedding dress". Imelda smiled
"Really?" She coaxed
"Si, back then I didn't sew a lot so being taught by hand was tricky as I had to be retaught and I wanted something like that on my wedding dress, but I got so tired of it I just gave up". Imelda explains
"Well I find that very hard to believe ". Mirabel chuckled
"Well it's true Mija it's just some of us need some practice that's all no one is good at everything ". Imelda laughs
"Well tell that my sister for 10 years she had this Image where she had to be perfect all the time especially in front of my Abuela since she believed she had to". Mirabel Remembers
"I see". She nodded
"When things changed it was hard for her to break the habit ". Mirabel adds
"It was the same way with me inviting music back into the house again especially when it came to Héctor, I guess old habits die hard don't they Mira?" Imelda chuckled
"Si, I mean it took me ages to open myself up Again to my family after years of being lonely really takes a toll and builds up a wall especially when you're non-gifted and not special like your family ". Mirabel replies
"Ay Mija I am so sorry no family should treat you like that". Imelda apologises
"Si, Estas bien". She nodded
"No it's not they don't see how special you truly are and they are not just telling you that You're special because you know we don't ". Imelda sighed
"I know Mamá Imelda ". Mirabel replies
"Because you are our treasure and we love you Mi vida". Imelda smirked as she prepped kisses all to her face
"Ay Okay Okay you win". Mirabel laughed
"Never not until you say it". Imelda still had a grip on her
"I'm a part of this family and I am a treasure and I am loved and I know no gift makes me special I make me special and loved with my family beside me". She smiled
"That's more like it". Imelda smirked
Mirabel smiled as she walked away and Imelda knew she did the right thing by making her granddaughter smile.
From the moment Imelda and Mirabel met they have been very close bonding over embroidery, sewing, books and a lot more things but Mirabel felt more comfortable to open up with Imelda as she was sweet and caring and not judging her for anything she did. It didn't matter about her gift all Imelda cared about was her; She always treated her like a daughter and she loved it more so than anything else she was like a second grandmother/ mother to her and she wouldn't have any other way, and when Miguel & Mirabel had gotten engaged it just brung them more closer together.
Just then there was a knock at the door, Héctor went and got the door and smiled when a delivery was made he signed for the package and thanked the delivery person and then shut the door.
"What was that about cuanado?" Felipe asked
"Something for Mira I believe ". Héctor answers
Mirabel turned her head when she saw what it was and gasped she nearly cried, Imelda smiled but was also very confused.
"What is it Sonbrina?" Victoria asked
"It's My abuela Daphne's wedding veil she got married in church and it had all of her favourite flowers she said it was the most precious thing she owned, apart from her ring and when I was a little girl she promised me she'd give it to me if I got married". Mirabel explains
She gently took and unraveled with care to see Her Abuelas name in it and along the edge were flowers and beautiful butterflies and she gasped at it.
"Estas Muy Hermosa ". Rosita gasped
"That Daphne's wedding veil?" Imelda coaxed
"Si". Mirabel nodded
"Wow it's very pretty ". Coco said
"Abuela also gave me her necklace ". Mirabel replies
"Alma?" Felipe asked
Mirabel nodded and smiled.
"Wow you sure like to keep tradition don't you?" Héctor nodded
"Si it just makes me feel like my family is here on my wedding day ". Mirabel replies
"And there is nothing wrong with that". Héctor hugs his granddaughter
Imelda then remembered something and quickly went to her room to get it, Héctor knew what she was doing and smiled.
"Is everything okay?" Julio asked
"Si, Mijo she just remembered something ". Héctor smiled
When Imelda came back she was holding a hair pin with a Dimond flower on it it sparkled it the sun as she held it.
"Mija I want you to have this, it was mine when I got married and I just thought it would give good luck for your big day and as part of our family I figured you should have it." Imelda smiled as she handed the pin to her
Mirabel shook her head and gasped.
"I can't take this it's too precious to you, Besides don't you need it". Mirabel shook her head
"Mija I insist you take it, you being part of our family is more than I could ask for Mi Amor and that's all I ask to let you know how much we love you". Imelda asked
Mirabel felt like the world was given to her and the appreciation given made her feel like she was loved from her second family.
"Are you sure?" She asked
"Si Mija absolutely ". Imelda smiled
Then Mirabel hugged Mamá Imelda and was grateful for everything and she hugged back with all her might Héctor even joined in on the hug.
" I guess it's settled then". Coco smiled
"Si, Miguel has figured the wedding date out and I couldn't be happier." Mirabel smiled
"When is it?" They asked
"I'll wait until Miguel comes.." she stopped
As if he was summoned he entered the house so happy to see his family and fiancée and smiled at them and they smiled back and they said their hellos.
"Did you tell them yet Diosa?" Miguel asked
"No I was just about to but I wanted to wait for you". Mirabel chuckled
"Okay now that he's here can you please tell us I'm dying to know ( No pun intended)". Oscar asked
Miguel looked at Mirabel smiled as they held hands.
"November 1st". Miguel stated
"That's Dia de Los Muertos Wait…" Felipe finished
The family looked at the both of them with surprise, happiness and shock all in one as Miguel smiled as the realisation hit all in one.
"You're having it On Dia de Los Muertos!!" Rosita screamed
"Si, we want to have all family there and we thought it would just feel right". Mirabel replies
"Oh Mijos this is so exciting ". Coco cried
They all hugged the couple and Miguel & Mirabel smiles at the love shown and once the hug was broken, Miguel looked at his family and handed them their invitations showing that the wedding was taking place in Santa Cecilia's main church.
"What do you think?" Miguel asked
"It's perfect ". Héctor smiled
"Si, I can't wait ". Rosita cheered
"Although Mija with your dress won't you forget.." Victoria stopped
"It's okay the girls will help they also left a note". Mirabel smiled
"Meaning?" Héctor asked her to continue
"Meaning Papá Héctor it's in a special place so I don't lose it the note is there so I can remember ". Mirabel replies
"Smart very smart". Victoria said
"Well Mija I think you need to try on the pin just to see how it looks". Mamá Imelda asked
"Si". She smiled
Mirabel then took the pin and carefully pinned it on her curls as it shone in the light.
"How does it look?" Mirabel spun around
"Just beautiful Mija ". Imelda cried
Miguel smiled as he looked at the pin and how it fit her so much like Mamá Imelda when she got married.
"Stunning Mi Diosa ". Miguel comments
"You are Loco Sometimes you know that?" Mirabel coaxed
"Si, but only for you". Miguel whispered to his future wife
"Ay". She laughed
Happiness was were it has been and were it will take them for the rest of their lives and they wouldn't have it any other way.
