CHAPTER 2: No more bunker.
Ben point of view:
"Dad! Come here!" I hear Zoey shouting downstairs.
Now what? No more ghosts, please!
I rub my eyes before opening them, they are swollen because of how much I slept. I look at my watch, it´s almost 4pm, I slept the whole day. That´s not a surprise, last night was the worst night of my life. It was like reliving Savannah´s disappearance, feeling the fear of losing someone you love all over again, but this time, it wasn´t Savannah, but Sarah. No one called me from the hospital today, that´s good, it means Sarah is stable.
"Dad! Come here now!" Zoey insists, she doesn´t sound scared, though. "Griffin! Where are you?!"
I finally get out of bed and run downstairs. The front door is open. Once outside I see an ambulance getting away and the twins hugging Sarah. She´s back! I wrap my arms around her tightly and kiss her. God, I´m so glad she´s ok.
"How are you feeling?"
"Way better than yesterday!" she replies. "Doctors say I´m fine, no need to worry."
"I´m so happy to hear that!" I smile.
"And how are you?" she asks. "What about the ghost?"
"He´s gone!" Zoey growls. "We beat him!"
"You did?!" Sarah´s eyes widen. "Well, thank you." She hugs the twins again. "I´m so proud of you, but don´t put yourself in danger again, ever."
"Exactly, you all put yourself in danger last night…" I add, looking around in search of Griff, who´s been going to that unstable and dangerous bunker, besides I told him not to. "Where´s Griffin?"
"With Harper." Wyatt says.
"He´s in that bunker, isn´t he?" my threatening look is useless, because both of them deny it.
"No, he´s in the woods." Zoey replies.
"At least that´s what he said." Wyatt adds.
"That means…" I take my phone out of my pocket. "If I call him right now, he´ll answer?
"Yes." They both affirm.
"If his phone has no reception I´ll know he´s in the bunker…"
"He´s not in the bunker." Zoey sounds confident.
"Call him." Sarah interrupts. "Besides the ghosts, knowing he´s been wandering in that bunker freaks me out."
For my surprise, Griffin´s phone has reception.
"Hello?" he answers.
"Hi, Griff, where are you?"
"I´m in the woods with Harper, why?"
"Ok, come back home now, please."
"Ok, I´m coming."
Sarah, the twins and I get inside. The living room´s still a mess, the rug, the couch and coffee table are upside down at a corner, as a result of the ghost pushing them all across the room. There is broken glass on the floor, from the flowerpot that old lady used for making the ghost leave Sarah alone.
"Join your mom upstairs." I ask the twins. "She should rest in our bedroom until we fix all this mess down here."
"I can help, Ben." She offers. "I´m fine."
"No. You need to rest. I can do it. Would you like some water? Something to eat?"
"Something to eat would be nice, I´d be happy with a sandwich".
"I´m on it" Zoey says, rushing to the kitchen.
"Mom!" Griffin shouts with excitement behind me, walking through the front door with Harper. "You´re ok!" After a quick hug, he adds, "The ghost is gone! You don´t have to worry about it anymore!"
"Thanks" she smiles. "Thank you so much to all of you, including you, Harper, and your mom".
"Don´t mention it! I´m glad you´re back home, Mrs. Campbell".
"We´ve know each other for a while, Harper, call me Sarah."
Wyatt joins Sarah upstairs. Griffin and Harper stand there looking at me, waiting for the lecture.
"Even though your mom´s not here, Harper, I know she agrees with me. No one must go to that bunker. Once the living room is fixed, I´m taking care of it."
"What do you mean?" Griffin frowns.
"I mean I´m throwing away all that stuff and closing the bunker forever!"
"No! Dad, you can´t do that!"
"Why not?"
"Because…" he´s acting all weird again, jittery. "The bunker´s important for us." he points at Harper.
"If you want any toy or anything of that old stuff you can have it, but…"
"It´s not about that!" he yells. "The bunker itself is important…"
"Why?!" the bunker situation is exasperating, I raise my voice and firmly say, "You promised you won´t go in there again and you did! You told me it was like your special place, and I get it, but find somewhere else!"
He glances at Harper, waiting for her to say something.
"No more bunker." I growl. "This conversation is over. "
"No, dad, wait! Umm… please let us take some stuff first, as a keepsake."
"I think the twins and Topher wanted some old toys, as well." Harper breaks in. "After we fix the hotel, we´ll get the things we want from the bunker and then help you throwing all the useless stuff away."
"Fine, I´m ok with that." I agree. "The bunker is forbidden until we, all together, go in there to clean it up." I fix my eyes on Griffin. "I´m not dumb. If I have to sleep in the basement for you to stay away from there, I will. You won´t get in the bunker without me."
