Ruby lifted her head off the table as the bell rang signaling the end of the class period, Ruby got up and started to pack her bag as she slung it over her shoulder she headed to her locker to prepare for combat class.
In the hallway Ruby listened to the kids talking as she tried to remember the code for her locker to get her baby Crescent Rose, finally getting the right number's she grabbed her baby and headed to the arena,
When she got there, Ruby noticed that there was someone standing next to the teacher,
It was Uncle Qrow,
'Huh guess he's back from his mission, I wonder what he's doing here?'
She was about to sit down when the teacher called to her
"Ah Ms Rose, you're here can you come down?" They said
Ruby looked down toward, Iron Steal, the Combat Instructor of Signal.
Ruby looked at the other students who were now talking amongst themselves, it was Very rare that Ruby was called to fight, and many times the bouts had to be canceled because her opponent would simply fold after hearing that they were going up against Ms Rose.
Ruby picked up her stuff and walked onto the stage
"What's up Professor?" Ruby asked tensed
"There's nothing to be afraid of Ms. Rose, it's just that your being excused from class, Professor Brenwen will be your teacher for today." They said
'Oh good I'll actually get to fight.' Ruby thought as she looked around to see Uncle Qrow standing beside the exit door.
Ruby nodded and headed towards Uncle Qrow, she didn't surge forward, didn't act like a child, not in front of everyone, but she was excited to spar with her uncle today.
Qrow smiled as Ruby approached "Hey kiddo, you ready?" He asked
Ruby nodded as they both left.
Outside Ruby took off her backpack and set it down while Qrow was setting up the arena they would be fighting in.
"So how are your classes Squirt?" He asked
Ruby cycled a round into her baby and checked the magazine well.

Qrow nodded "You learn anything?" He asked

Ruby sighed "I know Uncle, it's just…"
"Just what?"
"I know how you said it's better if I don't stand out but classes are so boring, I know all of this stuff from what you taught me, I just wished we could go back to hunting in the woods together, hunting Grimm,"
Qrow shrugged "You know how Oz is. Believe me there is nothing I'd rather have us do than go out and hunt like the old days, but what can you do? Tai is adamant that you should finish all of your schooling,"
Ruby scoffed "Yeah and Dad's not even able to beat me in combat." She huffed
"Your father is a good man, and he's trying his best. Now come on," he said stepping into the arena.
Ruby followed.
"We'll begin with a some light sparing to warm us up, then we'll switch to Hand to Hand combat, before we finish with a full on spar how's that sound?" Qrow said
Ruby nodded "are you staying at the house with us?" She asked
Qrow shrugged "don't see why not Oz didn't ask for me to come in so I should be fine."
Ruby nodded as Qrow unhooked Harbringer from
His back and opened it up Ruby opening Crescent rose to follow suit.
The two fighters squared off and then at the blink of an eye they charged at each other, clashing in the middle of the area making a large cloud of dust around them. Qrow swung his sword at Ruby who jumped over the blade and went to cleave downward on Qrow.
The scythe master parried the strike and sent a punch to Ruby's midsection. Sending her flying.
Ruby landed on the ground on her feet before she activated her semblance and charged at Qrow.
Qrow pointed his sword at Ruby and began shooting at her.
However all the shots missed as she weaved through the bullets, Qrow switched his weapon into scythe mode and swung at Ruby again.

Lavender Ross sighed as she watched two of her classmates fight in the arena, both of them moving sluggish and full of openings.
She missed Ruby. Normally they would have sit together and chatted throughout the fights. Sometimes making bets, other times just ranting about other classes, but instead today her Uncle had to come back and take her for a private lesson.
It's not like she's angry at the extra classes, Ruby was bar none a total prodigy when it came to fighting in the entire class. She had the best control of her semblance by far, and she had more skills than most teachers.
If the stories of her and her Uncle hunting down Grimm on patch were anything to go off of.
Honestly most of these students haven't unlocked there aura on their own much less fight Grimm. Yet Ruby Rose was outpacing everyone.

The buzzer sounded signaling the end of the fight.
"Winner, Vesper Alba." The teacher announced, "now can anyone tell me how he won this match? Ms Ross?"

"Yang has been teaching you well." Qrow said
"As best as she can after all she has to get ready for her test for beacon." Ruby said
"And how do you feel about that?" Qrow asked stepping away to grab Halbringer again for the final part of the training,
"I'm going to miss her. But I'm proud. She's really good." Ruby said
Qrow nodded "yeah. But hey, two years and you'll join her." He said
Ruby nodded as they charged each other again.

Ruby walked down the road with Lavender by her side as talked about class.
Well Lavender was, Ruby however was just thinking about how Yang was going away in a few weeks.

And Ruby…noticed he was standing there talking to his friends.
Vermeil was Ruby's crush, but with her social awkwardness she never had a chance to ask him out.

"Hey Ruby." A voice said behind her making Ruby jump and spun around.

As a combat school unlike beacon, the students weren't given uniforms but were expected to wear their combat equipment at all times sans there weapons so long as the outfit wasn't perceived as skimpy enough to get in bounds of trouble with the school in which case they would ask you to consider a different outfit or give you a uniform from there, but that was highly irregular,
Ruby looked Vermeil up and down. He had a classic pair of black jeans, a blazer with no tie and tea shirt underneath.

Vermeil looked up "think like what?" He asked

"Nope actually it's the exact opposite, aside from homework which if we have trouble we have a teacher to help us. They actually give us more work. I know that Yang spar's with dad regularly like every weekend, and Uncle Qrow- I mean Professor Brenwen, trains me just as hard when he has time.
"Like yesterday?" Vermeil asked

"I was in the class when you were excused, didn't understand why, it's not like you ever fight."

"There's not a rumor that I got into the school by nepotism, is there?" Ruby asked 'don't wanna deal with that.'
Vermeil shrugged "Not sure, but I mean I'm only a first year student so I don't know all the rumor mills."
'Ah that makes sense, all the kids in my grade are scared of me, and im pretty sure they told the older kids because they avoid me too, I wonder why they didn't talk to the first years?'
"It's ok. Tell me about it if anything comes up." She said
"Will do, but um, can you tell me why make everyone think that you're weak?"

"Well…I might not know all the rumors but I know that most of the kids avoid talking to you, several say they are scared of Yang, which is understandable, but a few I've noticed physically cower when they spot you as if trying to suppress the urge to run and scream."

Ruby sighed. "Ok I'm gonna be honest with you this is the exact reason why I'm not allowed to fight students in class." She said

"What happened?"
"You remember the entry test you had to take in order join?" Ruby asked
"Yeah, I got 2 teachers In before my Aura was in the red how about you?"
Ruby sighed "no one stopped me." She said bluntly.
"Wait you mean."
"Every. single. Teacher. Aside from Qrow, my father, and the headmaster. Weren't able to beat me." Ruby clarified.
"And the entire class saw everything." Ruby said
"H-how?" Vermeil asked
"I-um I lost control of my semblance, I just blitzed everyone. I was just so excited about being here and proving myself I just went. And um apparently it was enough," Ruby said
"Holy crap." Vermeil said
"Yeah, so that's the reason I'm not exactly the most social able. My only friends I have are, Lavender, and Onix."
"We'll hey there's me too." Vermeil said
Ruby looked over at him stunned "Y-you mean that?" She asked
"Oh course." He said
"But…why would you waste your time with a dumb girl like me when you have hundreds of others?" She asked
"I'm not that popular." Vermeil rolled his eyes.
'Yeah but girls are throwing themselves at your feet.' Ruby thought to herself as they came upon the school.
"Look I'll see if anyone else would like to be your friend too. I gotta go." He said leaving Ruby alone.
Ruby sighed as she looked around.
A few moments later she felt arms grapple her from behind

Ruby turned around and laughed "Geoff me!" She playfully shoved Lavender away.
"So did my eyes deceive me or was that Ruby Rose talking to Vermeil Grant back there?"
Ruby rolled her eyes. "No your eyes didn't deceive you, of course Yang was the reason for that, pretending to ditch me so that she could "help dad with something." Ruby said in air qoutes.
"But hey you got to spend time with your crush, are you complaining?" Lavender asked
"Not really seeing as he's willing to be firends." She said
"No way really?!" Lavender yelled
"Woah babe calm down I'm right here what's the fuss?" Onix said walking up to Lavender and pecking her on the cheek.
"Hey there yourself big fellow." Lavender said getting a bit handsy on Onix's chest.
Lavender was a short 5.5" girl with same color hair down to her neck, her combat outfit was excersise pants with a row of white Diamonds on the outside and two red streaks on the inside running up and down the pant legs. Her shirt was a simple crop top which showed off her belly a bit and she had a bandolier on her with pouches to fit gear, over that she wore a leather jacket with tails going down to her knees, with her weapon strapped across her back being a telescopic Boē staff.
Onix looked more like a biker gang member tall and muscular black greasy hair. With Silver chains, black leather open jacket. The only thing missing was the piercings and shades. Also the bike as well. His weapon was a set of brass knuckled which could fold out into duel pistols,
"Our little Rosy here. Managed to finally get the courage to talk to one Mr Vermeil." Lavinder said

Onix just stood there touching his hand to his lips blinking.
"Woah there buddy, are you okay?" Yang asked
"That's the first time she's done that." Onix said staring off into space

"Said 'I love you…' Onix clarified.
Yang blinked 'oh.'

The next week went by before the weekend was upon them, and Ruby, seeing as her uncle wasn't home as he had to run a mission for Ozpin. Decided to pack her gear for a 48 hours grab bag, loaded herself up with enough ammo to fit a small battalion, and survival equipment.
"And where are you going young lady?" Taiyang asked from the door.
Ruby spun around. "Oh I Um. Well you see no where special." She said
"Nowhere special? With snacks and food to feed six teenagers?" Tai asked, giving the look of im not born yesterday.
Ruby froze, she had to give a good lie. Knowing that if her dad knew what she was really doing he'd kill her, but fortunately she just got a perfect opportunity.
"Oh well you see, um, Lavender is holding an end of the year party and I was planning on going there with the sleepover as well." She said
Tai gave her a light glare before his face softened. "Ok. Have fun there and be safe." He said
Ruby cheered as Tai walked away.
That afternoon Ruby left the house and walked down the street out of view from the house while Tai watched her.
Tai sighed anxiously, he really knew what Ruby was doing, how could he not. The first time she done it he nearly had a heart attack, he was thankful that Qrow was there to calm him down otherwise he'd might have done something,
Of course still having Ruby head out alone was still scairy, especially when Qrow had actually finally told him what she had done the second time.
Honestly, a 24 hour combat training course was insane. Something borderline what They would come up with at Beacon.
Yet Ruby seemed to do something similar to that about once a month, something even twice.
She'd get back home Sunday night around 9ish and clunk out. Be an hour late to school the next day but by lunch be back to her normal chipper self.
If it wasn't borderline superhuman Tai would call himself concerned,
Of course he was a father so he was always concerned.
Still if there was one thing he knew was that Ruby could take care of herself the Entrance exam proved that, heck, thinking on it now even though he didn't enter the ring to fight her. He knew if he had she'd have knocked him on his ass.
Both himself and Qrow.
Ruby Rose could fight. The only thing she needed was better hand to hand combat, and more control of her semblance. All of which Qrow was teaching.
Tai sighed as he turned back to making food for himself and now Yang.
Ruby got to the forest and sighed this was the start of the forest that lead to her mothers grave, she would be alone for all this time.
There was a snap behind her as Crescent rose was in her hands
Only to hit the Snow a moment later as she sighed
"Vermeil." Ruby said calming her beating heart.
"Ruby." Her boyfriend said wearing a backpack himself and his combat outfit.
"What are you doing here?" She asked
"I was able to get a bit of information out of Yang about these sessions that you do, from what I've seen from your fights you were too good to not be training frequently, so I had Yang tell me where your training spot was." Vermeil said
Ruby huffed apparently she wasn't as sneaky as she thought she was if Yang knew about this.
"Listen Vermeil I'm not trying to be rude or anything but you really should go back, your right I train a staggering amount, but this isn't one of those occasions." Ruby said 'it's much worse'
"Oh so you're not going to be here for several days alone in the woods with nothing but your Wit and what's on your back?" Vermeil asked
Now Ruby looked shocked
"My house is just a few miles away. I've been hearing noises coming from the woods often enough and I've seen you training here before."
Ruby sighed "ok fine you caught me. But I'm serious about the fact you shouldn't be here. I doubt you have enough equipment in that bag on yours." Ruby said walking into the woods.
"Hey, what do you mean by that love?" Vermeil asked sounding insulted.
"I mean that as pragmatically as possible, that bags too small to hold sleeping equipment, much less food and combat essentials."
"Wait sleeping equipment… Ruby…how long are these sessions?"
"Well it takes 4 hours to reach the site and another hour to set up, After that I usually visit my mothers grave then after that it's a full 24 hour blitz against Grimm. The 6 hours is usually enough time for them to gather with enough numbers to make it a challenge for me. Then after I clean them out I head home and sleep around 9." Ruby said
"Wait, hold on a full day's worth, of nothing but fighting?" Vermeil asked
Ruby nodded
Vermeil sighed "I guess I did kinda underpack then," he said
Ruby smiled "don't worry we can share some things, I have enough in this pack here to last a full week's worth, and we can share the hammock, just be careful where you place your hands." Ruby said
"Wait a hammock too?" Vermeil asked
"I usually take a power nap 30 minutes before the fight, that way I'm all ready to go."
Vermeil nodded
The two made there way deeper into the forest, every once and a while a shadow would dash across there vision making Vermeil jump, but Ruby was unphased.
Ruby sighed after the 5th time.
"Ok I have to ask, is this your first time facing Grimm?"
Vermeil wanted to look brave but Ruby could tell by his eyes he was scared as he nodded
Ruby sighed 'great I'm basically with a civi now this just got a whole lot harder, this could basically qualify as a huntsman mission now.'
"Ok fine stick close to me." Ruby said as she walked deeper into the woods. Vermeil trailed close to her.
"And for brother's sake don't be so scared, I can tell, and if I can you're basically projecting to all the Grimm in the area." Ruby said
Vermeil sighed and took several calming breaths before he continued.
"Good now we're almost there." She said
"Where?" Vermeil asked as they broke past the treeline and found themselves on an empty cliff.
Except for a single headstone with a Rose on it
Thus kindly I scatter.
Ruby froze before the headstone Vermeil walked up to her and held her hand.
Ruby smiled to Vermeil
"Hi mom… it's been a week, so I'm just gonna let you know Yang took the final test for Signal early and passed. Well passed by there standards, I think she's still kicking herself for not getting farther, I'm not sure if I mentioned that last time or not,
Oh yeah this is Vermeil he's my boyfriend!" Ruby said
Vermeil stepped forward before rubbing his neck. "I Um, we'll to be honest I didn't expect that I'd be having the parent-boyfriend conversation so soon." He joked
"Listen I really love your daughter, she's special, and strong. I'm sure you're proud, I know I am." He said
Ruby stepped forward trying to hide her blush as much as possible.
"That's um sweet, mom, I'm sorry but I have to go, I'll be back soon. Love you." Ruby said before grabbing Vermeil's hand and leading him back into the woods.
Eventually they found a good place to set up camp as Ruby got a fire going. Vermeil prepped some food.
"So Ruby." He asked
"Yes?"
"What are your suggestions for taking on Grimm?" He asked
"Don't do anything fancy, Grimm don't care about your fancy moves, they just want to eat you. Another thing I've learned is it's best to go for complete dismemberment, at least that guaranteed to hinder them, anything else and you're at risk to get hit, if you can't do that seeing as you have Daggers, aim for the head. Facial features will stagger them for a moment allowing you to reposition if you don't kill them outright."
Vermeil nodded
"Put that over the fire we can do a bit of drilling so I can see your form before we hit your first Grimm." She said
Vermeil showed Ruby his fighting style taking a few swings shadowboxing,
Ruby nodded but had a few pointers.
"You have good form but that last attack your free hand was off to the side you should keep it up to protect your face incase a Grimm tried to bring you down to death with him." Ruby pointed out.
Vermeil nodded
After food they climbed into the hammock and took a nap. (Well Vermeil went to bed, Ruby had a short nap)
And true to his word Vermeil never once got grabby.

An hour later they were heading out to the clearing where the Grimm were gathering.
They stepped out of the treeline and saw several large packs of Grimm all Beowolf's, a few distant alphas around 5.
The numbers totaled together to be around 100,
"Woah that's…thats a lot of Grimm." Vermeil said
Ruby looked at him her hood up.
"Keep moving, don't stop." She said giving him one last piece of advice.
Vermeil nodded before he smelt the faint trace of rose in the air and noticed Ruby had vanished only to appear before the Grimm hacking away at there numbers,
Vermeil smiled as he activated his weapons and flipped them over as two pistol barrels aligned perpendicular to the knuckles as he began firing.
Ruby was cutting apart Grimm when suddenly the monster to direct left died
She looked behind her and saw Vermeil joining the frey
Ruby smiled as she vanished into a cloud of petals once again. Zooming across the battlefield dragging her scythe behind her a trail of devastation left in her wake.
Vermeil was stunned at the wholesale slaughter of the Grimm. they could barely even fight back.
Fighting beside Ruby has been a humbling experience.
Not only was the class wrong about her skill, but she far overshadowed them, heck he'd consider her to be on par with Pyrrha Nikos,
But still even she wasn't invincible as soon enough Ruby found herself open to an attack from behind something that a sneaky Grimm went to try to exploit
"Ruby!" Vermeil yelled as he tackled her to the ground throwing her out of the way as the Grimm slashed across his back.
Vermeil let out a loud scream as the other Grimm pounced on him.
"No!" Ruby screamed before a bright flash occured,
When the light died down she looked upon 4 stone Beowolf's one of them an alpha, about to slash upon Vermeil,
Vermeil laid motionless on the ground, bleeding profusely.
Ruby looked around and noticed for a brief moment the Grimm stumbled back hesitantly at her. They were scared of her.
It was enough for Ruby to take Vermeil and run.
Ruby didn't stop running until she reached her mothers grave. There she laid down Vermeil's corpse before the headstone and began to cover it with snow. Taking the time to pull the weapons out of his grip pocketing one for herself to remember him by.
Ruby stood before the mound of snow that would preserve her boyfriends body until she could retrieve it.
Right now she had Grimm to kill.
Ruby headed back towards the clearing intent on finishing the job.
While she walked she heard the snarling of Beowolf's as they flashed past her peripheral vision but she ignored them after all they were the small fry she was on a bigger hunt.
Her mistake cost Vermeil his life.
She was done playing around.
Ruby stood up and looked around under her hood making sure nothing would sneak up on her.
Ruby kept walking unfazed as she saw more and more Grimm gather around her at the edge of the road but still they didn't act on their urge to lunge at their open prey, despite giving them the opportunity several times.
'Odd Grimm usually acts on base urges which means that something is actively preventing them from doing so. Another point to that whatever she did terrified the Grimm. Or at least made them less likely to instantly attack me.' Ruby thought
Still she was too deep now and she could tell if she let this group of Grimm go it would wreak havoc amongst the island.
Ruby looked up to the nights sky.
The moon was directed over head
'Fuck, it's gonna be a long night.' Ruby thought as she looked back down the road the Grimm were gone.
Still Ruby kept walking. Ignoring the culmination of Grimm gathering around her.
She exited the Treeline and looked around to see all the Grimm that had remained from her massacre
Only about 25 or so remained. As she looked around to make sure no other Grimm were joining this group to bolster their numbers.
There were none. However the grimm didn't care
The ambush had been sprung
Around her in a simi-circle were a number of 10 Beowolf's
However these were arrogant ones they didn't have Bone plating
'Actively disobeying your commander huh? That's a sentence of treason right there' Ruby though
'Which is death.' Ruby finished
The Grimm unaware of her own monologue in her mind 3 of them charged and lunged at Ruby in the air
However she vanished into the wind riding the breeze in a storm of rose petals making the young hit the ground with a crash.
The Grimm looked around confused as one of the starter ones followed the petal trail and saw the moon.
There Ruby Reformed off above them
'Unfortunately you only have me…' Ruby without using her semblance reached for Crescent Rose on her back opened her baby in Rifle form and fired as she started to decend into the horde
Her Shot was clean straight through the First Grimm as it died before Ruby and the Grimm Hit the ground at the same time.
The Grimm reacted instantly as the other two of the group of three charged to avenge their friend that they knew was already dead.
One got ahead of the other and that spelled out both of their doom.
Ruby waited as she jumped making the first Grimm trip as she shot the Grimm in the head flipped through the Air and rested her gun on her femur which was leveled ahead of her and blasted a third Grimm which took out a huge chunk of its side as she landed she rolled on the ground she was faced with another Grimm in front of her right in the chest which propelled her backward and on two feet again which she used as a time to unsheath Crescent Rose fully.
One Grimm ( a farely stupid one) tried the Alpha pack dominance route as he roared in challenge and came forward single handedly
Ruby flipped her scythe and made a cut at the Grimm past it leveling the blade upon the beasts shoulder
The Grimm looked over nearly grinning at the girl tauntingly 'you missed' it's face read
Ruby tilted her head to the side cutely 'you think so?' As she pulled the trigger on her scythe and bisected the Grimm in half a daunting pose stood before the rest of the Grimm.
As the body faded away the rest of the Grimm charged at Ruby
Ruby deciding to not expend more energy, went to deal with them as small fry and picked them off before they got close.

By the time she cycled a fourth time a Beowolf had gotten close enough to swing at her
However it was too low trying to knock her off her feet as she jumped over it and shot it in the face propelling her back.
Killing the last Grimm.
As she shot into the middle of the massive clearing she dug her scythe into the ground using it as a pivot point she lurched her centrifugal force around the handle landing on the Scythe like a surfboard
Ruby looked out to the clearing to see more Grimm pouring out of the woodworks 'Yang shut up.'
'Round two it is boys.' Ruby thought.
As a Beowolf lunged at Ruby and ducked under and braced both her feet on the backend of Her scythes blade and pulled the trigger killing both one in front of her and sending her and her scythe flying to kick the one that missed back on the ground.
As Ruby landed she began a flurry of barrages and cuts
However she recognized she was both waiting ammo and her semblance even in little bursts like she was. And changed tactics.
She hooked her scythe around behind a Beowolf and fired hitting one with the round as the top half went flying and knocked another Beowolf down.
Two more charged at her which she dispersed without use of her semblance or gun. As she jumped over both of them lunged. As she cut off the Arm before following up with a thin cut to the waist to stagger before another to sever the leg making it fall to the ground. Another one charged and got in Ruby's face as she cycled a round and hooked her blade along the neck of the Grimm before leading it around and landed on top of the head.
She fired, killing it executioner style and being launched into the air. Trying to get a quick view of the battlefield.
However she was cut off from getting an accurate number as 3 Beowolf's lunged to intercept her.
Ruby fired to meet them halfway killing one with the blade the other with a gunshot.
However she had unaccounted for the third which she was only able to level her Scythe up as a slim defense in front of the beast.
The attack landed. sending Ruby back. Angry at herself for getting hit more than anything else.
'Fuck girl, you got cocky.' Ruby hissed at herself as she now scanned the battlefield.
An entire army of Grimm was before her numbering around 50 plus it was enough to give major huntsman trouble,
But to Ruby it was nothing. The size only meant one thing.
Seeing that now was the time to pull out the gear Ruby swapped magazines and noticed with a quick glance she had only 2 shots left in that mag.
'I lost count.' Ruby thought as she dropped the mag on the ground and reached for specially prepared mags.
The mag had a dot in the middle with Arrows pointing to it. This was a set of mags with Specific gravity charge away from the bullet.
There was another one that had it Reversed which pulled her towards the bullet.
using Gravity dust this way was another way to help her mitigate the use of her semblance by accelerating herself to the bullet instead and carrying her weight she could conserve her energy when the big boss did show its face.
Ruby leveled the scythe behind her and Fired letting the Dust do its work. As she rode along for the ride.
As she rode the monument she only had to angle her body left or right in sight notations to cut apart 5, 10 sometimes even 15 Grimm at a time.
Ruby landed feeling gravity take its tole on her more than the Shot that carried her as she herself landed she jumped and fired again in a second knowing that would boost her monumentum as she didn't have enough time to Decelerate.
Ruby moved as she rode the ground using her feet to only keep the momentum going and not drag herself on the ground to slow down as she jumped again
Unfortunately she realized she packed a bit too much dust into that charge as she moved a bit far too fast.
She changed her scythe into war scythe mode and angled herself at a drastic angle to slow down as she cut apart 3 Grimm in a blink and rode past them in a Speeders version of a drive by.
Again she was going too fast as she had her feet hit the ground and brace her legs with her aura to prevent them from crumbling under the G-forces she used her skills and passive amount of speed to clear the way infront of her.
She was fortunate that Grimm were so dumb to stand in basically a straight line as she cut through them without stopping.
As body parts and casings flew in the sky Ruby was in a dance of death without breaking a sweat.
Finally coming to a stop as she transferred the last of her energy into a spin as she cut apart 4 Grimm around her in a second she dropped her scythe down on the ground and fired blowing the Grimm pieces away from her as the possible threat they would fuse and attack her still Imminent.
She landed after a backflip and posed as the casings and body parts fell down showing the entire massacre lasted only around 3 seconds.
'Could be faster.' Ruby quipped to herself as she looked around the now clear clearing
She saw the near empty magazine she left behind and hiked back over to it.
She picked it up and examined it against the Gravity Mag she had in her weapon. And began to walk back.
After the rest of the Grimm were slaughtered Ruby went back to Vermeil's grave and gathered his body up.
She's have to inform his family.
And it was her fault.
Ruby preformed the walk of shame out of the woods to Vermeil's house. Ending on the front steps as she knocked on the door.
A few minutes later it opened and Vermeil's mother stepped out.
"Hello how can I-?" She froze as she saw her boy dead in Ruby's arms.
"I'm sorry." Ruby said holding back her tears.
The two women embraced each other and held themselves in solidarity for the fallen.
When Ruby returned home she went straight to bed there wasn't anything to be done, she wasn't hungry and her baby could wait to be cleaned.
Vermeil had been a bright spot in Ruby's life.
And now because of her he was dead.
'No more.' Ruby vowed. 'No more children will die.'
The next week the lack of Vermeil was a major blow to the school, no one knew exactly what had occurred but there were definitely questions, not even the teachers knew how to answer them.
Ruby was a shell of herself for that week. Before returning to her normal self a week later. Ruby told Onix and Lavender in private about what had occurred to say they were stunned by the death of Vermeil was an understatement.
Ruby however began researching all she could about her eyes. Trying to find anything and everything written about them.
She found a few articles about her mother which showcased how unique her eye color was but nothing about Why.
It was very vexing.
Eventually she found a lead an old book impossiblely old

After a bit more looking she found 5 books with a good possibility of having what she wanted.
Unfortunately no one was selling them.
Heck no one even appeared to have them.
It was as if they didn't exist.
However she had an ISBN number. Which meant she had all she needed to track them down.
If the school library came up with nothing she'd just have to go to a larger one.
She decided against the main branch library in Vale because it was too public, and most likely if it wasn't in the school library it was pulled for numerous reasons.
Instead she decided to go to a little known store Tucksons book trade.
Unfortunately for her he also didn't have it but he did say he might know someone who did.
It was good enough for Ruby as she gave him her scroll contact and headed back home,
By the end of the month she got an answer from Tuckson, a man named Junior who ran a bar/ nightclub on the east side of Vale should be able to get the books she's looking for.
Ruby thanked him and decided to pay him a visit that night.
After packing up all her allowance money she booked a short ferry to vale telling her father that one of her firends was holding a sleepover and she'd be back around 3 tomorrow.
Tai didn't say anything but love.
The nightclub wasn't really that busy for a Friday night perhaps this bar was really that bad she just hoped the service she was looking for wasn't.
She was able to get inside easily honestly they didn't even ask her to lower her hood, Crescent rose being strapped to her back might have had something to do with it.
Honestly Ruby made a beeline to the bar where the man of the hour stood cleaning a glass.
Ruby strode over to him and sat down.
"We don't serve minors here girl." The bartender said
"That's ok Junior I'm not here to drink." Ruby said catching the man immediately off guard.
Ruby flashed some lein. "I'm looking to hire your services."
"What Girl you looking to get try to get into Beacon?" Junior asked looking at the clearly well made huntsman weapon on the girls back. wondering if Ruby wanted to hire her goons to make her look good and get noticed by a teacher for her skill. It wasn't the first time something like this happened heck, just two weeks ago a blond kid asked for some forged transcripts.
Ruby shook her head. "No no nothing like that, see I'm looking for something, something verY VERY hard to find, almost as if some people high up don't want this to be found." She said
Junior sighed greatful a fight wasn't in her interest
"Ok fine let me see the list." He said
Ruby slid the piece of paper over as Junior looked at it before raising an eyebrow at her.
"Fairy tales?" He asked
"One story in particular." She said
Junior scoffed "fairy tales are a dime a dozen girl." He said dismissing her.
"Not this one it's not. Look I've already checked several databases and found no evidence of these stories it's as if they don't exist, but I know they do, and I'm willing to pay." Ruby said laying out 200 lein on the counter.
Junior looked at the money then at the list.
"This isn't enough for the job kid." He said
"Half now. Half when I get the books." She smiled
"One book." Junior said
Ruby grimaced but nodded "deal." She said as she stood up
"Nice talking to you." Ruby said
"Come back in 2 week's and I'll have it." He said
"A month." Ruby argued 'that will give me enough time to get the money from my allowance.' She thought
Junior nodded "very well." He said as they parted ways.
A month later Ruby once again ended up in vale to head over to Junior's
She just stepped out to cross the street when the window infront of the Nightclub was shattered and Junior came flying out.
Followed by her sister Yang.
"Yang? Is that you?" Ruby asked
"Oh hey sis?" Yang said
What are you doing here?" Ruby asked with her hands on her hips.
Yang sighed. "It's a long story."
Yang looked around "I think it's time that we go don't wanna get the cops on us." Yang said as she made her way towards bumblebee.
Ruby stood there for a while longer
"Ruby?"
"You go on ahead Yang. I wanna make sure he's not hurt." Ruby said
Yang shrugged and drove off.
Ruby stood over Junior.
"Ugh-Wah!" He screamed
Ruby just glared at the info broker
"Do you have the book?" She asked
Junior sat up slowly his entire body aching
"Ugh-no…your sister, if I heard that right, burned my place to the ground." He said
Ruby sighed "very well." She said walking away
"Wait, what about?" Junior asked but Ruby was already gone.
Ruby got to her hotel room she paid for the weekend and grit her teeth at the fact that Yang destroyed her lead. She was so close! Now she was back to square one.
Ruby huffed as she sat on the bed and pulled out her scroll it was from junior
J: give me a month Red I'll get you the book and we can make the transaction it will be worth your while.
Ruby huffed
R: fine 1 month, if you don't the deal is off.
Ruby dropped her scroll onto her bed and let out a scream of anger another month with nothing but empty hope.
Fortunately Junior did pull through in a month time. And gave her the heads up.
Which is how she found herself in the Dust till Dawn dust shop. Waiting for the right time to get the book,
When Roman fucking Torchwick walked in.
What was with her and timing? Oh she recognized juniors goons as well. So long as they didn't bother her she'd not do anything-
"Hey I said hands In the air!"
'Fuck.'
She felt a Tap on her shoulder as she looked back to one of the goons while she was reading
The goon pointed to his ears indicating that he wanted her headphones off.
Ruby complied. "Yes?" Trying to sound nice when in reality she was trying very very hard not to be angry.
"I said put your hands in the air now!" The man said
'Nevermind apparently this guy wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.'
"Are you robbing me?" She asked for clarification?
"Yes!" The (dumb) goon said
"Ohhhh!" Ruby nodded 'time for death!'
As she smacked the guy upside the head sending him into another shelf. As another goon ran to her and pointed a gun at her.
She jumped out the window while everyone watched her as she opened Crescent rose spun the scythe around and stabbed it in the ground before clicking off her headphones.
"Okay…" Roman Torchwick said before noticing his backup wasn't doing anything
"Get her." He clarified.
Three goons ran out of the door the first one came at her a second later as she spun on her scythe and kicked him in the face. While she spun in the air landed and fired two shots, sending one goon into the sky like Team Rocket. And the other she stabbed in the groin taking away his options for planned parenthood.
The last goon started opening fire as she ran around at Mach speed before pivoting on a dime and sending him flying as well landing at Romans feet.
"You were worth every cent, truly you were," he said before looking at Ruby.
"Well red i think we can all say it's been an eventful evening." He said as he dropped his cigar,
"And as much as I'd love to stick around, I'm afraid this is where we part ways." He said as he opened the bottom of his cane to reveal a hidden gun as he shot at Ruby.
Ruby bounded over the round with her own shot from her weapon as she landed and saw that Roman had vanished
Looking around she found him climbing a fire escape to another building.
Ruby looked back to see the shop owner standing by the door.
"You ok if I go after him?" Ruby asked
The man nodded giving Ruby an affirmative as Ruby rushed to persue gettibg to the edge of the building and shooting up with the recoil of her baby.
"Hey!" Ruby said
Roman stopped and snarled at her
"Persistent."
Suddenly a bullhead rose from the other side of the building and shined a spotlight on her
'Sense when the fuck was that there?!' Ruby thought internally as Roman climbed up into the aircraft.
Roman turned around and held out the crystal.
"End of the line Red!" He said as he tossed the Crystal down before shooting it blowing it up.
Roman gave an evil laugh only to have it cut off when he noticed they had company.
Ruby had her scythe ready to go to avoid the explosion but it didn't go off instead Glynda Goodwitch was there holding her riding crop out.
Ruby stood stunned, a real huntress here!
Glynda adjusted her glasses before she send a blast of purple light at the bullhead shaking it
Roman tried to remain standing as he made his way to the cockpit.
"We got a huntress!" He said the pilot got up as Roman took the stick.
Glynda seeing the VTOL trying to peel off sent a blast past the ship to make it storm out delaying there escape.
Roman looked around at the storm brewing as Glying flicked her riding crop down and send jagged shards of hail across the hill of the ship shattering the window and nearly impaling Roman had he not dodged.
At this point the other occupant of the ship walked towards the open hatch with a red dress.
Glynda narrowed her eyes as the occupants hands began to glow red before sending a blast at Glynda who blocked it with a simple flick.
The women in the red dress pulled her hand up and send a plume of fire out from the top of the building under Glynda's feet, forcing her to somersault backward to dodge it.
Glynda took the rubble and formed it into a giant spear and threw it at the ship.
The lady in red fired several blasts at the rubble to break it up but it just reformed itself.
However Roman banked the ship allowing it to glance off.
Glynda still maintaining control of the rubbles created tendrils around the bull trying to pin it in place
The lady threw her arms out sending a massive fireball in the sky breaking Glynda concentration on her semblance.
Fortunately Ruby pointed her rifle at the lady, however she's able to block them by just waving her hands
With another wave 5 circles of fire appeared under them forcing Glynda to pull Ruby forward and to safety allowing the crooks to get away.
Ruby sighed as the bullhead flew off.
"Thanks for the sage back there…I'm in trouble aren't I?" Ruby asked
Ruby looked down in an interrogation room alone 'yep.' She thought.
As the women paced infront of her ranting.
"I hope your action's tonight will not be taken lightly young lady. You put yourself and others in great danger." Glynda ranted
"They started it!" Ruby argued
"If it were up to me. I'd send you home, with a pat on the back,"
Ruby looked up hopeful
"And a slap on the wrist!" Glynda snapped cracking her riding crop on the table for effect as Ruby snatched her hand away.
"But there's someone who wants to talk to you." She said as she stepped aside allowing one fucking headmaster Ozpin to step inside holding a cup of coffee
And he was holding cookies!
Oh he was her new favorite person!
"Ruby rose." Ozpin said with a smile before leaning in.
"You…have silver eyes…"
Ruby looked stunned for a second "is that relevant?" She asked
Ozpin gave a disarming smile "Not at the moment." He said
"So where did you learn to do this?" Ozpin asked showing the recent fight in front of the dust shop.
"Signal academy." Ruby said
"They taught you to use one the most dangerous weapons ever designed?
"Well one teacher in particular." Ruby said 'didn't learn anything else from their thoughts.' She thought.
"I see." Ozpin nodded as he slid the plate of cookies over.
Ruby carefully took a cookie and munched on them finding them soft yet full of flavor, it reminded her of her mum's recipe.
Ruby began munching down on the cookies with haste.
"It's just that I've only seen one other individual with that kinda skill before. A dusty old Qrow." Ozpin said whilmsfuly
"That my uncle!" Ruby said
Ozpin looked at her
"That my uncle Qrow. He used to take me hunting every once a while hunting a few packs of Grimm. But after I was old enough I started to attend signal." She said
"So he taught you before you were in school?" Ozpin asked
"Yeah said something about starting early or something like that. And apparently I was good at it because I Um. Well…" Ruby closed her mouth and looked away
'Why do I have the urge to tell him everything about me?!' Ruby thought panicking.
"Well what?" Ozpin asked.
Ruby sighed "on the first day of Signal the entrance exam I Um lost control of my semblance and I happen to beat every teacher say for my dad, uncle Qrow and the headmaster, it's not a proud moment for me. But it was my skill that set me apart…to apart." Ruby sighed
"Truely…" Ozpin said with a modicum of understanding in his voice.
"So I have to ask, why is someone like you in a school designed to train warriors?" Ozpin asked
"Well I want to become a huntress." Ruby said
"You want to stay monsters?" Ozpin asked
"I wanna help people, there's too much cruelty in the world, and I won't stand by and not do anything, I know I'm only one person but even if I'm just doing it I'm happy." Ruby said
'And I won't have to think of failing Vermeil ever again.' She thought.
"Do you know who I am?" Ozpin asked
"Your professor Ozpin. Uncle Qrow talks about you all the time saying you're the youngest headmaster at beacon. One of the best as well." She said
"Hello." Ozpin said
"Nice to meet you."
"You'd like to come to my school?"
"More than anything." Ruby said
Ozpin looked over at Glynda who rolled her eyes.
"Well alright then." He said
Ruby had a look of pure shock on her face 'wait was this real?'
She stood up to cheer only for Ozpin to hold his hand out.
"Hang on now we have a bit more to talk about." He said
"Oh right my eyes." Ruby said
Ozpin noticed Glynda tense but said nothing
"Among other things." He said
"First, are you aware of who you ran into tonight at the dust shop?"
"Roman torchwick one of the most dangerous gangsters in Vale." Ruby said
"Indeed. And do you know how many people face Roman Torchwick in a robbery and live to tell about it?" Ozpin asked
"That I do not." Ruby said
Ozpin leined forward as if sharing a massage secret
"No one…"
Oh.
She had been close to death tonight
"Like it your not your encounter with Roman has put you on the map Ms Rose. They'll probably ask for your interview about the event.
"Please don't!" Ruby pleaded.
Ozpin raised an eyebrow stunned
Ruby looked down trying to calm herself
"Look I Um. I already told you about my instance at Signal academy, that event ostracized me from my peers. I don't, I just want a normal experience at Beacon."
Ozpin looked at her before looking at Glynda who gave a motherly smile apparently that was the right thing to say to get onto Glynda's good side.
"Very well we will not put your name in the report. For all anyone will know. You just missed them by a hair while you went to speak to your firend on the otherside of town about a rare book.
Ruby froze
'Oh crap they knew about that?!'
Ozpin smiled "Yes I know about that." He said as he held out his hand which Glynda gave Ozpin the scroll
And with a few taps it showed a scene on patch of a stoned Beowolf.
"It seems Ms Rose that you know more about your heritage than others your age. Even if your father tried to hide it from you." He said
Ruby looked down guilty.
Ozpin noticed this and grew serious
"What happened?" He asked
Ruby told him. Ozpin and Glynda for there part were respectful during the story. As Ruby told about giving Vermeil to his mother and looking up the books he stopped her.
"I'm sorry that happened to you Ms. Rose," he said as he reached down and pulled out an old leather bound book and set it on the table
Ruby looked at it as she read the cover.
'The legend of the Silver eyed warrior's, and other accompany fairy tales.' By Ozmyana.
"Wait this is?" Ruby asked
"You are right. Most of the books of fairy tales have been pulled from the shelves but not for the reason you think. It's actually for safety… your safety." Ozpin explained
"My safety?" Ruby asked
"And others like you with Silver eyes. Yes. If others were to know of the capability of those with silver eyes, people like Torchwick." Ozpin left the rest of the statement unsaid
Ruby nodded.
"As such I pulled all existence copies of the books off library shelves and I'm notified whenever someone goes looking for them." Ozpin said
"Take that book home with you, you have a month to read it before school starts. I'll see you at Beacon Ms Rose." Ozpin said standing up
"Wait, I have a lot more questions." Ruby said
"I'm sure you do… well discuss them at Beacon." Ozpin said
"Oh and don't worry about your father, he's already been informed.
Ruby watched Ozpin leave as Glynda stepped forward
"Now let's get you home Ms Rose."
A month later and she was on the Airbus heading to beacon with Yang squeezing the life out of her with her infamous bear hugs.
